I was charged $15.50 for a drink that is usually around $9.00-$11.00 at similar neighborhood bars, which already felt unusually high. While sitting at the bar, a framed license or picture fell off a shelf when the door closed, sending shattered glass just inches from me. I was understandably startled and asked if they could comp my drink. An older gray-haired man sitting at the end of the bar shook his head no and, from what I heard, told the bartender that it "just scared her." When I got home, I found small shards of glass in my hair. To be clear, I don't believe Leslie is aware of this situation, and I'm not trying to speak badly about the bar overall -- I'm simply sharing my personal experience. Living on a tight budget, being overcharged and then having a safety issue dismissed felt upsetting and careless. The situation changed how comfortable and welcome I feel there, which is disappointing because I genuinely used to enjoy coming here.

The tables are thoughtfully spaced around the restaurant, and while quiet when we arrived, slowly filled in (but didn't feel crowded). We decided to start with the two appetizer specials - the arinchini, and the ravioli, both of which were good (of the two, the ravioli was more of a standout dish, with more flavors in it). For a main course, I had the duck. I'm not sure I would order it again. The first piece I cut into, I had a hard time cutting, thinking there may be a bone, I realized it was just overcooked/tough. The bites that I had that were cooked properly, were very tasty. The yellow dollops of sauce on the plate were saffron flavored, and added an interesting dynamic/flavor to the duck. The winter vegetables were good, and it notes a cauliflower purée on the menu, but tasted a bit more like parsnip purée (either way, good depth of flavor, very tasty). The duck itself was also a bit on the salty side. The overall presentation of the dish was thoughtful, and looked beautiful. Others at the table ordered the scallops (great dish, served in a fun bowl), and the elk loin, which looked like it was cooked perfectly (medium rare/nice red center). We also had dirty martinis, with blue cheese olives, that were delicious. Overall, good meal, but the duck was a bit disappointing. I would for sure order something else.

The exterior already looks incredible, and it only gets better once you step inside. There's a beautiful fireplace, huge windows with great views, and a thoughtful mix of seating low tops, high tops, and spacious bar seating. That's just the upper level. The lower level wasn't open yet this weekend, but I took a peek and it looks incredibly cozy, with great wall decor and a really inviting layout. The food was fantastic and not just because I was coming off campsite meals. Everything was genuinely great. The cucumber appetizer dish reminded me of pepinos con chile and was especially good, and you really can't go wrong with the pizza here. The staff were also wonderful. You could tell they were adjusting to a brand-new space, but they were still warm, attentive, and clearly excited to be there. They provided a varied menu with incredibly unique and delicious drinks with an upscale yet cozy vibe inside. However our last visit was anything but. Supposedly they've made the decision to drop the entire "old menu" as the bartender called it in favor for an uninspired and honestly boring Christmas menu with drinks that weren't even remotely on the level of their previous offerings. Yet the prices were actually higher than their standards. This current menu feels like something you'd pay $11 for at a dive or chain restaurant. After a relatively long wait for service, we ordered 3 drinks, having to repeat ourselves multiple times to the hostess that didn't seem to have any clue of what their drinks were called. Of the 3, none of them included the garnishes that were outlined in the menu, and one drink was completely wrong. We were allowed to keep it and had it replaced at no cost at least, but even the replacement did not have the correct garnish per the menu. I'm praying this place didn't sell out and it's just in some strange transition period between seasons but I won't be returning to check until some time after the new year and these awful drinks are gone.
