Dijon Potato salad, baked beans, bbq chopped and sweet tea.
    Steve D.

Here we are again - the BBQ connoisseur. I was needing a decent lunch, because today has been a hard day, without a breakfast, and it was now 2:00 in the afternoon. From the outside I thought with a name like Old Country Place it would be a meat and three but was surprised to find it a BBQ restaurant. It's cute. Concrete floors, metal chairs and wooden tables. Country music playing over the speakers but not too loud. Just about right. I ordered the pork plate chopped, with baked beans and Dijon potato salad. Let's start with the baked beans. They were sweet - just excellent. Then the potato salad. They were enjoyed to the last spoon full. The chopped pork was cooked to perfection. It was moist - it smelled great, and I was not disappointed. They offer 4 sauce choices. Two were not tried - Palmetto Gold and Carolina vinegar. I never caught a taste for mustard based sauces. I think it's a Carolina thing, and well honestly they just don't know bar be que like those of us who say, "Roll Tide." I tried the Spicy red sauce first - My gosh it was hot. I think I liked it, but I probably damaged my lips and my nose started running. But then I tried the sweet sauce. Yes, this was it! Excellence in a squirt bottle! The service was fast and excellent. I give this place a really nice score - an 8/10. It is a great local bbq eatery. We don't live near here, so it'll just be me eating here from time to time when I'm passing by, but if we did live close, Old Country Place would be our Friday night go to - especially on our way to a High School football game.

We came into this place after visiting a nearby as a group. 3 families with kids. BBQ is their speciality. The interiors are good and they had a huge table to fit all of us. They also had good kids food and for adults as well. Our server was nice and the food came in orderly fashion without much delay. When it comes to taste I tried the 2 meats and 2 sides platter. Had the chicken and brisket and it was good. It was the first time eating brisket. I felt I would love it after seeing it in TV. Not a great fan of brisket for the taste buds filled with chicken tikka masala and regular steak. But I really appreciate the way the brisket was prepared. The sides were great and loved and my kid did eats all his cheeseburger. Overall great place.

We found this place online and the menu was intriguing. The food was excellent. Portion sizes won't overwhelm you but are beyond adequate. The server was super helpful with the menu and very knowledgeable. The ambiance was very nice like an old country store. We will definitely be back.

Pretty rockin' BBQ spot! I ordered the sliced brisket plate with green beans and Mac n cheese Brunswick stew! I must say aside from the meats, the sides here are great! Service here is always great and food has always been pretty solid! I recommend if you're in the area!

This was our first time at Old Country place. The wait staff was very inviting. I ordered the $10 lunch special bbq brisket sandwich with a side of collard greens. My hubby ordered a bbq pork sandwich with fries. When the food came out it looked so yummy. The brisket was melt in your mouth. I chose to mix the Carolina mustard sauce and the sweet bbq together. It was the perfect combination of tangy and sweet. The bun was super fresh and soft too. My collards were very good, just like mama used to make. My hubby was in love with the pulled pork sandwich. He said it was extremely tender. We will definitely be back to this restaurant. Mac and cheese and the potato salad are next for me.

Old Country Place it was so nice to meat you! OCP is nestled in a shopping center so parking is no issue. Online ordering is a breeze. Staff is super friendly and kind. There are cute chairs and decor outside which came in handy when waiting for our order. So far we have tried the following: Brisket ($28.50 for 1lb with two sides) Baby Back Ribs ($32 for full rack with two sides) BBQ Burger ($10.50 with one side) Southern Green Beans (included with entree) Bama Slaw (included with entree) BBQ Baked Beans (included with entree) Mac & Cheese (included with entree) Peach Cobbler ($6) Pecan Pie ($6) The brisket was lovely. A good smoke flavor and not dry. There was a nice bark, too! The baby back ribs were great and fall-off-the-bone tender. I love that you can order a large portion of the meats and they still come with sides. These each came with two which was great. The mac & cheese was incredible with an amazing cheese crust on top. I was sad all that creaminess was over. The baked beans, green beans, and slaw were good. I'd get them again, but they were not the best I've had. They were perfectly satisfying though so no complaints! The BBQ burger was drool-worthy! I don't even particularly like pulled pork and I thought this burger was amazing. A beef patty, fat stack of pulled pork, and some slaw (y'all know I love my salty + sweet). There were other toppings on there, too, and the bun was expertly selected. This really was a great burger, I was pleasantly surprised! The desserts were okay. Perfectly tasty and a wonderful close to a meal, just not fantastic versions of what they are. The pecan pie was really thin. I would have loved more of that gooey center with a decent amount of volume. The peach cobbler was moist and had great spices, but we were missing peaches! There were two pieces in the entire slice we got. I would have loved so much more peach cobbler. This ate more like wet spiced cake with a peach garnish. There are so many other tasty things on the menu. We will absolutely be back sometime soon for some repeats and some new things. We have been looking for BBQ relatively close to us and this one seems to fit the bill! So happy we tried it.

