I rarely leave negative reviews for new places, but my experience at Bourbon Pear was bad enough that I feel obligated to warn others. From the moment we sat down, the staff showed zero sense of hospitality. No greeting, no introduction, no explanation of specials, no offer of drinks or time to settle in. Instead, we were immediately pressured with a blunt "Are you ready to order?" -- as if we were inconveniencing them by simply arriving. I understand the desire to turn tables, but this was aggressive, rude, and completely inhospitable. The menu was also a major letdown given the hype and pricing. It's a very basic grill lineup: frozen patty burgers "wagyu" overhype, the same tired salmon and steak options you can find almost anywhere, all dressed up with premium pricing that the food absolutely does not justify. When we asked questions, the servers seemed unsure and lacked confidence or knowledge about how dishes were prepared, which does not inspire trust or enthusiasm. The overall vibe feels less like a restaurant and more like a bar masquerading as a dining destination. Add in young, clearly undertrained staff and a rushed, transactional atmosphere, and the experience becomes downright unpleasant. This place feels toxic from the top down -- poorly managed, poorly trained, and uninterested in creating a welcoming environment. Based on my experience and what I've since seen echoed in other reviews, I would be genuinely surprised if this establishment is still operating a year from now. There are far better places in Livermore that actually value their guests. I won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend anyone else spend their money or time here either. Had a night out with friends here. The blood orange tini was delicious as was the Shrimp and Grits. The reason for only two stars is that they have a policy that is just ridiculous. At the bottom of their receipt it states "in the event that guest takes both receipts, an 18% gratuity will be added". I understand this can be a hassle for servers but 18% is ludicrous. The service was welcoming and attentive from the moment we walked in -- our server was kind, patient, and made the whole experience feel special. We started with the burrata and caprese, plus the crispy Brussels sprouts appetizer -- both were phenomenal. The burrata was creamy and fresh, perfectly paired with vibrant tomatoes and a drizzle of balsamic, while the Brussels sprouts had the perfect crisp and seasoning. We were so full by the end, we didn't even touch the Black & Blue Salad we ordered to share... but no regrets -- we split it later for dinner and it was still delicious hours later! Pretty good portion and cheesy with good flavor. - Nashville Chicken (we got it with hot sauce): the chicken was sweet rather than hot and there was just way too much sauce. The chicken was also a bit small for the bread so ratio was off. Not impressed. We got it with side of Caesar, salad was ok, pretty standard. - Short Ribs: The meat was good but could have been more tender, a really good one just melts in your mouth - this didn't. Recently had company Christmas party for 16 employees on a Friday evening. We sat down as a group at 4:40pm, ordered drinks, appetizers, and entrees. After ordering a round of deserts and drinks for the table, the manager comes over at 6:48pm and rudely states asks if we can wrap up the party due to her having to turn people away because of available seating. Our table was 3 tables pushed together. This was unprofessional and quite rude. What she failed to realize was a few things: 1- when accepting a party of this size, she needs to let the customer know their is a time limit(which she didn't) 2. We spent over $2,000 during our meal, I doubt those three tables would have accumulated anything even close to that 3. The manager stated she had to turn 3 customers away due to our party, not realizing she just lost all 16 customers at the table, due to her actions. I am a big fan of supporting local businesses, but not this one. read more

My girlfriend and I decided to try out The Bourbon Pear last night. The menu seemed interesting and fun, so we were looking forward to it. When we arrived, the host was friendly but seemed a bit disorganized. We were seated inside-- the ambiance was okay, but it felt like the place could really use a deep clean. Our server was polite and patient, which we appreciated. After placing our order, we waited about 15-20 minutes. Unfortunately, that's when things started to go downhill. I ordered the Wagyu burger, which was $20. It seemed like it had been frozen--the center was cold, and it had fake grill marks. There was no Maillard reaction at all. The patty was dry and gray throughout, with no flavor or juiciness. My girlfriend ordered the shrimp and grits, priced at $30. It came with exactly seven shrimp and maybe two cups of grits. She found it bland, under-seasoned, and called it "mediocre at best." In my opinion, they need to seriously review their menu, pricing, and kitchen operations. The cleanliness also needs attention. Having worked in both low-end and high-end restaurants for years, I can confidently say The Bourbon Pear relies heavily on gimmicks and buzzwords to draw people in, but uses cheap ingredients and doesn't seem to care about the quality of their food. read more

