Your resturant is one of my family favorites- however your service can be VERY slow. Sometimes we have to wait over half an hour just for waters and my parents an alcholic beverage.. Your food is one of the only things i enjoy, but sometimes it comes out cold for waiting so long. Its very unique with some things ive never heard of (dont reccomend avocado toast!!!) Sadly your restruant is VERY VERY loud. Im used to people being at least somewhat quiet, but these people might as well laugh and scream into microphones. Maybe add a drink limit for some adults because its far too loud for a 'niche' restruant. read more

3.5 stars. @ the barn restaurant is part of the Zen Restaurant Group; there is @ the rooftop, La Figata, Table 570, Han Asian Cusine, and Z Catering. We decided to have a late lunch here with our guest from Florida. We missed brunch by a couple of minutes, they stopped it at 3pm. The menu was vast with a ton of options. The dinner entrees were pricey, running around $30 per dish. We got the Mac and cheese from the kids menu for my kids; they seemed to enjoy it. For my drink, I got the caramel espresso martini, which had caramel vodka, Kahlua, Bailey's chocolate, and lavazza espresso for $15, it was tasty but pricey. My entree, I had the buttermilk chicken rice bowl $16; this came with rice & beans, pico de Gallo, and avocado. The meal was good. The rice had delicious flavor and the chicken had a palatable crispy batter. We also had the Parmesan truffle fries which were decent. Everyone in my group enjoyed their meals and drinks. The service was okay, kind of slow, since our waitress had a bunch of patrons sit in her section all at once. I won't fault her for that, she was trying her best. The patio was a great spot to sit on a warm autumn afternoon. The building was pretty cool looking, it did look like a barn. Overall, prices were on the high side and the food was average to slightly above average. However, my family and I would return, more so for lunch and brunch. read more

We stopped by from out of town. Everything is more expensive than home (Florida). I got a Cobb Salad ($14) with shrimp (+$14). I asked for extra dressing, didn't get it. The salad was OK -- romaine, diced cucumbers, halved grape tomatoes, bacon, avocado, 1 hard boiled egg. The shrimp were three large shrimp, overcooked and tough. I thought 3 shrimp for $14 was ridiculous. I would have much rather had 6 smaller shrimp. So the bill was $30 for salad and 3 large shrimp. Nobody came to fill our water glasses or check up on us. My two sisters were thrilled either. One had a fried fish sandwich that was a bit bland, and the other had a rice bowl with beef, and said the black beans were too hard and undercooked. read more

I ordered takeout from The Barn in Granby and it was absolutely delicious! I got the clam chowder and the Brussels sprouts with bacon, and both were unbelievable. The chowder was creamy and full of flavor, and the Brussels sprouts had the perfect crispiness with just the right amount of savory bacon. Even though I ordered to-go, everything was packaged really well and tasted just as fresh as if I were dining in. The menu has so many options that I honestly want to try everything, and it's definitely worth traveling back for. Food took 1 hour and 45 minutes to arrive from reservation arrival for Mothers Day on 5-10-26. It was a shit show, people were complaining, leaving and trying to be served as many had young kids. Kathryn who was running the place was non existent, wait staff tried to make things better but Kathryn running the place seemed to drop the ball and never talked to our table at any point. Terrible service, James usually treats people better but this was a huge shit show. They had reservations so they knew what was coming, Took what should have been a very nice day and made it very uncomfortable for many, especially those who had younger and older people in their party. read more

Food here is good. Originally this was trying to be a steakhouse and now it's a restaurant that can't make up its mind. There are salads, Mexican type dishes, burgers, wraps, steak and then an assortment of plates. This caters more to the happy hour crowd in my opinion or the Sunday brunch imbibers! Service is always good. The ambiance is a little tough depending on where you eat. The location of the spot isn't conducive to a romantic view. read more