Let's just get straight to it. The smoked peach salad was absolutely DELECTABLE! Oh my goodness, who knew my tastebuds needed smoked peaches. Everything about that salad was perfect. 10/10!!! For my side I had the bbq baked beans and some coleslaw..... Girl...... they did it right . I would've never imagined myself eating coleslaw, but it was so good. It had a little kick to it and it wasn't watery. It was perfect. The baked beans were sooooo flavorful. It had onions and bell peppers and it was so well seasoned. Definitely the best bbq baked beans I've had from a restaurant. Now onto that raggedy burger.... It was the most plain burger I've ever had in my life. No salt, pepper, NOTHING. I'm sure they just took the meat straight from the packaging to the stove because there was no flavor. The beans and coleslaw had to work overtime. Other than that, I had a pleasant experience. I would like to try their brisket. Hopefully that won't disappoint. We shall see

When I tell you...Their Turkey is THE BEST!! And I'm from Kansas City! It was tender, flavorful, juicy, & delicious! I've ordered it every time (4 in total) that we go. And I even ordered via delivery and it was still Amazeballz!! I don't know what they do to it or how, but it is hands down my favorite Smoked Turkey ever! The wings were big and delicious!! So good!! The pulled pork was tender & flavorful. To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised with everything we all ordered. And the feel of The restaurant was welcoming and ambiance was true to them! Service was phenomenal!! The owner even came by and actually made rounds throughout our entire service to the whole restaurant! Overall, a great experience!! If you haven't been, you need to go NOW!

    Country Fried Steak

This place never disappoints. I can't wait till the car show next weeks and try their brunch. But for now we settled on this amazing country fried steak, redneck lazagna, and southern green beans. Lots of flavor, hot food, cooked in the healthiest fat beef tallow. Their southern caprese, sausage bites with pimento cheese dip are so good too. You can never go wrong with southern bbq cooked so well. Don't forget the waiters are just as nice as the food. They even play country music on the radio. It is just all around my all time favorite place to eat. The bbq sauce comes in 4 flavors all homemade. The smoke turkey is better than any turkey I ever had.

There is no chance to take one Nacho out and eat it. It was a plate full of items, you must eat with Fork and Knife. You can't eat it as it's supposed to be. And the taste was not what we expected for these $20+ Nachos. I just ate a little and threw it away at home, especially after my wife and I had to throw up like me. And $6.50 for a little cheese dip is way too much. A draft beer almost $7 and ugly Margaritas even more. The Fajitas looked better than the nachos , but only the chicken and tortillas were a separated from the rest. It was a similar pile of ingredients like my nachos with the same reaction of my wife's stomach. W/o silverware, you can't eat anything of what we ordered. We both decided to throw every piece of our leftover away immediately, even it was more than 70%. To dangerous of getting food poisoning ! The House Blend Margarita was also an absolute nasty taste. After two zips , we ordered a different version. In Summary: it was one of the ugliest food and drink we had in the last 20 years, and the experience cost us $90. We should have eat at MC Donalds, because the food would have been 10x better and the price only 10% of the price from this "food". I don't recommend this restaurant at all. Usually I don't do negative reviews, but in this case, I don't see anything positive, besides our waitress. And I am sure, I am not the only one who had this experience ! The place is loud due to the height and the uncovered ceiling. Kids ate there in the same time, made us not to able to have a nice and relaxing conversation. Not even the waiter understood what we said and the opposite. Not a place to take your love ones to have a relaxing time ! WE WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN !!!

