Joined a group of friends to celebrate the 20th work anniversary of my former partner. There is a special "Wagyu & Wine" menu going on (available in the entire restaurant for lunch service, restricted to the bar for dinner. Greeted warmly entering by the host staff as I was the first to arrive, we ran through the different permeations of what reservation/party was under. Upon being seated, we were warmly greeted there by Maura/Moira (sp?) who was the epitome of "professional" who was attentive to the key. The Grille's Wagyu Cheeseburger was delicious. Most of the tables in the dining room have a tremendous view of Waterplace Basin and have muted Jazz music playing throughout the space. The service was great - they were constantly checking in and timing our meal to ensure each course came not too early or late after the previous course. The food was delicious full of flavor, but not salty. My only critique is I asked for my filet mignon to be medium - it was medium well with almost no pink in the middle. Because it was still tasty and tender, I did not mention how it was overcooked to the server. Manny took me through the "generous pour" wine flight special paired with a four course dinner. I upgraded the entree to the 22oz, bone-in ribeye. +$20... Worth it!!! My wife ordered the 10oz filet. Both steaks were cooked to the perfection temps we ordered. We also shared a half-sized order of wild mushrooms and a half-sized order of mashed potatoes. Met a friend...all ecxited that Cap Grille finally instituted a "Happy Hour" or in RI an "Appy Hour" they call it Capital Hours. Clearly advertised as offered in Providence, Sundays 4-9. The sauce on the sides were great and really added to the flavor especially with the rice tucked underneath. The cheese cake was a standard cheesecake. The place is usually busy especially during the holidays so need reservation. Inside is large establishment with many tables and staffs. Usually there is some wait even with reservation as they manage a-lot of customers. I ordered dry aged bone in NY strip, lobster mac and cheese, and cheese cake. The steak was good portion, medium rare and flavorful. Lobster mac and cheese was good but felt like lobster didn't contribute to the dish that much. I didn't really taste the lobster since cheese was overwhelming. Cheese cake was pretty good. Soft cheese cake with caramelized sugar on top with side of fruits. Overall the food was very good. The service was also very good. All the staff were attentive and there to help when in need and checks on you often. Overall the place is good. The service and food are great. Downside is that the location is difficult for access, price is quite expensive, and usually busy so wait time can be long. I wanted to get steak, but I couldn't pass up the Halibut garnished with a lobster tail over sauteed spinach. From the first bite, you could tell the lamb was prime and the oysters were fresh. The Halibut was amazing, and the bites of lobster just sent it to a whole other level! Finished with a simple butter sauce, I couldn't have asked for a better fish dish. I've been to the Capital Grille in a different city. This one was even better. Once you get to a top level of a steakhouse, there isn't all that much of a difference between a steak here or a steak there. So the only thing you can do to compete is the service, the decoration of the room, extra items, such as potatoes and vegetables, the desserts and the drinks. In our mind, they were perfect and all of those points. There is one more thing that added, especially between this specific location and other locations I've been. This had more of a bread between table to table. I don't know about you, but I hate spending a lot of money and feel like. It was cooked perfectly, the steak was enormous, and the Porcini rub and the balsamic drizzle on top were fantastic. She ordered the sliced tenderloin with onion, wild mushrooms, and fig essence. I had a few bites, and it was delicious. For the sides, we got the potatoes, au gratin, and grilled asparagus. Both were great. I can't believe this is my first experience dining at a capital grille. What an amazing first and definitely not my last meal at this establishment. Dined with a pretty size-able group for Easter lunch/brunch and was in awe of the ease at which our sever dealt with all the different demands and requests. We all shared apps which were all equally delicious, most stand out was the Prosciutto wrapped Mozzarella (Mama-Mia). The kids had special drink requests, most of which were met. Each adult had adult beverages, mine was Blackberry Bourbon Sidecar, which I highly recommend for the bourbon lovers. Moving onto the main course, I went with the Kona Encrusted Strip, which was cooked to absolute perfection, and really all I needed to send me into food coma. With every main course at a steak house must come sides to share... so of course we had to share the cream corn, soy glazed brustle sprouts, au gratin potatoes, and the truffle fries, again all equally delicious. Oh wait there's more... Not that not a single one of us could possibly stomach another bite, the desert menu comes around, and of course a cheese cake, crème brûlée, and espresso cake was ordered for the table to share. My only regret was that I was too enthralled with the experience and the quality of the food that I didn't get to take too many pics. The original location never disappoints! We took a customer out while attending the JLC Show. The lunch menu is actually perfect. Great portion sizes and a little different offerings than dinner. The table had lobster bisque and I had a huge Caesar salad to start. Then right in to the Dry Aged Bone In NY Strip steak. Excellent stuff. Our server could have been a bit more attentive. We were in a few serious business conversations and she interrupted a few times. It was not hard to see or hear and she should have backed off. This place is great though, nice views from just about any seat, and always consistent food. I usually don't eat much of the bread and butter since I like to save my stomach for the main course, but the bread basket was so enticing with their diff types and textures. The crab cakes are actually pretty filling I could only finish half since I had that after I had my soup, which was also super filling. The soup was really good. One of my gf's got the salmon main course and enjoyed it. Another gf got the lobster bisque and said it was really good. Two girls ordered salads and I forgot exactly which one but I was kinda jealous because their salads looked amazing. We also got an order of half dozen oysters, which were a bit small. Capping off a weekend in Providence, my wife and I dined at The Capital Grille on Saturday night. I had last eaten here over 20 years ago for a business function, so it was fun bringing my wife here. The good thing about Capital Grille is you know what you're getting. This is the 3rd restaurant of the franchise that I've dined and it's been a quality experience every time. Bonus here is that it was a short walk from the Omni Hotel. We started off splitting a half dozen oysters. Delicious with a little hot sauce and horseradish. For entrees, my wife went with the usual...filet medium rare. I changed it up and went with the NY strip au Poivre. A little too many peppercorns for me, I should have stuck with the filet. I have been here a few times before but this time around, our experience was the best. Jamie made our dining experience even better. Gotta say the service excellent the food just ok I've had better else where for sure I had the Gorgonzola aged New York strip with a red wine reduction sauce at first it sounded like it was gonna be amazing. The steak was pretty big but not worth the $65. That's for sure. Specially when you have to buy everything à la carte not much flavor on the steak I asked for medium. It came out as medium well and it was definitely charred over a grill a bit much for my liking my wife had halibut dish and it sounded amazing until we tried it. The fish was on the dry side again not worth the $58 for it. Disappointed that there was no cheddar cheese white or sharp to put on a baked potato in the north. Steak was surprisingly over cooked as I ordered medium and received a nearly well done steak. Still flavorful. Might give this place another shot soon. read more
