Cozy little gem of a restaurant with absolutely fantastic food - highly recommend - and so affordable to boot! We stopped by for lunch and were really impressed with the quality of the food and the great customer service we received. We started our meal with the crab dip and hush puppies and it was a great start to our meal. Everything arrived warm and fresh and delicious and great for sharing. For our entree we ordered the special pasta of the day which was a pesto sauce pasta with chicken and the shrimp and grits. Two completely different types of dishes and both were absolutely FANTASTIC! The pesto sauce of the pasta dish was one of the best pesto sauces we have had in a really long time. Absolutely delicious. The shrimp and grits was just perfection the very best grits I've also had in a long time. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and the whole dish was so full of flavor. Truly one of the best dishes I've had in a long time. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Best part - the restaurant was so affordable (especially for a seafood restaurant) which we loved as well. We have dined at many expensive seafood restaurants over the years and most are simply overpriced and the food is usually ok but not wow by any means. I can truly say the food at this restaurant was WOW, and at a great price point. The shrimp and grits was only $17 for a large plate of delicious food it was 100% worth it and more. Service was great as well, everyone was very friendly and attentive, and made great recommendations for dishes to try. Overall, one of the best dining experiences we have had in some time. I'm always hunting for good seafood, so I was curious whether a another chef led restaurant in a landlocked town in the metro Atlanta could pull it off. First good sign: the bartender had classic bartender energy. Easy to talk to and good at what he does. Looking at the menu, I immediately noticed some French touches, including escargot, which you almost never see around here. I had to try it. It wasn't the best escargot I've ever had, but when a place in Canton is putting it on the menu, you give them credit for the effort. The real reason I came in was the oysters. I'm a big Roberto's in downtown Woodstock fan, which I consider the oyster mecca of the area. So I was curious if Canton had anything comparable. To their credit, Going Coastal actually does oysters properly. Not just the usual generic stuff. They had Murder Points, which tells me someone in the kitchen cares about quality and sourcing. I also ordered a piece of fish. They cook it to order and let you choose how you want it prepared. Some people want the chef's call, others like control. We've been to Goin' Coastal a few times but I've forgotten to take photos. Today I accomplished the task! We met a friend for lunch. It was moderately busy and the ambiance is dark and moody. The dining room was clean and intimate with tables and high back booths. My shrimp tacos were remarkable! Cooked to perfection with a little bite of crisp, there were flavorful! I arrived a bit before 5PM dinner rush on a sunny Thursday evening. I was able to park about a block away and enjoy the weather. There were only a couple of patrons so I was able to get a seat immediately. They offer tables and booths. The waitress arrived shortly to take my drink order and when it was delivered I place an order for the friend shrimp entree and requested the lobster mac-n-cheese as a side. The Lobster Mac isn't listed as a side dish on the menu, but is on the website. Due to a kitchen mix up I ended up with the full size dish as my side, but they didn't charge me for that, and I was able to take the leftovers home to enjoy the next day. The entree came with a salad, and they accommodated my request to swap a Caesar as my side salad and it even was served with the official anchovy (very mild and not salty). The dressing had a great flavor and the croutons were excellent. My entree was wonderfully plump jumbo shrimp with perfectly flash-fried crispness. The sauces were good, with the cocktail sauce being a bit sweeter that the bottled stuff. I was very impressed and I want to bring my wife and explore more of their delicious dishes. read more

We had dinner here while on vacation. I was not sure what to order so I wound up getting two appetizers as my meal - shrimp cocktail and yellowfin tuna. The tuna was served an ailio that was a bit spicy and I thought the tuna was a tad over-cooked. In fact, the shrimp were a little overcooked as well. The cocktail sauce did have a good flavor. My husband and I disagree on the small cornbread muffins that were brought out - there were 4 or 5 of them. One had green on the inside - was that green onion, jalapeno or mold? While it's been awhile since we've been to Goin Coastal, we've been fans of theirs way back when they were in VaHi and supported them through Covid and many time since. Tonight was disappointing from both a service and food perspective. The good: we had a reservation and were seated promptly. The warm shrimp and crab appetizer was very good (though we could've used more toasted bread). My daughter's salmon (the special) was tasty and well prepared. The not-so-good: service and pacing of the meal. Our server did her job but was not as attentive or as friendly as we've had on other visits. She didn't check on us so we couldn't request more bread for the dip/appetizer. When we went to place our dinner orders at 6:45ish, they were already out of redfish and grouper. Fast forward to a lull after the dip was eaten, the salad arrived but our other app, a dozen