Good service. Very nice ambiance. Tasty bread served warm. That's where it ends sadly. I almost gave 3 stars because a few of the apps and the salads were ok, but for the $$$$ they charge, really not worth the drive. The food was pretty as you'll see in pictures, but: - the caprese salad had unripened tomatoes (and one slice was mushy), - the oysters Rockefeller and the ricotta stuffed portobello mushroom (single) were just ok (ish) - the blue fin tuna steak was covered in inedible salty sauce. I was going to send back but my husband talked me into scraping the sauce and spinach off, which made the potatoes and the overcooked (I asked for seared/rare) tuna edible - the house angus filet steak was tough and chewy and under-seasoned and baked carrots hard as rock. - even the drinks were just off (except for one where the flavors worked). We love food. Will even travel for food and will spend $ on good food, but this was not worth the visit. read more

Such a great restaurant with an exceptional atmosphere. This place is close to home so we go regularly. The food is out of this world delicious. There's not an overwhelming amount of options so you know they specialize in what they offer. We've had a wide variety of drinks, appetizers, and entrees and have always been beyond satisfied with everything. The staff is always professional and helpful. Can't recommend this place enough! First time, enjoyed a fine meal. The ambience was good, and the largest enjoyment was a real wood fireplace. May seem strange to say but Colorado is now very restrictive on wood burning so to find a restaurant that is grandfathered in is a rare treat. Sat right in front of it per the picture. However... be aware you will leave with everything you're wearing smelling of smoke. Good smell, unless to you it isn't. Reservations definitely a good idea (table 16 is the best for 2 people to enjoy the fireplace). Given this place was built in 1920s not much consideration for noise suppression. So recommend an early dinner reservation because after about 6:30 the place is packed for a Friday night. Wait staff were great.... Attentive without imposing. While we had our primary waitress, seemed everyone was a team player circulating around tables clearing plates, bringing bread, etc. Had the cordon bleu but have to say it was dry and small. Sides were ok. Chocolate torte and Port were very enjoyable. We'll be back because we're also staying at the Bears Inn literally 200 feet away. But new selections next time! Note... they have sea bass on the menu and apparently they can now be farm raised! Did not know that. read more

We were a bit concerned about parking in the wrong place due to 20 RESERVED signs from the bed and breakfast only. There were not clear designated places to park. read more

I hate to give this review of what used to be our favorite restaurant... but tonight was absolutely ridiculous. I understand that the bistro is under new ownership, and unfortunately they changed the things that used to make it great. Based on the overall ambiance of the place, you would expect to find hearty and classic dishes like a good steak with mashed potatoes or a simple but tasty fish dish, along with good and decently fast service. That is what the bistro used to be, and that is why we were loyal patrons. Unfortunately tonight we arrived for our reservation not realizing that everything had completely changed, including our favorite dishes on the menu. We were surprised to find a strange assortment of Asian fusion dishes and disappointed to see that our favorite item on the menu (the ribeye) had been done away with completely and our second favorite (the filet mignon) had been changed to a strange Greek style served with cucumbers and couscous. Imagine that you walked into an Asian-style restaurant and found out they served hamburgers... that's how it was walking into the bistro and finding an Asian fusion menu.... very strange. At that point we almost got up and left, but we were celebrating a birthday and already pretty hungry. We asked the very kind waitress if there was any way to get a filet cooked "the old way" instead of with the weird cucumber thing and she said she would ask the kitchen since apparently that is not an uncommon request and many people seem to have an issue with the new menu. They were able to accommodate, and we ordered.... And waited. And waited. And waited. For an hour and ten minutes. We got there at 5:35 for our reservation at 5:45, and we were basically the only people in the restaurant.... But we didn't get our food until 6:55. The waitress comped us one virgin mojito because "the kitchen was so backed up" - a nice gesture I suppose, but that's like $5 so not really that nice. After dinner, we made the absolute mistake of ordering dessert, which took another 45 minutes to arrive. The tiramisu was gross and super soggy and the crème brûlée was very very good. After that, it took another 30 minutes to get the $160 bill. I don't mind paying that for dinner, but when I do I expect things to be considerably better. The people seated around us were also talking about how they were disappointed by the menu and we saw one couple who hadn't been seated yet read it on their phones and then leave. We got there at 5:35pm on a Monday night and didn't leave until after 8pm. Paid $200 with tip for food that was tasty, but again... not on the menu. We won't be back until the new owners sell it to someone who knows how to run a restaurant. read more

