Another great back roads trip up to Gran-Val Scoop Pulled into this wonderful location that has a working farm and petting zoo attached to it. I also saw children of all ages, riding animals in the pen. Entering the building with the ice cream shop is so welcoming. The place was busy, but the line moved quick. There is a great system involved here and it works when it gets busy I ordered up the small hot fudge sundae with chocolate ice cream, and within five minutes it was sitting in my hand, and I was out on the porch, sitting on a very comfortable bench. Taking in all the sites is just bonus. It's so peaceful up here. The total including tip was $7.50, and this was a very good bargain Now that the good weather is here take a ride up to the backcountry through Simsbury Granby, and into Granville. It's just such a great ride through farm country. And once you get here, it's hard to leave! read more

The creamiest most delicious ice cream I've had in a long time.. maybe ever! And the baby goats and all of the animals made it 10 times better. I had to go back the next day, it was so good! If you're anywhere nearby please take the trip! You won't regret it! read more

i've gone here since I was a kid, and nothing has changed. service is always great, overall feel and look of the entire property and interior of the shop is very classy and vintage, love the little "zoo" they got going on outside while ur eating some ice cream, speaking of, the ice cream is probably the best I ever had. I give it 3 stars because I think their milkshakes could so much better. they have the consistency of thin pancake batter, flavor of the chosen ice cream, but it's never COLD. always felt like I was drinking a glass of milk that was left out for half an hour. for the cost, I expected a damn near perfect one. i'll go for ice cream, but never again getting their milkshakes. you're better off buying a quart and making 4 smaller ones out of that, I really wish they were thicker and richer. read more

The sign caught our eye as we were casually driving around enjoying the snow and we are so glad we stopped by. This place has delicious ice cream and the lady behind the counter was super kind. My young one was having a hard time deciding what flavor ice cream to get and she patiently let him try a few flavors until he picked one. I'm saving this to my Yelp favorites list as place to definitely return to. read more

Best Ice cream in Massachusetts maybe even all of New England's! The people are great!

Some of the best ice cream under the sun!! Petting the animals is always a hit!! Visit the farm and get your ice cream on!!

Cute ice cream shoppe, love that there are animals to visit with and they seem well taken care of. There was a variety of ice cream flavors to choose from, some that i have never heard of. Would have given 5 stars but deducted a star because they don't clean the scooper before switching flavors. I ordered sorbet and they gave me a scoop that had regular ice cream in it, i am lactose intolerant so was not able to eat the whole portion i paid for. read more

A very good ice cream for the area, with plenty to look at and good scoops to try. Around the area, and found a random ice cream stop to try. The place is pretty big, lots of places outside to sit and a full petting zoo with all the farm animals and feeding stations around the area. This ice cream spot has lots of flavors to try, and thankfully a sampler tray to try a bunch. I tried their rum raisin, brownie batter, snicker doodle, and cookie dough. Ice cream is dense and has very strong flavors. It's a very good quality ice cream and priced well Overall, a very solid dish of cow juice. It's a place worth trying if you're in the area for sure read more

Granval Scoop, Granville, MASS July 7, 2024 On my way home from Wildwood up near Cranberry Pond, my kids and I stopped by for a quick refresher. I've been going to Granval Scoop for years. We use it as a reward and inspiration to get up get going and we'll stop at Granval scoop. Most of the time it's Grampa or Bestafar or Ye Ye treating but tonight I treated. Our little one has an egg and peanut allergy so he does have to be careful. He asked for the cookie dough and it was great. No worries. My daughter asked for the Reeses Pieces and she loved that. So much she wouldn't give her old man a taste. I went for the Coffee Heath. This was delectable. I went this time with the knowledge from my last visit which was a much slower time and not many guests. I asked a big question about going from Cow to ice cream and the owner went to great lengths to educate me on the many nuances of the ice cream business. Absolutely fascinating. This time I had that knowledge and we were still alarmed at the wonderful taste in my mouth but the obtrusive smell coming from the animals. This is a memorable contrast. I found some shade from the oppressive heat and we watched the Llamas make funny faces and we also saw the peacock showing off big time. Every visit brings back memories. If you are in the mood for a $4+ ice cream cone of some of the utmost quality and thick rich creamy ice cream made on location, this is the place for all the families, kids, grandparents, bikers young people and world travelers. Everyone is welcome at Granval Scoop! Maybe we will see you there! read more

Very yummy ice cream!!! I had butter crunch and my husband had maple walnut! Always a good time!

