Also ordered a side of guacamole. The star of the show however was the blackberry sangria.. Atmosphere was really cozy and loved all the beautiful paintings on the wall. Food came out really fast. They had a table with all the fixings. We had a good time. On our way out, picked another bottle of wine. Always so many choices. So excited for the coming season of events. Will definitely be back. A great place for good wine, quiet surroundings and tasty nibbles. Highly recommend everyone visit.

White Silo Farm & Winery is a rustic farm, vineyard & winery that opened in Sherman, Connecticut in…read more2000. It was opened by the Gorman family, including Ralph and his son Eric. Ralph has a degree in engineering and had previously worked as an engineer, a chemistry teacher, a physics professor and a consultant. He grew bored, wanted to try something different, so in 1985 he decided to purchase a 17-acre parcel of farmland in Sherman that had previously been part of Upland Pastures dairy farm. The Gorman family intended to continue the farming tradition and preserve the land for generations to come. They planted crops of raspberries, blackberries and rhubarb. The circa 1780 dairy barn and silo were completely renovated and converted into a tasting room and production area. By 2000, the winery opened to the public. The initial wines made available were fruit (non-grape) wines, crafted from their own farm-grown fruit. The Gorman family planted their first grape vineyard in 2010 and additional grapevines were planted in 2016. My wife and I visited White Silo this past weekend. To celebrate my wife's birthday, I took her for a drive in Western Connecticut to see the fall foliage and explore some wineries. This was our first visit to White Silo and it was our first stop of the day. The property was lovely and the interior of the barn was very charming. We decided to order some wine flights so we could sample several of the winery's offerings. Between the two of us, we sampled their "Upland Pastures White", "Rhubarb", "Sparkling Red Raspberry", "Upland Pastures Red", "Farm White", "Upland Pastures Rosé", "Blackberry Sangria", and their "Apple Cider". We decided to purchase bottles of our two favorites (the "Sparkling Red Raspberry" and the "Apple Cider") to take home. White Silo also offers light food options as well. We shared the winery's "Hummus Plate" and "Gourmet Boxed Lunch" while we enjoyed our flights. The boxed lunch, which changes seasonally, included a turkey sandwich made with arugula and White Silo mustard, quinoa salad, a mini cheese plate, mixed nuts, and a chocolate turtle bar. It was the perfect amount of food to enjoy with our wine samples. Overall we had a very relaxing experience at White Silo, complete with a live musician. We highly recommend White Silo to visitors traveling through this quiet part of the state. We hope to be back!

David, our friendly, knowledgeable host and waiter, made suggestions and we each ordered a salad and the Rigatoni Bolognese. The portions were perfect, not outrageously large, but enough to bring some home for another meal. The Spinach Salad with Pancetta, Candied Walnuts, Gorgonzola, Onion, Craisins, and Lemon-Shallot Dressing was crisp, fresh, and delectable. The bolognese was absolutely delicious and as good as any bolognese offered at an Italian eatery in Boston's North End. We highly recommend Bottega if you leave near Bethel, CT or if you're just passing through the area.

Nice selection of drinks. Waitress was very nice and patient. Gave us lots of time to decide. She brought some bread with oil which was good. We started with fried calamari. Delicious! Next time I would ask for lemon. I ordered the chicken franchise and my husband chose the chicken Milanese. We each enjoyed our entrees. We couldn't finish so brought home the leftovers. We arrived around 6pm, to a fairly empty dining room. When we left, the room had filled out more. Can easily see this place be hopping on the weekend. Waitress was really nice! Recommend Bottega to everyone. We will definitely be back.

The ceiling was leaking rain. But all in all, everything was okay. I would go back again to try it in a smaller group and see. If so, I would leave a follow up review. That said, I would have normally reviewed this one negatively, but as I said, I was in a large party and had a great time. So it's difficult for me to review this spot down in any way as a result. Service was great. Ambiance mid bc of the roof. Food mid+ due to pricing and resulting plates. As a recommendation, I would say go there in a smaller group, maybe 6 people TOPS! Everything should be good enough. I would/will go back if the occasion presents, but I wouldn't go back just my wife and I as I believe I know what will be produced. And I believe it will be underwhelming. I think that if this place had a more consistent product, a tighter roof situation (if you're an indoor/outdoor rooftop space it needs to be water tight!), and more menu accountability it would be awesome. But as I write, I don't believe that's the case. Hopefully I find myself there in the coming months with the wife and I can (and would) update this review. Outside of that? It is what it is.
