This is my dream candy store. Small, cozy & happy. The staff is also above and beyond the friendliest people I've ever met. Especially the owner. It's also the place to come if you want to try Swedish candy, BUBs yes, but they have so much more than that. And the staff always have great recommendations. I always feel welcome even though I'm super indecisive. Will always recommend this place when you need a sweet treat.

My friend and I stopped by on a Saturday around 3 PM, and while there were a few people inside, it wasn't too crowded--perfect for browsing. One of the employees recommended we try their $25 bag of assorted Swedish candy to sample a variety before deciding on our favorites. It was a great way to discover new flavors without committing to just one. I loved the variety and the option to try different sweets, and if you're looking for a smaller option, they also have $12.50 candy bags. The candy was expensive but I liked being able to see it in person vs buying online.

The candy itself was fine, definitely authentic. The frustrating part was the weird vibe of the people working, and the ridiculous "scoop rule." My cousin and I walked in and weren't greeted, even though we were the only 2 in the shop and both woman were standing there just looking at us which was weird, but not a big deal. Then, we started taking about which candy we wanted to try and one of the ladies stopped me from speaking to let me know they don't do single pieces of candy, even of the big ones, they only go off of "scoops." They were not scoopers, they were using tongs, and multiple times reached in to give me two tongs worth of candy when I nicely asked for only only one. Some candy she would give me one heaping tong scoop, and others 2, it made no sense, but I am not one to argue. I only ended up getting to pick 7 different candies before my whole bag was filled and cost me $47. This was a bad and weird experience, and the candies I chose weren't even that good.

I'm so sad because this candy store has been around for a while, but I didn't discover it until recently via social media. Swedish candy is trending right now and this was the closest store that had it. The store is right off of Polk street. Parking can be tricky but if you go earlier in the day, it's easier. I went on a Saturday around 1pm and there wasn't a line. There were a couple people inside. The store is set up where they had jars of candy lined up on the wall. You can't make your own candy bag. You can buy candy by the 1/4 lb but they also had some premade bags which is what I got. It was $25 for the bag. It had an assortment of sweet and sour gummy candies. It's a nice change from other candy you usually get at the grocery store. I hope to come back for more when I finish my bag.

With all the hype with Swedish candy, it was cool to find a local shop that sells them! It's also nice to hear that they've been a candy shop since 2007 and they're getting so much good business. My friend and I decided to visit on a Saturday afternoon, about an hour before closing. We were fortunate enough to arrive when the line wasn't super long yet, and we were very excited to try Swedish candy! Others in line were building their own candy bags, but we opted for the 1lb Swedish mix that was already prepackaged Swedish candy of various types, including the popular Bubs. The ladies working were so sweet & welcoming, and they tried to accommodate everyone in an orderly manner to ensure the line goes smoothly. I love that the wall was just decorated with so many kinds of candy, it was candy heaven. There was a cute bench outside the store, so my friend and I decided to try our Swedish candy for the first time there. It was such a good experience, getting to try out the variations and choosing our favorites. The Bubs candy definitely lives up to the hype, and it got my friend and I obsessed and wanting more. We will definitely make another trip out into the city to grab more candy and support this local business

As a type two diabetic, this place is my kryptonite. But after seeing all the Swedish candy trending on Tik Tok I had to check it out. I went about an hour before they closed and there was a line. Only waited about 15 mins though, with maybe 20 people ahead of me. It's really small inside and there were only two employees. Customer service was good. The owner was the one who helped me out and I told her it was my first time here. I wish she told me more about the candies but I know she saw the line and with them closing soon she probably wanted to get through everyone quickly. Still super friendly though! Just wish I got some info on fan faves or diff flavor/texture profiles between the candies. There are signs in front of the glass jar to let you know. Their main focus is gummies but they do have lollipops, chocolates and other candy. It's $25 per pound. They have the Swedish candy pre bagged already but no one in front of me was purchasing them. They were just picking out from the jars. Peer pressured into creating my own mix and also buying the pre-mix so spent $40. Definitely a splurge but it's chewy, yummy, quality candy! It is sour and just my fav type of gummy candy. My fav are the bubs (it's like a marshmallow texture. Not sure how to exactly describe it but it just melts in your mouth) and the sugar lips. Overall, I'm glad this business is flourishing and wish the owner so much success. Definitely a nice feeling to feel like a kid in a candy store and having adult money to pick whatever I want.

