This place is perfection! The staff was warm and friendly and happily let us try a few different flavors so we would make the perfect selection for our cones! I'm not a big fan of orange flavor, but my husband got orange chocolate chip and it was delicious! The strawberry was creamy smooth, which my 9 year old appreciated, she doesn't like "chunks" of fruit in her ice cream. I was thrilled with the banana ice cream, and def will return to see what fun creations they dream up next time! We controlled ourselves and didn't take home any pints during this visit, but next time I sense the coffee pint coming home with me. Nice quiet seating inside, or take you deliciousness outside when the weather is nice.

Really dense, high fat content ice cream that definitely raises the bar for ice cream in northern CT. Lots and lots of interesting flavors. I had two scoops ... cannoli and rum raisin. My friend had one scoop of chocolate mint w caramel in a waffle cone. Limited indoor seating. Busy place. Be prepared to wait in line, but worth it. Upon returning home, I immediately changed into walking apparel and walked 4.2 miles in an attempt to burn off some of the bazillion calories. Futile effort. 5 yummy stars

Delicious homemade ice cream, serving up traditional and unique flavors. You can try samples of their flavors first, the staff is helpful and friendly!

The flavors here are amazing as well as the quality of ice cream. Definitely more pricey but worth it. If you want unique flavors this is the place to go as they have great seasonal items and rotating flavors. Service is quick and very large venue- both indoors and outdoors. Overall recommend

If icecream tastes like this ....I can live on icecream for the rest of my life. This is next level "gourmet" ..10 notches up. "Mature flavors" is how they describe their icecream...it sure is, not gonna argue with that. unique/bizarre flavors such as honey lavender, goat cheese blackberry, lemon poppyseed, salted licorice.... and revolving flavors.. you never know what you're going to find when you visit. The ice cream is not heavily creamy... a bit on the icy side... light and easy to eat, devoid of any after guilt. Reasonably priced. Also love the streetscape. You have to try it yourself ... it's ridiculously good!! P.S: first time seeing 1 and 1/2 scoop as an option.

My favorite ice cream place in CT. Also love they have pints to go. This place has some of the most unique flavors. There is also another restaurant attached for more snacks!

I say a lot "why isn't this closer to me???" and with Grassroots Ice Cream, I feel this so much. The ice cream is amazing - smooth and creamy, and the flavors are so unique and different it sets them apart from the other ice cream in the area. I tried their Oreo flavors as a baseline, and they were integrated into the ice cream absolutely seamlessly. There is parking in front and back, with seating inside and in back. The employees are incredibly patient, which I assume may be due to dealing with customers overwhelmed by their variety all day. If you love ice cream, this is a must stop!

I was bored during the Pandemic and I posted a Central CT Food Bucket List on Facebook. Some friends added their own places in the comments. My friend Michelle sang the praises of Grassroots Ice Cream in Granby. I think more than one friend echoed Michelle. Although I have many great ice cream options that are closer to my Newington home, I knew I needed to go. And I did visit, with my wife and Pasta the Dog. We loved it, but that was probably months before I started actively reviewing on Yelp. Today, squarely in the heart of my Yelp reviewing hobby, I returned and instantly recalled what I loved about the first visit. Grassroots has cool flavors that stand out. Flavors including Lime Chocolate Chip, Bergamot and Double Oreo. I ordered a double scoop of Goat Cheese Blackberry, and Biscoff, on a sugar cone. As I ate the ice cream, I savored the high quality ingredients. The Biscoff tasted like a Biscoff cookie, with deep buttery caramel notes and cookie swirls. Although I didn't so much taste Goat Cheese in the Goat Cheese BlackBerry, it did seem slightly good acidic like Buttermilk. The fruit notes were subtle and tasty. Service was friendly. The shop is cute and it's adjacent to a large grassy area with benches. My one note is that I would prefer if they took orders in front of the list of ice cream flavors like most places do. Rather, you order at the cash register on the side. Especially since I don't frequently visit Grassroots and the flavors change frequently, I would have felt more comfortable seeing the flavors as I ordered. Grassroots appears on Best Ice Cream in CT Lists. If you like comparing the best CT ice cream places, you should try Grassroots, even if you need to drive a bit to get there. Five Stars

