I had a terrible experience here. I came with my friend and the service was terrible. My friend orders her food, when she's done it's obviously my turn. The cashier and bartender just stand there talking like I did not exist. They were talking about personal things, nothing that was business crucial, my friend literally had to say, "she's ready to order". The cashier still kept talking like she didn't care. I will never go back here. The crawfish was actually decent, small, but decent.
Stopped by The Boot because I was craving crawfish and it was a solid way to kick things off. I've been here before in past years, but this was my first time coming back for the start of crawfish season. It's still early so the crawfish were on the smaller side, which I expected, but the flavor was definitely there. I got 2 lbs of crawfish and the seasoning did not disappoint at all. Spicy, well coated, and full of flavor. I also got a side of red beans and rice, which was honestly a standout. Super flavorful, comforting, and one of my favorite parts of the meal. The fried pickles were another hit, perfectly crispy and a great appetizer. The atmosphere was chill and casual, perfect for grabbing a solo meal and just enjoying good seafood. Service was solid and food came out in a reasonable time. Overall, even with the crawfish being a little small (which is expected this early), the seasoning and sides made up for it. I'll definitely be back as the season goes on and the crawfish get bigger. The Boot is always a reliable spot when I'm craving good crawfish with bold flavor.
These outdoor bar is very chill and it is located in one of the most popular streets in Houston at the Heights, 20th St., with a large parking place, more than likely you'll find where to park and they don't charge for it. When you go inside, you get in line and you order your food. They're famous for their crawfish, I personally don't like crawfish, but my friend ordered some and she seemed to enjoy it, I order a Poboy with shrimp and I must say that they took over 30 minutes to bring my order, if you order crawfish you'll get it soon but anything else takes a long time, I truly wasn't impressed with the food and the services below average, I don't think I will ever come back, but if you like outdoor energy and crawfish, this might be the spot for you.
The Boot during crawfish season is the place to be! It's not my favorite crawfish spot but it is in my Top 5 in Houston for sure! The Boot has great seafood regardless of crawfish season or not. It gives small town/neighborhood bar vibes but again my friend group loves that. The service is always quick and friendly! They do only have one bathroom stall for females but understandably so it's a small place. They have their own parking lot for The Boot as well.
My friend tells me that this is the best place in town for crawfish season! We had my little one with us but she said it was kid friendly so we decided to go check them out! You walk in and there's a bar area to order food and drinks! They give you a number and you head back to find a place to sit. Very limited indoor seating, some seating under the covered area and a bunch of tables outside! Lots of TVs out back to catch some games! Drinks were good, service is quick and there were a ton of kids there! They have porta potties and handwashing stations outside in case you don't want to make your way inside. The crawfish special was $45/5 lbs! We added some corn, potatoes and sausage! The crawfish wasn't huge but they were tasty! The flavors of the boil seeped into the crawfish themselves, not just the dry spice on top! There's a kick to these bad boys but not overly spicy unless you eat that corn! I'm a wimp when it comes to spices! I did love the crawfish here and wanted more after we killed the batch! Great place to hang and enjoy a beer or some food! They even have a kids menu with kids po boys! The Cajun fries were extra crispy and seasoned well! They have fried fish baskets and other food options as well! Parking can be a pain cause they were pretty busy on a Saturday afternoon at 3pm!
I got a pound of crawfish with one corn and two potatoes. The crawfish to me was definitely a 8.5 out of 10. It was the best crawfish I've had so far in Houston. It had a lot of flavor and wasn't watery. I also appreciate the size of the crawfish. The service was great. The only thing I have to say about that. Is they stop you if you have a water bottle in your hands, even if you're not dining in which I didn't understand. The ambience is very regular. They have an outdoor patio that looks pretty decent. Has a TV for games. I would definitely come back here to eat. They seem like a pretty popular place during lunch hour.
Love the atmosphere. Great outdoor vibe. Crawfish was on point. Full of flavor snd good size. You walk up and order and food was out quickly.
The food was on point. My cousin and I were looking for a seafood boil--while this wasn't the boil experience where you choose sauce and spice level, it was still very good! We will be back. A deterrent, unfortunately, is that while it is not listed as "kid friendly", (must be regulars) brought kids. I don't mind kids being around but when their parents don't keep after them and make sure they are entertained. Even going as far as setting them up at a picnic table FAR AWAY from where the parents are enjoying their outing--that's a problem. Bored kids kicking up dirt which flies into my purchased food. Same goes for these folks' absentee parenting, giving them items -- which entertain them. Me waving away soap bubbles from bubble wands landing onto my table full of food--not a way to bring in new patrons. Also the corn situation is very real! I don't mind frozen corn cobs but the ones that came with my crawfish looked beat to hell. Tasted one piece and didn't care to finish or try the other. Super weird that was noted long before now and is still an issue.s. Maybe if you are a sucker for the extras. Won't do that again.
Recently visited The Boot again! Line was crazy long, but they were pretty quick considering the amount of people. Crawfish were decent sized but a lot of smaller ones this time compared to last year. Ordered Shrimp this time and was pleasantly surprised! Ambiance was good, but lots of areas not shaded to sit on a HOT, very sunny afternoon. Best place in Houston for crawfish, but maybe that's just me!
When I first arrived, my mind was set on enjoying some crawfish. Sadly, they had run out of them. I decided to try a few other different options and was not impressed. My biggest critique is that everything lacked flavor. EVERYTHING!!! I was highly disappointed. I hear the crawfish is pretty decent, so I still plan to give that a try, but I will not be returning to try anything else. The service was quick and everyone nice. They had a huge outdoor area that offered tons of seating options. There was even a large screen outside to catch the game, which was a nice touch. There's a small parking area in front of the establishment that's free to park, but most other parking in the area is paid parking. Keep that in mind when planning your trip here. All in all, my experience was okay. When I try the crawfish I'll update my review, but as of now, I won't be adding this place to my frequently visited spots to eat.
Food-- Crawfish: 7.8/10; the corn was a bit mushy, but the crawfish was perfectly seasoned and cooked-- I just wish it was a bit more juice leftover. Definitely Louisiana style! It took about 30 minutes to get it though. I wouldn't really come here to try anything other than the crawfish though. Jell-O shots were good & def have a kick. Service: 6/10-- could use a bit more of a welcoming spirit..

