I have to give credit where it's due. It really feels like The Camp Store has started listening to some of the feedback people have been giving, and it's nice to see things slowly moving in the right direction. One thing they absolutely deserve praise for is the events. Like Jurassic Beach (which I saw on the Instagram page) was such a cool idea, and the light shows have been awesome too. Those kinds of events make camping here even more memorable, especially for families, and you can tell a lot of effort goes into putting them together. I've also noticed the store itself starting to feel more like a camp store again. Seeing more Carlsbad and beach themed merchandise instead of all the Sasquatch stuff is a nice change. It gives the place more of that cozy campground feel that so many people loved about the original store. That being said, it still feels like the store is very focused on attracting outside visitors rather than mainly serving the campers who are staying here. The music and events can also be a little overwhelming at times, especially when you're looking for a quieter campground experience. Overall, I'm happy to see the changes that have been made. The Camp Store is not exactly like the old one yet, but it is definitely heading in the right direction. Keep listening to the feedback instead of criticizing the reviews and continue to bring back that classic camp store feeling, because I really think this place can become something special again. read more

This is an experience unlike anything I've ever encountered and not for the good. The food is adequate, store is overpriced for the convenience it offers, but customer service, management (Bree), and Ownership (Anthony) are atrocious. They kicked out my family (including 4 year old daughter and 1 year old son who literally had food in their hand) on a Wednesday night that was more than half empty well before any music started. However, they let us first buy a round of drinks for 4 adults before kicking us out due to the "no outside food" policy. So with 4 full drinks purchased from them and our "outside food" from camp, they let us walk away with drinks in hand right past the sign that says "no alcohol beyond this point." So you're willing to sell me alcohol, then kick me out with drinks in hand to where alcohol is not allowed because I brought food from my campsite?? It gets better. Bree (the manager?) offers me Anthony's phony number who is apparently the owner. I call Anthony and explain the situation and express my frustration. The very first thing he says is "well you shouldn't grab women like that!!" Wait.... What?!? At this point I'm beyond perplexed and said "what are you taking about?!" He says "Bree said you grabbed her!" I laughed and said "sir, I have 6 people who were there, plus however many other patrons that can attest that at no point anyone was grabbed." Then he says "well she said you shook her hand firmly!" In this real life?! I get kicked out, then accused of "grabbing" the manager which quickly back peddled into "shaking her hand firmly." At this point, I realized I was dealing with people who have zero sense of savvy, customer service and fabricate lies to change a situation. They're fortunate to have the luxury of good location. Located anywhere else it would be a dumpster fire. Myself, nor my family or friends will ever spend another dollar here. Will that hurt them? Probably not, but if this review prevents one person from the same experience, then it's worth it. read more

Live music with a great view, and a casual order at the counter vibe. This was the perfect place to take the kids and grab some pizza and beers. They also had a store to pick up snacks or ice cream too. The only drawback was that we had to park elsewhere and walk over or we'd have to pay a hefty parking fee. Easy with no kids, but a little more difficult with toddlers on a hot day. Next time we'll be prepared. Just down the way, you could take the steps all the way down to enjoy the waves away from the hustle and bustle though. Worth the visit. read more

Wow this charming little pizza restaurant is the perfect fix to a long week and can't decide where to destress. The Camp Store is outdoors overlooking the beautiful ocean in Carlsbad. We arrived just before 5pm and got to enjoy an amazing sunset while eating excellent pizza. The Gluten Free crust is exceptional. I highly recommend the GF crust to any pizza crust lover. Parking is at the nearby shopping center which is an enjoyable walk for after eating. There was a live band and lots of families, with kids and babies in tow, enjoying the perfect end to a perfect day. I highly recommend bringing a blanket for cooler days, a deck of cards or game of backgammon, and lots of good conversation with family or friends. Enjoy! I'll be back for certain. read more

My first time visiting the Carlsbad Camp Store, and here is my general recap. Located on the premises of South Carlsbad State Beach campgrounds, it is open to all. This is an outdoor-only venue offering food and drinks for purchase. They have an amazing variety of pizzas for such a small place, as well as good choices of local beer on tap. I got the sense that the crowd is mostly locals who enjoy visiting for the live music, the overall atmosphere (or 'vibe') and the sunset views. Lots of seating areas that fill up very quickly; most of the seating is first-come, first-served, but there are some tables you can reserve. Besides pizzas and drinks, there is a full convenience store that sells all the necessities. Parking is very limited next to the Camp Store so mostly people park outside of the park on the street. We enjoyed the last day of their Halloween light show, which was pretty cool. I understand that next month there will be a Christmas lights display. My only suggestion is that they provide some form of heating for the colder months. read more

