Jon was awesome! It was my first time purchasing a car and he made me feel very comfortable. He answered all my questions and made sure I understood what he said. He also helped me when I needed help with insurance. 10/10, 5 Stars. It was like I was dealing with a trustworthy friend. Thank you Jon! read more

I visited several places to sell my car and Jon at Max Motors was the only person who gave me a fair offer with no bs in our interaction. The other places that I went to are the highest rated places on Yelp, but they all gave me extreme lowball offers and tried to feed me all kinds of slick bs. If you are looking to sell your car I 100% recommend stopping by here to get their quote. It might not seem like a fancy place but it's down to earth and they keep it real. read more

Super nice customer experience. Mr John is a great guy who is trustworthy. I will go again for my second car. Don't waste your time to sell your car. Go to Max Motors! read more

** BUYER BEWARE | MILITARY MEMBERS BEWARE ** Do not buy a car here they will sell you junk, blame you for whatever problem the car has then give you the run around when it comes to scheduling repairs. I purchased a car here in May 2023 and almost immediately the check engine light came on. I returned to the dealer and told the salesperson Peter about the problem and right away Peter connects the car up to a small diagnostic machine and declares the problem to be a "FAULTY GAS CAP" then states he would look for a replacement cap. Fast forward a few weeks later and still no gas cap, the check engine light comes on again, so I return to the dealer Peter checks the car and AGAIN states it's a gas cap issue and that he is still looking for a replacement cap. So, after waiting more than a month for the supposed fix I am driving just a few miles from home and every single warning light this car has comes on, so I go into my local car service, and they tell me that I have a blown head gasket and that engine oil is mixing with the coolant in my vehicle. I called Peter at Max Motors and told him the problem; I sent Peter the report from the car repair service, and he told me to bring the car in. I brought the car to him, and he confirmed the broken head gaskets. Peter says that he will find out what it costs to repair the car and work with me on the cost to repair it. WAIT WHAT!!! Work with me on the cost to repair a car you sold me that should have never been on the road AS IS and was not sold as road worthy. So, I waited a few days for Peter to call back and of course HE DOESN'T so I call him and yup he gives me the old "HEY I CAUGHT COVID AND HAVEN'T BEEN TO WORK" so at this point I know these guys are trying to scam me. Peter then passes me off to his manager named John who right away tries to blame me for the car's problems as well so of course we talk, and I thought we had come to some agreement on trying to resolve my car issue which turned out to be more scammy behavior. After two conversations with him in which I told him that I could not get to work, doctors' appointments or even the grocery store, John's reply was "Well can't you take a taxi to work or get a ride from someone else?" John then proceeds to say that he has also caught COVID and shut down his business until next Tuesday September 26, 2023, and that he cannot get a quote to fix the vehicle or help me at all until then. I even asked John if he expected me to believe that in the short span of 3 months that a vehicle would develop a cracked head gasket and faulty coolant leak system, especially when I only drive the car 12 miles to and from work with local trips. I have less than 500 miles on this car from May to September! In short instead of owning up to selling people JUNK and trying to resolve the repair issues in favor of your customer or client, you guys simply blame your customer, hide behind fake COVID claims (who even does that anymore) or simply lie about the extent of your mechanics ability to make these cars roadworthy. I will be taking my complaints to the State of Hawaii, the Department of Transportation, Yelp, the Better Business Bureau, Social Media and any other public space, permit or licensing source to have these guys sanctioned. Stop costing hard working people money and time. DO THE RIGHT THING PETER AND JOHN! MAX MOTORS WILL SELL YOU JUNK ! MAX MOTORS WILL LEAVE YOU STRANDED! DO NOT BUY FROM HERE! read more

I bought a car from Peter Matthews at Max Motors today. What a refreshing experience start to finish, fast and painless. I've been buying cars for over 50 years on two islands here and the mainland and I've never had service anywhere close to what Peter provided. I know the Used Car game and he didn't play it. He answered all my questions, zero pressure, and I really enjoyed the experience and his personality. Oh, and I walked out with a cherry car, that with proper maintenance, will probably out last me kinda like a parrot. I think I'll name her Miss Birdie. You can't go wrong with Peter. read more

