Enjoyed my diner here. It's an intimate place with memorabilia from its long tenure as a restaurant, there were framed old menus and pictures of the original owner and his family. Our waitress/bartender/hostess was actually his daughter running the show. I ordered a sidecar cocktail it was delicious and refreshing, slightly on the strong side but there's nothing wrong with that. We ordered seafood gumbo and a cup of the soup of the day was a lobster bisque. The gumbo was delicious with bits of shrimp through out the soup, the rice was served on the side and the roux was dark and delicious. The lobster bisque was also good, creamy and rich. We ordered the seafood platter to share. It was more than enough food. It cane with shrimp cocktail, crab cocktail, fried oysters, shrimp, stuffed shrimp with cream cheese and jalapeño, and onion rings. The crab cocktail was just jumbo lump crab in the cup, good but not quite what I expected. Everything else was up to par of what I expected. Although the menu does not state the prices of each menu item, our dinner was in a reasonable range, comparable to other seafood/steakhouses. I may return one day.

I saw this place while driving on Shepherd Dr. One day and I really enjoy non chain restaurants so I looked it up the menu and decided to give it a try. We went on a Saturday and it wasn't very busy, most likely because it was game 6 for the Astros in the World Series. We walked in and we were greeted right away by one of the owners who was very nice. We started with some drinks (they do have a full bar) and also some cups of gumbo as a starter. The gumbo was really great! I found a few bones in mine but it was still good. They also had a lobster bisque for the day that was pretty tasty as well. For our meal, we decided to share the seafood platter and it did not disappoint. It came with fried shrimp, fried oysters, jalapeño fried shrimp, shrimp cocktail, crabmeat cocktail, and onion rings. The cocktail sauce and tartar sauce were nice as well. I would for sure eat here again. It is a bit pricey, and the parking isn't very spacious but you can't beat homemade food like this. Please give this place a try.

This cute, quaint, tiny restaurant is very much a home style seafood place. It's not fancy smanshee at all even though its romantic in its own right. The service was very lackluster but fun in a sarcastic kind of way. Not bubbly or excited to help, but there...everyone has a bad day so I'm not saying bad service just not happy friendly. Moving on.... The crab was served in huge chunks which is awesome & I couldn't wait to dig in. Unfortunately, the crab tasted like it had been sitting around for a week, it was not fresh at all. I was afraid but didn't want to make a fuss with the party I was with, so I ate what I could. The fish was flaky but not awesome seasoning, a lot of lemon had to be added to add some taste to it. The salad was super fresh & the thousand island dressing was superb. I want to say I'll try this place one more time because if the crab had been fresh this dish would have been out of sight fabulous! Can't win them all...maybe ask what they have FRESH before you order, just saying.

This little gem sits on Shepherd and seats maybe 30 People but the food is lustrous and absolutely amazing- we had the lump crab cocktail- caprese salad, rack of lamb, and rainbow trout! It was really really good! Loved the flavors and the vibe and just all around quirkiness of the place' Chris was our server and bartender working her butt off the place was full- please keep this place alive and eat here y'all know I don't post shot reviews so I'm telling ya try it out I think you'll love it as much as we did!

Daughter of Mr. Segaris self established amazingly accomplished restaurant is now operated by a lazy daughter without regard for customer service or quality of food. Disappointed because I've heard such great remarks - obviously from an older generation of most likely early on attendees. Nepotism is real, and blood is thicker than water- and that has proven in this is the case. The restaurant desperately needs trained wait staff and proper amount of staff to accommodate their guests. Shame a classic joint went so downhill. My sorrow goes out to the founder, and recommend better management be put in place to stay in business. Waitress (daughter: Angela) completely rude and unintelligible regarding menu items, inattentive of guests, and we never had our water refilled. Once. Super sad about this! It was our anniversary! I was really looking forward to Segaris, but will never return. Hope this helps! Sincerely, EM

I rarely ever feel so out of place but last night I definitely did. I was quite excited to try this spot close to home but left disappointed. Good thing Sam isnt around to see this! Or Sam must be spinning in his grave.... 1 star strictly for ambiance. Cute place, here shit service. The hostess/server was snarky, rude, and didn't seem suited for a customer facing role. Cancelled our food order after drinks and apps due to not feeling wanted or appreciated. Overpriced as well-2 drinks and crabmeat cocktail will cost you $60. Salt grass steakhouse a block away is welcoming and treats people respectfully and is well priced.

