A bit of New Orleans in Canton, GA, Cajun Menu is the French quarters dream dining experience. YES, I recommend this place and Tyler or host/waiter. Ask him about the off menu items, trust me they are delicious. Just so you know you're here for the authentic New Orleans food, not the decor. The food is cooked up upon ordering so it does take a little bit longer than a traditional restaurant . Order up!! The design is still a work in progress, but the food is the real adventure. We dove right in on our order and started with etouffe and queso dip & boudin balls( off the menu item). This was served with our drinks so we casually enjoyed each morsel. We then were served our entrees: deep fried catfish etouffe on a bed of rice, the gumbo is off the chain there is lobster and alligator in it, the room is perfectly made for the gumbo as well . Then the crawfish etouffe is also superb. My complements to the chef, 20 years in Mississippi & Louisiana area, you brought me home. Thank you ! The food was very flavorful. Food was a 4.8 out of 5. Food portion 4 out of 5. They were a bit behind on our pickup order but the owner kept us company while we waited and he was super friendly and fun to talk with. They haven't been in the space very long since starting last September. They made the old space look good and I can imagine it becoming very lively during Mardi Gras. Friendly greeting upon entry and seated in a booth. They also have tables including high tops. Although not leveraged they have a patio with a pergola that might be leveraged in the future. As an older building there was a slight funky smell, but not too overpowering. I started with the sampler platter and each item had a hint of heat to accent their savory flavors. The Red Beans & Rice had a good flavor, but with so much liquid it was more of a soup. The same for the Étouffée which also only had a hint of rice. The dark roux chicken and sausage gumbo had big chunks of chicken but I didn't see any okra. For my entree I had the fried Shrimp Po'Boy and it was a generous serving for a "half" sandwich on nice French bread. It was stuffed with lots of shrimp that had a good meal coating. The sauce drizzle had a sweet and spicy hint to hit with just an undertone of tanginess. Service was friendly and other staff were prompt to clear plates and check in on me. However, the waitress wasn't very present and I was unable to get a refill near the end of my meal. And there was an extended wait to get my check. A staff member told me that after they get their liquor license, that they will offer bread pudding in a bourbon sauce, and I'm looking forward to trying that. read more

ALSO, the owner shared with us that they use beef tallow to fry everything-the difference is noticeable in the best way. Menu: Best part about the menu is not having to order gigantic, full portions! Majority of the entrees have options to get a Half or Full order-perfect for a smaller portion or sampling multiple things. Vibe: Totally Louisiana, Cajun, Mardi Gras vibes in here! They played traditional Zydeco music over the speakers (if you know you know). The owner was great and friendly. We struck up a few conversations with him throughout our meal. So happy we finally tried this restaurant. It absolutely lived up to the hype. The shrimp po-boy was outstanding, with large, flavorful shrimp tucked into classic Leidenheimer bread that had a perfectly crisp crust and a light, airy interior. Everything was clearly cooked to order, and the service was friendly and attentive without feeling rushed. For dessert, the Cajun mud cake was a must: rich, gooey, and intensely chocolatey in the best possible way. We'll definitely be back. read more

I could ask for it, but I think presentation is important. It was just large marble sized hushpuppies in a bowl. Ordered Crawfish Etoufee for $32 as my entree. It was ok. Again, just crawfish over rice with a roux. No bread to mop up the roux. I like my etoufee with tomatoes, peppers, green onions and celery. Clam juice or seafood broth, Cajun and creole seasoning. Wife got a Po-boy, nothing exciting about a Po-boy. Total bill was $79. 4% added since I paid with a card. No music playing, no LSU tiger swag on the walls, no alcohol, plain restaurant. Very little theme. Better experience can be had at Flatlands in Alpharetta. And their etoufee is only $24. read more