Don't miss out! What could be better than a camp store with pizza, beer and an ocean view?! Before visiting, it's important to set your expectations accordingly. This is an actual camp store at the Carlsbad Campgrounds. If you're looking for fine dining, this is not the place. However, it's awesome for many other reasons. The food quality and menu is far better than your average beach shack. My wife and I love to split a fresh made pizza and salad, then grab drinks from the shop window next door. [Note: they also have fries and tater tots, which are the ultimate beach snacks by my standards.] The staff is laid back and you can't beat dining at a picnic table with a salty sea breeze. Better yet, they have live music regularly and evening light shows that make it fun for the whole family. Pro Tip: Parking is limited so carpool if you can. Have been dying to check out the live light shows for about a year now and finally made it to the camp store on a Sunday night, just past high tourist season. Let me start by saying I have put this on the back burner for so long because the parking situation is not ideal, but after going last night, it's not that bad. It helps if you have small kiddos to do a drop off and park if you can and it's a short, safe walk near the Ralphs for street parking. The light show was SO awesome! The songs were all on theme with Halloween and the pumpkins sang to the songs perfectly timed. It's also fun that the set plays on a loop, so if you miss one you can see it again! The line for food was on the slowish side and we did end up waiting 30+ minutes for pizza and chicken wings, but it was really busy. I was surprised by the size of the items for the price point, my $12 frozen margarita was on the snack size, the pizza was just enough for 2 maybe three and six chicken wings with a few slices of carrot and celery for around $57 but was happy to support a local biz. Next time I'll probably opt for a salad and the cheese curds that our table neighbor shared with us were delicious and huge portion! I also got so in the camp mood that I purchased a s'more kit to take home for the backyard- some wooden sticks, graham crackers, marshmallows and Reeses peanut butter cups were all available at the store. The store was stocked with cute trinkets, merch, toys, snacks, ice cream, drinks and typical camping stuff (bug spray, sunscreen, blankets, shoes, ect.) Let's talk about the location! This is absolutely the dream for beach camping location IMO. I have now added it on the list to try to get a spot at some point because falling asleep to the ambiance and sound of the crashing waves is a dream! I did see coin showers, and there were toilets part of the state park that I didn't venture to check out, but there were none near the store. I will def come back for snacks and the next holiday light set up! read more

Very cool outdoor spot to grab pizza and a drink while listening to live music by the beach! Pricing was reasonable and most beers, wines, and hard ciders were $5-6. There were a good variety of pizza ($15+) and ~10 options, as well as appetizers like tots and fries ($5+). Service was very friendly and welcoming. There is only outdoor seating and seating is very limited! Be sure to come early during the weekends because it gets very crowded! If there is a line to order, be prepared to wait ~30 minutes for your food, especially the pizza! However, the pizza is worth the wait! Ordering is easy- you order at the window and you give them your phone # and they text you when your order is ready. There is a gift store attached to the restaurant and it has a lot of cool souvenirs! The Surfsquatch ($18) was very delicious and had plenty of pepperoni, bacon, sausage, and mozzarella! Super fresh and flavorful without being too salty! I'm usually not a big fan of crust but their crust is super crispy and good! Wish the pizza was bigger but other than that, very yummy! This was 8/10 Tater tots ($6) were ok, nothing too special. They were crispy and they give you a lot! Not too salty or greasy so it was not bad. This was 7/10 Ashland Mango Strawberry Hard Seltzer ($5.57) was ok, not as fruity and sweet as I was expecting but it wasn't too bad. This was 7/10 Seaborn Passion Guava Hard Seltzer ($5.57) was very good. Slightly sweet and fruity but had a small kick to it! Very refreshing and delicious! This was 8/10 Enjoyed listening to the free live band performing! It would have been more enjoyable if it was less crowded and more seating with shade. Came here during the Jurassic park pop up event. Wow. What a cool spot! In the camp store you'll find all the merch and essentials you'll need while camping. What wow'd my husband and I the most about this store was the pizza. Do not sleep on the pizza. I repeat... do NOT sleep on the pizza!! Why was it so good? Not sure. But it was pure magic haha. Melt in your mouth type of pizza. There's plenty of picnic tables outside with an ocean view. Shout out to the amazing workers here who kept us fed during this busy event! They were friendly and kind. I appreciate their customer service. 10 out of 10 recommend the camp store. The only downside can be parking. Once it's full, you might have to drive, park then walk. read more

We came for the Dino experience and it was absolutely amazing. The kids thought it was the most amazing thing. We made reservations online to ensure we got a table. $15 not bad! The experience its self is free. Parking is horrible though. We parked at Ralph's down the hill and walked the bridge over. We ordered pizza, cheese curds and fries. 5 kids lol. went in the cute gift shop after. We spent 2+ hours and it was such an amazing afternoon. The view over the bluff was breathtaking. The pizza parlor attached to the camp store was 10 out of 10 so delicious the only thing it was pretty busy so the wait for food was about 45 minutes to an hour which was OK because they text you when your order is ready in case you want to hang out or go back to your campsite. Highly highly highly recommend this location and campsite. There is also a lot of seating there are chairs and benches, which is really nice. I went the next morning in the corner they have the location where you can buy tokens for the showers ! read more

