Stopped here today for lunch and I ordered the big cheeseburger very well done when I got the burger. It came out with red juice dripping it so I brought it back and the gentleman took it back to cook it more. I also ordered a drink without I got ice in it. The girl taking the order does not pay very good attention. when I was standing putting the food on the She was running her hands that have gloves on through her long ponytail so I mentioned this to the cashier and she said well she actually isn't food doesn't make any difference. She's in an area where food and a customer when I got the burger. The second time around it was grizzly and it tasted disgusting. My husband said his burger even have any flavor. It was flat and he didn't like it either so I can rest assured say that we will never be back to this place nor will I ever recommend it? It's too bad it's a cute little place. read more

Driven by this place dozens of times and wasn't sure it sold more than ice cream. So I was surprised with the food options. I also didn't realize how large the place is both inside and out. I thought you could only order outside but you can do it both ways. Outside in the back especially is kid friendly. It was super busy on a Saturday at lunch time so there was a bit of a wait for food which is understandable. They never called out our number and just put the food out but we figured it out quickly. I would say the portions were small but the prices were very reasonable so that balanced it out. Overall a good experience and would return. read more

Went here with my mom and grandma for lunch today. Ordered grilled cheeses and what they call a "BIG Cheeseburger", which instead of having buns, has two pieces of grilled bread, which I thought was totally cool, and we had some delicious ice cream, including a Smores sundae, to finish off our meals. The decor was cool inside, the food, while not 5 star gourmet, was good and filling, prices were good, and we definitely plan on returning back as soon as we can. A "Local Staple" is how my sis referred to Summer House. Burgers, dogs, sandwiches and an ice cream shop- what is not to love? John and I both got burgers and onion rings and I foolishly added mozzarella sticks too.... and a root beer float. I don't know what I was thinking- I was happy and hungry and going for comfort-junk food. I almost finished the root beer float. Ate most of my delicious burger. Shared onion rings with my nieces and John helped with the mozzarella sticks. We sat outside to let the little ones run and play on the wooden train and just enjoyed the sun and brisk air. I've been coming to the Summer House for years, and it's always had the same great food I can rely on every time. Their curly fries are a must! If you're visiting in the summer they have excellent icecream, crisp and colorful salads and the all American hot dogs and hamburgers. If you're coming in the winter, warm up with a tomato soup and grilled cheese. Yum! Summer nights aren't the same without ending the evening with an ice cream cone. I was looking to try a new local ice cream spot and I heard good things about Summer House. The options go beyond ice cream, offering some basic kid-pleasing fare. Seems like a great spot to bring the family or the team for burgers, dogs, and ice cream. They have a clean and spacious outdoor seating area and extra parking around the back. We ordered from the take out window and found the menu to be a little chaotic and confusing. If you're new like we were, it's hard to decipher what they offer. The menu displays appeared disjointed with no clear logic to the layout and the soft serve options are limited. My husband and I ordered kiddie size soft serve in a dish. Both the quantity of ice cream and price are sensible; we paid less than $5. I got the Orange Creamsicle and twisted it with vanilla, which was great. He ordered a coffee soft serve also twisted with vanilla. We are huge fans of coffee ice cream and this one has a pretty mild coffee flavor comparatively. Because I always associate Summer House with the summer, and because I am so sick of this GD snowy winter, I tried some mind over matter manipulation today and went to Summer House for a cone and tried to "will away" the cold weather and snow. This place is a treasure - its like stepping into a time warp into a small family friendly burger and ice cream shack.The burgers, dogs, grilled sandwiches, clubs and wraps are priced the way Fonzie would have bought them. You'd be hard pressed to find anything here for over $5. But the star here is ice cream in all of its glorious permutations. Hand packed, soft serve,shakes, floats, frappes, coolers, slushes, sundaes, dips-crunch coats-flavor bursts -- you'll be light headed trying to make a choice. I ordered a "small" raspberry chocolate chip frozen yogurt on a sugar cone- and it was embarrassingly huge. Cost me about $3. So go- take a ride into the country to a wonderful small town, be served by an army of young, competent, and friendly smiling faces. This is the single greatest restaurant in Southwick, MA. Maybe even the world. We'll have to see what Guy Fieri says if he ever visits. MY POINT IS- this place is incredible. I've been coming to The Summer House ever since I was a kid and have been consistently impressed ever since. Thankfully, it isn't pure nostalgia that blinds me to the quality of this establishment. The food served here is always excellent, hot, cheap, and served with a pleasant demeanor. The ice cream is amazing and you always go in knowing you can grab a cone of something different every time you go, thanks to regularly changing specials listed below the standard flavors (which is extensive, and keeps regulars coming back for more!). You may have to wait in line for a small bit to get your order in, but overall the staff works harder than any chain fast food place I've ever been to. Leaving one star because I got to Summer House at 9:07 and was very excited to get some ice cream. When I got there, the doors were locked and no one approached us at the screen windows where ice cream was served to tell us they were closed (several people where still inside and they just ignored us at the screen windows). The hours state they are open until 9:30pm on Saturday. Huge disappointment. read more