oysters, were still MIA. At that point, we told the server if the oysters weren't already shucked to please cancel them since our mains should be arriving shortly. When the entrees did arrive, the food was fine but not outstanding as in all our previous visits. We were used to being wow''d at Goin Coastal and tonight was just mediocre. Our first lunch visit with friends and sorry to say, we were disappointed. Hostess wasn't very friendly or welcoming; the menu was much more limited than expected; the food was just ok - mostly fried offerings that could have been gotten anywhere. I expected more from an upscale fish restaurant. On the plus side, our server was very attentive and pleasant; no complaints there! My fried shrimp salad, with a side of hush puppies was generous and tasty. But the shrimp wasn't as hot and crispy as I had hoped and some were chewy. My husband's fish sandwich with fries was just ok, as were my friend's fish tacos. The experience just wasn't as great as we had been expecting as we were looking forward to a tasty serving of some fresh fish! Stopped in for a late lunch and ordered the grilled fish sandwich with a side of fries. The fries were great and enjoyed the remoulade but the fish was almost nonexistent...looked like they scraped the scrapes off of the grill. It was perfectly cooked and soft and juicy, served with green beans with cherry tomatoes and roasted potatoes. My friend had Lobster Mac and cheese, and it was wonderful too. For dessert, we had a little pastry sampler. They were cute and tasty. It was nice to have some variety and a small dessert. Sometimes, those big sweets after dinner are too much to handle after a great meal. Seems that locals hang out at this place. It is perfectly located close to the Cherokee County Courthouse and a Theater on East Main Street. As far as parking goes, you might have to circle around the block a few times, if you are not familiar with the back entrance. We sat in the back dining room, and it was very nice. Service was good, but not extremely personable. Maybe the server was low keyed because it was a private event. Might be a great place to work since she has worked there 10 years. Tried Going Coastal for dinner tonight and enjoyed our visit. This converted old downtown Canton venue has so much character, charm, and warmth. Service was fast and efficient but not rushed. Grilled Salmon was cooked perfectly, moist, tender, and tasty. The filet was deliciously tender after the initial overcooked steak was replaced with a medium rare steak which was as originally ordered. Unfortunately, my wife was done with her dinner before my replacement arrived. It would have been nice if they at least left me my vegetables to eat while waiting. As for the salad, it was quite good with a nice variety of ingredients such as onions, beets, garbonzo beans, and hearts of palm. All of the above were quite good and enjoyable. The mini dessert sampler however was nothing special and I'd say below average in taste and quality. Best to skip this dessert choice. Definitely a place worth visiting again. read more

Apps. Fried Pickles ... lemme just say, whenever I see this on the menu, my pallet waters. I have to say the majority of my experiences w/ ordering them is not always so good. Saying this, I asked the questions from my lessons learned: are they thinly cut & battered heavy or lightly. I have to say that I did not regret ordering them. The batter was perfectly crusted & golden yellow. FRESH!!!! The oil was not transparent on them...U can tell this venue changes their oil. Crab Baked Oysters. The sauce was a bit on the heavy side, but otherwise wasn't bad. Didn't taste the crab as much. Entree. Blackened Rainbow Trout, filet very thin. To say that all of the fish served is @ 8oz, it did not look as such, maybe w/ the skin on, it coulda added weight. Anyway, to say it was Blackened, it did not meet my taste buds as I expected to taste the blacked seasonings. SwordFish in Miso. Now, this looked all the 8oz it may have weighed=*} The BokChoy, Spinach, and the rest of the accompanying veggies weren't overcooked, more like Al Dante, which was a plus so the nutrients weren't soaked out of them=*}. The texture of the fish was very healthy. Each of the flake would slide off the rest of the filet & did not disappoint. Ambiance. Although there were no white table clothes, the dining rm was kept very well maintained. If U don't make reservations, the seating choices will be on the side of the venue by the bar. No place of seating looked bad in any area of the restaurant. Service. Our server was on point! She cleaned our table most expeditiously. She saw a soiled plate & didn't wait until we were dining to clear them from our table. She also boxed up our appetizers wayyyy prior to our entrees being served so we happy about that. My family and I didn't feel welcome here. The service was meh, and the food was surprisingly poor given the restaurant's rating and number of reviews. I got the shrimp and grits. They were cold and not seasoned well. They are served with both fried and sautéed shrimp. The sautéed shrimp tasted old, as if pre-prepared and just sitting around until they were stuck in my grits. The fried shrimp were just tiny. The entire dish could have used salt. At any rate we had a fairly large party, and there weren't many other patrons in there when we were there. So, there was no excuse for subpar service or food. The sentiment around our table was the same from everyone. That said, it wasn't an enjoyable experience and we won't be back. read more