I reserved a table over 6 months ago for the holiday weekend. My table was changed to accommodate a regular, the manager approved the switch. I have a confirmation to prove. It was unprofessional. **********TO THE OWNER******* Your response actually proves my point. I had a reservation confirmation that had been approved months in advance. When I arrived, other guests were already seated at the table that had been confirmed for my reservation. I didn't reserve a "Blufftop" table I reserved the table that your manager confirmed and reassigned to me. Had someone simply apologized and acknowledged the mistake, this likely wouldn't have become an issue. Instead, you chose to publicly call my review "ridiculous" and "nonsense" while dismissing my experience. This was never about being "five feet away." It was about a confirmed reservation not being honored and the lack of accountability afterward. I completely support accommodating guests with special needs, but that doesn't excuse failing to honor a confirmed reservation or responding to a customer with insults instead of professionalism. Your response doesn't change what happened it only reinforces my original review by showing that, rather than taking responsibility for a mistake, you chose to publicly criticize a paying customer. read more

This review is technically for Jurassic Beach that is right in front of the camp store. Super cute concept to have animatronic dinosaurs displayed near the beach. But boy was the logistics annoying to view this. Parking is at the structure for Cape Rey hotel and you need to walk across the street and through the campgrounds to get to Jurassic Beach. That walk is longer than the dinosaur displays, so just have that expectation set, because we didn't and were disappointed. It was really crowded and difficult to navigate around. The kids somewhat lost interest after the first few dinosaurs because they ultimately just did similar things with showing their mouths/teeth, craning their heads, and making dinosaur roars. You also need to spend $15 at the camp store (or you can reserve a table for $15 for 2 hours). What was annoying as well was that while the sign said first 4 hours of parking was free when we left (after less than an hour) the machine wanted us to pay $10 so we had to call the help button and wait to be buzzed out. read more

This is our family's favorite place to spend a late afternoon evening. In the summertime, they have live music (schedule posted) of all different genres. They have beer on tap as well as inside the store in their fridge, along with different ciders, kombucha, soda, etc. Their pizzas are truly delicious and my kids are obsessed with the cheese curds. Apparently, they'll start serving sandwiches soon which I'm excited about. It can be dangerous walking through their store with children - too many toys that you'll be tempted to buy because you're in too good a mood. They have a little freezer with ice cream bars, too. Of course the views are also epic. They're currently featuring several animatronic dinosaurs that the kids are obsessed with. During the different holidays, they always decorate all out. Cons: no parking (a lot of people park at Ralph's and walk over). Gets super packed with people on weekends so can be a lack of seating (people bring camping chairs). Lines and waits can be long sometimes. I should probably go ahead and buy a Camp Store hat or sweatshirt. We're there often enough that this is definitely our local hang at this point. read more

What a find. This place has great food and the view is even better. We ate here at sunset on a Thursday evening from 450-540 and it was 80% full. The service was friendly and nice. The Wisconsin taters were amazing and so were the garlic taters. My wife ate the arugula vegetarian pizza was amazing even better than the Hawaiian pizza. The ambiance was amazing, even more so since this is in a campground. So the real issue is parking. There are three ways to park to eat here: 1. Camp here, 2. Find one of the 5 free parking spaces empty (but you can only stay for like 45 minutes), and 3. Park at the Ralph's shopping center about an 8-10 minute walk up the street. The Camp Store in Carlsbad is a must-visit during the holiday season! They host a FREE Halloween & Christmas light show. The lights are beautifully done and the music is great. If you're nearby, it's definitely worth a visit with family or friends. The show lasts a full hour there's a 5 minute break and then it starts again! My daughter loves it! Food-wise, the pizza was delicious - definitely try it if you're there! That said, ours took an hour and a half to be ready. I'm not exaggerating! We ordered before the light show started thinking we had 30 min to eat before it got dark and the show started AND ended before we had any food. Be prepared for a wait if they're busy. If you're starving or just coming to the light show like us then consider bringing your own food in. Despite the pizza wait, I will be back with my own food this time for this free show. read more

My husband has been wanting to take me here for the music at night. We haven't made it yet but we did finally go for an afternoon. The outside ordering was closed at the time but we were able to go in the store and get a beer. They also provided cups for the canned beer. The man being the counter was very nice. They had tables with umbrellas and tables without. It was a nice hot day so at first we sat in the shade then enjoyed the lifeguard chairs (in the sun). It was quiet, peaceful and so relaxing. Come early! The line gets long. We waited about 45 min for our order. All good they have good music and a view of the beach. So no reason to trip. Food line is different than the drink line. They have a little convenience store with convenience store type stuff. Drinks, candy, snacks, and toys for the little humans. Cool place to hang out and short walk to the beach. read more