Petting zoo was fun for the kids and ice cream was delicious. Quintessential New England activity.

Just a great place! Great ice cream, lots of flavors! They have other items for sale. Spring, summer & Fall they have a "petting zoo,". A variety of animals to see. Just a great place to go to enjoy ice cream, browse the animals & Relax. Scenic route to get to. Go a little bit farther & you're in Granville, MA; bear to the left at the fork & you're at the Granville Store. Grab a cup of coffee, a pastry, a fresh made sandwich OR get yourself a pound or two of their Famous Granville Cheddar! read more

Super fun place! My sign language group decided to have our meet up here and wow what a fun choice. It's a little off the beaten path but worth the effort. It was hard to choose from all of the unique homemade flavors but I narrowed it down to Rhubarb and Caramel Apple Cheesecake. Both ice creams were yummy but the apple was my favorite. Service is fast and friendly. Outdoors is where the real fun begins. We walked around and enjoyed the petting zoo. Bring some quarters with you if you want to feed the animals some grains. Last night it was especially crowded because it was movie night so people were stretched out on the lawn ready to watch a film. There is plenty of parking and plenty of seating, indoors, outdoors, covered and uncovered. What I enjoyed most is that lingering is encouraged. It's quite a gem. read more

After spending the day in the Berkshires, we were so fortunate this place was still open. I loved the spacious area where you could survey all the amazing sounding flavors. I finally settled on mocha chip which was amazing. We went outside to see the farm animals including llamas and donkeys who came right up to us. We thoroughly enjoyed the setting while devouring our fantastic ice cream. read more

While visiting in Massachusetts, a friend took me here to get some ice cream. He had a sundae which look nice, while I got a cone with cookie dough and mint chip ice cream. The cookie dough was good, but the star of the show was the mint chip which was very creamy. Also, it was white as opposed to green (so those, like myself, avoiding artificial colours take note.) Would go back! read more

So when you go to an ice cream place, where do you head first? The menu board to see what flavors they have? The freezer case to see what the goods look like? Well, that's not the case here. When we pulled into the parking lot of Gran-Val Scoop, we headed straight for the animals, because Gran-Val is a family destination with lots of entertainment options. It's really a combination zoo and working dairy. We must have seen fifty cows in the dairy barn munching on their hay. We saw pigs, piglets, goats, llamas, rabbits, turkeys, chickens, and more. The zoo is totally free and we saw quite a few delighted kiddies running around in wonder. There were a lot of kids on site last night at Gran-Val, because last night was movie night, with movies projected on the barn. The ice cream selection is large, but it's just one of the things you'll see in the central building. The staff was very helpful. here's also a snack bar, a frozen meat case, an ice cream cake freezer, and a giant pre-packed freezer, plus arts and crafts. Service was prompt and full of smiles. I mentioned that I saw a flavor on their website that wasn't offered when we visited, and someone promptly took my name and e-mail and promised to let me know when it was next scheduled for production. What a very cool place. read more

Some of my fondest childhood memories include the Gran-Val Scoop, and some of the best date nights as a teenagers began with an ice cream here on a hot summer evening. Excellent home made ice cream, and local honey available in the shop as well. The portions are generous, and the quality is superb. This is a family run business, so their livelihood depends the quality of your experience, So you know it will be out of this world. It's great for children as they have animals around to pet and feed grain to (the grain cones are a super cute idea). A fellow yelper mentioned it is seasonal, and a summer in New England certainly must include a trip here. read more

Good God! One of the best ice-cream parlors ever. Located on a historic farm, with a petting zoo full of lamas and their own herd of milking cows, the milk they use in making their ice cream is insanely fresh and you can definitely taste it here. I tried Pistachio and Sweet Cream, both were excellent but I think the stellar flavor here is Sweet Cream. I came here twice on a recent trip to the area and both times ordered it. I was even contemplating buying some of their pre-packaged pints of their home-made ice cream but since I don't have a freezer in my car, it would have been pointless for the long 5 hour drive back to Montreal. Sweet, creamy, fresh, you can't get fresher, better tasting ice cream. I'm still dreaming of that ice cream. read more

