I typically enjoy my visits to this establishment. Every time my husband and I visit Houston, we usually sit at the bar. Our usual order consists of crawfish étouffée, fried pickles, and smoked beans. However, during this particular visit, we sat at a table because we were a party of four. We had the opportunity to try their crawfish for the first time. Unfortunately, we found the experience to be rather unpleasant. We felt that the preparation process was excessively spicy and excessively salty. The ambiance of the restaurant is excellent. Interestingly, an automatic 18% tip was added to our bill, despite the fact that we were only four individuals and made the order ourselves, as well as purchasing drinks at the register. This practice raises questions about the concept of tipping in this new era. It is reasonable to assume that the person who brought our food to the table, who was the one providing a real service , should be the one receiving the majority portion of the tip. read more

Went at lunch with coworkers. The health inspector's vehicle was there. Good? Bad? I don't know but I can tell you the food I had was awful! I couldn't even eat the gumbo it was so nasty and tasteless, like dirty water. Absolutely no flavor. The rice and beans were terrible, too. Just gross. I expected something like Treebeards. I had a terrible experience here. I came with my friend and the service was terrible. My friend orders her food, when she's done it's obviously my turn. The cashier and bartender just stand there talking like I did not exist. They were talking about personal things, nothing that was business crucial, my friend literally had to say, "she's ready to order". The cashier still kept talking like she didn't care. Stopped by The Boot because I was craving crawfish and it was a solid way to kick things off. I've been here before in past years, but this was my first time coming back for the start of crawfish season. It's still early so the crawfish were on the smaller side, which I expected, but the flavor was definitely there. I got 2 lbs of crawfish and the seasoning did not disappoint at all. Spicy, well coated, and full of flavor. I also got a side of red beans and rice, which was honestly a standout. Super flavorful, comforting, and one of my favorite parts of the meal. The fried pickles were another hit, perfectly crispy and a great appetizer. The atmosphere was chill and casual, perfect for grabbing a solo meal and just enjoying good seafood. These outdoor bar is very chill and it is located in one of the most popular streets in Houston at the Heights, 20th St., with a large parking place, more than likely you'll find where to park and they don't charge for it. When you go inside, you get in line and you order your food. They're famous for their crawfish, I personally don't like crawfish, but my friend ordered some and she seemed to enjoy it, I order a Poboy with shrimp and I must say that they took over 30 minutes to bring my order, if you order crawfish you'll get it soon but anything else takes a long time, I truly wasn't impressed with the food and the services below average, I don't think I will ever come back, but if you like outdoor energy and crawfish, this might be the spot for you. read more

My friend tells me that this is the best place in town for crawfish season! We had my little one with us but she said it was kid friendly so we decided to go check them out! You walk in and there's a bar area to order food and drinks! They give you a number and you head back to find a place to sit. Very limited indoor seating, some seating under the covered area and a bunch of tables outside! Lots of TVs out back to catch some games! Drinks were good, service is quick and there were a ton of kids there! They have porta potties and handwashing stations outside in case you don't want to make your way inside. The crawfish special was $45/5 lbs! We added some corn, potatoes and sausage! The crawfish wasn't huge but they were tasty! The flavors of the boil seeped into the crawfish themselves, not just the dry spice on top! There's a kick to these bad boys but not overly spicy unless you eat that corn! I got a pound of crawfish with one corn and two potatoes. The crawfish to me was definitely a 8.5 out of 10. It was the best crawfish I've had so far in Houston. It had a lot of flavor and wasn't watery. I also appreciate the size of the crawfish. The service was great. The only thing I have to say about that. Is they stop you if you have a water bottle in your hands, even if you're not dining in which I didn't understand. The ambience is very regular. They have an outdoor patio that looks pretty decent. The food was on point. My cousin and I were looking for a seafood boil--while this wasn't the boil experience where you choose sauce and spice level, it was still very good! We will be back. A deterrent, unfortunately, is that while it is not listed as "kid friendly", (must be regulars) brought kids. I don't mind kids being around but when their parents don't keep after them and make sure they are entertained. Even going as far as setting them up at a picnic table FAR AWAY from where the parents are enjoying their outing--that's a problem. Bored kids kicking up dirt which flies into my purchased food. Same goes for these folks' absentee parenting, giving them items -- which entertain them. Me waving away soap bubbles from bubble wands landing onto my table full of food--not a way to bring in new patrons. Also the corn situation is very real! When I first arrived, my mind was set on enjoying some crawfish. Sadly, they had run out of them. I decided to try a few other different options and was not impressed. My biggest critique is that everything lacked flavor. EVERYTHING!!! I was highly disappointed. I hear the crawfish is pretty decent, so I still plan to give that a try, but I will not be returning to try anything else. The service was quick and everyone nice. They had a huge outdoor area that offered tons of seating options. There was even a large screen outside to catch the game, which was a nice touch. They charge extra for sausage and corn which we paid. We ask for replacement or refund and the rude (I think an owner) refused to make it right for us or the people next to us. He said no refunds and no exchanges and was very dismissive!! Ridiculous....too many other great spots around to deal with that attitude and severe lack of service! They have a good regular menu of cajun bar staples for people who don't care about crawfish. Order at the bar and they bring it to your table. Do not order the boiled shrimp as they are almost impossible to peel. Food portions have been reduced and we ordered the gator bites and it was about half of what they use to give you. Be warned that the line for food and drinks can be very long. Sometimes 30+ min so don't leave your bar tab open if you don't want to wait just to close it out. After waiting in line the tablet will ask for a 20% tip even if you are doing most of the work. There is a custom and no tip option though and everyone should just tip what they want instead of tipping by percentage. read more

Came here during happy hour. Crawfish was $5.99 a pound. So flavorful with a little kick. How I like them. Decent size & fresh! Only downside was I ate outside so I had to fight the flies over my food. I didn't like that. I paired it with a Jameson ginger beer. Next time a beer will do just fine. 4 stars cause customer service wasn't really that great. I just flew in town from Cali. Simply put, this bar has a really good po boy on the menu. In particular, I'm talking about the grilled shrimp po boy that I had last weekend while visiting. I had it a couple of years ago too and it was excellent and I meant to come back sooner.They use Ledenheimer bread from The Big Easy so that right there assures you of a delectable meal. My po boy had plenty of medium sized grilled shrimp and it was dressed, of course. It comes with a side which I decided to try the potato salad. The food came out in about 10 minutes and I enjoyed every bite of the sandwich. The potato salad serving size was generous but I didn't realize when I ordered it that it is made with spicy mustard. Yes it had some kick to it. More than I like. Actually, I would have liked it much more had it been mayo based or even just regular mustard. It had a lot of content. This is an indoor/outdoor bar that has a food truck hidden in the back that makes the grub. Sandwich consisted of a single small piece of catfish which tasted ok but not seasoned.