Inside is a cool old vibe with exposed brick in downtown Canton. Services top notch in the entire restaurant. Fish and specials are magnificent. My GoTo favorite is still the fish over miso soy. Went for a relaxing meal after a hard day of golf. We tried the alligator tail, crab gumbo and lobster bisque for appetizers. The alligator was kind of a cross between chicken and calamari. I tried the gumbo ... very tasty with just a little kick. The lobster bisque was excellent as always. We had halibut, coastal salmon, parm crusted salmon and the shrimp Cobb salad. The Cobb salad was huge and could have been a meal for the table. A table salad was brought as well. Service was good and my tea glass was kept full. The place was full and a little loud. We celebrated my wife's birthday dinner here. Our server Courtney (sp?) was great: friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and receptive to feedback. As always, the restaurant is clean and welcoming. Citrus seemed to be a focal point of flavoring with many of the items we ordered (crab fritters, Cobia & corn risotto, lemon vinaigrette dressed salad), as it should be with seafood. I was a little disappointed in the amount of crab in the fritters, for the price point, and I also was expecting a more savory profile for the fritters; sweetness is something best served with dessert, not appetizers, but that's just my opinion. My miso style monkfish could have benefitted from some salt or soy sauce, the fish was slightly undercooked so the seared crispiness of a pan sautéed fish filet wasn't quite there (but between over and under, I'll take under every time), and the miso flavor did not show up at all. However, when I brought this to the attention of our server, she brought out a house made shoyu sauce that livened up the dish. All in all, Goin' Coastal is still the best option for seafood in Canton, but at their price point, they plated it safe rather than plating it bold. Excellent seafood (thank goodness), but 3 things that stood out and rattled the evening and must be said...1) Bathrooms MUST be RETURNED to separate male/female and STOP with the shared toilets. Very embarrassing walking in on a man tonight! He left the seat left up with urine all over it. Bathroom was a dirty mess at 6:56pm. I couldn't touch anything in there and 'held it' for the rest of our dinner. 2) TURN UP the lights! Had to use our phones to read menus 3) Teach the hostess to clean tables correctly. I watched her wipe a booth table with a blue filthy rag and she wiped all the food onto the floor and left it there for the next guests to step in! My husband and I were shocked! My family has been going to Goin Coastal for years, ever since it opened and there is clearly a decline in quality and value for the food and the service is also sub par. They used to be the best in town for fish, but now there are several other places with better fish and at better prices. Last meal we had there, any sodas ordered were not carbonated, when we mentioned it the waiter, she said she wanted to be patient with the Barman so we waited 20 minutes for a replacement soda. The service was slow and tables too close. The lobster Mac and Cheese was dry with very little meat. Tonight's dinner fell two notches but still a sturdy good dinner rating. We opted to sit by the window and ordered our cocktails. But what seems like a record time we got our old fashioned. Sure enough we got a reckless soy of a weak liquor and a huge slice of orange and a cherry. Not skillful in any way shape or form. Secondly we were approached by our server who seemed to be nice but had difficulties knowing when to leave our table. I had to at several times tell him that we would call for him. We opted for a stuffed mushrooms with seafood which was excellent. Moving to dinner my significant other ordered the filet mignon which was perfectly cooked and came with a side of roasted squashed fingerling potatoes . All was good but the Demi was a tad too salty. I opted for the coastal Bowl which is like a seafood boil but with a twist. Potatoes andouille sausage, scallops, shrimp, mussels, in a rich seafood sauce which was fine at first but leaned on the side of being too salty as well. For a place that was kind of slow we hit all sorts of speed tonight. I think with a bit more training this guy would be I. Good shape. Just remember, if you can let put the info in your handheld ordering system, don't make us wait until you are done to move in to the next step. Rough chapter in this restaurants history. Arrived to find a health certificate on the window scoring a 73. Seated quickly in the main room with flickering lights turned way down for some reason. Appetizer special wasn't properly seasoned and was served at a low temp. We waited 40 minutes to get our main course only to send back a side dish that came out cold. Temps and seasoning were all over the place. Not a great night. Manager came to see us, gave some credit on the check and offered a free dessert but we probably won't be back. Price range: $$, pricey but worth it Parking: free street parking Service: 5/5 i was a walk-in and was provided a few options for seating and sat immediately. I was checked on frequently and never needed to flag down my waitress. Food: -Cave Rose/ bubbly, crisp but not too dry -salmon toast 5/5, generous portions of smoked salmon, soft bread and the most flavorful goat cheese spread! -BBQ shrimp: 3/5, decent portion of shrimp, bread was tacit too thick and should be served on the side, BBQ sauce was just okay -Corvina: 5/5, my first time trying this fish and was flaky and delicious, on the sweeter side and not at all fishy.
