Enjoying a Bravo Citra NESIPA, New England Style India Pale Ale. That's a mouth full! But so good.
    Daryl P.

Haven't been here in a while and decided to drop by for a pint, calamari and growler before continuing with my travels. I opted out of a flight as I had errands to run and got a pint instead of the Bravo Citra which had good blended flavors. Not too overpowering of hops but still offered delicious flavor. Grabbed some deep fried calamari with some added deep fried pepperoncini peppers mixed in between with aoili mayo and marinara sauce to switch between. The bar was spacious so between the tables and felt safe during these difficult times and during the day slowly got busier with lunch time just around the corner for the one bartender. Regardless he took care of me and the other times making time to discuss the day's brew as well as offer options for the growler that I ended up filling up with the Abijah Rowe IPA that I enjoyed with my Dad.

CHB Cream Ale, on tap. Very enjoyable...what you want from a cream ale!

Solid 4.5! Saturday, 04/02/22 5:32pm We were on the Connecticut Beer Trail up in Granby with 3 breweries on our minds. The CHB was our second stop planned on this trip because we had hoped to grab a quick/light dinner before hitting up an ice cream parlor. Steve gets the beer, I wait for the ice cream! (Why doesn't CT have an ice cream trail?). BEER (...is reviewed by Steve) "CBH Sunny Side IPA A super juicy, lighter version of a New England style IPA. 6.7% ABV, 26 IBU" Short $5.25 on tap. Solid NEIPA...a very good example of this style. Not too juicy with a very nice lasting bitter finish. 7.5 Would drink it again. "CBH Cream Ale A crisp, light pale ale with notes of maize. 4.9% ABV, 9.3 IBU" Pint $6 on tap. Crisp and simple. Could drink this all day long on a hot summer day. Refreshing. Not every brewer makes a cream ale, so I was happy to find this. I always try the cream ales when I can find them. Solid 8. Would drink it again (and again). FOOD We sat at the bar and were promptly greeted by the bartender, Vicky. We wanted to read the menu first before making the decision to stay...I am GF and had only a few options here. I had really only three choices: salads, burger/no bun...which they will happily prepare with lettuce, or chicken wings. The chicken wings were gluten free however they are cooked in the same oil as non GF items. (This information was supplied on the menu...always a good sign!) I did decide to go with the chicken wings with a lemon pepper rub. Steve ordered the buffalo wings. ($10 each for 6 wings, celery and blue cheese). The wings were HOT, well cooked. The lemon pepper rubbed wings were evenly coated and crispy and very tasty. IMHO even better than the rubbed wings I have had many times at Hot Rods in New London. The celery was fresh and crisp and we both remarked that the blue cheese dip/sauce was perfect. No clumpy big bits of cheese...very well blended and worked to coat the wings without a sloppy slid-y mess. I also had an unsweetened iced tea ($2.50). The Buffalo wings were mild with a 'Buffalo-like' sauce (says someone who grew up in the region) and very well cooked, covered and tasty. Steve remarked that the blue cheese LOOKED like ranch but he was happily surprised to find a really complimentary style of blue cheese dipping sauce. We would recommend the wings all day long, but if you are Celiac, perhaps reconsider your choice. I am Celiac, but took the chance and had no issues. Next time, I will probably try a salad...after seeing one served (generous and fresh in appearance). The burgers also looked good. SERVICE Excellent service at the bar. Observing staff smiling, and helping each other out was pleasant. Staff was aware of patrons entering and greeted them. Just as we were leaving, we talked a minute with Vicky who was our bartender. She is working her 16th year at CHB! They are lucky to have her. We talked about the CT Beer trail app vs the paper passports...we and Vicky thought they were much more fun when we had to get a physical stamp/sticker. Just a very pleasant conversation with a smart lady. ATMOSPHERE Just to mention the seating: the bar is nice and wide, clean and uncluttered. We had plenty of room. They do have a larger dining area, as well. It was not super busy (around 5:32pm) and we had plenty of social distancing space. The bar chairs are wooden with backs, no cushions. Good lighting, music was not annoying and conversing was easy. Clean (non gender neutral) bathrooms. All in all, a really super experience. We walked in with doubts (for food choices) and left telling each other we will be sure to return! "