11.19.21 Good spot to indulge in ice cream. They offer a large assortment of flavors. Anytime I've been here over the past year in a half there has been no inside service or ordering. Each time I have been here over this past year they come outside to you to take your order. You then give them your payment and they go back inside to prepare your order while you wait outside on the sidewalk or in your vehicle. It is seamless and convenient. It is surprisingly quick for them to return with your order. Their prices are average for what you get. They have a small parking lot in front and a large lot in back. Their hot fudge is really good. Very tasty. Good whipped cream but a lil pricey. The workers are always kind, pleasant and very patient while you are sometimes deciding on which flavor or flavors to get.

I've been to Grassroots several times and have never been disappointed. The ice cream is always creamy and tastes farm fresh and Grassroots' flavor combinations are awesome. Service was fast and friendly despite the number of people who were in to grab ice cream on a very cold day (it's always a good day for ice cream)! Definitely recommend!

My family and I are big on ice cream and milk shakes and loved this place so much we ate at it two days in a row. The variety of flavors was great and the quality is evident. Glad to have found this spot and will be searching for something similar near our home. The staff were also very patient and never seemed rushed.

If this isn't a ringing endorsement, I don't know what is!

Thick, creamy, fresh. Classic flavors but also unique options like honey lavender. I can see why people flock to this spot. My only complaint is you can't see the actual ice cream as they scoop so it makes it hard to choose the flavor you want-- especially with kiddos. Important to know the base flavor! But otherwise we'll be back again and again!

The tractor ride was fun; you can buy a ticket just for the tractor ride alone for $5 or $18 for a bag and tractor ride. We waited about 30 minutes for the tractor; it was the last tractor ride of the day and it was a busy Saturday. We went late in the season so most of the apples were picked over. We were able to get a bag full though. The property was amazing and the view of the hills from the orchard was lovely. After, we sat at the picnic table area and which had fire pits too. They had toys for the kids and there was live music. We tried out their hard cider (4-pack $24) and it was good. Overall, it's a fun place to do a fall festivitiy.

I had one topping, the marshmallows, which I don't recommend since it was stale. I also had the taro boba tea sans the boba pearls; they didn't have any but I still had the taro tea and it was good. My toddler had the birthday cake flavored rolled ice cream and he loved it, especially with the m&m and gummy bear toppings. The location was convenient; it was in a plaza with plenty of parking. I opened Yelp and found this place. I chose the "Mango Girl," which is listed as having fresh mango. The friendly attendant took a cup of premixed cream, sugar, and whatever else goes into ice cream and some mango and poured it out on what looked like a pizza pan. I wasn't sure what she was up to, but watched in wonder as she went at this mixture with a couple metal spatulas, chopping, mixing, and chopping again (hence the "stir fried ice cream" claim) as the liquid began to freeze. It turns out that the "pizza pan" was wicked cold. She flattened and smoothed out the mixture just before it hardened, and then, scraped it off the pan in neat little rolls, and put about 6 or 7 little rolls in a paper bowl. We then moved to the toppings station where I was told to choose "up to 4" toppings... stuff like white chocolate chips, rice crispy bar, and some Japanese cookies and candies. All in: $8.00 including tax. Very intriguing. Unique for me, but here's the deal: the ice cream just wasn't very good. It was overly sweet and had no distinct flavor. I don't know if it was supposed to be vanilla with mango in it, mango with mango in it, or maybe sweet cream and mango. It was just sweet. Too sweet. No flavor. And, wicked cold. Which is good in concept, but not so good for eating ice cream. It was hard. It crumbled into dry bits when I tried to take a spoonful. So, I was left with not-so-great ice cream that was difficult to eat. As it warmed, it was not-so-good ice cream that was less difficult to eat. I give Icy Rolls a star for the ice cream, a star for the idea and presentation, and a star for being open at 2pm on Sunday.