I like to eat good food, and I love ice cream. There are a few places that are a must to go to for good ice cream for me, and the Scoop is definitely one of them. They make their own ice cream from dairy from the cows on their farm. They have tons of delicious flavors and homemade waffle cones. Several of the family members still run the ice cream stand, and you can stop out and see some of the animals on their farm after you eat your ice cream indoors. It is nice to have a spot indoors because you never know when it's going to rain. It is also great that they have a clean restroom. There are a couple other ice cream stands I know of in the area that have decent ice cream, but don't have a restroom..Northside Creamery and Fini's in Westfield to name two. There's nothing like having soap and water to wash your hands after being outside before you eat your ice cream. Sometimes those kids just forget. Another great part about this stand, is that when you order a medium, you get two full scoops of ice cream on your cone. I could probably eat three or four scoops, but two scoops is a great amount after dinner or in place of dinner. :) As they expand, you can now get quarts and half gallons of their ice cream in the store. They offer sugar-free ice cream and sorbets. There's other farm merchandise such as milk and eggs there as well. You may also buy treats to feed the animals. They even have a cool goat 'treehouse'. read more

Where is the ice cream. I purchased a small and medium ice cream cone for more than $10. The small was less than a child's portion, and the medium size was only slightly larger. Will be going to Ben & Jerry's next time. Way better ice cream and you don't leave hungry. The Scoop is only good if your on a diet. read more

I recently ordered an ice cream cake from The Scoop for the first time, it was for my daughter's birthday. To say that this cake was perfect is an understatement. This cake was above and beyond what I thought I was going to get. It was absolutely delicious and well put together. The ice cream was delectable and creamy. The ingredients of peanut butter cup and Oreo were actual chunks not crumbs like most places. And the customer service was as it always is, welcoming and helpful. I will be ordering my son's cake in July and I can't wait to taste it. Thanks Nicole for all of your help, Reese loved her cake and Cordelia's picture! read more

This seems particularly important to mention, so I'll say it first....it's SEASONAL. Opens mid April each year. This place is GREAT! I used to go here fairly often back in high school. It used to bug me that it's a little far away (and that there's really no great way to get there), but it's worth it. It's not a bad little afternoon activity if you're bored, or the kids are bored. Not only will they love the ice cream, but there are also farm animals to see / pet. Their home made ice cream is absolutely delicious, and they use local ingredients in them. The almond joy , snickers and maple walnut stand out in my memory as being particularly good. They also do hot dogs, ice cream cakes, baked goods, etc, but I always went solely with ice cream in mind. Insider Info: As I mentioned above - petting zoo! Taking the kids, but not feeling ice cream right now? Want to get more for later? There are prepackaged quarts, half gallons and gallons available for purchase as well! You can buy it at a few elite locations (for example Millie's Convenience Store in Southwick, MA used to sell it, not sure if that's still true). Remember - it's seasonal. It's just down the street from the Granville Country Store - a great little place, particularly for really good cheese. If you're going to drive all the way out to Granville you'd have to be insane to not stop there too! That's not a bad place for kids either - I used to love going there for the rock candy and/or other candy available. I will review it at some point... read more

Delicious, fresh ice cream, reasonable prices (a tad high, but good value), good service, yummy flavors if not unique (like Grassroots), homemade sundae sauces and whipped cream... all in a bucolic setting with a petting zoo. What's not to love? It's charming, close by, fun, and unique. We take all of our out-of-town friends here during the season, and have been coming for over a decade. We've never had a bad experience either with the ice cream or the service. One caveat - if you don't like farms or the smell of cows (and thus manure), don't come. It is not a pristine fake farm - this is a working dairy farm. So instead of focusing on the cows (and byproducts), enjoy your ice cream and head to the bunny hatch, or watch the goats. It's a delightful place to go. As an added plus, the bike riding along Route 189 is wonderfully flat and reasonably wide, with interesting paths and off-shoots. The Scoop makes the perfect pit stop for road riding on a summer afternoon. Did I mention Granville is a lovely little town as well (and that you can zip up to the town center and pick up homemade cheese at the Granville Store as well)? read more

It's true. It's an ice cream place, but it's as good as it gets (to quote Jack Nicholson). Real cows (as well as other animals) on the premises. You can visit them, as well as smell them.