Ok. Get here early. It gets packed pretty quick. It's a small joint with mostly outdoor seating. Great environment. Kinda like Lafayette and Austin had a baby. Parking is kinda a strange. Tip.. Park on the side of the place. You double park ( back to back ) in their parking lot. Which means you might be asked to move your ride to let someone out. So save yourself the trouble. Staff was very friendly and on point. All orders are at the bar in the front of the house. Seat yourself and first then go order. Kid friendly, Dogs.. I don't think so but call and ask first. Bloody Mary's were really good. Served in plastic cups with minimal garnish. Which is perfect. Who needs a bouquet of crap with a drink? Anyway also lots of beers and other liqueurs. Water and tea are serve yourself. Food. Nice simple cajun menu but I can't speak for everything. So the crawfish were still really small. $7.25 a pound. 2 pound minimum. Potatoes, corn, and sausage are all sold separately. I think their cooked separately also No seasoning what so ever. The bugs also We're lacking in seasoning. They were cooked perfect. Easy to peel. Just lacking some flavor. All in all not bad. I will go back to try other items. Worth a shot. read more

Price: a little pricey for the food selection, quality, and atmosphere. However, great beer prices. Food: The food was enjoyable but not unique and delicious. It was very much sports bar-y food. It's very heavy. Location: Located in the heights which is great. And very easy to spot. Parking: out front parking, doesn't seem busy. Atmosphere: wasn't a huge fan of the atmosphere. Very outdoor area with an indoor bar. It was quaint and cool on the porch but place did not have much style. read more

