We stopped in to The Catch tonight for dinner. We are not from the area and decided to give them a try. What a delight. The ambiance was friendly and quaint. The food was wonderful. We had broiled whitefish with rice and beans. I could have made a meal just from the Red Beans and Rice. The fish was delicious and the seasoning was excellent. We also tried the broiled shrimp with grilled vegetables. So often restaurants under cook the vegetables and this was not the case here. They were grilled perfectly and the seasoning was delicious. We go there occasionally with another couple as we like to eat and visit and not be rushed or bothered to vacate a table. We usually come a little after lunch crowd departs so we aren't rushed ! We weren't greeted when we arrived and when we went to order the cashier seemed annoyed we were there. Food came out quickly but they only had two waiters and even though they tried their best they couldn't get to everyone while the cashiers just watched. Food was underwhelming. Major lack of flavor in everything. Most of us ordered corn and potatoes as our side but only received watery over cooked corn. No explanation as to why we didn't get our potatoes. They gave me the biggest piece of fried fish with my shrimp and fish combo, and I was too happy. The shrimp are huge as well and both were seasoned perfectly. I ordered crawfish too and it was "only" 5.99/pd. I say only because in Dallas the cheapest is 8/pd...**inserts side eye**...and they were also on point. I was daring and ordered medium spice on the crawfish and my lips were burning by the time I was done (thank you water cup). I was travelling through the area and stopped in Tyler for the night. Needed some food, and had seen a couple of places along the way North of Tyler advertising crawfish, so figured I would try and find a place in town that served them. The Catch did not disappoint in this endeavor. All I ordered was a pound of crawfish to eat with a glass of water, and that was all I needed. The Catch does not use the standard recipe of smothering their crawfish with Old Bay seasoning... they use their own seasoning to give it a flavor all its own, and I was delighted with this! I ate outside as the weather was nice. Amenities outside are a bit slimmer than inside, but I made due by asking another table for some paper towels and stuff. My only issue, and it was my own fault, is that I dropped a crawfish tail on the ground right towards the end... a travesty, I tell you! It made me sad. I was reluctant to try the restaurant after having Pat O'Briens in NOLA just two weeks prior because I thought I might be too biased. My family of four (big burly cop, picky seven year old and even pickier two year old along with myself) came around 5PM on a Wednesday. There were two or three open tables, so we got to sit right down. They also have a screened in outdoor seating area, for the one or two cool months that Texas might see. The lady working the register was more than helpful in answering our questions about the menu. We ordered two full sized entrees as well as two child meals. The total, plus one large sweet tea (drinks are sold separately) was $42. Not too bad for all of us to get meals. Then they brought the food. My advice - come hungry! I ordered the shrimp half and half meal with extra hush puppies and red beans and sausage as sides. The other full size entree was the chicken and shrimp with fries and hush puppies as sides. The girls got fried shrimp and chicken tenders, both coming with any side of your choice (we chose corn on the cob and a boiled red potato on one and fries on the other). I got their "southern sweet" tea which, to be honest, isn't much of a difference from any other sweet tea. There was soooo much food! The girls could have eaten on one kids meal alone. Got there and was one of two people picking up orders. The girl at the register said two words to me. I paid and left an 18% tip and didn't even get a "Bye", "Have a good day", "Thank you".... nothing. She didn't even make eye contact. I'm big on customer service and a few words and some eye contact can go a long way. I wanted to cross my tip out truthfully but just grabbed my food and left.
