Banana Split Latte
Ana B.

The Bean 226 is a tiny but super busy coffee shop. I was here on Saturday, there was hardly a spot to sit. They have a huge selection of beautiful mugs right by the front counter, not the best spot, since they could easily get knocked over. They have some locally made items for sale. There was art, jewelry, tee shirts, and more. It seems to be a very community oriented coffee shop. They have a whole variety of baked goods, as well as sandwiches they can make. I got the Banana Split Latte. It was ready quickly. I found a spot by the window on a bar stool. This latte was very tasty and frothy, but I couldn't taste any banana in it. It was still a bit sweet from the chocolate in it. They had a ton of available seats outside, it is still too cold to utilize those for now. I had a pleasant experience at The Bean 226, and will be returning soon.

Emerald Isle Latte and tomato hummus sandwich.

Was in town for a work conference and needed a pick me up. Adorable interior and very friendly staff. I got an iced Emerald Isle latte which is pistachio and white chocolate. Yum! I also got the tomato and hummus sandwich on sourdough. That was very simple but yummy and a perfect afternoon snack. They also had a basket of mini paper cranes to take when you picked up your food. Very charming! Overall, I'd stop in again.

I recently discovered The Bean 226 after a Yelp search for Windsor area coffee shops. With a 4.5 Star rating and over 100 reviews, it seemed like a good bet. It's located next to Taste of India in Windsor Center. There are all kinds of coffee drinkers, and we look for different things. I'm primarily a black iced coffee and/or cold brew drinker, and I drink home pour overs almost daily. The most important thing for me is the selection of a respected roaster, and the quality and type of beans used for iced coffee since I'm drinking it black. I prefer something bright and acidic. But I also like coffees that are smooth, balanced and/or rich, etc. I ordered a black iced coffee. I can usually figure out the roaster for the beans because coffee shops often display the bags and/or sell bags of coffee from that roaster. I couldn't find any clues at Bean 226. So I asked. The person who helped me didn't know. The black iced coffee was below average for CT coffee shops that I've visited. It was slightly unpleasant going down and in the aftertaste. It had either a slightly over-brewed or a past prime taste. Given their Yelp rating, I assume that Bean 226 must be good at other things like coffee beverages and/or food items. The atmosphere of the shop was cute. Service was fine, other than the lack of knowledge about their coffee. Bean 226 didn't connect for me. 2 Stars

They offer specialty lattes and bagels and breakfast sandwiches , among other things. Everything is delicious! We went during a morning rush and had to wait. It was worth it.

Needed real coffee - NOT Dunkin -- before hopping back on a flight out of Bradley Int'l, so I found this place on Yelp. About 15 minutes from the Hartford airport. Super cute shop on the main strip of a tiny downtown. My latte was good and relatively cheap ($4). My companion loved her strawberry Italian French soda. Hilarious signs in the bathroom. Locally made jewelry, pottery, art and candles for sale. Would come back if I were in the area.

Nice little coffee shop. Baked goods are gigantic and fairly tasty, coffee is bitter, needs to be in a latte to be drinkable. Randomly found this little breakfast spot not too far away from us. We decided to take a detour and get some drinks while out and about. The place is very much what I would consider a modern coffee shop: darker, lots of clutter pieces but not dirty. decent list of drinks and bakery items to munch on. The problem I have with this type of coffee shop. They don't brew coffee to order. You get drip which is brewed sometime between when you order it or when they opened, or you get something out of the espresso machine. I don't mind waiting for a good coffee to be brewed up, but I don't like having to result to americanos every time I want to have a warm cup of bean water. I decided to go with an americano, gilfriend opted for a fancy iced tea with tropical flavors. The bakery items were gigantic! bear claws were appropriately proportioned to an actual bear and the apple fritters were the size of a small bushel! So I got an apple fritter and the girlfriend got a biscotti. The americano, the coffee they used was too dark. It was closer to burnt, and the seep on the coffee brought out a lot of the bitter notes. had to add lots of sugar, milk, and more than a smattering of salt to combat the bitterness. It almost feels like the coffee is made very strong to compensate for the latte side of things. The bakery items were tasty. The apple fritter opted to not do chunks of apple through the dough and instead did an apple compote in a pocket in the pastry. It was a pleasant surprise when I got to it, since the rest of the pastry didn't really have an apple flavor. Overall, not bad but not really great coffee either. It's a good stop for the area, but unless you want a latte I don't think the coffee is good enough to stand on its own.

We've stopped here several times over the last year and have a good experience each time. The staff is always very nice. I've had coffees and lattes here that have been very good. If you are in Windsor I would definitely recommend if you are in need of some caffeine or a little snack.

Veronica and Diane's bakery operates on a "preorder" model, so their cookies, cupcakes, cream puffs, cake pops, scones and cannolis should be preordered by the dozen. Much of their business revolves around absolutely gorgeous made to order customized wedding and special occasion cakes and pies. They have close to thirty different cake flavors across the entire spectrum of yumminess. Here's the scoop on the flavor groups: "Classics" that include Chocolate, Vanilla, Red Velvet, and more. A "Fun & Delicious" line that includes among others Tangy Pink Lemonade, Pineapple Crush, Zesty Limeade, Maple Pancake, and Cinnamon Maple Four "Kids Favorites" of Sweet S'more, Cookie Dough Core, Cotton Candy, and Dreamsicle And some very intriguing booze flavors "For Adults" of Espresso Pubcake (made with Guiness beer), Rum & Coke, Lime Margarita, and Tequila Sunrise. On Friday and Saturday, they may have some cupcakes and cannolis for individual sale, so after a few text messages, I arranged to swing by and get 2 of each. While inside the store, I saw dozens of freshly baked cupcakes awaiting their custom "to order" icings, and two freshly baked stunning special occasion cakes awaiting pickup. We bought two chocolate chip cannolis, a chocolate cupcake, and a vanilla cupcake. We just finished scarfing down the cannolis. They were amazing! The filling wasn't super sweet, the chocolate chips were plentiful, and the shell was crispy and crunchy. A definite A+ of a cannoli. We will exercise some will power and share the cupcakes for tomorrow, but no doubt they will be equally stellar. If you EVER need a special occasion cake or a custom cupcake order, go check out their website, make a visit to Windsor, and say hello to Veronica and Diane, and make a Magic Moment of your own. This is clearly a local favorite and it is set up at the entrance to a local family farm. This is where they sort of lost me because I grew up on a farm. These places are never the entertainment for me that they are to others. But I understand the appeal to the local community and the length of the lines to buy ice cream in summer is a supporting proof of that. Sadly they have limited flavors and you cannot see or taste them before choosing, as most all of our ice cream places at home have available. I saw only a few on the list that I would order and chose the coffee flavor, hoping it was light in color and flavor. It was not. This is a problem for the caffeine low tolerance folks so don't choose it if you are one like me. There were few fruit flavors too, which surprised me in summer. The people were nice, the servings ample and the line moved quickly. There is seating at wooden picnic tables which face a fenced area where there are some animals to see. I think city residents would clearly enjoy this part more than I did. They serve cones and cups, but on such a hot day they recommended cups as safer though one of our hosts chose the cone anyway. I might look further for ice cream should we go back again. But the quality was fine and the portions substantial and probably more than I needed anyway. We all finished our ice cream and I was glad we could reach it so quickly.
