I completely understand if a restaurant cannot accommodate that request because of cross-contamination policies. My issue was with how it was handled. The waitress responded with "just don't get it," which felt dismissive. After I decided we would leave and eat somewhere else, she began grabbing the menus while we were walking away and sarcastically said, "Happy Mother's Day." I then asked to speak with the manager to explain that my concern was not the policy itself, but the rude delivery and attitude. While I was speaking to the manager, the waitress later walked by and asked, "what are you going to do about it?" and also told me to "go to Red Lobster." The manager did listen and said she would speak with her, which I appreciated, but the overall interaction felt unnecessarily rude and unprofessional. The young waitress (dark long hair) in this place is horrible! We went there and my mil paid via cc. She had had a long hard day at the hospital and totally overlooked the tip. The waitress ran us down in the parking lot yelling at us bc she overlooked tipping her. I have never in my life seen, let alone had this happen! She has quite the gull! We are regular customers of this place and will not darken their doorstep ever again because of this! We ALWAYS tip well! This was an over site on an elderly lady that had a terrible day! Tips are not required! They are earned! Was she not a good waitress, but would we have tipped if we paid, most definitely! Shame on her and shame on you for allowing your employees to act this way. On a side note, my husband did tip her. She was nasty and told him she would not take it. He threw it on the counter and told her to take it and walked out. Had lunch here earlier this week, and it was... an interesting experience. Seemed to have decent enough reviews and was close to what brought us out of Dallas. They seat you, and asked if we wanted a highchair or booster for our toddler. We choose a booth, so also a booster. This thing was the stickiest thing I've ever felt... and to remind you... I have a literal toddler at home... So that got banished to the opposite side of the booth, because how nasty! Now the rest of the place was clean and presentable, bathrooms included, so we didn't run off... But my husband and I compared notes after, and that's when we both decided to stick to deep fried foods... Kinda our go-to for a possibly dicey place, especially being seafood. We were the only ones there there whole time, besides one pick up order, seemingly from a regular. The prices, portions and preparation of the 4 things we selected were GREAT! The food was NOT the problem here, thankfully! The Calamari was great, my husband said the Boudin Balls were so-so (but he's been spoiled by recently going to LA and finding out whatever that rice heavy stuff they serve us all over Texas is... Well... Less than authentic. Spoiled.) and it seemed super random that they were served with a big thing of cold butter? He used some Ranch the server was kind enough to offer, when she dropped off the Calamari. We also had the jumbo shrimp and shrimp and frog legs lunch specials. My husband was delighted to see frog legs on the menu! We enjoyed everything AND took plenty home, as the apps kind of filled us. Not bad at all for $8 per item!! ...So besides the abominable, must be double wrapped in years of sticky grease, booster seat... The service was the "interesting" part. If you let your employees hang out, even chilling seated at the little bar, in view of the customers. Okay. If you let them sit and eat their meal, in full view of the only guests in the building.... Okay, I guess. But I have never (unless I've personally known the server/bartender, even then, not so much) had a "sit down" service where we should "just holler" when we need something... Lol. It was comical to us, having been veterans in service industry for so long. I've worked and seen many places where if you don't have someone captaining the ship... well. I guess I've never even seen it get this lax... Because that's totally the result. Again, if that's the way they like to have a chill vibe with their guests... Totally the owner's choice... But it looks very unpolished, and made us wonder if that might have something to do with the emptiness in there (but we're totally not from the area, so maybe we missed seeing all the nights they're slammed)... Either way, at the EXTREME LEAST... The person who genuinely handed us that booster seat, to put my child in, IS the problem with getting too lax in this industry. THAT kind of carelessness... Whether it was on that person directly, or they're all in that condition, and therefore should have been replaced or CLEANED PROPERLY years ago... THAT shows complete carelessness, and like no one is in charge... Because I don't know a single place I ever worked for that would have that nasty thing reflect on their business. read more

I love the Red Fish and Grilled Vegetables. My mom likes the Fried Catfish and Shrimp. The service is always attentive and friendly. The curb getting in to the place is a beast though, so it's either dodge the traffic or the curb and potholes. That's the only real drag for me. We ordered a bowl of gumbo to share. It was a pretty big bowl for only $4.99, but it lacked flavor. The gumbo base was kind of bland - not spicy at all. Had shrimp, fish, and green bell pepper in it. Some Louisiana hot sauce might have made it taste a little better. Lunch platters were great. Fried to order. I had red snapper and 4 large shrimp with fries & puppies. My fiancé had a crab cake and 6 oysters. Same sides. It was all hot, thin and crispy batter. Pretty good tasting and at a great price. Our waitress left a little personal note on the back of our check too. This place has been here for 10 years. It'll probably survive, so we'll visit again next time we're passing through. read more

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by this place. We rarely go to North Tyler (we live South), but we had been camping and saw reviews for this place and thought we would give it a shot. The location and outside appearance are not that appealing. The inside decor is not great. The staff was friendly and attentive, but there were not many people eating at the time. We ordered appetizers of calamari and the Mexican seafood cocktail. As a rule, I do not like calamari, but my seven-year old son had been wanting to try it. The price was only $6.99 and we received a huge plate full. I tried one and it was the best calamari I have ever had. It was not rubbery, as I normally experience. It did not smell fishy and the breading was crispy, crunchy and delicious. (Incidentally, we were at another restaurant in town last night and paid $11 for calamari. We received about 1/3 of the portion and not as well breaded). Our family ate that whole plate of calamari. The Mexican seafood cocktail was delicious. Only my wife and I ate that, but everything was fresh, light tasting with a little kick of spice. We cleaned that bowl. For dinner, our children got the fried shrimp and fries. They were delicious (probably the best of everyone's dinner), but they had to take "To Go" plates, because they were full of calamari. I ordered two Red Snapper (fried) and a bowl of Shrimp ettouffe. My wife ordered fried catfish, stuffed crab and fried jumbo shrimp. She loved the shrimp and stuffed crab. As much as we wanted to love the fish, it was not great. The fish was dry, especially on the thinner edges. It did not taste fishy, but it was still dry. The meatier parts of the fish were pretty good. I enjoyed the ettouffe. I'm not 100% it was fresh, but it tasted good. Overall, we ordered and ate way too much food. The price we paid for the portions was phenomenal. This place is a very good value and an overall great experience. If we are in the area again, I'm sure we would eat here again. read more

First of all, if you're used to "Louisiana-style" po-boys, you will be disappointed. I have yet to find anything close to that in Tyler. But, it was one of the better ones that I've tried in Tyler. We were visiting friends in Tyler. They took us to a Jumbo Seafood. I had the crawfish gumbo. It was dark brown and tasty, but thin like a broth with just a few crawfish and nothing else--no okra, etc. Their coleslaw was delicious and we wanted to know what made it so special. I had the soft shell crab that was over brown and too crispy. My wife shared one of her grilled red snapper fillets with me. Both were good, but nothing special. The fried food did get good reviews from all who ordered that. We all shared fried calamari as an appetizer and it was excellent. The grilled vegetables were very oily.