The flaky bread on the Po-Boy, the gumbo roux is dark and delicious and the crawfish étouffée was full of flavor! Mama is in the kitchen and does it right! and They give you a cash discount! The food was authentic and amazing - we had the low country boil, crawfish étouffée, and shrimp and grits. Each dish was truly Cajun, a special recipe, and incredibly flavorful. The food was spicy, which I like, but the owner said the spice can be customized. The restaurant recently got a liquor license and the whiskey sours were good, too. The restaurant is owned by a husband and wife team. The husband made great conversation with each table and even told us that if we don't like what we order, they'll make something else, even if it's made correctly and we just decide we don't like it. This place is the real deal. I give places that say Cajun food with a grain of salt anywhere in Georgia and this food is just as delicious if not more than back in Nola. Shrimp poboy is spot on. I tried the sample dish and it was delicious but not $25 for 3 small bowls. I will definitely return and get the full portion of the crawfish étouffée. It was the best I had in many years and full of delicious and fresh crawfish. Service was excellent and never had to ask about getting a refill on any drinks because a fresh one was always there before we even noticed we needed one. We will definitely return as soon as the liquor license is passed. Only negative thing about the menu is no Bread pudding. The family is from Cocadrille, Louisiana! Ya know where dat is? Right in de heart of Cajun Country. Like me, John, who owns the restaurant with his wife, has been cookin since the age of 2 with a chair pulled up to de counter with his mama. That's how we do it down there. His son, Ethan, impressively runs a well-organized kitchen at the young age of 17; cooking since he was a little boy as well. Taylor gave us great service today on her birthday, as did the rest of the staff who came by. We had a great visit with them! Now for de food! This is de real deal! Not like other restaurants that say they are Cajun and serve food the way they think Cajun food is. ***This is Cajun food and it is done right, just as they do in Cajun Country!*** The three of us ordered: 2 shrimp po' boys, a roast beef po' boy, and a cup of seafood gumbo. They even brought out a nice portion of their seafood boil to us as lagniappe (which means "a little something extra" for y'all you aren't from there). Thank you for that! The po' boys come dressed (lettuce and tomato) or without, your preference. We chose dressed. The shrimp are battered nicely, well sized, and are perfectly fried. Their Cajun Mayo adds a splendid spicy kiss to this goodness. The roast beef po' boy with debris gravy goodness is on point. The roast beef itself is slow roasted for 10 hours to falling apart goodness. Scrumptious! The seafood gumbo is different than what you are used to but the flavor is on point and the meat is very tender. Generous portion of rice. The shrimp amazingly are not overcooked. Remember, gumbo can be made a lot of different ways. Their gumbos take 2 days to make in order to get the desired flavor. (Takes me 2 days also.) It was a generous portion (about 16 ounces) for a cup of gumbo and we all enjoyed it immensely. Next. Let's talk about the boil. They do it differently from what I'm used to (no corn, potatoes, onyum, or garlic) but wow! No complaints about this bowl of heaven! Today it had shrimp, andouille, and mushrooms. Oh, mannnn, we have never had mushrooms so good. The flavor and beautiful spice made me see Jesus. I'm pretty sure I wasn't not the only one at that table. I wish I'd gotten some boil to bring home. There's some seriously good spiciness up in here!!! You can taste the love! ***Note that the bread you see in the pictures is not the bread you will get. They had a bread situation today and while it was fresh, it's not the bread they normally carry. Don't worry, you'll get French Bread when you get there and your po' boy will also be longer.*** Ambience: The dining room itself has lighting for daytime and really cool lighting for nighttime, see photos! His mother did the paintings on one wall and his wife took photographs on the other wall. Remember that they are easing into their business and this is a soft opening as they work out the kinks. More things will be added and adjusted. Beer and wine will be offered. You may have to BYOB for the moment - feel free to call and check with them about that. We can't wait to go back! Don't deny yourself the opportunity to eat some delicious Cajun food! We were there for the first time this evening and glad we did. The service we received was top tier and they made it clear they were going to be sure we were happy. Where else do you have the Owner come around and check multiple times to be sure you loved what you're eating. And guess what.... If we didn't like it, he'd replace it with another dish. I had Shrimp & Grits and it was very flavorful and bordered on my limitation for spicy. Spicy isn't my strong suit but while the Owner offered to replace it ( I said NO but mentioned it would be extra good with a beer! ) He told me to request slightly less heat the next time & I will. Hubby has the Red Beans and Rice with Sausage & enjoyed every last bite. And guess what.... They have half orders and full orders to please everyone! My husband and I were very excited to try a new place for lunch. We were horribly disappointed. The decor was extremely tacky and dated. For a new restaurant it was decorated with what looked like hand me downs from the 70's. When we arrived there was only one table occupied. The hostess/waitress handed us silverware and menus and pointed toward a booth and said sit there. 20 minutes to get a water and a tea. Ordered alligator bites. Greasy and very salty. Obviously frozen. My husband's chicken Alfredo was served in a very tiny bowl not big enough to eat out of without making a mess. Made with canned chicken. I ordered shrimp and grits. Disgusting. Overly salted and for $23 you would think it would have more.than 4 shrimp and one tiny little sliver of sausage. Not even a full slice. I complained. The owner came and instead of apologizing for the food quality, she proceeded in giving us a unsolicited history lesson that shrimp and grits was not Cajun. I hope that no one else has to endure their so called restaurant. We now know why there was no one there. We love Cajun food. Having been frequent visitors to New Orleans we really expected better. If you are gonna advertise "Cajun" at least learn how to make a decent roux! read more

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! As someone born in Louisiana and with my entire family being from there, I can say without hesitation--The Cajun Menu in Canton is the real deal. Y'all, this food transported me straight back home. We started with the gumbo appetizer, and it was perfection. Then came a roast beef poboy and a crawfish poboy that were so spot-on, I had to remind myself I wasn't sitting in New Orleans. To say they were "to die for" doesn't even cover it. While waiting, the owner and her husband came to our table and introduced themselves. Nicest people you could ever meet--and you can tell her love language is food, because she surprised us with a little "flight" of samples. We were absolutely blown away. The crawfish étouffée? Best I have ever eaten in my life. And I've had it a million times. Rich, flavorful, melt-in-your-mouth incredible. The red beans and rice? Let's just say my Maw Maw would've handed the kitchen right over to this fine woman. That's how authentic and delicious it was. And then the beignets... listen. I'm about to commit a Louisiana sin here, but they were hands down better than Café du Monde. Yes, I said it. On top of all that, our server Kelly was wonderful--friendly, attentive, and on point all night. If you're from Louisiana and miss home cooking--go here. We had lunch today at the Cajun Menu. The interior is very basic and the light in certain areas is not good. My wife ordered the seafood gumbo. We were told they did not have it. This struck us as being odd since Wednesday is the first day of the week they are open. She ordered the chicken and sausage gumbo. The gumbo was more like chicken and rice soup with some pieces of chicken and sausage. It did not look like it had been prepared with a roux like most gumbos we have had elsewhere. I had the crawfish Alfredo. It was a lunch size portion in a small bowl. The taste was good, a bit of heat. The pasta was cooked well. However it costs $28.00 which is high for lunch. And it comes with nothing- no bread or a salad. When I asked the server about their fried shrimp, fried crawfish she said it was not anything special and it's just fried stuff! I have never had a server talk down their restaurants food. They had no specials today. I was told to check their Facebook page which I did before we went. It has not been updated for days! While we were eating our lunch, our server started turning the chairs over the tables to close for the afternoon. This made us feel like we were eating in a closed restaurant. read more