It also felt like a third space of sorts, because I was hanging out with a well connected friend, and everyone who came in was a who's who of the Houston restaurant/nightlife scene, and gathered for what turned out to be an unplanned hang out. They were hosting a vinyl swap night, so folks were coming in to peruse the many boxes of vinyls, and a DJ spun classic r&b tunes. I hear that on some nights they make space for a dance floor so people can show off their best two step in the space. The drinks were great and well priced but the wine selection is what got me. I was told they were inspired by Japan's many vinyl listening bars-- having been to many across Japan as well as many NYC imitators, this place actually impressively comes close. Regarding the food, the Frisée Salad was pretty good, well dressed and flavorful. The chicken sandwich was okay. The batter was crispy and flaky but it had no flavor. What made it a lot better was the coleslaw that brought a great deal of tang and moisture. The steak was not quite for me. It came on a bed of sauce that was flavorful with fresh veggies but it did not go well with the steak. Perhaps chicken would've suited better. The steak itself was dry and quite chewy. For dessert we had the carrot cake tres leches which was decent. The carrot cake flavor was there but the moisture from the cake was not fully spread in the cake. Overall nothing here was bad but with the plethora of restaurants in the Houston area I can't justify recommending or returning.

We ended up using the valet service as I couldn't find the designated parking lot, and we were already running a bit late. Upon entering, I was surprised by how hot it was. Even the poor hostesses were fanning themselves. It was an exceptionally hot and humid evening, and I found the dining room to be very warm throughout the meal despite us being no where near the front doors. The dining room was packed and very noisy. This is something to make note of if you prefer a more intimate settings. Conversations required almost shouting to be heard. Annoying. Our server gave us the spiel since it was our first time. I was interested in the HRW menu while my dining partner ordered from the regular dinner menu. I was quite impressed with the selection. The focus on premium meat and seafood was very apparent, and the inclusion of items like house made bacon and exquisite A5 wagyu should excite any meat lover. As for rating the food, the following was the result: Steak House salad - 4/5 a bit of a nineties flair with the balsamic drizzle. This was a hearty simple salad with nice presentation. Calamari with peppers - 4/5 I've never had calamari this soft before. The meat is obviously tenderized. The coating is not really crispy either despite appearing as such. The fried fresh jalapeño and Fresno chiles were an interesting touch. Bread service - 4/5 very tasty and again very soft. It was a lot like a giant pull apart fancy dinner roll. The rosemary salt was a good option. 8 oz filet - 3/5 it gets interesting here. I ordered it medium rare plus and was informed they don't do plus temperature cooks. Weird. For a nice steakhouse, I was surprised this wasn't an option. I receive my steak, which has a lovely peppery crust. The inside though is a very deep cool red, as in rare. Granted, I could be generous and label this as rare plus, but it certainly wasn't medium rare. The server insisted this is their standard for medium rare. There is some wiggle room for interpretation, but I've eaten and cooked enough steaks in my life to know the difference. I assume dining at prime time on the busiest day of the week, the kitchen may be rushed a bit, and a thick steak like this isn't rested properly. They refired the steak for me, but it was still deep cool red in the middle, but now with more well done cooked edges. A second attempt was made, and at this point the steak was compromised with a well done past edge and slightly less deep red center. This was barely acceptable as medium rare in the center. The heat is obviously not penetrating to the center. Even the myoglobin in the steak juices was streaked with dark red ribbons. I ate the steak anyway, and it was tender still despite being in a less than ideal state. Double cut Colorado lamb chop with lamb bacon- 4/5 that lamb bacon is very tasty! The lamb chop itself was cooked nicely. Very good, but in the top three? Probably not. Garlic whipped potatoes- 3/5 they were kind of on the goopy and oily side, not really fluffy. The garlic notes were nice and prominent. Cheesecake - 4/5 texture and flavor wise the cheese part was fantastic and not overly sweet. What was missing was an incredible solid graham cracker crust! Theirs was very thin. The server forgot my iced tea and chalked it up to the kitchen being temporarily out. A busser I had asked presented it after I had inquired about it after some time (it was so warm inside that the iced tea was needed!). Girl, it's okay to fess up and said you forgot. She did leave it off the bill though. There was a long lull between appetizers and the mains. Our waitress offered us a complimentary dessert, and I chose chocolate cake to go. We received a small square of cake instead of a full slice. Lol. The restaurant manager did come by and made his rounds throughout the dining room which I thought was a nice touch. I asked him what his favorite main course was, and he said the surprise sleeper was the salmon! A friend had also mentioned the same! When we received the bill, there was a 3% "restaurant operations fee" tacked on. What the? The prices here are already inflated, so this is just insulting to injury. As we were waiting for the valet, I noticed an additional almost 4% charge for using a credit card. Come on! I get that margins are thin at restaurants, but I'm starting to feel a bit nickel and dimed at this point. Overall, I left with a lot of mixed feelings. The food was overall good, but I expected a higher level of food and service. Granted, we were dining during prime time so I am a bit more forgiving, but for the price we paid, the overall expectation of the experience was not quite met. I would tentatively return for the more uniqueness menu items.

