Pitiful. Very unorganized. Shouldn't take 15m for an iced coffee and have people behind me get orders before me.

Michael Warring - Polenta with black truffle

I've had Michael Warring on my bucket list for over 10 years. When I learned the restaurant is…read moreplanning to close at the end of the year, I knew it was now or never. So my bestie and I booked a Friday reservation about three weeks out -- and I completely understand why reservations can stretch nearly a month. The space is very small and intimate, and every seat feels intentional. One of the most notable aspects of the evening was the open kitchen presentation. We were lucky enough to sit at the counter, which essentially turned dinner into a show. Watching each dish come together -- plated with precision, purpose, and care -- was mesmerizing. Chef Michael worked with such efficiency and order. After completing each dish, he cleaned and reset his station before moving on to the next, maintaining a pristine space throughout service. There was a quiet discipline to it all. Tonight was the Tasting Menu. It's easy to assume tasting portions might leave you wanting more, but that was absolutely not the case. We left completely satisfied. From the menu that evening: * tsar nicoulai caviar, basque cheesecake * tempura beef rib * canelé de bordeaux, tuna * radicchio, chowder, greens * king salmon, leeks, fennel, sea buckthorn custard * brioche, morel mushrooms, rice cracker, mushroom powder * polenta, perigord black truffle, broccoli * pork tenderloin, braised greens, black truffle mousse * Japanese A5 wagyu beef * mandarin sorbet, oranges, sabayon * meyer lemon ice cream, candied pecans * beignet, salted caramel * cheesy crème brûlée, essex manchego cheese Each course emphasized bold, striking flavors. Some dishes leaned heavier on salt than I personally prefer, but overall there was thoughtful balance between sweet, salty, acidic, and umami elements. Standouts for me were the tsar nicoulai caviar basque, the tempura beef rib, the king salmon with sea buckthorn custard (I could easily eat 4-6 of those), the pork tenderloin and Japanese A5 wagyu with braised greens and black truffle mousse, the refreshing mandarin sorbet, and the unexpected but delightful cheesy crème brûlée. Every dish felt intentional and composed with purpose. This isn't an everyday dining spot -- and I don't think it's meant to be. It's an experience. Chef Michael brings his background from places like Auberge du Soleil and Bouchon into this intimate Vallejo space, and it shows. If you have the opportunity to dine here before the doors close, I strongly encourage you to make the reservation. It's one of those meals you'll remember -- not just for the food, but for the artistry behind it.

A really good fine-dining option tucked into a shopping center in Vallejo…read more The initial ambiance isn't the most-inviting and you might wonder if you're in the right place. I do think they might want to upgrade the lighting a bit to something warmer. The small dining area is friendly though and there's good views of the kitchen as the meal is prepared. The meal was filling--always a question at some fine dining places--and the service is efficient. The wine pairings, while not any rare bottles or special vintages, worked really well and elevated the dishes. Some of the dishes were remarkable, like the polenta, a sorbet with carbonated mandarins, and the beignets. Most were quite good. Only one dish didn't quite work--the chicken in the fried chicken was oddly stringy. Super-nice owners who were happy at the end of the night to talk more once the pace of cooking eased up. Great to have a place like this nearby.

Tucked inside Vallejo near their City Hall, this I could say is one of those perfect definitions of a "hidden gem"! We normally have to go to either Berkeley or Napa for this type of food. As soon as we walked in, we were immediately greeted & seated by one of their servers. The lady didn't seem to look so happy at first but was actually nice towards the end. Would've been better though if she did have a smile on her face the moment we walked in. But oh well. A male server made up for it and was very pleasant from start to finish! The plates we had this first trip were all scrumptious! Churro Waffle plus chicken, Chicken and waffle and eggs Benedict of the day. The matcha latte I'm used to is actually sweet. The one I had from this place, Matcha Latte w/ Lavender syrup was not sweet at all! Could've been perfect if I was given a heads up or asked if I wanted to add sweetness to it. The sugars provided for my spouse's coffee were all sugar substitutes (Splenda, sweet N low). Not the kind I'd put in my cup. Would definitely be back for their churro waffle & chicken!

But sitting back and observing, this team runs like a well-oiled machine -- clearing tables quickly and seating new guests with efficiency and purpose. Within minutes of sitting down, we had water on the table, followed by hot coffee. I appreciated that creamers (half & half and flavored), sugar, salt & pepper, ketchup, hot sauce, and syrup were already set at the table. No chasing anyone down for the basics -- they're already one step ahead. The menu carries that classic Bab's Delta Diner - Suisun Waterfront feel, but with the added bonus of Von's Korean Chicken offerings -- think crispy fried chicken, Yangnyum chicken, and even some Korean lunch specials you won't find at the Suisun location. And judging by what was flying out of the kitchen, the chicken and waffles were definitely a crowd favorite this morning. As tempting as that looked, I came for Rod's Special -- corned beef hash with fried rice and poached eggs. And let me tell you... Yes, that's exactly what I wanted. Definitely homemade corned beef, with actual chunks of brisket throughout. Comforting and satisfying. My husband ordered the ribeye steak and eggs. While it came out closer to medium instead of the requested medium rare, it was still well seasoned and delicious. Ancestors were definitely in the kitchen. Now back to the service -- because it deserves its own spotlight. There was never a moment our coffee cups weren't topped off. Dishes were cleared quickly, even down to the little things like empty creamer containers. What stood out most is that the team doesn't just stay in their lane -- they work collectively to make sure the entire dining room runs smoothly. Friendly, attentive, and aligned with that cheery, Snoopy-Charlie Brown vibe the place gives off. Great food, strong team, and a welcoming atmosphere -- definitely a breakfast spot I'd recommend.

Greeted immediately by friendly staff and proceeded the counter to put in the order. Ended up getting the spam loco moco. It was okay. The portion ended up being a little light for what the price was, so the value isn't quite there. My son ended up getting a Mickey pancake (loves pancakes and we just came back from Disney) which he loved. Place is nicely decorated with some nice wall paintings and ample seating. Overall, don't know if I'd go back. If you're looking for a nice brunch I'd probably make the trip to Napa, AC, or across the bridge to Pleasant Hill (The Royale).

The first time I came I ordered the lobster garlic noodles and they were really tasty, lots of lobster and even had leftovers for lunch. My kids both liked their food- one ordered the pizza kids meal and the other the sliders. There was a few mishaps on the first visit, some of the people in our group waited a while to get their food and we ask for condiments twice before we got them, but hey it was busy and we were a large group. On my second visit I order the fish and chips and they were good, fish was crispy and again, the serving was huge! My kids ordered the same thing on our second visit and they had no complaints. For lighter options, the tomato bisque and house salad are always solid choices. For entrées, we've tried quite a bit and have several favorites: the grilled chicken and avocado sandwich, salmon plates, fish tacos, cilantro lime chicken, and especially the whiskey glazed salmon and Mediterranean salmon--those are absolute favorites for me. I also really love the Mediterranean veggie burger. My husband is more of a meat eater and used to love their Beyond Burger, which they've since changed to a veggie version--he says it's not quite as good as before, but still decent. The classic burger is also very good. And the lobster garlic noodles? Amazing. For dessert, the cheesecake brûlée is a must-try. And I can't forget the drinks--they are some of the best! I love the Coco Passion, Midnight Sangria, Sunset Sangria, and the Dragon Fruit Cosmo. Everything is always so flavorful and well-made. Beyond the food, the service has consistently been great every single time we've gone. Overall, this place is a 5-star experience for us--great food, great drinks, and great service every time.
