We had previously been to the Ponte Vedra Boathouse restaurant several times and always had a great experience so we figured we would try this location today. It was a bad decision. We arrived 15 minutes early for a 1 o'clock reservation. We were told we would have to wait for a table closer to our reservation. Not thrilled but no big deal. We were seated at 1. Mikayla, our server, then took our orders. It then took one hour to get our food. When it finally came out, the order was wrong. One member of our party had ordered lobster bisque as well as mussels. However, there were no mussels. When we told her, she said the kitchen failed to see them on the slip. She said they would rush them through. A half hour later, still no mussels. At that point, we canceled the mussels and had them removed from the check. Needless to say, service was bad. At the same time, three or four hostesses, as well as the manager, spent most of their time standing at the hostess stand. In the future, we will probably not return to this location. read more

We are visiting from up north and stopped in. Let me tell you that we had a wonderful experience. Makayla our waitress was very informative and personable and funny. That's a huge plus for us. Great sushi selection with king salmon, fatty tuna, fatty yellowtail on a MONDAY. The margaritas here made by Julianna are a must have. Scott the operations manager stopped by and asked how everything was and was very personable, heck, everyone here was. We are here for a week and love trying new restaurants and we will be back to sample more of their menu. read more

Great local restaurant. Been to it several times. Everything on the menu is decent but DO NOT try the oysters. I tried it twice and I thought it was only the one time but it was the same the second time. I think it's their thing. They're dirty, shelly (I choked on a shell), and they are not fresh. They were oily and had white ooze coming out from them. Gross! However, if you're able to grab a seat at the bar, the bartenders are great. They also have happy hour from 4-7pm. Had another wonderful visit to the Boathouse. The food as always was awesome! I had the scallops and pesto, which was absolutely delicious. Fried shrimp (10) was not good over battered and rubbery came with a side of coleslaw which was served in a condiment cup with about two bites in it. Did not care for most the options on the sides. Big issue was two lbs of crab legs we ordered were about 1 lb. We order crab legs often and we know what two lbs should be. One person ordered a mix drink twice and both tasted completely different. This restaurant had great food, awesome friendly service and a beautiful view. We went on a Monday which is when they serve 2 sets of crab legs for $12 with the purchase of an appetizer, which is such a steal. We started off by sharing some of Jason's Brussels and the shrimp pot stickers, they were both very much amazing. Brussels were some of the best I've had at a restaurant, my only complaint is that there was a lot of sausage and bacon in the dish and I wish they scaled back a bit on it. We ended up leaving some of the meat behind because there was just so much. Crab legs were yummy, a little on the salty side from the water they cooked them in but the butter cut some of the salt so they were still good. The shrimp and grits were phenomenal, shrimp was cooked to perfection and the flavor combo was spectacular. We will definitely be coming back for more of them! Service was good, served did his best as he was serving the whole room with no help from other staff aimlessly walking around, took a hot minute to get our drinks. This place was amazing, my whole family went and we all had good things to say. The food was so good and we had a 3 course meal (appetizers, entree, dessert) and it was so delicious, my daughter got the oysters for only $3.60. They have specials everyday which is nice. The place is so pretty because it's on the water and we sat outside so it was even better, we sat on the deck and they had a cat out there name "oyster" he's very cute and it's great entertainment for the kids plus they have music playing some days. The last thing I'm going to say is the waiter was so nice, his name was Carson and he was very nice and was always serving us and making sure we had what we needed. Horrible place. The restaurant was out of sushi, steak, crown royale, and captain morgan. It was not a super packed night. I have never been to a restaurant that has run out of so many things. We waited for our food for about an HOUR and when we got the food everyone's dish was freezing cold. I sent mine back. The waiter brought back another one that was warm. Everyone else was so tired of waiting they just decided it was best to eat the cold fish. By the way the stuffed grouper is mediocre at best. Not worth the 40$ price tag. We ate our food and asked for a check as soon as we got a chance because the entire time toddlers are running around the place like it's chucky cheese. Banging on windows, screaming. This is one of, if not the worst restaurant I've ever been to around this place. Highly do not recommend. PS: a decent place would have comp'd at least one of the cold dishes. SUSHI was amazing. The sushi chef is an icon, we came and sat with us (we were the last ones there) and for those that do not know, he opened a "before it's time" French/Japanese 20 years ago. I ate there, it blew my mind what they were doing. His resturant that was all the rage. My Brother In Law, the most picky eater in the world, drove us out there and it was his favorite in the San Fran Area. Too bad it closed. At this resturant, The Boathouse, and our portions on our dinner large. Service was great by a young attentive woman, Lily. The Sushi was top notch and NOT TO MISSED here. So fresh, so well done, so well presented. No pics of the sushi as we downed it slowly and with savor. My buddy in Jacksonville recommended and it is now one of my favorites. Actually made another reservation a couple days later to go back, that is rare for me. GO and get the sushi, even as an appitizer, then you regret you didn't eat sushi for your main course! Went based on reviews and hope for a pretty waterside view. The waterside (lagoon) was dried up and, frankly ugly. The restaurant and deck was shy on ambience. The seafood (tile fish and scallops) had good portions and was prepared (grilled) well.... But it just wasn't the dining experience I was hoping for. It's more seafood shanty than 4star restaurant. I guess if you live in the area and follow this (what seemed to be a) local favorite for their HH (only at the bar) or oyster or shrimp night you'll be thrilled. For me it was just meh. I would not recco for a first time visitor, and maybe the boathouse likes it that way, since they are always booked solid. read more