I made reservations to eat here before we even left iowa for our vacation. This was our last meal during our short vacation in Colorado and it was the perfect ending. We had the filet and the Mahi. My wife's filet was out of this world. Onions, seasoning and the quality of the cut were as close to perfect as you can get. The Mahi was lightly seasoned, and the flavor of the fish was not compromised. Beautifully done. We hand the Blondie and the fruit tart for desert. Both were amazing. I think the Blondie was better and more what you would expect from a high end restaurant. Lots of flavors and the perfect amount of sweetness. Service was superb. read more

Everything here is top notch. Wonderful food and service. My group of 5 including 4 guests from San Francisco with very sophisticated palates who were enjoying their first Colorado mountain vacation. They were raving about everything - the bistro dumplings were the softest pillows of gnocchi in a delightfully savory sauce. Best gnocchi I've had since traveling abroad. Caprese salad was big enough to serve 2-3 people. I tried the Thai style Cioppino and was very pleasantly surprised with the delightful lemongrass flavored broth and plump mussels and abundant shrimp and scallops on a bed of cellophane noodles. Not a traditional preparation by any stretch but an excellent interpretation with a nice bit of spice. Shared a tiramisu that was creamy, decadent and sweet. Can't recommend this place enough! read more

We have been loyal weekly customers of the Bistro for 3 years and have really enjoyed our Friday dinners there. While the cost of the drinks and meals have never been an issue, the portions are. We noticed the Marino's to be shorter. The mussel appy was once a large mound has been reduced to a mere covering of the bottom of the plate. We noticed the amount of potatoes and veggies significantly reduced as well. We hope the Bistro finds their way and succeeds but for the price to portion we have decided to stay home and cook. We have noticed this change in several restaurants in the area and while we feel bad for the inflationary obstacles, we still like to feel satisfied. read more

Let me start by saying that the place is super cute and what a view of Mt Evans!!! We had a Matcha dumpling with Japanese broth that had so much flavor and out of the box creation. I had an Elk steak with a blackberry lavender gastrique and brown butter parsnip apple purée. WOW!! Black pepper crusted seared salmon and a roasted tomato Marsala sauce was delicious as well. For dessert we had a chocolate mousse Mille feuilli that was layers of phyllo and butter and chocolate. The cocktails are new age and balanced and fantastic. They serve French press coffee there which is such a great touch and most restaurants do not have the finale of their coffee game like bistro does. Awesome awesome. read more

