Such a wonderful local gem! This is such a great place for your sweet tooth cravings and treats. It is cash only. The selection and options were out of this world with very reasonable prices! I greatly appreciated the opportunity to sample some of the different flavors before making my decision! I went with the 6 flavor sampler! I got the Oregon Strawberry, Espresso, Coffee Oreo, Mint Chocolate Chip, Madagascar Vanilla, and Jungle Coconut. The Oregon Strawberry and Jungle Coconut were the best - very flavorful and fresh! The service from Rachel and Jackie was PHENOMENAL!! They were so friendly, knowledgeable, and such a joy to talk with. The ambiance is very casual and a few seating areas to sit and enjoy your dessert.

In my top 3 recommended ice cream shops in CT. I've been coming here consistently my entire life. This is a family owned and run ice cream shop for 109 years and counting. They offer an extensive menu of about 50 flavors all home made. They also offer vanilla and chocolate soft serve. They offer seasonal native flavors including apple, blueberry, peach, pumpkin and if you are really lucky cantaloupe. My go to flavors are native blueberry, amaretto cherry, native apple and native cantaloupe (though it's been a few years since they've offered it). This is a cash only shop. Open 7 days a week year round making them a great option when you want ice cream in the winter and many other area shops are closed for the season. Casual atmosphere with a few indoor tables and a few outdoor picnic tables. Allowed to try flavors before selecting your ice cream.

I scream for ice cream too often, so I'm lucky there are choices in CT. Lately Mortensen's has been my top choice! Consistently friendly employees, quality ice cream and a cute atmosphere. Pricing is fair, be warned they are cash only. We have been sticking to soft serve which is a summer favorite but look forward to trying more flavors in the fall. Visit soon and try them all, you won't regret it!

Cash only. Delicious ice cream. They let you sample flavors. Right off a main road and lots of parking. They play good old fashion music

Homemade ice cream that is served at a warm & slightly softened temperature. My family used to own a gelato shop and so I can be slightly picky... and this place is wonderful! My whole family is a fan! My mom loves the banana and blueberry flavors (cannot find these many places)... I tried the Boston blackout and the sea salt caramel crunch in a small cup (note the small cup can be split between two flavors). 4 ice creams are about $30 with 2 cones and 2 cups... :) clean and cute interior and extremely friendly staff. Half gallons for sale in a case! Thank you!

Best ice cream around !!! Ice cream pies, ice cream sandwiches, best soft serve and home made ice cream. Been in business 110 years and family owned . Gluten free, nut free and dairy free options . Always Allergy safe

If you want good ice cream that's ever popular, and all the locals go to, this is the spot for you! Came on a Saturday afternoon with family craving ice cream, and we were not disappointed! We got the Mint Oreo, Cinnamon Churro, and Heath bar. The Mint Oreo was scrumptious, and so was the Churro. The Heath bar was ok, but could be better. Our cashier/scooper was very friendly. They only accept cash, and an ATM is available in the shop, which is very nice. They also have ice cream pints for sale as well. Overall, we were very pleased, and will return.

Mortensen's Ice-cream is a family owned business that has been serving delicious ice cream since 1915. The shop is tiny, but it's pretty cute on the inside. The walls are filled with pictures of the Mortensen family through generations. There's plenty of available seating. The young people working here were very friendly and offered us samples of ice cream to try. I went with Pistachio Walnut. This was a dream combination of the two flavors. You could tell everything is natural, there's no weird colors in this ice cream. There were chunks of walnuts in it. The pistachio flavor was subtle. It was perfectly creamy and delicious! My friend got Sweet Creme and some type of coffee flavor. These were both so delicious! It's good to know that you can get half and half of two flavors here. This family owned business has been making ice cream for 108 years, they seem to know what they're doing. The list of flavors will have you studying it for a while. Be sure to have cash, because that's the only form of payment they accept.

Wow! Highly recommend this place. I had the Oreo and the blackberry ice cream. Their ice cream is so creamy and delicious! There's a lot of parking. It's really popular. There were lots of families sitting inside. Service was fast. They also have some really cute little cows - they're toys. If you're anywhere near them stop by!