My friend and I came here during their Happy Hour (until 7pm) on Thursday. We got 75 cents off each of our beers, so that came out to be $4 a beer. Such a steallllllllllll......... Haaaaa. We also ordered their crawfish and OMGOSH, its so delicious. Crawfish was boiled perfectly and seasoned just right. Just like back home in Lafayette. Their house sauce was a little too much mayo for me. I like more ketchup and a little kick of spice to it. Corn, potato, and sausage are extra. Crawfish was $7/lb with a 2 lb minimum. I can't wait to eat their crawfish again. We loved their outdoor seating and relaxed atmosphere. It's definitely not a fancy-schmancy place, but you'll leave with a happy stomach (I came strictly for the crawfish). Parking however is gravel and there is limited parking, so get there before the crowd does. read more

I almost hate to let the secret out......but The Boot has the best crawfish in Houston! Juicy and the perfect flavor. You will not be disappointed. You will find me hear munching on several pounds (and enjoying some cold beer) almost every weekend during crawfish season. Seating is mostly outdoors- but there is some covered seating and plenty of umbrellas to keep to sun off you. There are outdoor TVs as well to catch your favorite sporting event.... Parking can be a little tricky, but you can double park-don't worry they will come find you asking you to move the Blue MDX (or what ever you drive) by walking around and announcing the car that needs to be moved. I haven't tried too many other items as I can't say no to the crawfish but the fried shrimp po-boys are delish...and fries are crispy. When things coo off, I will be sure to try the gumbo and red beans. read more
Sometimes you have to ask yourself if the stress of parking is worth you coming to this place. This is a popular place so you will be competing with very limited parking and will have to get creative as to where to park. I will admit that I almost drove away. But hey I drive a Jeep so you almost have to somewhat be rugged with it and what better way to be rugged than parking on grass in an incline. This place is pretty packed and you will have to stand around to snag a table. It is worth it though as the crawfish turned out to be some of the best I have had in awhile. They are served hot, as in temperature hot so let them cool down for a bit. They were pretty big crawfish with just the right flavors. We also ordered boudin which was a bit bland but still pretty good. Just add some hot sauce and it was delicious. The french fries were also crispy and good! You will definitely not be disappointed by the food here. I really wanted to try the bread pudding but after eating crawfish, boudin, french fries, and beer, I just could not fit it in. This place is also setting for a great time. The layout and vibe adds a backyard feeling and when combined with great weather, you are in for a treat. Grab your friends and make it a day filled with great people, great food, and a great time! read more
My best friend and I are on a crawfish mission to find our favorite spot in Houston. The Boot did not disappoint. So far it's in our top, but we're just getting started. Get here around 11am on Sunday before the masses show up. You'll be more comfortable, less time standing in line to order or pay, and more likely to get the seat you want outside. Almost all seating is outside with exception of a small bar and a couple of tables. Get your 3lbs of crawfish with sausage and corn (per person). If you're new to crawfish, it's salty and you need cold beer to maximize the flavor. You should have some coronas or some micheladas. That's your best tip. The crawfish were larger than I've had recently, which is awesome!!! You get some good claw meat. The tails are big. And the flavor inside the heads were juicy - don't be creeped out by sucking the heads. It's where the flavor goes. The gumbo was roughly 800 degrees hot and too greasy. I wouldn't recommend it. But seriously, if you disregard, make sure you let it sit for awhile. It is crazy hot. After all that, we still managed to leave room to split 1lb or snow crab legs. Make sure you ask for a crab cracker tool. There is no reason to shred your hands. Also noteworthy, the crawfish and the crab were perfectly cooked, which makes all the difference. If you want to kick your clarified butter up a notch, squeeze some lemon in there and give it a swirl. Next stop will be BBs! read more

