The latter was an easy favorite. I appreciated the inclusion of the katafi. I liked all 4, I would just say pb & j was an easy last place. It didn't have as strong a flavor as the others. I wasn't personally as wowed as many foodie friends are, but I did really enjoyed my ice cream. It wasn't overly heavy either, which was great. So I do look forward to going back and trying more!

They are adding one in Orange to join the existing lineup in New Britin, North Attleboro, Windsor, Sturbridge, East Lyme, and West Hartford. We've already been to their New Britain flagship store, and we just visited the brand new West Hartford location. We found it in the middle of Blue Back Square in the space previously occupied by Kilwin's. Frisbie's sells Super Premium, handcrafted ice cream and dairy-free options. I saw twenty-six flavors up on the menu board, and it was cute how some name-checked Connecticut locations within the flavors. Case in point were Cheshire Cherry Vanilla, Stanley Park Strawberry, Southington Salted Caramel, Newington Nutella, Farmington Fudge..... oh well...you get the idea, right? We wanted two sugar cones, but business must have been great on the Fourth of July because they were sold out of sugar cones. But that meant we each pivoted and ordered a single scoop cup for $6. I went with Cheshire Cherry Vanilla (Vanilla ice cream with swirls of sweet black cherries in cherry filling) and my wife went with Mikey's Mint Chocolate Chunk (Mint ice cream with chunks of chocolate, made using freshly picked mint cooked into the ice cream base). They were fairly large single scoops, and you won't feel ripped off at the $6 price tag. So how was their "Super Premium, handcrafted ice cream"? It was fantastic. Smooth, creamy, decadent and full of flavor. I had one topping, the marshmallows, which I don't recommend since it was stale. I also had the taro boba tea sans the boba pearls; they didn't have any but I still had the taro tea and it was good. My toddler had the birthday cake flavored rolled ice cream and he loved it, especially with the m&m and gummy bear toppings. The location was convenient; it was in a plaza with plenty of parking. The employee was friendly. Overall, a good spot to get this type of specialty ice cream, without going to Thailand.

I opened Yelp and found this place. I chose the "Mango Girl," which is listed as having fresh mango. The friendly attendant took a cup of premixed cream, sugar, and whatever else goes into ice cream and some mango and poured it out on what looked like a pizza pan. I wasn't sure what she was up to, but watched in wonder as she went at this mixture with a couple metal spatulas, chopping, mixing, and chopping again (hence the "stir fried ice cream" claim) as the liquid began to freeze. It turns out that the "pizza pan" was wicked cold. She flattened and smoothed out the mixture just before it hardened, and then, scraped it off the pan in neat little rolls, and put about 6 or 7 little rolls in a paper bowl. We then moved to the toppings station where I was told to choose "up to 4" toppings... stuff like white chocolate chips, rice crispy bar, and some Japanese cookies and candies. All in: $8.00 including tax. Very intriguing. Unique for me, but here's the deal: the ice cream just wasn't very good. It was overly sweet and had no distinct flavor. I don't know if it was supposed to be vanilla with mango in it, mango with mango in it, or maybe sweet cream and mango. It was just sweet. Too sweet. No flavor. And, wicked cold. Which is good in concept, but not so good for eating ice cream. It was hard. It crumbled into dry bits when I tried to take a spoonful. So, I was left with not-so-great ice cream that was difficult to eat. As it warmed, it was not-so-good ice cream that was less difficult to eat. I give Icy Rolls a star for the ice cream, a star for the idea and presentation, and a star for being open at 2pm on Sunday.

Total came to $16.10, a bit pricey, but it was well worth it. My wife was very satisfied, her sweet fix taken care of. We will certainly be back, Calos Cookies makes incredible baked goods, and now we have an outstanding place in town for an occasional decadent treat. Life is good !

You can sit and enjoy it outside at the several available tables. There's no going inside. This ice cream is hand crafted in Granville, MA. They're called Gran-Val Scoop. They have plenty more flavors available at their original location. At the Alley Scoop they have some really fun original flavors, such as Maple Bacon and Lavender Honey. I got the Strawberry and the Brownie Dough. The one scoop in a cup is a very generous portion. This was very chocolatey, with brownie pieces and white chocolate pieces. So tasty, even though chocolate isn't my first pick. The strawberry was your classic, sweet strawberry. I would love to return next month to see what seasonal flavors they would have.

There were about half a dozen benches and tables in the alley, and a like number on the sidewalk on Broad Street. They had fifteen ice cream flavors available, plus two sorbets, two vegan flavors, and a Banana Sugar Free choice. Floats, shakes, coffee blends, sundaes, a cookie sandwich, and a waffle concoction round out their product line. We each had a waffle cone - Butter Crunch (almond candy and butterscotch ice cream) and Caramel Pretzel (Vanilla ice cream with caramel ribbons and sweet and salty chocolate covered pretzel bits). The Caramel Pretzel was mine and it was really good, with a smooth and creamy vanilla base and plenty of those yummy chocolate pretzel bits and pieces. Their ice cream is homemade by the good folks at the Gran-Val Scoop in Granville, MA. Our single scoops on a sugar cone were $5 each.