I returned to Mortensen's, our local ice cream shop of choice and I took pics this time. Still a 5 for us. Two random facts: 1. I call my favorite Ice Cream Sundae concept "Closing the Triangle." Mint and chocolate taste great. Chocolate and peanut butter taste great. By ordering Mint Oreo, Reece's Pieces, Hot Fudge and Peanut Butter Sauce, I'm combining mint and peanut butter to "Close the Triangle". Hasn't caught on in the Decades I've been touting it. Mortensen's makes a great one for me. 2. My almost 9 yo son asked for a scoop of Cookies & Cream and a scoop of vanilla in his Sundae tonight. I tried to tell him that the vanilla was redundant since Cookies & Cream has a vanilla base. He wouldn't budge. Let's just say his stock is down for future Yelp Elite.

    Strawberry cone
    Megan K.

I was a bit disappointed, to be honest. I was a little taken aback that I was told I couldn't get toppings put on my cone, so that really honestly ruined a lot of it for me since any other place I go to allows me to put toppings on my cones. The strawberry flavor then of the cone itself was also disappointing, it was a fake jello taste almost, so that also was a total let down. Not sure if I'll be back to give it another go or not.

The service was fast & friendly, and we each for 3 scoops each, plus hot fudge. The Ice cream was cold & sweet, but frankly not that good. Neither of us could identify the different flavors. The only way we could identify the Nutella was because we both got it. It resembled a light mocha with chocolate chunks, but tasted milky. Meh!! I also tried the Chocolate Peanut Butter & the Pina Colada with Rum. No complaints on the Peanut Butter, but I couldn't even tasted the Pina Colada. Besides the Nutella, my friend got the Heavenly Chocolate & the Butter Pecan. She had the same complaint as me, the Butter Pecan stood out from the others, but only because of the nuts. She said it was cold & sweet, but meh as well. The summer staff was sweet, but I would not come back here for the ice cream, not with so many other places with great flavors. Happy hunting.. PS. These are supposedly the same size..

It's in the Old Wethersfield part of time, and if you haven't been there, its definitely a sweet place to park your car, go for a stroll, and check out the shops on (you guessed it,) Main Street. Main Street Creamery is a blue building with a few indoor tables and outdoor seating. We saw big trays of cookies, brownies and macarons on their counters, but of course the real star of a place with "Creamery" in their name is their ice cream, and they sure knock ice cream out of the park. Hard ice cream, frozen yogurts, sorbet, sherbet, Milk Shakes, Malts, Ice Cream Floats, Razzles, and Sherbet Coolers are on the menu. Want to bling out your ice cream with some extras? How about over 20 toppings to pile onto your dish? Among their over 50 hard ice cream flavors are some intriguing ones and some clever names, like Nerds Explosion, Espresso Ripple Bean, Coconut Candy Bar, InstaGRAHAM, Apple Caramel Crumb, Pumpkin Gingersnap, and three Peanut Butter based flavors - PB Nightmare, PB Dream, and PB Oreo. Ice cream cups range from $5 to $8, and we both went with a small for $6. Even though they were advertised to include one scoop, our friendly young scooper gladly offered to include two flavors in each small cup, and between you and me, it sure seemed like she exceeded that "one scoop" limit. Our four flavors included Coconut Candy Bar, PB Dream, White Russian, and Black Raspberry Oreo. Our first impressions were that #1 the ice cream was very smooth and creamy, with zero traces of ice crystals, #2 the flavors were fantastic, and #3 we were spooning up some of the very best ice cream we've had in a while. We were very glad we finally checked out Main Street Creamery. Sitting on a bench on a beautiful summer day in a scenic small-town street, while eating some great ice cream was one of the real seasonal pleasures of life. Go check it out and enjoy. PRO TIPS Cash or Venmo only, no credit cards. There is an ATM on site. Don't overlook their freezer with Pup Cups, pints, and ice cream pies

That often leads to a subtlety that renders it nearly, if not entirely, undetectable. Their lemon basil sorbetto was also delicious and extremely bright/refreshing.