Had a chance to make my way up to Granby to try out The Barn. Heads Up: You will need to call ahead and make reservations. Unless you'd like to gamble. I went at lunch time, upon arrival I was I was asked for a reservation (which I didn't have), but they seated me due to the fact that it wasn't busy at the time. The Barn is, in fact, a BARN. It has outdoor seating, but I went in January, so it's no outside for me . The inside wasn't gutted like some places might be. Instead, the interior was a painted white repurposed barn. Instead of focusing on the country vibe of barn, the Barn furnishings are modern and upscale in look. Now the food. I opted for the Granby burger as my choice of food option for lunch. If I'm going to go burger, I look for something that make it different. The Granby burger is a burbon onion herb remoulade. The burger was juicy and tasty. It had a great flavor and it came with a side of hand cut fries. I would definitely stop by again (with a reservation) to try some of their dinner options the next time I'm in the area. We Discovered this gem on a backroad drive. I had book marked it a while ago but forgot about it. So glad we stopped. They have a good happy hour menu. 3-6pm. 1/2 price wines and beer specials. The spinach and artichoke dip was delicious! We ordered the halibut with corn salsa over basmati rice. And the ribeye with fresh green beans. Everything was excellent. The outdoor dining is lovely. No room for dessert. Service was friendly and the restrooms were clean. A huge plus in my book! read more

Went this past weekend for a second visit to this Granby restaurant. The first time we had an excellent dinner-- food was great, the place was quite packed and not loud, and the service was excellent. I ordered the paella which was described to me as one of the more popular dishes, and while it was good, I did point out to the server that the shellfish hadn't been cleaned of all their sand; several bites I tried and got a startling "crunch" from the grit, so a good portion of my protein was inedible, but the flavor overall was spot on. I mentioned this to the waitress, but there was no offer to comp or discount the dish (I left a good portion of it uneaten on the plate). She did come back to say the chef appreciated getting the feedback... so I guess that's good for them? Today we went for brunch. Four of us had breakfast items and my son chose to have the chicken linguine. Everyone was happy with their meals which were spot on and filling. After a day of looking at houses in the area, we found this place. To be honest the " @ " was what we gave us an indication that it would be modern and causal place, pub food but a step up. We were promptly seated, quickly approached for a drink order (sodas), which arrived promptly. We ordered the Bacon burger cooked medium with fries and a Ceasar salad with chicken. The burger was cooked perfectly, the fries were a little over done /dark brown. The salad was plentiful with the right amount of dressing and slices of cheese, the chicken was a small breast piece but it wasn't sliced and no knife was given with it. Overall it was a good visit and we are willing to give it another try. read more

The drink menu was very artisanal with good ingredients. They had a couple of non alcoholic cocktails too. I had the Isle of Capri, which had coconut cream, pineapple, and orange juice. Like a painkiller. Food quality is okay. For appetizers we had PEI mussels and grilled steak kebabs. My ribeye wasn't that well-marbled and my Dad's pork belly and shrimp "surf and turf" dish was a bit too fatty. Service was very slow. We dined on Mother's Day (Sunday night) at 7pm, but we didn't get our entrees until 1 hour and 15 minutes after we ordered them. Luckily the appetizers tided us over so that we weren't apoplectic. But so many people had left by the time we got our main dishes. Our server seemed to be the only waitress working in our section. She was friendly, but seemed under pressure all night. An older couple sat down next to us and I noticed it took a long time for anyone to realize they were there and attend to them. They seemed to be regulars too, as a couple of restaurant staff came by to talk to them. But service was very slow. Now I understand why they had tables available for Mother's Day while other comparable restaurants were fully booked. Ambiance: it's a festive/noisy atmosphere inside. My cell phone (Verizon) wasn't working very well inside. They have outdoor seating with heat lamps, which is a nice option. Value: Not it's strong point. I understand inflation and labor shortages have taken their toll, but there's better value to be had elsewhere. A Manhattan cocktail costs $21, which is very expensive. My ribeye steak was $38 and three scallops were an extra $16. Not terrible if the flavor were better, but it wasn't. The steak tasted on par with Outback or Longhorn or something like that. Texas Roadhouse was probably tastier. read more