We went here to have dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary because we were staying in the area. I feel badly giving this little restaurant a 2 star review but I felt I received diner quality food at bistro prices. Dessert was lovely though. Service was a bit scattered although the young lady helping bus the tables was very sweet, helpful and friendly. She recommended a fantastic dessert, a chocolate cake type thing with salted caramel ice cream. It was the best thing we ate. We started with crab cakes. This is our Go-To appetizer. We love trying and comparing them from place to place. At Marshadale we were served the worse crab cakes we have ever had. They were like warm, clearly old and mushy despite looking fried. The mango chutney they were served with didn't compliment them very well. And the flavor wasn't very good. Plus they were the smallest crab cakes I had ever seen. (If you're a Crab Cake lover I recommend MTN Prime's in Idaho Springs, large, moist inside and crispy outside and fantastically seasoned!) My husband and I both opted for the filet. He got his with the polenta cake and I got mine with their potatoes of the day, lavender. His filet was far under cooked from what he requested (served very rare, ordered medium rare) and mine was far over cooked from my requested medium well. (It was well done plus, with a bit of burning on the edges.) Neither of us thought the bacon onion accompaniment was very good. And in my case it kind of added to a char flavor. My potatoes had a weird texture to them. Kind of watery flavored and oddly grainy. Not like normal mashed potatoes. Maybe over boiled the potatoes before mashing? I could hardly eat them. The waitress only stopped by to check on me when I'd first taken one bite and hadn't tasted them so I couldn't ask for something else, sadly. She continued to not return again and we actually placed our dessert order with the young lady bussing tables. I also had to get up to request something more to drink from the hostess. The vegetable side was served rather luke warm. The restaurant was chilly anywhere not immediately by the fire, so they quickly became very cold. They had no discernible seasoning aside from possibly butter and reminded me of a Denny's vegetable side. I was disappointed because I LOVE well prepared vegetables. I ate one or two bites and didn't continue. Since we aren't frequent visitors to the area I probably wouldn't return and would try some of the other local establishments. If someone wants to celebrate a special occasion I have to recommend they drive further out west to dine in Breckinridge at Hearthstone, which is where we ate dinner the next evening. (Similarly priced entrees and much much much better quality with true gourmet creations perfectly cooked to order.) read more

The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. Our server was kind and knowledgeable. She recommended a mocktail that was a true delight! I've tried several mocktails during this pregnancy and most are terrible. This was a big deal for me For our meal, we started with the brussel sprouts (came with manchengo, apples, and peppers). We both were craving a good steak, so we each ordered the filet mignon meal. It did not disappoint! Wow! This restaurant is so delightful. I had the salmon and my husband had the lamb chop. Best salmon I have ever had! We both ordered the house salad. It was so tasty that we ordered some of the dressing to take home. even though we were so full, we had to indulge in the pear puffed pastry for dessert. so glad we did, it was amazing. We loved our waitress, Jade, and will ask for her again. The chef Rand and his wife Tiffany were very communicative about the food and history of the restaurant. We had an exceptional experience at Evoke. It was our first time back since rebranding from The Bistro. It had been about a year and we used to go there frequently. These were by far the best meals we ever had there. We had a hard time selecting apps and entrees because so much of the menu sounded amazing. We tried multiple dishes and from appetizers through dessert were impressed with every bite. The flavors were complex and delicious, not overly rich. Portions were perfectly sized. Here is a place that understands customer service, teamwork, service with a smile and the food is superb! I had ordered to go a few times and the food was tasty, flavorful and good portions. I decided to eat in last week. I called to confirm the kitchen was open and the girl on the other end of the phone was polite and also provided additional information - they were full in reservations but the bar was open seating, although she didn't have any at that moment. A young professional communicating - super appreciated! I decided to roll the dice and drive over. I was greeted by a friendly face behind the hostess stand who inquired about a reservation and when I said no, she wasn't rude or like "well lady, good luck!" She said if you want a high top in the bar. I said yes. She asked for a second to clean it off. What hostess and busser? People doing work outside their hired position? As I was eating alone I had lots of time to observe the interactions of several staff and everyone was polite and helping everyone. The bartender knew her beverages and made a hell of a martini. It was like a well synced dance how the staff worked the entire restaurant together. We all know the value of friendly people and superior customer service. This place has it! And the FOOD! I had the seared sea scallops with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. I had the duck confit salad - everything was well seasoned, great portions and just so tasty. We are long time customers at The Bistro at Marshdale for dinner and Easter Brunch and have always looked forward to eating there. The menu for brunch hasn't changed for the better with the change in management. Portions are much smaller and the potatoes that came as a side were not completely cooked. Boards of homemade bread are no longer offered. Just not the experience we had grown accustomed to from the Bistro! We will look elsewhere next year. read more

We celebrated a birthday by going to the bistro. The food was excellent. The only reason that I would not give the restaurant five stars . . . I am a lemonade drinker and the lemonade was insipid. Fortunately, they brought me an iced tea to replace the lemonade for no additional charge.
