In town for a night and stopped here since it was a quarter mile from our hotel. Had the whitefish and subbed fries for red beans and rice. Everything was fantastic. Fish was light and fluffy with a crisp edge. Red beans and rice was full of flavor and not overly creamy like most places serve. We sat outside of the main room in the newly enclosed patio, listening to a good ol boy peck at his guitar and singing some country tracks. Would definitely come back. read more

Great and fast fried seafood. The shrimp were perfectly breaded and sized. Sauces on the side were spot on! The chicken tenders are not great (why did I order chicken at the catch????). The fish was perfectly breaded with cornmeal and everything had the perfect amount of spice. read more

I was starved for 'normal' and I got what I wanted. As we slowly come out of this pandemic, I just wanted a normal dining experience. There was a long line of vehicles at the drive through (it was the peak of lunch hour) but a short line inside. We got great hot, fresh seafood. The portions were generous. Josie, the manager on duty, and her staff gave excellent customer service. Some of the upscale restaurants around here bring you your food in Styrofoam containers. I passed on The Catch when it opened because it was so darned busy. I was told that they were giving away free alcohol (I don't know if that is true), so the place was mobbed for weeks. Last week, the parking lot looked about half full and we could see empty seats in the outdoor area, so we decided to give it a try. I am married to a cajun, and had another cajun in tow, both of whom think Dudley's is OK and Cajun Steamer garbage, so I braced myself for the criticisms of my choice. No problems with parking. The restaurant is very casual and clean. The staff is extraordinarily friendly and busy, and I imagine that is why the restaurant stays so clean. Looking at the menu as a sometimes vegetarian, I found some salads (but not much else that I thought would fit) and got one. It was huge, fresh, and tasty. But the truth is that after I saw everyone's else's meals I stopped being a vegetarian and tried the jumbo fried shrimp and the grilled shrimp, red beans and rice, gumbo, and fries. We all had tea and the total was 40 dollars. I am a cheapskate, but setting that aside, that still seemed a little high. Nonetheless, the portions were large, everything that was supposed to be hot was hot and everything that was supposed to be cold was cold. Once the food came out I did not have a good handle on whether we had a waitress, but we didn't need one because someone was always dropping by, checking on us, taking used dishes away, finding extra sauces. The service was really, really, good. The red beans and rice were tasty. Really tasty. I took some home and ate them later the same night. The gumbo was tasty, too (of course, cajuns think it was bland but that's what all of the bottles of "hot" are for). I ate a huge "cup" of it. If that was a cup, I am afraid of the bowl because it was a man sized portion. The rice was perfectly cooked on the grilled shrimp, and the fries were... fries. But the shrimp, both fried and grilled, were cooked to absolute perfection. I don't just mean that they tasted good, which they did, but they were neither over or under cooked. As a lifelong Texan, i wouldn't even normally know what well cooked shrimp tastes like but, being married to a cajun, my eyes have been opened. I can't stand hard, rubbery shrimp anymore, and I used to think that's just how they came. The shrimp were plentiful, fresh, and perfectly cooked. The batter on the fried ones actually added to the shrimp instead of just being an oil and salt delivery system. I thought the price was a little high, but If I was at Cajun Steamer I would pay an extra 5 bucks to have their food taste like The Catch. A Winner. Withholding a fifth star just over the price. read more

This has been one of our favorite lunch eateries - until today. We're "senior citizens" and don't eat large lunches. We found that getting 1 fried & 1 grilled fish taco with an order of hush puppies was just perfect. The basket is 2 fish tacos. Today we were told that the new management won't allow a mixed basket. What difference does it make? It's still 2 fish tacos! It can't be a cost cutting measure. They could cut costs by cutting back on the number of fries given with each order. Sadly, we won't be going there for lunch any more. (I generally love left overs, but not tacos.) read more

Very pleasantly surprised - got caught near Fourth St. during lunch hour. Generous helpings of Whitefish for a very reasonable price. Good service. Unfortunately, the Kilgore location did not have the same quality - sticky floors, uncomfortably hot, out of sweet tea for 30 minutes, even though I pointed it out to them. read more

We've been twice now. First time we went in and it was a little crowded but the staff was super nice and helpful. Fish was great and the portions are large enough for left overs or to share! Next time I'll try something different but it was great! When we drove through it was way faster than I expected!!!! The fish was still just as good. We only go through the drive thru. The food is always hot and good. I was annoyed on March 13th..They had a sign at the drive thru order about crawfish available. Wasn't interested... But at the window is a nice pretty sign about additional items available... Including crawfish etouffee... Which I Did want. The line was to long to ask for them to redo my order. Left disappointed. The hushpuppies here are amazing! Breading on shrimp and catfish is pleasantly sweet. Fries could be better. A little pricy. One catfish filet is nearly 5 dollars... but it is good fish. Best fish in longview that I have had. read more