A couple of months ago, I had a disappointing meal at Bourbon Pear and wrote a Yelp review about it. Shortly after, the manager reached out to truly understand what had gone wrong. What impressed me most was that she actually listened--and then made changes based on our conversation. She invited me back to try the meal again, and I'm so glad I did. I was amazed--not only was the food fabulous this time (homemade biscuits, hot gravy, and yes, some green on the plate!), but it was clear that my feedback genuinely mattered. The wait staff was friendly and professional, as always. What really sets this restaurant apart, though, is the management. I'd probably butcher her name if I tried to spell it, but I can confidently say the manager of Bourbon Pear is truly one of a kind. Being from KY, I was excited to try this place out as bourbon runs in our blood. First, the service is very slow. Second, the food quality was barely edible. Lastly, way way overpriced. We got the pear quesadilla, the cheese had zero flavor and the pear shoved in there was very odd and added no value. Just an odd crunch. The sauce with it little flavor. I got the smoked chicken salad sandwich and my Co-worker got the grilled cheese sandwich. She liked the cheese skirt but said the sandwich had no flavor. My chicken salad was also bland, lacked any flavor and I am not sure if they added any of the items in the mix. The bread on my sandwich was a very buttered toasted. I am from the south so we like this but I can see my bf out here hating it. I can toast my own bread...what did I pay for?? The best item was the fries. But I got a very little amount and the ketsup tasted bad. I will first start with no i didn't complain to management. I came here when this restaurant first opened, it was very good, fresh food, good service. I have visited multiple times since this first visit and each time the food quality and service has declined which is really a bummer. My son and i came tonight. Salmon plate and steak salad, just ok. $100 later and just not worth it. My son stated we could have just gone to Hawaiian bbq for half the price and twice the food and good quality. I really want to support downtown but i just seem to get disappointed each time. I will always give places another try but please try and do better. Shoot. We've visited every Rodney Worth location including the amazing Worth Ranch BBQ in San Ramon which sadly closed a few years ago. Unfortunately, The Bourbon Pear is the first Worth location that really missed the mark. First, it's INSANELY loud inside. A Wednesday evening should be fairly sedate but we found ourselves (our family of 4) yelling to talk to each other. It's a completely open floor with highly reflective surfaces. From the time we sat down to the time our meals were in front of us was 45 minutes. This was something I couldn't figure out for the life of me. Two salads, an order of Mac and Cheese and some chicken fingers shouldn't take 45 minutes. I think we saw our waiter three times the entire night. He appeared to be doing something in back on the other side of a strange pony wall. It looked like maybe he was washing dishes? My daughter's Mac and Cheese had clearly been sitting out for quite some time. It was cold and crusted over on the top. I suspect there was an issue in the kitchen and while they should have remade her dish, they didn't As an appetizer, we ordered the fondue. Instead of a normal fondue setup, they brought out a bowl of cold cheese and a tiny tea candle to heat it up. It never got warm. It was served with what appeared to be 1/4 of a pear and some bread. Super bummed this location is so far off from the rest of his places. We just ate at Peasant and Pear for lunch on Monday, and everything was up to his standards. I suspect this location won't make it past a year if it doesn't step up and improve. read more

Finally, a cut above the rest. Great replacement for the Plucked restaurant that used to be here. Food was definitely above the other average restaurants that surround it. Downtown Livermore was in need of a restaurant with a real chef behind it. Catfish Po'boy was not authentic but the hamburger bun did not stop the sandwich from being delicious. This version was still good. The loaded sourdough bread was OK. We were expecting more flavor but the bread was good and the cheese made it fun. Smoked tomato soup was well done, great flavor and texture. Decor was simple and an improvement from Plucked. The bench seats were hard and industrial, some cushioning would be nice. Prices were not too bad for the quality and portion sizes of the food. Huge Mac and Cheese portion which was above average but not great, needed more truffle mornay sauce. Our server was pleasant and not overbearing but just attentive and friendly enough. We were never offered more drinks, which were nice but pricey, great Tennesse Mule with Uncle Nearest and Fever Tree. Our 8 oz water glasses didn't get refilled until we ordered dessert. Other tables had full bottles of water, ours never showed up. Our server never checked back that our food was good to go, but the food was all delicious luckily. Our only food issue was the desserts... The Bourbon Bread Pudding was so boozy we could not finish it. It tasted like it had hand sanitizer in it. It seemed like the alcohol was not cooked off first and just poured over top. It was also very spongy and not quite sweet enough. We had much higher expectations after the other food we enjoyed. The flourless chocolate cake was better but it was really more like a chocolate ganache tart. It was very rich and flavor was good. Portion was very small. We received a 1 inch wedge slice. However, it was so rich we didn't need more. Maldon salt was a good touch. They should add Maldon salt to the bread pudding too. Overall, we look forward to coming back. No major issues and there are some other menu items we want to try. P.S.- Too bad the City of Livermore hasn't done anything about all the losers that cruise up and down First St. with loud and annoying exhausts. We would like to eat on the patio, but we would have to deal with all the unnecessary revving, pollution, and noise. Not the restaurant's fault but the owners should get together and petition the City to bring that childishness to a stop. read more

We had the chicken sandwich and the short braised ribs and we left very disappointed. The chicken in the sandwich had a grey tint and a very weird consistency I told him not to eat it but for the price my husband was going to eat it all..... he is now fighting some demons in the bathroom. My short braised ribs were very dry and overcooked, I did love the carrots and the potatoes but was expecting way more the price. Had some high hopes for this place. First visit my Chicken sandwich was undercooked and served on bread that wasn't very fresh. Today's visit was Fondue that was cold and served with one sliced pear and some bread. We have had this fondue at the Danville location and it was great. 2 drinks (cocktail and a wine) and 2 appetizers today for $72 not including gratuity.