At The Barn has a great vibe for dinner with dimmed lighting and pretty chandelier-like fixtures inside. They also have a patio outside with plenty of seating (and a bar) for warmer days. Everyone was beyond welcoming from the moment I stepped in and our waitress was very attentive - she even asked if my party preferred a table or booth. She checked on us periodically throughout our meal and gave some great recommendations on menu items. Another waiter was very quick clearing off the tables when we were done with our plates as well as refilling our water glasses. I felt incredibly taken care of. The food was also delicious! The Pan Seared Scallops were so flavorful, paired with hazelnut vegetable quinoa and sage cider gastrique. I would definently say it is a must try. I also got their Granby burger but it was a bit dry for my liking and tasted slightly burnt, despite it being medium well, but the bourbon onion herb sauce on it was tasty. I urge you not to skip dessert! The dessert cocktails are an incredible pairing to whatever dessert you choose. I got the Cookies and Milk Cocktail which had a whiskey base and it was SO GOOD, especially with their brownie sundae. Went home so full and so happy. My friend came to visit from New Orleans, and I wanted to show her a really nice place for lunch in Granby, sadly the day we went they were closed. We were both starving, I did a quick Yelp search, that led us to @ The Barn. I'm not so sure of the history of the barn, but it does look like a barn from the outside. Inside is a bit more modern, with some cool lights and a spacious space for sitting. We were greeted by a gentleman who guided us to our table. I noticed it wasn't particularly clean inside, there were greasy marks on the wall, and crumbs on the floor. Off the specials menu, we each got the Tuscan Chicken White Bean Soups and we got the Autumn Watercress Salad to share. We also got hot coffee each. The waitress brought us the coffee in dirty mugs. I'm not sure why I didn't say anything, but there were dry coffee spills all down the side of my mug. I have never seen this in my whole life of drinking coffee. Next she brought us the soups, this was another huge letdown. The soups came in little cups, that were filled all the way to the brim. When she placed down the soup in front of my friend, it splattered everywhere, on my friend's arm, top and pants. There was no apology, she didn't seem to notice her heavy handed behavior. I have never encountered something like this before. This soup honestly wasn't my favorite. I ate it, because I was starving, my friend didn't touch hers. It didn't look fresh at all. It looked like a bunch of left overs that were thrown together. The Autumn Watercress Salad, was ok. But the stems weren't cut off the watercress, which I didn't like. I did enjoy the goat cheese in this salad. Overall, this was a super disappointing experience @ the barn. I will for sure not be returning here again. read more

The menu recently changed and prices have gone up. I find it hard to believe that the price of all food has risen to warrant these prices. Also one of the best things they offered on the menu was their mashed potatoes. I chose many times to come here for that reason alone and they took them off the menu. The drink prices are also higher. It's getting harder and harder to choose to go out to eat and have a cocktail. The service is generally good. The ambiance isn't great. It's always sort of loud in there. Hoping they realize some of this and give you a reason to want to choose to dine here. read more

The Barn, or as I just "lurned" "@ The Barn" either way this is a favorite stop for a nice, easy flowing tavern meal and a beverage. Our two recent stops have been outdoors by request on their patio with cover and open sky. First visit under cover, due to the high noon sun for a burger lunch for two. Our second visit, on a beautiful week night, with our pup, so you could say dinner for 2.5. Graciously welcomed and seated a table with an umbrella. The unexpected solo musician was just warming-up as we chilled down with beverages, including a pup bowl of water (or what appeared to be water - DOH). We enjoyed a calamari starter and two nicely presented plates Roast chicken, bacon, Mac 'n cheese and a very tantalizing roast Brussels sprout salad. Since is was an unplanned stop we allowed our 0.5 to enjoy some Mac, cheese, bacon, & chicken. The Barn is one restaurant (well every restaurant owned by this fabulous family) in the Farmington Valley that you can not go wrong with. They have ample outdoor seating, that is very nicely decorated, their main floor and and upstairs room that my family has used for large parties. I don't recall ever having a meal or adult beverage at The Barn that I didn't enjoy. The food is always fresh and presented/plated beautifully, and usually cooked exactly as you ordered it. Today we met for brunch. At my brothers recommendation I ordered the Chicken & Waffles. I'd never ordered this combination and I have to say, I understand it. It's like pancakes w sausage.. yummy. Everyone enjoyed their meals, the only complaint was that the eggs in the eggs Benedict were over cooked and not runny. Other than that the food was delicious. You will not be disappointed when choosing The Barn for breakfast, lunch or dinner! One complaint we had was that a couple brought in their two large tropical birds (see photo). While initially we were thrilled to see these beautiful birds, they quickly became a nuisance. Every 5-10 minutes they startled everyone with their obnoxiously loud squawking. To be clear, we all LOVE animals and I'm glad they weren't mistreated. But if our small dogs had loudly barked all throughout dinner we would not ever bring them to dine with us, out of respect for other patrons. read more