Service was amazing-- we loved our waiter who was a combination of polite, funny, and knowledgeable, and everyone gave us a smile. All the dishes were beautifully presented and flavorful but definitely on the heavier side. - Beet salad (5/5)-- wow, never had a beet salad like this one before! So much flavor with a tanginess from vinegar sweetened by the blueberries and beets. The beets didn't taste very earthy (aka like dirt) compared to most beet salad. This was really well executed :) - Caesar salad (3.5/5)-- Credence's spin on Caesar, which according to my Caesar salad pro diner, didn't really taste like Caesar salad. Also very tangy and tart but the pro still enjoyed it as a salad dish. - Roasted cabbage (4/5)-- big fan of the way they roasted this, perfect tenderness without being cabbage mush! Definitely a heavy dish, especially for a vegetable option, as it was swimming in a butter cream sauce that started to congeal as it cooled off. Would choose this more as an indulgent appetizer rather than a healthy veggie option. I wonder if one could ask for the sauce on the side... - Tuna tostada (3.5/5)-- if you like strong flavors, this one packs a punch. The gochujang aioli beneath the tuna is really concentrated, making it difficult to taste the actual tuna. There's a bit of heat but thankfully I wouldn't say it was spicy. Fun to try. The tostada itself was very dense and almost a bit bread-y versus a crispy chip texture. - Crab fried rice (4/5)-- comes with lobster foam that is mixed table side and a generous amount of crabmeat lumps. The rice actually had a nice texture without being too... grainy / individualized, but it was too salty for me. - Akaushi Wagyu beef (4.5/5)-- loved the texture which was tender but with some chew (was expecting more of a melt-in-the-mouth texture though) and the veggies that it came with. It was heavily salted, too much so for me. Would've been perfect with less salt since there's already a chimichurri sauce with it. - Peanut butter tart (4.5/5)-- peanut butter lovers rejoice! The chocolate filling was rich, thick, and sweet which was complemented nicely with the whipped cream (not sweet at all). The peanut flavor really shined. The crust didn't have much of a taste by itself and was sandy in texture, not sure if on purpose or over-baked and dried out. Either way, the tart looked impressive when it arrived and was delectable-- my favorite bite of the night! Overall a nice experience! Although there was a mess up and the rest of our two salads and crab rice wasn't packed with our other food to take home; I was pretty sad about that since it was quite a bit of food (and $$). I might return for that peanut butter tart, but everything else was too heavy and too salty for me. I'm personally not a huge butter fan, but if you are, definitely make a reservation for a special occasion or date!