Max Motors is the best car dealership I dealt with in Hawaii. I bought a car from them in early 2023 and it went really well thanks to Jon. He helped smoothly through the whole process from financing, registration... I ended up having to sell the car about less than a year after and Jon was the only one who understood my situation and tried to find a win-win situation for both of us while other car dealership were just BSing me to buy at a cheap price. I highly recommend Jon if you want to buy a car and feel confident doing so read more

Unprofessional. I had setup an appointment for 10 am (the FIRST APPT of the day available). it was for a specific truck and I had to take off work to come see it. I got there early and it was closed so I waited at a nearby McDonald's parking lot. I head there at 9:55 and the same person is pulling back in witha couple and the truck at interest. I tell him I'm there for a 10 and he said sorry it's sold they came first. It's a business and I understand that, but for me to tell them I have to take off work and him saying 10 is the earliest I can come because they don't open till 10. He should've told them I have a 10 appt and if doesn't go well the. he can show them. I'm beyond upset. Where has Our Aloha states customer service Gone ? read more

My husband and I are so impressed with this place! It's small, but it had a great selection of vehicles on the lot. We saw a Jeep they had for sale online, called about it, and we set a time to check it out. When we got there, they had just detailed it and made it look so good! Clinton was our sales guy, and we are so happy to have worked with him. He was so laid back, which we really appreciated. There was never the feeling of being pushed around like other car dealerships. Jon (the owner) was super cool, and he made sure the Jeep was in great condition for us. Clinton had the car washed again for us after buying and filled up the gas tank. It was all such a smooth and easy experience - it was wonderful! I would definitely recommend checking out their inventory! read more

Jon owns and operates his business with honesty and professionalism. I wasn't necessarily in the market for a used car but a Max Motors had a model that was rarely available. Jon eliminated any apprehension I may have had by being upfront and honest. Jon is a person of integrity and genuinely values the satisfaction of his customers. There are so many car dealers available but it's rare to find one that actually lives up to their stellar reputation. My experience in dealing with Jon and his team at Max Motors unequivocally exceeds his 5 star rating. I would without a doubt highly recommend speaking with Jon at Max Motors if you're in the market for a vehicle. read more

I give Max Motors an absolute five stars. Peter Matthews was my car salesman. Easy to talk to. He goes above and beyond. We did short conversations on the phone at first, it helps to be able to look at their inventory of cars first. Before I made an appointment to test drive I wanted to know If I qualified for a loan on a not so good of a credit history. Mind you I told him all I could put down was $500. That same day Peter was able to get a bank to approve me a loan with $500 down. Went in the next day signed papers, paid my down payment and I was driving the car I chosen off their lot! read more