Missed this place last time we were in town, but finally made it. Seemed full of locals on a Monday night, which I guess is to be expected. Food was great, I had the cast iron chicken and we shared a few appetizers. This may just be personal taste, I didn't need our server to give us almost a full bio of The Barn including ownership info etc.. Seemed a little excessive. Maybe it's part of a script for new customers? Also, if you're going to ask someone how they like they food, maybe you should wait until they've tasted it. Gotta love a place that serves brunch lunch and dinner during brunch hours. We came here for Sunday brunch and had a great time. This was our first time coming to this establishment and It was easy to locate from the main road and plenty of parking available both in front of building snd in the back. There is a very nice outdoor dining area but we choose to sit indoors as it was a bit too warm out. The service was great and our server was very attentive and supper helpful for those of us who are indecisive and can not make up our minds what drinks or entrees we want( ahem). The brunch cocktails/drinks were good as were our meals. We will definitely come back again maybe for dinner. read more

Great good, great atmosphere. Only thing was, sun was in my eyes the whole time and I wasn't offered an umbrella move or any accommodations.

Overall we had a great experience here and would probably come back if we were looking for a night out close by. We sat outside, which was nice but the view was just a street and a CVS. They do try to make it nice with a lot of planters and flowers. Also, a pub is nearby so if you don't mind music you can hear the band if one is playing outside. I ordered a cheeseburger which actually came cooked perfectly. Medium rare. However I wish I realized that it literally only came with cheese. It was very plain. A pickle at least would have been nice. The sweet potato fries were really good. My husband had the steak and cheese wrap which he enjoyed very much. The cocktails were substantial- we ordered the monthly gin and tonic and it was quite big so we split it. The server was very attentive to our needs and very nice. We had a lovely dinner there on Mother's Day. The service was terrific, the food was delicious, and we had a nice table on the patio after being seated right away when we arrived for our reservation. Went to this place on a Saturday afternoon/evening, interior was quite nice and the outdoor patio area was also pretty nice!! The table we sat on was wobbly, but was quickly remedied! I ordered the grilled ribeye, it came with green beans and a smashed potato cake. My fiancé ordered the paella. The ribeye was a bit of an interesting experience. I ordered mine medium, like I always do, so I expected a slightly pink center. When I had cut into it, the initial cut was more on the medium rare-rare side (pretty bright center). I cut into a different part, and this time it was more like a well-done/medium-well!! I started to try it out to see if it at least tasted well, and to my delight it did!! Definitely well-seasoned, no tough chews. However, for almost $50 I would've preferred it to be at the temp I requested and not have it were two sides at different temps. The green beans were okay, nice seasoning on it but could've been done a little longer. The smashed potato cake was surprisingly tasty, not to say I expected it to taste bad but perhaps I didn't think I was going to be that pleased about it. It wasn't too heavy or greasy which was one of my initial fears. Potato was made well, and it had some cheese in it for an added flavor! As for the paella, my fiancé thought hers was pretty baseline. The shrimp needed some more love, the overall protein ratio wasn't the best. The rice itself was pretty well-seasoned and had nice texture to it. Our waiter was very kind, but they neglected to ask for a drink refill which I thought was sort of lame. I also let them know about the steak, hopefully they were able to make notes of that in the kitchen. Overall the ambiance was pretty great, service pretty good for the most part! I do think the food was overpriced for how it came out and the inconsistencies that were apparent. We had brunch on a Saturday and we were seated right away. The staff, hostess and our server, were both very friendly and made sure we were seated in a corner table because we have two little kids who can otherwise encroach into other diners' space. They brought out crayons and children's menu, which was an unexpected surprise for a place a little more upscale. The ambiance is casual but with a sophisticated edge in decor. The portions of each dish ordered (chicken and waffles, Granby bear, and children's menu scrambled eggs) were hearty. Unfortunately, some of the potatoes were undercooked, but well seasoned, and the specialty drinks/cocktails were missing a few ingredients and was remade for us. I absolutely would go back and would recommend it to others. I think it's really a cute place for a casual date if you're looking to dress up just a bit. read more