We went on their AYCE shrimp night and the weather was mild, so we sat on the patio. It was very large and overlooked the water, but it was low tide, so it was more mud, which could have contributed to the quantity of flies...which is beyond their control so my review is not taking that into consideration, but just providing it as information. The food was excellent, however, the service on the AYCE special was very slow. My husband ordered an additional serving of shrimp, the server came out and said that they had some large parties, so the fried shrimp would take a while. If you are advertising AYCE, it shouldn't take 20 minutes to get an order. The coleslaw and the grilled shrimp and fries were very good. read more

More of a 3.5. We came for the Tuesday AYCE shrimp. 6:30 with a reservation worked well but there wasn't really a line or anything and there were available tables both inside and on the deck. There were quite a few large parties but it wasn't crazy busy as one would expect on an AYCE night. I think I know why now - at least from this experience. Your three options are blackened, grilled, and fried. I started with blackened and received two skewers along with my two sides of pimento cheese grits and collards. The 10 shrimp were very good. The grits were well balanced - not overly seasoned but the collards were just ok. I tried some of my wife's grilled shrimp and they were good as well. For my first reorder, I went for the fried and it took quite a while for my five shrimp to arrive. The waiter let us know the big parties were causing a slow down in the kitchen but honestly, I felt it was an intentional stall. I reordered another batch of anything fast but decided I didn't want to wait after more than what I felt was ample time. This was basically a Red Lobster endless shrimp experience but with better food. IYKYK - same tactics. Overall not a bad meal but I wouldn't drive down here for any of the AYCE deals. read more

Beautiful location, poorly managed. I usually give grace to restaurants on holidays, since they don't operate at their best. This Father's Day however was a poor example of how to run a restaurant. We showed up for a 1:00 p.m. lunch reservation and we were seated on time. Makayla took our order, and then food wasn't delivered until 2:00 p.m. Despite it being a holiday, the restaurant was only about half full, so a 1 hour wait is unacceptable. When the food did finally arrive, one item (mussels) was not brought out. Makayla blamed the issue on the kitchen, but during the one hour wait, she never checked in on us once. We did request refreshing drinks (iced tea ) one time, and even that took more than 5 minutes. They have a manager who was a guy walking around, but he never approached our table, and our server never brought him over to our table. Ultimately, we finished what was delivered, paid the bill and left. Overall, this was decent food, beautiful location, and horrendous execution. I don't anticipate that we will ever return, nor do I expect that anybody at this restaurant cares. read more

My best friend picked this place at random because we were in the area. We didn't even check the reviews before we went, which normally I wouldn't do, but everything in St Augustine is usually good. What an amazing delight. I can't say enough good things about The Boathouse. The ambiance is adorable the flooring, the wood beams in the ceilings, the fireplace out back, and the water side views. None of that matches up to their menu. They have an extensive menu for everybody, including me, who doesn't eat meat. I did, however, enjoy the gnocchi with pesto and scallops. My friend had the burger. I didn't take a picture of that because, well, I don't eat meat, and I don't like to look at it either, but that's besides the point. Last but not least, our server was the young and beautiful Mary. She was extremely hospitable, warm, friendly, and knowledgeable about all the items we asked about. I really should mention that if you do order the gnocchi, please ask for a container to go because the portion is humongous. I do not use that word lightly. It was served in a giant bowl, and it was amazing . It's going to be even more amazing tomorrow. Also, they will light the fire pit, if it is not already burning. You just have to ask.