Located just off upper Polk Street in Russian Hill, this candy store offers a variety of assortment of Swedish candy! There is street parking nearby and it wasn't super busy when my friend and I visited around 2 pm on a Friday. My friend and I got one bag of swedish tutti frutti bubs, swedish raspberry-citrus sour skulls, swedish sour dizzy skulls, sour smoochie lips, and percy pigs which came out to about $20! The employees were super nice as well :) Follow @michellehan.guide on Instagram for more!

Well-stocked with Swedish candy -- bubs, hallonshots, skulls, you name it! My favorites are: sour pineapple-passionfruit skulls, strawberry-pomegranate ovals, raspberry hallonshots, strawberry and cream tubes. These are must-tries!! They also sell interesting candies from other European countries; I love the Percy Pigs from the UK. Some cons: 1. It's pretty pricey at $25/pound. 2. You can't scoop out your own candy like you would at normal candy shops like It'Sugar. The workers scoop it, so sometimes, I end up with more of a candy that I wanted less of and vice versa. 3. Sometimes, the candies I like are out-of-stock and take a while to get back in-stock. It's so conveniently located right off of Polk Street, and I'm usually in and out with my candy within 10mins whenever I visit. The store itself is small and cute.

I went on a Wednesday afternoon around 3/4PM & was the only customer. So many fully stocked candy jars! I came to see if they had the popular bubs & skulls and they had both (and in so many flavors)!!! Got the pre made pack because she said the cola skull & banana caramel bubs were sold out but in the pre made pack and also got a bag with a few flavors of each bub & skull. Spent around $50 on the two bags. I really love the texture & flavor of this candy! It's very marshmalloy & soft! My favorites are the watermelon & sour pear bubs. Love this cute lil candy store & will definitely be back for a restock!

It felt much more balanced and grown-up than the usual sugary version. The pastry I tried was also nicely done.. rich, layered, and satisfying without being too much. What stood out most to me, though, was the whole atmosphere. It feels part café, part chocolate boutique, part tasting experience. Even just browsing the bars and beautifully packaged products was fun. A really nice place if you enjoy thoughtful desserts and want something that feels a little more elevated than a typical coffee-and-pastry stop.