I want to go back. You order at the bar inside, get a number, pick a table outside (or inside if you want to sit at the bar) and wait anxiously. I luckily went on a beautiful Sunday morning. Even getting there at 12:30 (just 30 mins after they opened), the parking lot out front was nearly filled. Parking on the street seems tricky as there's not a clear area where it would be ok to park, but it seemed like people were just parking anywhere that wasn't blocking a driveway (I also lucked out with a parking spot). That would probably be my only issue. The service was great. No issues at all. My boyfriend loved the Bloody Mary, which I think is a popular drink order there since nearly everyone got one. I am not a fan, but he said that it had more of a spicy cajun seasoning flavor rather than tomato juice. The bartender was also generous with the vodka. There are several TV's there, inside and out, if you wanted to watch the game when you're grabbing something to eat. Will definitely return to try other menu items. Side note: they served my beer can with a koozie. I wasn't sure if it was to keep, so I left it. read more
The Boot took over from the Shady Tavern. It's in the style of a Texas Ice House so it's all open air and has not taps. This is great when they weather is nice out. There are limited food options but everything I had was quite tasty. I liked the crawfish, flavorful and spicy without being mouth-searing. Parking is somewhat limited but they have enough. I will be going back. read more

This place has good crawfish (although it was small in size but we went in January). They do charge you per potato (.50), corn (.75) and sausage($) which is pricy for just potato/corn/sausage thrown in to the pot. It was $6.99 per pound when we went. They have ok selection of Texas beers and liquor. You have to go in and order your food & drinks then find your seating. I recommend finding a seating first if it's on a weekend and then have each member of the party go up and order. Seating gets tough to find on the weekends because they have limited seating and it's first come first serve. You can get better deals at regular bars that do crawfish but this place stands out because it does taste better compared to bar crawfish and it specializes in just seafood. Very nice patio and environment for crawfish during nice weather and crawfish season. read more

Amazing Cajun crawfish boil with great outdoor seating! 3 people devoured 10lbs pretty easily, complete with corn, fries, sausage, potatoes, bloody Mary's and mimosas. The food came out very quickly. I would definitely come back here again in a heartbeat. Wish we had this in San Francisco! read more
Fantastic mainly outdoor spot for good weather days, beers and crawfish season. The Boot reminds me a lot of West Alabama Icehouse, but with cajun food served in house, rather than Icehouse's rotating food trucks. Customer demographic was mixed, there were parents with kids playing in the gravel, college students, early twenties young professionals, and then a smattering of up the decade charts. Whole vibe was a calm one. They play audible music but it wasn't deafening, and you could easily focus on the conversation at your table without distractions. (This was on a Wednesday though, so no idea about weekends) Bar offers lots of good Louisiana brewed bottles and cans as well as the regular domestic mainstays. There's a fairly good selection of spirits as well, and I hear their bloody mary is worth checking out. They have a week night happy hour of $3 all beers $4 cocktails and $5 wine 5pm-8PM which is hard to beat in the area. Food, as mentioned before, is cajun Louisiana fare. Etouffe, gumbo, boudin, fried gator, boiled shrimp, boiled crabs, seasonal crawfish, etc. We ordered a good portion of the menu and shared bites and I can safely say they know what they're doing. Etouffe was very good, if you're a fan of the creamier thicker flour based kind. Fried gator was perfectly breaded, moist and had a great dipping sauce. French fries, as boring as that is, were good, being the thinner cut kind and came with a healthy seasoning and salting. Crawfish, which was our main attraction, were good. The size was a solid medium and the seasoning, though not spicy enough for my atomic preferences, was done well. Per pound was $6.50 I think, which is on par or better than most, though that of course changes with seasonal pricing. I heard multiple people around us commenting how this is their favorite crawfish spot in Houston, so I'm sure you won't complain about them. Service, though order at the bar setup, was great. The owner, or maybe manager, spent almost the entire time we were there walking from table to table checking on how the food was, jumping on needs and thanking people for coming out. Food came out quickly after being ordered and they bring it to your table after spotting your number. All in all good food that accompanies an Abita Amber perfectly on a beautiful night under the hung lights and stars. We'll definitely be back weather permitting. read more
This place is a real gem & if I lived in Houston would definitely be spending many Sunday afternoons here!! You order from the bartender & then take your number outside to a cute patio where you find a table & then go get water & whatever sauces you want from a side table under the awning in the shade. Tables all have rolls of paper towel on it so you can wipe your hands & face as necessary since the food has fairly spicy seasoning on it but it's perfect!! We ordered fried shrimp, boiled snow crab, & crawfish. The crawfish are seriously the best I've ever had in my life!!! They were so tender & flavorful!! The crab was sweet & delicious & the shrimp were battered & fried to perfection. The Bloody Mary was also superb & we sucked down quite a few on the way to the airport ;) great little spot!!! read more

