I ordered my meal through delivery. Today beef stew was the entree. It was not good, stew should be thick and hearty this was soupy. The mashed potatoes were bland. The best part of the meal was the jalapeño cornbread. Gonna be a while before Cody J's is on my radar again! read more

Absolutely do not miss this hidden gem. This reminds me of an old diner locally owned. The staff is super friendly and I thought I would try my luck and have a breakfast bowl made à la cart style and let me tell you they did not disappoint and hit it dead on. Our waitress looked at my meal and said I would absolutely have never thought to do it that way, but that is exactly how I will eat. Mine from now on the food was great service was great. Great food, just like mom uses to make (God rest her soul). This place is like the fictional bar in the TV show "Cheers" where everybody knows your name. Far removed from any retail corridor this establishment is located in the middle of industrial Cartersville. Being closed on weekends it limited our opportunity to try it for breakfast. We finally gave it a weekday visit and glad we did. Kind of your typical southern dive with the usual menu items. Nice atmosphere friendly service and the food is very good. read more

Cody J's is one of those places that just makes you feel good. The food isn't stellar by any means, but if you are in the mood for something close to what your momma made, this is the place to go. The breakfast special is the best. I always get fried bologna (2 pieces included), a homemade biscuit, peppered white gravy, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, and coffee. I think the special has gone up recently by a dollar or two, but all of that food used to be $3.99! Even at $5.99, you can't beat it. Dinner is also good, but you have to call ahead to know what is being served. There is usually a choice of three or four main dishes such as pork chops, fried chicken, and lasagna, several sides, and a few desserts/cobblers. Only open for breakfast and lunch during the week, except dinner is also served on Wednesday and Thursday nights. read more

So, I just started working in the Cartersville area, and I asked a colleague who is from here to tell me where to eat. This was number one on her list, and I was a little hesitant at first. It was a bit of a drive down some roads I likely wouldn't have encountered for any other reason, and once I saw so many cars parked outside this tiny place I thought for sure it was going to be a nightmare getting seated and a distinct possibility that I would get a "you ain't from 'round here, is ya?" attitude from wait staff. I could not have been more wrong. This place has such great use of its space! It's not big, but they have a center horseshoe-shaped bar that can easily seat around 20 people, and four-person tables all along the walls. The decor is minimal so that people can get in. The specials were printed on cards at the tables and bar and written on a chalk board, but they also have a menu to look at in addition to the specials. The waitress I had was very kind and attentive, and she had great recommendations. I enjoyed a country fried steak, which was surprisingly served with brown and not white gravy - but it was delicious, so I didn't mind a bit! The pinto beans and fried okra were great sides, and the whipped potatoes were okay (They were a bit too whipped for my tastes - I prefer smashed!), also covered in delicious brown gravy upon request. I had a chance to chat with a guy who sat at the stool next to mine at the bar, and everyone in there seemed very kind. It was a local crowd, but that's how you know a place is good! I've got a few more places to try, but I'll definitely come here some day to try out their breakfast offerings! read more

I suppose it's unfair to review the food seeing as how we were never even served. But based on the treatment we received upon entering their restaurant, I won't return even if their food is excellent. The service is non-existent and the atmosphere outright chilly from the staff and other patrons. BEWARE: this place has a definite "good old boy" southern vibe, meaning that if you aren't one of the 'regulars', you're invisible. I am always very kind (and forgiving - up to a point) when it comes to overworked staff. I've waited tables myself. But when we entered this establishment it was after the lunch rush and there was only 2 tables seated. The place was virtually empty but no one even said "hello" or "can we seat you"? We were straight up ignored. We finally had to stop an employee walking right past us and ask "do we seat ourselves?". She at least said "yes" but then continued on her way. We then sat down and after a few minutes a server finally asked for our drinks. We waited several more minutes for our water and then after it arrived - nothing. The only attention consistently paid to us from that point onward was from other patrons - and it was unwelcoming stares and whispering. We waited 10 minutes and our server never even came back to see us. Finally, we left. What a waste of time. Unless you're an established customer or a masochist, spare yourself the aggravation of paying someone else to ignore you. read more

I "started" (and finished) visiting this establishment within the past month. I ordered the hamburger and fries thrice and loved it. I wanted to go back and have another for lunch day after day. So I did. I ordered for the fourth time and couldn't wait to taste it again. I took a bite and it was steamy and tasted great. I took another, it wasn't as hot this time. I took another and it was just plain cold. I was severely disappointed (and fooled). I took a couple more bites to see if it was some trick, but it was cold all throughout. Cody J's most likely makes the patties at an earlier time and stores them in the refrigerator and reheats them in the microwave for fast service. I read so many good reviews, but I cannot and will not support this establishment who are bold enough to heat your food up in the microwave and expect you not to notice. A couple days later after I complained to everyone at the office about it, another coworker went and did the same thing. She got "unlucky" as well, and ate a cold burger, and proceeded to tell the others of the dilemma. Good reviews for this restaurant reflect the microwave-burnt taste buds of Cody J's patrons. This is no more home-cooking than any fast food place. read more

The place is not what you would call big but big enough and has a family feel to it. If you like southern cooking this is the place to go. The food is very consistent so if you like what you order it will be the same next time. They make different deserts every day. You can pick a meat and as many vegetables as you want, most pick two. If you dine in the vegetables you order come with free refills so no need to leave hungry and the prices are family friendly. If you don't see anything on their different daily menu you want just ask for a menu and there you will find many short order items to choose from. I love their chili cheese burger.... Its huge and made with 100% ground beef. Love the place and we eat there often and its so much better than the chain restaurants in town. read more

Cody J's has the most AMAZING Summer Salad!!! Nice crisp lettuce with Cranraisins, pecans, strawberries a hint of cheese and the BEST Strawberry Vinaigrette dressing that they make there! Hard to believe that this place is number 5 on the list for breakfast in Cartersville. I would place it near or at the top based on a recent trip there on a Monday. My wife had eggs, bacon and grits and was completely satisfied, especially with the grits. I had the sweet potato pancake and was amazed with the taste of the pancakes, cinnamon flavored pecans, and whipped cream on top. Two pancakes were more than I could eat and I will certainly return to get my "fix" of this favorite of mine. Only reason I did not give 5 stars is that the tables are a bit close together which means you will be cozy with your neighbors, but maybe it was that the table next to us just had some "big" boys having breakfast. Portion sizes here are big since two pancakes were more than I could eat, so next time, I may just order one. As other have stated, this is out of the way for most everyone, but well worth the trip for the great food, friendly and fast service, and very reasonable prices. Everything met expectations including the restroom being spotlessly clean. A quick glance into the kitchen on the way to the restroom left me with an impression of clean and organized based on this somewhat limited view into their food prep area. This is a local joint for the mills in the area. Their hours of operation leave something to be desired. If you work or live in the area this is a good place to get a home-cooked meal. My personal favorite is their grilled chicken salad. Their other stuff is good but this salad, I have truly missed it since I don't work in Cartersville anymore. read more
