So I am incredibly new to the car-buying process as well as looking into getting a car on my own (my mom cosigned for my current vehicle). I was looking online for a used truck that didn't have an outrageous amount of miles on it and stumbled upon The Car Shop's website. I sent in a request for more info and Braddah Pat and his team got back to me half an hour later. Keep in mind now that this was probably around 9:00 PM. I had a response by 9:30 PM with a plan to come in-person the next morning to see the vehicle. Once I got there, I was really appreciative of Braddah Pat and his team for multiple reasons. 1) Braddah Pat had pulled out the truck that I was interested in 2) Him and his team were willing to talk numbers and work with me to pretty much get me in the car that day 3) He was very patient and answered all the questions I had. He and one of the other workers there (I wish I had gotten her name) helped explain a lot about the car buying process. Even though I had to walk away because buying a car is a huge decision, I didn't feel like Braddah Pat was disappointed or angry that he couldn't make a sale. 4) They're willing to keep working with you even after you leave. Maybe an hour after I left, Braddah Pat messaged me about another truck he had recently picked up that was along the lines of what I was looking for. Unfortunately had to turn that one down too, but impressed with the hussle regardless. I've always had a... crude/negative image of car sales people, especially used car lots like this. Bought a car here that was advertised as "no issues and in perfect conditions". Right after I brought it home I noticed that it was struggling to start and the engine light came on. I did report this to the The Car Shop. They told me not to worry about it because it was just a sensor warning. I bought a OBD2 scanner just to find out that all the previous codes have been erased from the system. Red flag. Fast forward 2 weeks, my alternator completely dies while I'm driving. I understand the vehicle was bought as-is so I have it fixed for 1000$ but the mechanic also tells me to be careful because the car might have transmission issues. Additionally, some minor issues: one of my windows + my hazard lights aren't working. I changed my air filter and it was completely BLACK. I think it has never been changed before. I don't like how everything is hidden. The car obviously has issues and they should have been upfront about it. I chose to put my whole trust in them because of the reviews but If you buy from this dealership make sure to bring the car to a trusted mechanic and have a pre-purchase check up. I also wanted to add that it is very hard to reach them for anything. You have to call at least 5 times. read more

Buyer beware! I bought a 2018 Ford Ecosport with 60k miles from there in May 2023. I was promised from the owner 5-star service. What I got was way below 1 star. I bought it "as is" but assumed the business (https://www.hawaiicarshop.com/) did a mechanical and electrical check before selling to the public. I was WRONG. Within the next couple of months, I had to replace tires, battery and windshield wiper pump. Unfortunately, I had no way of know that this was just the beginning of problems from this lemon sold by The Car Shop. With 5500 miles the motor locked up and I was stranded on the freeway. When I contacted the owner of The Car Shop, he told me it was 5500 miles and my problem to deal with. Is this how they take care of their customers? Is this 5-star service? My son and I had an interest in a truck, therefore we requested for a purchase order for the amount of the vehicle, at a cost of $5500. We received the funds and headed to the car lot, did make a call letting them know we're on our way. When we arrived the representative indicated that the vehicle was in the storage, to our surprise as we continue our conversation with the representative, the owner son comes out and tells us that they sold the vehicle to someone that offered more. The new buyer offered $6500. We were stunned that they did this to us. I was lost for words but at the same time knew this was all shady." So our hands are pretty much tied that we got in our vehicle and proceeded on our way out. About five minutes later as upset as I was I tell my son to call him, offer $6000 well low and behold they accepted the offer. I found that to be very shady and deceitful because why would you accept our offer when you just told us you sold it to someone else for $6500. Also when he said they were rounding up the money I knew they were shady, because for a person to have to round up that money that means they don't have the money together so that not a guarantee. So then they tell us that the owner has the vehicle and is out fishing we had to wait two hours. Wait I thought it was in storage, shady statement. This whole experience was unacceptable, shady, deceitful, and full of liars. Please this is the reason why people don't like car salesman, a prime example why so be careful of this particular lot go to a well-known National dealership. They advertise that they do safety checks, but they remind you that they mainly sell cars and that safety checks are a nuisance. The feeling of being an inconvenience to them is felt! Best to just stop advertising the service. The story: I called to book a safety check appointment. When I arrived 20 minutes early I was aware they were on lunch break. After lunch(at my scheduled time) the guy doing the inspection came over and said he just finished lunch and needs to rest for a bit. No problem, I waited 15 minutes past my appointment time while the 5 other people working that day seemed to be doing other random things around the place. When he came to my window he asked for the keys and told me to wait inside. 20 minutes go by and they walk me out to show me my truck lifted and giggled while pointing out some minimal rust in the engine compartment well who's car doesn't have rust in Hawaii ?!?!? They said they could not pass me. I said just give me my truck I will take it elsewhere. Then listened to them saying if I got into an accident I could sue them. Now I know that there are safety check points that need to be covered in order for them to keep their safety check license. But doing safety checks at a place where cars are sold as their main business, I wonder if that used truck that just happened to be moved to the front of the shop was a hint that maybe it's time to get a replacement? Just speculation. Since this headache I was able to take it to reputable car shop and it passed with flying colors. From the owner: "We do safety checks for the community!" He asked me what I was looking for and gave me some information for things to look for with both gas and electric cars and some issues I could run into with vehicles in my price range. He wasn't pushy at all and gave me a business card before I left. I ended up coming back in hopes of purchasing the Note I looked at earlier, but sadly it had been sold. Found this shop out of pure luck. Was browsing cars thru Sams Club auto program and I'd inquired about a car, was texted that it was sold but shown some other similar cars. Instantly fell in love with the Honda CRV that had been my dream car even though I thought it might be out of my price range. If you are looking for a safety check and your car is tinted ( mine is factory tint) you may not want to go here until they change the battery on that tint meter or since he mentioned it is brand new- you might want to wait until it's replaced. Which is unfortunate because I've been going here for 10 years and never a problem until today. Mind you the same car passed safety inspection last year with no alterations yet failed the tint test this year with a 19. But within 5 minutes I went to a tint shop to see how to fix it only to find out my tint is at 33. Would've been nice if he considered it could be his meter since the same vehicle was given a safety inspection last year. But that didn't happen. read more