This restaurant is probably going to lose their license to serve food because workers making ice cream orders have their masks around their chins and were seen touching their noses and face with the same gloves that they used to touch everything involved in the ice cream orders from the spoons, cups, cones and sprinkles. When asked why the worker was not wearing her mask property while touching orders she claimed she doesn't have to be wearing it by law if she isn't interacting with customers. So people can be breathing on what you are about to be eating but only the cashiers need to wear a mask? Stumbled upon this place after going to the beach nearby. I was craving something sugary and refreshing so this place was the perfect spot. The outdoor setting reminds me of the beach walk near my hometown so it definitely feels nostalgic coming here. I tried the sherbet cooler, chicken burger, fries, and swiss mushroom burger. The sherbet cooler is a must-get item if you need a refresher. It's made with sherbet and seltzer. It's a great combination of sweet and fizzy. I got a large and finished it in one sitting. The chicken burger was a little on the dry side, but the mayonnaise made up for it. The swiss mushroom burger was so much better. I loved the buttered crispy toast that it came with. The swiss cheese inside was nice and gooey and the meat was juicy. The fries were of course just as delicious and crispy. We love soft serve season--and we love the Summer House! Great soft serve, big servings, good pricing...it's just one of our fave spots to indulge when we're in the area (and sometimes even to just drive out to). The kids at the window are always friendly, and there's a ton of parking as well as ample seating to kick back and enjoy your sweet treat. Everyone is chatty and smiling because, well, soft serve! I always get a small twist with cherry dip, and the hubby (a purist) gets as much vanilla as they can swirl into a cup. We vacationed on Lake Congamond in July and we passed this cute little place The Summer House on the way, and stopped in for a late lunch. My husband had the burger and I had the chicken burger with onion rings which was light and crispy and fried to perfection! I topped mine off with the best Almond Joy sundae I have ever had. For the past 18 months your service has been slowly going to crap!" I had to repeat the order completely twice and then a third time on a couple of items. Then when the order was ready, it was partially incorrect still! I returned my food. No one said anything to me. I walked away and no one came to the table to ask about the food issues. We left the Summer House after my family finished their lunch to watch the staff hanging around and just staring at us. So now you have my money, your tip you obviously do not deserve and now you have this review. That all said. TRAIN YOUR STAFF TO BE MORE CONSCIOUS OF WHAT THEY ARE DOING!!! Yummmmm. This place was cheap ($15 for lunch for three, $9 for ice cream for three) and soooo good. I took my grandma here yesterday because she loves it and I see why. We both got the light bites which were half a sandwich (tuna for me, turkey for her), a cup of soup (vegetarian Broc Cheddar, omg), and a small soda. My BF got the Big Cheeseburger Melt and a large soda. Kind of confusing to order because I kept looking at the side and I forgot to order the BF fries because they come separate. But seriously, I could eat that broccoli cheese soup forever. And the server says it has no chicken broth. So I am in heaven. The BF was happy with the cheeseburger melt and it was on bread and didn't look too too big. I think he was mostly happy he was getting ice cream later. The dining room was clean and they call your numbers (though kind of softly in the dining room) when your food is ready. We found a seat for gma and she was very happy with her lunch. Afterwards we went outside to order ice cream and sat at one of their numerous picnic tables. I ordered the small peanut butter cup sundae, BF got the banana split, and Gma opted for a kiddie pb cup. BF and Gma were happy but I was a little disappointed by the pb cup sundae. The girl asked what kind of ice cream I wanted (uhh pb cup??) and when I got it, I didn't really taste any separate peanut butter or chocolate or pb cups other than the ice cream with maybe some chocolate sauce and whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry. PB cup sundae says like at least a few smushed Reese's in there. Oh well. The kiddie pb cup was actually quite large for the price and the banana split looked good. One downside is that they don't call ice cream numbers. I moved Gma to a table so she could sit while we waited and waited and waited. Finally the girl called out our whole order because she "didn't know where we went." but she did rescoop the kiddie pb cup because it had melted more than the sundaes. I'm not really sure why the number on your receipt doesn't work outside (unless you order food) but whatever... It was still yummy and the girl was sweet to rescoop for my Gma. read more