Their other restaurant, Sahara Grill, was our first meal with this group. I knew walking into that store that it'd be great food and it was... but we're not here to talk about Sahara. The theming of the restaurant lets you know that it's family run and that the food will be good... you can tell. You can tell. All of the food is good and honestly the lunch specials are impossible to beat. However, skip all of that, grab a friend and order the Ultimate platter. just one. The grilled chicken looks like it'll be dry and tough based on the fact that it's actually grilled and actually has grill marks. WRONG. it's fantastic. it's so juicy and if you're not careful you'll burn the roof of your mouth b/c they actually cook your food to order. The gyro meat looks like any other. Don't worry and don't blame Naar. blame whoever created gyro meat 10000 years ago. I will say again... incredibly flavorful. how and why? I don't know, but it's so good. The kofta is fantastic as well. yet again. how? it's such simple food and they didn't let it be boring. The rice is not just rice. I'm not sure how it's not, but it's a perfect accompaniment to the super rich meats. We typically split one platter for two people and last time we left with extras. Bonus tip - order the same for the kids and you'll have even more leftovers. The gyro warms up perfectly well. Second bonus tip - ask for the two sauce options they have. There's a garlic and a taziki that pair so well. Bring lots of gum. Definitely try this place.

Last night may very well be the last time. My wife ordered the trout with fingerling potatoes and an arugula salad, and I had the special - Blackened snapper with what was described as creamy risotto and charred broccolini. The snapper made it to the plate, but the risotto was a big gloppy mess that looked more like a pile of instant mashed potatoes. Gordon Ramsey would not have thrown it across the room only because it would have probably stuck to his hand on the release. What should have been broccolini were thin, overcooked wisps of asparagus. I pointed the risotto out to the waiter, and he ran off to tell the chef. Meanwhile I ate what was left and decided not to complain any further... But wait, there's more! When the server returns, he explains that the risotto is premade and any subsequent portions would be the same. P R E M A D E! Any restaurant premaking risotto needs to be shut down, or never allowed to say the word risotto ever again. He offered a substitute so I ordered the fingerling potatoes. Off the server goes to get them. Meanwhile, my wife politely turns to me and says, "I didn't want to say anything, but this trout is flavorless". Then less than two minutes later she bites into some fingerling potatoes and chips a filling on a stone. I wish that this was the end of the saga. Our server returns with the fingerling potatoes and says "I comped these for you". Excuse me? That's when I decide to clue him in... Mind you I only told him of the other issues with my dish because my wife didn't want to say anything about hers - she just wanted to get out of there. When the check arrives, I'm expecting the manager to come over and apologize. I'm also assuming that beside the comped, unseasoned fingerling potatoes, my entree would be discounted or comped entirely. Nope. Just my server with a smile and a "to go" box of broccolini - I'm assuming this was some sort of apology. They ended up in the trash at home. I will say that my server was a pleasant young man, and I'm assuming that this is his first job waiting tables. I started by saying that this could be the last time we eat at 7 Acres. I'm waiting to see if the manager/owner sees this review and reaches out. I can't believe they would condone this quality of food or attitude towards customers.

No one in town charges more for a beer than this place. For example, I enjoy local IPAs and Creature Comforts (Athens) is everywhere. I can go to several other stops in town and pay less for a 16 oz can or pour of this beer. Compared to another decent stop down the street, three roses is almost 30% more. My wife says one of the wines she likes is a little less than other stops, so that's good. But other drink prices tend to be on the high side as well, but most in town have higher liquor prices. That adds up if you like to frequent a place. Hence, we stopped frequenting. Overall, I like the decor and as noted, the food is decent. The upstairs is better than the downstairs but I'm glad they have the downstairs for some occasion when they could get busy. As for the Tavern / entertainment element, I've never seen any live music but they have several TVs. Not sure this would be my top choice to watch a game but it would work in a pinch if the other places were too busy or noisy.
