The refried beans were hearty and not like the runny beans served at so many other Mexican restaurants. They were absolutely the best refried beans I have eaten in a LONG time. Keep in mind that this place is definitely upscale. Not the typical mx restaurant. The grouper tacos were excellent. Fresh tasting, not fishy at all. The person who ate them complained about how good they were because he over ate... We just laughed. "No one made you eat everything." The portions of my carnitas were very generous and I was able to take half of them home to enjoy the next day. Both diners who had the Volcanes raved about the delicious food. One person had avocado slices while the second had refried beans. Note, the stuffed jalapeno peppers will light your mouth on fire. Loved them but for those not into heat, beware. OMG the bread pudding was to die for. Giant serving and amazing. To top this off we had excellent service. The place was not very noisy, another plus.

My husband ordered carne asada and he said "Wow- this is cooked perfectly and that's hard to do"! The tortillas were authentic and the service great. The horchata was refreshing and delightful. I asked some Hispanic friends of mine about where to get some good authentic street tacos and they pointed me in the right direction . I went there yesterday and was pleasantly surprised that I was the only non-Hispanic person in the place. I ordered and had 6 Carne Asada and six Al Pastor Tacos with cilantro, onion, and their green sauce and was very impressed. I will be trying more items off of their menu and I'm sure I will be as impressed as I was with their Tacos . They definitely have a new customer in me.

We used to be regulars, and then we stopped going. The food isn't bad and for Canton the restaurant…read moremenu fits in nicely. So why 3 stars? It's the drink prices. No one in town charges more for a beer than this place. For example, I enjoy local IPAs and Creature Comforts (Athens) is everywhere. I can go to several other stops in town and pay less for a 16 oz can or pour of this beer. Compared to another decent stop down the street, three roses is almost 30% more. My wife says one of the wines she likes is a little less than other stops, so that's good. But other drink prices tend to be on the high side as well, but most in town have higher liquor prices. That adds up if you like to frequent a place. Hence, we stopped frequenting. Overall, I like the decor and as noted, the food is decent. The upstairs is better than the downstairs but I'm glad they have the downstairs for some occasion when they could get busy. As for the Tavern / entertainment element, I've never seen any live music but they have several TVs. Not sure this would be my top choice to watch a game but it would work in a pinch if the other places were too busy or noisy.

The mood was ruined by whiny acoustic music, probably picked by the staff and not for the customers. I can normally tune it out, but the uncharacteristic F*bombs coming from the speakers were a mood killer. And while waiting for my meal I heard the following exchange from the kitchen: "Your late!" "Are you going to fire me? Please send me home!" The hostile attitudes in the kitchen was unfortunately reflected in the meal. I ordered the fish and chips, and the fries were nicely cooked. The crust on the fish also looked good. But the fish inside was watery and unpleasant. It was also topped with a mass of cilantro sprigs, which did not pair with the flavors. I managed to scrape them all off. The fish was served with vinegar, ketchup, and (missing) tartar sauce. The friendly and attentive waitress was quick to correct the missing sauce, although it did take awhile. My meal also came with a side of slaw that would have been outstanding if the kitchen hadn't made a misstep of loading it with too much salt. The other seasonings in the slaw were excellent and unique and the addition of red onions was great, but sadly ruined by the saltiness. At the end of my meal I visited their modern and stylish restrooms. I'd arrived just after 5PM and on this weekday there were only a few patrons. So the stylish furnishing of the restroom were marred by the mess I encountered in there. Based on the number of employees compared to patrons, there wasn't an excuse for not cleaning that bathroom. I've seen truckstop restrooms that weren't that nasty.