I haven't purchase a car for 20 years. I was looking online for a car that night that have a low mileage, looking through truecar.com. I found a few car I wanted that night. The next day morning a few car dealerships guys called me but Peter was the first guy who contacted me and worked out and see if I am qualified for financing. A few hours later, he called back and said I am approved for financing so that day I came in to the office did the paperwork. I didn't even test drive 2012 Chevy Malibu. I highly recommend them. Went shopping online to see where I could sell my car and didn't have a lot of time to do it. Went on Truecar, got a price and Max Motors came up as one of the places to go to sell it. Jon checked out the car thoroughly and quoted me a very fair price. Came back in a couple days with the papers and left in less than an hour with a check. I am very impressed with their honesty and good business ethics. During the test drive, we talked about Max Motors and business in general. I went to Max Motors to trade in one of my vehicles to get a more family friendly one. From the beginning Peter was very helpful and understanding when I wasn't able to communicate over the phone while I was at work. He would send me e-mails and I would do the same. He got with the owner Jon and they gave me the trade in value and a loan from a good bank in less than a day. All I had to do was bring in my trade in vehicle the next day and I could leave with my new car. On that day I was running a little late because I had to stay back from work a bit. Peter said just call me when your leaving and it would be no problem. I ended up getting there around 6:55 and they close at 7. I think all of the employees waited. Jon the owner waited, Peter and I forgot the other person but they waited. I appreciated that. It was a very quick process. I test drove the car I wanted, with Peter, which was easy enough. Peter was very informative about the vehicle and shared a little about himself. They checked out my trade in and test drove it. It all went smoothly and I didn't have to wait long. I was in at almost 7 and left the place around 8:10. I didn't feel rushed either. Overall, awesome experience. These guys from top to bottom want to take care of you. Jon the owner even took the car and filled up the gas and got it washed before I drove it off the lot. Give these guys a chance before going to any other used car places. I have always been skeptical about purchasing a vehicle from a small "mom & pop" used car type of lot. All my vehicles in the past have been purchased from "name brand" dealerships, because the atmosphere was comfortable and familiar to me. Anyway, after today my whole outlook has changed. Here's my story.... I've been actively looking for the right Toyota Tacoma TRD for quite some time now. I've made calls to private sellers, "name brand" dealerships, and craigslist listings. Nothing. Then I came across an online listing, which pictured a Tacoma that had everything I was looking for in a truck. The listing lead me to Max Motors website, where I could view the vehicle in more detail. I shot them an email expressing my interest. Bryce immediately contacted me the very next morning as soon as they opened up. Honestly, I wasn't expecting to hear back from anyone so quickly. We set up an appointment, test drove the vehicle, and then I was sold. No pressure, no "used car salesman" tactics, no BS. Bryce was very professional and friendly. We even talked story during the test drive like we've been friends forever! LOL! He really made the sale and the experience quick and painless. After closing the deal, Bryce offered further assistance should I run into any problems with my truck in the future. He seemed very sincere. Max Motor's is a small but very organized and clean lot located in the heart of Kalihi. The employees were all friendly and always smiling. Honestly, I had a better experience with this purchase than I did with any of my other vehicles! I drove off the lot with a clean, gassed up, bad @$$ Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport Prerunner! Peter at Max Motors was Easy to talk to, Upfront, & Helpful. We didn't have much credit cuz we just started building it; helped us get approved. First loan got denied but he still helped us look for other options. Buying a used car gives you a fear of something going wrong after you leave, but he was really good. He assured us that if anything ever went, wrong just take the car back so they can see what's wrong and if they can fix it then they will, but if they can't then they will help us find a place to fix it. Not to mention, this was our first time buying a car and we did not know exactly what to do first. Pete helped us with everything leaving us with just the simple task of signing papers. The five stars Max Motors has is well earned. Bryce was extremely helpful and knowledgeable in answering my many questions about the Nissan Sentra SE Type R I eventually purchased. When I picked up the car, he even mentioned discrepancies on the (used) car that were discovered, so that I would be aware, but signed an agreement to fix the faulty passenger window for FREE. When I came in the following day to re-sign some paperwork, the replacement part had already came in, so he worked on it there on the spot. Highly recommended if looking for a car, Bryce and everyone else are honest and have great customer service, which is hard to say for a lot of car places. Keep up the good work guys! read more

We found this dealership online when we were looking for a particular model of Toyota Sienna that we were unable to find on Maui where we live. From the first phone call Peter and Jon were polite, helpful, professional. They had the Sienna model we were looking for, and Jon took the car to a nearby mechanic at our request to have it checked out. He contacted the local Oahu Toyota dealership and ordered running boards for the car and installed them for us. He worked with Young Brothers to have the car shipped to us on Maui. The car arrived with no problem, and it is beautiful! Very clean and well-cared for--like a new car, except that it is a 2016 model! All of our dealings with Jon and Max Motors were pleasant and professional. I would definitely recommend Max Motors if you are in the market for an excellent used car! read more
