This Carvel is way more overpriced than other Carvel's. I got a kiddie size cup soft serve and it was $1.49 to add less than a teaspoon of sprinkles!! The sprinkles only covered half my ice cream too. Other locations are 79 cents for toppings. This location also doesn't look very clean. The lights were off and they were only turned on once we walked inside, which I thought was strange. I usually think most chains are the same, but not this one. FIRST TIME HERE It took us a couple minutes to order because it was our first time here & the person that took care of us seemed like she didn't want to be there / wasnt the best encounter. I ordered... a cookie dough ice cream, the ice cream barely had any cookie dough. A coke, the drink didn't even taste like coke, so I'm guessing the machines haven't been cleaned in a while. This is probably one of the saddest carvels I have ever been to. No one seems like they want to work there and the ice cream is nothing special. I got a vanilla soft serve with sprinkles that melted as soon as it got into the cone and it wasn't even that hot out. I would just drive somewhere else instead if I wanted ice cream because it's not worth it even if ya right in the center of Newington. read more

Walked in and got a Cookie Puss for my bfs bday. The very nice boy who took care of me, offered to write happy birthday on there and personalize it too, which I was not expecting nor did I think there was even room for it, but he did it, and it turned out nice. Being able to walk in, grab a cake, get it personalized, and go was great, I would def come back again for more ice cream cakes! Cookie Puss was so tasty! It's a Carvel! Of course it's great! The staff is so friendly. It has a great vintage vibe, in quaint "downtown" Newington. Small store, but all the goods. No tables outside, but walls that double for benches and are perfect for sitting, and there are always people sitting there with their treats. I love going here for frozen delights. read more

Went to grab 3 small sundaes for my family. One sundae was supposed to be vanilla ice cream but when I brought it home, it turned out to be coconut ice cream with coconut flakes all over it. I brought it all the way back for it to be remade and the staff/manager remade without giving any sort of apology for the inconvenience of going back and forth or any sort of discount for a next visit. This experience has made it less likely for me to visit this Carvel again in the future. read more

I love the ice cream here. I always order the same thing: the Reese's peanut butter sundae dasher. The problem is that it is never made the same way. Last time I had to ask the associate to put in peanut butter. Tonight a different associate added in what I believe is marshmallow. I never know what I'm going to get and it is frustrating. Regardless, it's great ice cream and a friendly staff. There just seems to be a lack of training. read more

I love the icecream & cakes here!! But the owner, Bob of this carvel is one of the rudest employees I have ever delt with, even working in customer service myself. My boyfriend and I went here, wanting to split a small sized icecream. I ordered the icecream IN A CONE specifically so he could have the cone and i could have some in a cup. But, the owner Bob heard us talking about our order and purposely puts our icecream in a cup and throws the cone on top. I asked him, VERY KINDLY, to just put it in a cone how i ordered and paid $6 for. He was extremely rude, saying its impossible to put the icecream into a cone now and that i am "childish" and "do not know anything". I have also been working as an icecream hostess myself for years now and actually do know what in talkin about. After being kicked out of the store and yelled at infront of everyone, i made the cone outside myself with a plastic spoon in 3 seconds. I've gone twice and both times, different people have "helped" me, and no smile or any friendless. This last time the man took my order, didn't ask me if it was to go, but gave it to me without a cover, spoon in, I said, "sorry, it's to go", he said, "fine", and put it in a bag. This place has great icecream, but I have never experienced such racial discrimination by anyone until I met this owner Bob. My brother and I (both African Americans) were waiting in line, just like everyone else. The manager Bob came over to help because there was a long line and literally took the white family behind us even tho we were next. The nice family even said these two are next! but he said ill take you. Everyone looked confused, even the two young teen girls working. A girl then begand to take my order and when going to the counter to grab something, this man Bob whispered something then here ear and then glared right at us!
