I just discovered this local gem! The food was great: I had the chile relleno/taco lunch special and my brother had the lunch fajitas, and everything was amazing. The service was awesome. The booths were comfortable. The music was pleasant. My only wish was that the chips were thinner, but my brother preferred them over thinner chips because he could scoop more salsa without fear of them breaking. There's a lot on the lunch menu to choose from; I look forward to trying more dishes here. My brother declared this his favorite Mexican restaurant now, so I'll have ample opportunity to try everything. read more

There was a friendly greeting as I entered and again when we exited. And the waitress was also attentive and kept my drink refilled and ensured that I had no needs. There is plenty of seating indoors with an offering of both booths and tables. And there is also a large covered patio with plastic sheeting to keep the weather out. I was immediately served warm and crisp tortilla chips with a smooth salsa of medium heat. I had the Steak & Shrimp entree which let me try a lot of different ingredients and I found all of decent quality. The seasoning on the steak was delicious and the shrimp were large and plump. And all the side items (flour tortillas, guacamole, pico, rice, beans, queso, onions, peppers, etc.) were good. For those who have read my reviews you know I am disgusted by places that use the cheapest of flatware with forks that bend and cut your fingers. Tapatios has some of the cheapest forks and knives i have ever seen and they do have sharp edges. Now, lets get to the food. I have been here twice. The food was not bad at all and is to me on par with most of the other Mexican places in the area. The salsa is fair at best and for sure nothing to write home about which was disappointing. Other than the sub-par salsa the food was ok and worthy of a try if you do not mind dealing with the other issues Tapatios seems to have. The biggest Cons of Tapatios was the Salsa, Silverware, and the Service. After being seated we were served quickly but after that our server was nowhere to be found. There were plenty of people working there as servers but our server disappeared and never refilled our drinks. I later spotted our server working at the bar and serving others and talking with some women and we could not get his attention until he gave us our check. There was also another server in our area who was walking around picking his nose all the time we were there, Not something you really want to see while you are eating. read more

PROS: - The alcohol was good - No wait on a Friday night - our meals came out timely - staff wore masks and enforced social distancing as much as possible. CONS: - it wasn't severely packed, but we had to wait 15 minutes to get greeted. Servers constantly passed us, but we weren't greeted. - queso was garbage. No flavor no nothing. My wife and I eat Mexican food all the time. I cook it often and we have had it all over the world. This neighborhood Mexican restaurant is pretty good. We came in after a long day of exploring northern Georgia and we need something to drink and eat. We both ordered margaritas and they were strong. I got a frozen one and my wife went with the regular one. Mine was so strong and I loved it. It took me all meal to finish it and I am no light weight. We ordered the bean and chicken nachos, the enchiladas supremes and a quesadilla. The bean and chicken nachos were good in that they had some nice sized chunks of chicken on them, but I expected a little bit more veggies, guacamole, and sour creme on top. The enchiladas were good. I had different types and they all tasted good. My wife enjoyed her quesadilla. The service was really good. We were seated immediately on a Friday night. Our server was on top of her game and kept checkin in on us. She even came back to refill the water which is the mark of a great server in my book. The total bill was pretty fair too. Passing through Mississippi we stopped here. It's a convenient location right off the hi-way. We ordered the fajita consisting of chicken, ribeye and shrimp. The order came out very fast and was very good. Can't say the same for the salsa, which was very bland, but came with a generous helping of chips. The service is not so great, but I can always overlook that if the kitchen sends out great tasting dishes. A molcajete is a bowl, typically carved out of one piece of volcanic basalt. You've seen these things at some of those restaurants that make tableside-fresh guacamole. THIS Molcajete is a gigantic, basalt bowl of grilled chicken, steak, pork, shrimp, cactus (yes, cactus) and Mexican chorizo and fajita veggies, and some tortillas to boot. It was delicious. And it was HUGE. There's enough food in that volcanic-rock for two people. Maybe three. I took home leftovers. And then I danced around the house like an Aztec warrior. I get the notion that some pride is involved with the serving of this signature dish. Our server was very friendly, and my ordering the Molcajete yielded a certain sparkle in his eye. I suggest you try there mixed drinks as well, they have a full stocked bar ready for what ever your choice may be. Great patio seating as well and if the weather doesn't cooperate, you can still sit on the patio and be protected. This is by far my favourite Mexican restaurant to go to. It's such a welcoming atmosphere. Convenient location right off of Hickory Flats Hwy. I am greeted right when I walk in. You receive complimentary tortilla chips with spicier-than-most-but-not-toooo-spicy house salsa. I especially love their street tacos (chorizo!) and the delicious chicken tamales. Our dining experience started off great by being promptly greeted, seated, given chips, salsa and water. Our waiter was attentive, took our order quickly and then...we waited and waited and waited. Meanwhile, I noticed a large party that was being loud and difficult. This created the flow of the restaurant to come to a standstill, so I am not going to let that affect my review. I truly feel if this unruly, rude group was not there, our service would have continued to be great. When we finally received our order, chili verde and shrimp fajita's, our food was delicious. It came in a flour tortilla bowl, and was more like a cheese dip with a few beans at the bottom. It was still very good though. For my main course I had The Molcajete. That was good. I had never had cactus and it wasn't bad. The carnita in it was awesome!! The rest of the meat was well seasoned and tender. The service was lacking. Our server was inattentive. I am still trying to find some decent Mexican food in the area and after eating at Tapatios we will keep looking. We came in for a "late" Sunday lunch and were seated right away and given drinks and chips soon after. Their salsa has some flavor and that is the only reason we decided on 2 stars. My husband had a burrito and I had the enchiladas (supreme). We would have had tamales also but the waiter walked off before I finished ordering. When our food finally came out despite a "hot plate" it was lukewarm. The enchiladas were barely sauced with a cheap canned sauce that was bland. My husband's burrito was bland also. My wife and I don't often eat Mexican food, but on this keto diet we've been on for a month we've had to be creative on ways to keep meals interesting. My wife thought fajitas would be a good addition to the diet and found this restaurant on Yelp by searching for fajitas. I had wanted to try this place for some time due to the great reviews, so we headed out with our three year old daughter. The music is lively, which allowed us to play "dance" with our daughter, which was good because the service was a little slow, but the food was phenomenal and worth a slight wait! My wife had the Tapatios fajitas, which includes pretty much all the meats, and I had the steak and shrimp, which was also served like fajitas but prepared differently. The shrimp were fantastic! I didn't expect them to be so good, but I'm definitely ordering this one again. The sauce brought flavor to my dish that my wife fajitas didn't have, and we just had to look forlornly as our daughter ate our rice after she finished her quesadilla.