I stopped by here this past Tuesday evening with a coworker for dinner. We weren't exactly planning on coming here but whenever I saw on Yelp that there was a brewery with food near to where we were, that's where we headed. We arrived to the Cambridge House just as a storm was coming in. That rendered their otherwise nice looking deck seating out of the question and we headed inside to take a seat at the bar. In the bar area there was a giant U shaped bar as well as a ton of high top tables and TVs all over the place. One wall had a chalkboard menu with their taps as well as their guest taps. Finally behind the bar and through some windows you could see their brewing equipment. As I often do whenever I visit a new brewery, I decided to have a sampler here. For $7 you get to choose 5 beers and I went with the Kolsch, IPA, Session IPA, Double IPA and Irish Red. I drank them in that order too with the Kolsch being a nice and light sipper and the IPA being extremely hop forward and unrelenting. The session IPA had a weird flavor which I couldn't place while the double IPA was smooth going down with a very bitter finish. Last but certainly not least was the Irish Red which surprisingly was my favorite beer here. It started off tasting a little bit more like a darker colored beer before finishing with a complex taste. The for my dinner entree I decided to go a little healthier than normal and chose the shaved brussels sprouts salad. The menu described it as shaved Brussels sprouts, endive, baby kale, pear slices, dried cranberries and pecan with a lemon agave vinaigrette. Whenever it came out the first thing that I noticed was that the brussel sprouts did not looked shaved and rather chopped. Not necessarily a big deal in flavor or texture and I only mention because shaved brussel sprouts was the name in the menu. As for the taste of the salad, I thought it was rather sweet and I can't really say that I enjoyed it very much. Yes it felt healthy and I loved the pear slices and pecans but it left me wishing it was more than it was. The bottom line for me is that I might stop by here again in the future. While my salad missed the mark, the beer was decent and our bartender very friendly.

6 Tequila Lime wings, at the Cambridge House Brew Pub in Granby, CT.

1st Timers yesterday to the Cambridge Brew Pub, we arrived just after Noontime on a Sunday. Place was moderately crowded. I didn't think the noise level was excessive, football was on the various TV's. My wife started off with a cup of the broccoli & cheddar soup and I had six of the Tequila Lima flavored wings. My wife liked her soup, but we both thought the wings were bland. Perhaps a different flavor would have been a better choice, the wings themselves did have a nice, crispy skin. For drinks, my wife had a Bloody Mary (which she thought was just OK), and I ordered a pumpkin ale (which I liked). For our meals, my wife ordered chicken salad sandwich and I went with the Fried Fish & Chips. My wife thought her sandwich was good, it had candied walnuts, cranberries and celery in it. She was slightly disappointed though, because her dish did not come with fries or chips (so she picked off my plate). I thought my fried fish was just average, and it was pretty greasy. Fries & coleslaw were decent thought. Service was excellent, our waiter was friendly & attentive. Overall, we felt our meals at the Cambridge Brew Pub were very average. I'd be up to coming back, think I'd opt for a burger next time.

I don't review CT breweries as a matter of principle but since we had food here I will do this brew pub. We stopped to try the brew but with the food mandate we ordered. The fried pickles and pretzels. Both were good they suited the need. Have been here before I had wings another time a burger. Never amazing but good honest pub fare.

Went back tonight and had a very enjoyable dinner. We sat in the rear dining room on the first floor, the decibel level was quite a bit more comfortable than what we experienced in the large open dining room. I started with a CBH Oktoberfest ($4.50)- it was a delicious middle of the road strength beer. My wife tried a sample of the CBH Honey Tripel, but she didnt care for the taste and also went for an Oktoberfest. We ordered a Brewmaster Cheddar Burger at $9.50 it was a good value- a really large juicy burger with fries and all the trimmings. I went for a small Caesar salad ($5) and an order of Mussels in Red Marinara sauce ($10). The Mussels were very good, except for one stubborn crustacean that refused to open, and the accompanying tomato broth was top notch. It was served with a very generous portion of four freshly baked dinner rolls with a ramekin of garlic butter - yumzers!! The beer was excellent, service was OK- not super attentive but super nice, the meal with 2 beers was a very reasonable $36.