Excellent food. I get the fish and shrimp when I go because their shrimp are huge and very tasty. The food comes quickly and is freshly cooked. The restaurant is quite small, but clean. They do have outdoor seating, however, but during the summer, it is extremely hot. The fish is good and crispy, not chewy or crumbly. Everything I have tasted so far has been great. The staff has always been extremely nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. read more

I was skeptical before trying. I love seafood but never cared for fast food seafood. After several recommendations I tried it. The jumbo shrimp were awesome. The hush puppies were great and had a nice taste. The only down side is the fries are normally soggy. I just learned to get the medium jumbo shrimp and skip the fries. I love the fact that Jersey Mikes is next door so that hubby can get a sub since he doesn't do seafood. read more

The fish is very good, I would say above average. My only complaint is the serving size. The price was $8.99 for the regulars catfish it came with, french fries 2 hush puppies and about 3 pieces of fish the size of your finger if you have small hands. My family has been a regular customer of The Catch ever since it opened, and it has quickly become our favorite restaurant in Longview- the food is awesome, especially the fish and shrimp tacos as well as their other offerings, not to mention the free beer and Margaritas! I also want to commend Alison who has served us on a regular basis and seems to be a driving force behind the excellent service level and she is always very attentive and takes care of our needs before we even have to ask- all with a smile on her face! Nice atmosphere and patio area. You order at the counter and then food is delivered so there is no wait service available. Decor is decent with fish mounted on the walls. The menu has a lot of different options on it from tacos, to fried items, to house specialities. I had the fish tacos and veggies. So good! The gumbo is very good but I really don't care for eating out of styrofoam bowls. I have only eaten the gumbo the other times I was there. I have tried the fried fish that my wife ordered. It was cut large and not really fried enough. Crispy fish is the only way to go. Soggy is never good. read more

Love The Catch! We cannot wait to move to Longview so we can eat here all the time. Food and service are both top notch! Not sure why more reviews haven't mentioned the FREE beer and frozen margaritas! You just have to know to ask (and of course, tip appropriately so we don't lose this awesome perk!) The ladies at the front counter were friendly and knowledgeable. We saw them giving out samples of food to customers who couldn't decide what to order. The menu has enough variety to keep us coming back, from fried seafood platters, to po-boys, to shrimp and grits and the like. Plenty of sides to choose from as well. And all at a reasonable price! We had fish tacos and a fried shrimp basket for less than $18 and the food was GOOD. My fish tacos were huge and the tortillas tasted homemade. Best I've had in a long time. The tacos have fresh purple cabbage and pico, plus a ranch-based sauce that comes on the side. I was full after just one. I could eat these tacos everyday for sure! The vegetables I got with them were good (albeit, they didn't seem too healthy) and loved that they throw in a couple of hush puppies as well! We enjoyed the shaded patio and had multiple employees come check on us throughout our meal. Much appreciated! Our only gripe: the regular fried shrimp basket only has 4 shrimp, which seems pretty skimpy for the price! If you're hungry, get a bigger basket. read more

The Catch is one of three local fish and shrimp eateries that are popular around Longview. Of those this one has the most trafficked location. The fish, shrimp and other fare do not disappoint. Prices are reasonable and the service is always above average. Despite the location in the middle of mainstream shopping the place has a dive feel to it. At times they also have live music so management seems to be trying for the fun eating experience. I have visited this restaurant several times with different groups of people and everyone is always pleased with the experience. read more

At first, from the looks of the outside I wasn't sure I wanted to stop here to have lunch. The building is relatively small (LJS) style but after seeing the parking lot packed with vehicles, I wanted to give The Catch a try. Once inside I noticed a covered-partly enclosed patio and the interior restaurant was packed with customers. At the counter, I was surprised to see a vast menu of items to choose from. I went with the catfish since this was my first time and I wanted to see what all the hype was about! The fish basket contained three large filets, fries and two hushpuppies. The fish was breaded/seasoned nicely to please anyones taste I feel. And, the tartar sauce was very tasty too! Service can be somewhat slow at peak dinning times which is totally understandable for the volume, but was well worth the wait. Next time I'm in Longview on business, I'll have to come back for more!