Last year I saw how insanely popular their Tokyo store was, so I finally tried this cafe for the first time because it was unusually empty as I was passing by. I had no idea what to order because the menu wasn't conspicuous to virginal visitors. Only later did I notice the drink menu on the left wall. The openly exposed desserts are what really caught my eye first. I decided to order the $6.75 Frozen Hot Chocolate because it frankly reminded me of the decadent monstrosities at the legendary Serendipity 3 in Manhattan's Midtown East (Photo 8). It was similar but not nearly as huge of pricy. I liked it a lot though with a generous dollop of whipped cream, it was more a mid-afternoon dessert. That should've been enough, but the confections on display were too inviting. Filled with 70% Takyikrom and Ghana chocolate ganache, the $8 Apple Donut was freckled with candied apple bits and tossed in spiced sugar (Photo 9). Delightfully decadent. For me, it's always a shame when a longtime business shutters, but even more so when it's a spot I used to frequent when I was a kid! So, you can imagine how stoked I was when I heard that not only was a new owner going to be coming in to take on the space, but that they were going to keep just about everything about this place the same! If you ever visited the original Shaws, this place will look and feel more than a little familiar. From their signage, to their decor, to their range of offerings, so much of this place is just like its predecessor. Most importantly, of course, their offerings are no different from before either. While most folks, like me, mainly stop in for a scoop (or three) of their Mitchell's ice cream, Shaws is actually a candy shop, selling a variety of housemade fudges, chocolates, and confections along with candies from both well-known and lesser-known brands, like Tootsie Roll Pops, PEZ, and Nerds. -- GRASSHOPPER PIE ICE CREAM Despite how there are so many newer ice cream creations and flavors out there, this continues to rank as one of my favorites anywhere. The mint chocolate chip, Oreo, and fudge complement each other very well and the ice cream itself is so smooth and creamy - DELICIOUS! -- ESPRESSO TOFFEE CRUNCH ICE CREAM On the rare, RARE occasion that I don't get the Grasshopper Pie, this is what I typically get instead. The ice cream has a nice espresso taste to it with a good amount of toffee bits thrown in. Yet, much like the Grasshopper Pie, it's still not overly sweet either. -- DARK CHOCOLATE CARAMEL WITH SEA SALT...about $1 for my piece ($32 per pound) A worker mentioned this is her favorite candy here and I get it. While it was initially tough to bite (cold), it was perfect once it warmed up. The caramel was rich, smooth, not too sweet, and well complemented by the chocolate's bitterness and the bits of sea salt. -- ENGLISH TOFFEE WITH DARK CHOCOLATE - $3 for my piece ($32 per pound) This was terrific! The toffee had a nice, buttery flavor to it and a really good consistency - slightly thick, but not impossibly hard to crack. The nuts on the outside were great as well, but I do wonder if this might've been better with milk chocolate for some added sweetness. -- DUBAI CHOCOLATE...$7 Ehh. My least favorite thing I've tried, but the best Dubai chocolate I've had (I'm just not a fan of it/fudge). The chocolate portion was decent, albeit very stiff, while the chopped filo added some texture. That said, the pistachio portion felt really subtle. Along with how great their sweet treats are, the workers are just as awesome. Each time I've been here, they've always been super welcoming and it's cool how they'll chat it up with regulars and their kids, which adds to Shaws' small town/local charm (and that of West Portal at-large). Plus, it's awesome how they have a backroom space that you can rent for parties and to do activities, like candy making! Looking back at my review for the original Shaws, I'm surprised that I only gave it four stars. Not that it matters at this point, but if I had to guess, I would've bet good money I gave five. Also, I know some of my fellow Yelpers have dinged Shaws for not making their own ice cream, but I'm fine with it since A) they're a CANDY shop and B) coming here is far more convenient than heading to Mitchell's, unless I'm looking for a flavor they don't offer here (they usually have 15-20 of them). Not to mention the fact that I can also pick up some other sweets while supporting the newest iteration of one of my childhood favorites! FOUR AND A HALF STARS rounded up.

If you ever find yourself wandering the Haight with a sweet tooth, Candy's is the kind of place that reels you in with its polka-dot storefront and keeps you there with its sheer wall-to-wall candy magic. I popped in during an evening dog walk & it was game over. Inside, the shop bursts with color, rows of gummies, chocolates, and nostalgic treats that make you feel like you've stepped into a real-life candy playground. The selection is seriously impressive. Think sour watermelon slices, Swedish-style raspberry gummies, cola bottles, peach rings, rainbow belts, giant marshmallow twists, Haribo classics, and even fun themed candies like frogs, sharks, and gummy strawberries. Everything is neatly packaged and easy to browse, which makes it extremely dangerous for anyone prone to impulse snacking. Unfortunately, a big, tanned male employee handled this situation extremely poorly. I had already purchased two coffees and bakery items before continuing to browse. While looking around, I picked up a bag of chips but had no free hands, so I placed it on top of my very full bag, clearly visible at all times -- not inside it. At checkout, this employee aggressively accused me of putting the item in my bag and repeatedly insisted that he "saw it," despite the fact that it was never hidden and I was fully willing to pay. I calmly explained the situation multiple times, but he refused to listen and continued to accuse me of stealing. He never apologized and continued to push the accusation. Ultimately, I was so upset by how I was being treated that I requested a refund, which was handled politely by the female employee, not by him. Being accused of theft without evidence, especially after already making purchases, was humiliating. The way I was treated felt racially biased, discriminatory, and deeply disrespectful. Loss prevention does not justify treating a paying customer this way. This experience left me extremely uncomfortable and disappointed.