What? A Cajun place up in the Heights you say???? Hmmm, I shall give this place 4.25 stars. Located just a hop, skip and a jump down the street from Cedar Creek, I stumbled upon this hidden gem when I was on a mission, a crawfish mission to be exact. It was a bright and beautiful sunny day so when I saw it had a patio, I was sold! No frills place, meaning...its just a small building selling booze/ beer with a good sized fenced in patio off to the right. First rule, order at the bar THEN go pick a sit. Unfortunately the "picking a seat" part can be a little tricky especially when it's nice out because this place fills up exponentially quick. The menu offers a good array of cajun dishes. My personal faves: the fried oysters with choice of side (go with the ground mustard potato salad) or with the staple, crawdaddies!! Yah, it will run you about $16 but hey, oysters are pricey So, I've been here twice and both have been 2 different experiences. The first, was on a Wednesday afternoon around 3ish so we basically had the whole place to ourselves with exception of like 2 tables (that changed the longer we stayed) So we started off with the fired oyster dinner and potato salad (YUM) and 5 pounds of crawfish. The batter on the oysters was so crisp and light, it really let you appreciate the full flavor of the oysters. The weird part was they served it with some weird "looked like liquid tartar sauce but tasted like straight mayonnaise sauce" so ewww. As for the Crawfish.......so friggin DELICIOUS!!! Only $6.50/pd and worth every penny...and I'm a tough crowd. So as I was saying, the crawfish came out large and HOT and we were enjoying ourselves............until we decided to order another 3 lbs. These came out luke warm, zero spice or seasoning and just no flavor: these crawfish made me sad =( So what was the difference?? Maybe since there was no crowd when we first got there, the crawfish had longer to cook/ marinate in all the spicy goodness opposed to the second batch when this place was party central and they were serving tray after tray after tray of the mudbugs. I dunno, just my conclusion. The second experience..........Good Friday afternoon around 4pm....place is CRAZY packed!!! I figured most people would still be at work but boy was I wrong. The bartender claimed the crowd started at 11a. It was Soooo packed, we had to sit at the bar for about 45 mins so we could stalk out a table to sit at. As expected, the oysters were still on point, if not better, and they actually properly made the tartar sauce this time too (however the red beans and rice where nothing special) BUT the crawfish AGAIN came up meh. Really small, not much flavor but again so we just ended up finishing our measly disappointing 5 lbs and moved on to the next crawfish stop. Conclusion: cute place to meet up with your crew to slam back some cold beers, play some corn-hole and grub out on some yum yum cajun food. I approve of this place and glad we found it. It can get hectic busy (buts thats a good problem to have) and hence why I suggest adding about 5-10 more picnic tables out there. With the proper organization, I believe they could make it work. #nomastablestalking read more

This is a great lunch spot with a chill atmosphere. The bartender is super sweet and polite. The service is pretty quick! We ordered crawfish and potatoes, THEY WERE SO FLAVORFUL! The parking is a bit small but that's pretty much the only flaw. The crawfish were a good size and at $7.99/lb not a bad value, 2 lbs minimum when you order. read more

Gator bites!!! Worth the $8.75. Great atmosphere, and a good spot for the kiddos too. Kid friendly during the day. 3 of us split a bucket of beer and got crawfish, boudin and gator bites. The mudbugs were a little small but the boudin and gator bites were fab. It also helped that the weather was PERFECT. If you get a good day with gorgeous weather, make your way to The Boot. Will it be safe for an Alabama fan to come here on Nov 4th? If it helps, my LSU fan and almuna wife will be with me. :-)
Do they serve NA (non-alcoholic) beer? If not can I bring my own?
