What happened? We came to Milkcraft a few years ago. It was vibrant and lively inside, with lots of people trying an assortment of cool and unique flavors. The Vietnamese coffee ice cream was great. We came again today after a nice local lunch, looking for a small sweet treat to end the day. The inside was dirty. The ice cream freezer had years of ice and grime built up on the inside. It was half empty and the flavors remaining were fairly mundane. We tried the most interesting looking one - a milk and cereal creation. It tasted like warm vanilla ice cream with hints of crushed up salty, stale cracker. There are lot of other places in town that offer fun desserts, so we'll go other places next time. read more

Since they removed their liquid nitrogen mixers, they have really gone down hill. The inside just looks dirty and not attractive any more. It's as slow as it was waiting for the liquid nitrogen. The staff seemed more interested in chatting with their friends than taking care of orders. The mexican churro ice cream had a nearly toxic level of cinnamon. It went from a "try once" recommendation to a "would recommend against" read more

Y.u.m.... First time here and the ice cream was delicious. Definitely had a home made feel. The staff was very friendly and let us taste test a few times because there were so many flavor options. Nice little set up to eat inside too. Definitely a place to check out. read more

I haven't been to Millcraft in a few years and it was interesting to find out that they no longer serve the nitrogen mixed ice cream. I was in the area and craving a milkshake so I popped in with a friend. I got a sea salted caramel and Vietnamese milkshake and it was so delicious! Not too thick to where you need a straw, but not overly watery either. I do think the milkshake took a little longer than it should've and there were five people behind the counter but it's not the end of the world. read more

3.5 stars. Milkcraft is an ice cream shop located in CT. They have locations throughout Connecticut. They used to do nitrogen ice cream but I didn't see it when I went. There were a handful of seats. We went on a weekend so there was a short line. There was a couple in front of us taking forever to sample all the ice cream, which I won't fault the workers for the long wait. I decided to get a bubble cone Vietnamnese ice cream. It was good but the bubble cone was too much for me. It would have been better in a cup or small cone. I like the artwork on the walls and it's in a good location. Overall, a decent spot to get ice cream. read more

I got a waffle cone and escaped.. my wallet $12 lighter. The ice cream was soft (which I expected) but on a lukewarm evening, my ice cream quickly melted onto my lap and hands and just everywhere. I think practically speaking, that experience could be improved. Honestly despite the fact it's photograph-able and probably good-looking on social media, I don't think I would come here or EVER get an ice cream in a waffle cone ever again. I say that... but with the following two exceptions: 1. Either it would need to be much smaller or 2. Experience needs to somehow allow somebody to eat it without getting a brain freeze and without it melting everywhere. Note: I don't have photos of the actual ice cream because my hands were occupied with the sticky mess detailed above. Ambiance was nice and staff was pleasant enough. I also do understand West Hartford is trendy but I thought it was overpriced. That's my personal taste and I'm not taking off any stars for this specific point. read more

Milkcraft - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - West Hartford, Connecticut

Milkcraft in West Hartford is my new after-party spot -- and honestly, I can't decide half the time if I'm walking in for ice cream or a cocktail. Saturday night? The music's on point, the place is hopping, and the energy feels like someone snuck a little downtown NYC into Blue Back Square. Let's talk about the S'mores Campfire -- literal toasted marshmallow on top of ice cream. Dangerous. Add a few glasses of wine at Treva beforehand, and suddenly I'm making questionable life choices like, "Sure, a liquid-nitrogen cone at 10 p.m. is absolutely necessary." The best part? After soaking in the buzz, it's just a short walk back to my new place. And every time I do it, I realize maybe -- just maybe -- I was a little dramatic about leaving NYC. Turns out, West Hartford knows how to keep the party going... just with better parking and friendlier faces. Bottom line: Milkcraft is giving me serious "dessert lounge" vibes, and I'm not mad about it. In fact, I'm hooked. read more

My son took me to Milkcraft while we were walking around West Hartford. Here are the things I said, in order: "I'm not really hungry, but you can get something." "Oooh, it looks cool in here...smells yummy, too!" "These flavors! Okay, maybe I'll get something...but what?!" "Bourbon breakfast, please!" I had to end the quotes here because I'm sure some unholy sounds came out as I ate some of the best ice cream I've ever had. I say some of the best because I tried all of my family members' flavors and they were all winners. Also, we live in Connecticut, where there is a lot of great ice cream. Anyway, go to Milkcraft. Long lines? Probably. Expensive? Kind of, but you very much get what you pay for...a transcendent ice cream experience with flavors you won't find elsewhere. read more

I can't believe this place is still open. I waited 18 minutes for a $10 milkshake because they ran out of milk, during which time some dude in a Chipotle shirt walked in and made himself a shake with the ice cream that had been scooped into the blender for me, plus whatever small amount of milk was left. He also helped himself to a bottled soda before walking right past me with my order on his way out. Absolutely wild experience. read more

Good ice cream for the 'gram I am a fan when it comes to milk crafts concept. I enjoy the waffle ala mode known as the Bubblecone. I like their interesting ice cream flavors and anything that uses liquid nitrogen is naturally cool by nature. It's good, inventive ice cream. Tasty but not too pretentious. Pricy, but not extensively so. There's not a lot of dessert locations on that strip, and this is one of the best dessert spots in that area. Worth a trek and a try if you can. read more

I love the flavor options at Milkcraft -- they're creative and even feel somewhat healthy (aside from the sugar, of course). It was easy to find street parking late at night, which was a nice surprise. I'm really glad they stay open so late! Great to find a place that has ice cream flights! With such a good variety of flavors, it was so nice to have an option to get a 4-scoop flight. Would recommend for good ice cream in WeHa and would stop in again if in the area! read more

This place has good ambience. I love the items on the wall, especially the giant mirror. That's really cool. You can take a picture of yourself with your ice cream. The staff were super friendly. It was as if Milkcraft was robbed and the robbers we're trying to play it cool by running the shop. My wife and I ordered and we're on the same ticket yet somehow someone got their order after my wife got hers and before I got mine. When I inquired they had no reason or even an inkling of my in order, apologized and then eventually made my order. Look, the point and draw, gimmick if you will was the liquid nitrogen mixing with the ice cream. There was a none of that tonight and only scooping out of bins. Milkcraft has some of the most interesting flavors and combinations that I have seen from a ice cream shop. The ice cream is being made right in front of you and you can see the liquid nitrogen cover the table behind the counter as you walk in. The staff was super helpful, they offered us samples as well as their suggestion and personal favorites. I ordered a scoop of the strawberry sorbet, and as you can see in the photo, it was a little bit more than what I would call a scoop. I would suggest most people order the single scoop unless they are confident they can finish a larger portion. Overall great experience and I'd highly recommend! read more

Omg!! I learned about this place in another city and never went. This is a very cool little place in a busy area. If you can, pick non-peak times so you can find parking easily. It's on a street with other great places to eat and mainly street parking. We had to circle a bit but eventually found parking. Inside it has a rustic feel and very open so you can see the magic happen which is a treat in my eyes. I like to know how much food is made. The staff were very pleasant and patient while you choose from an overwhelming menu of ice cream goodness. I took the liberty to look at the menu online and quickly picked Bourbon Breakfast that has frosted flakes and real Bourbon in the ice cream. Not a lot but just enough. The waffle cones are made right there and they put them in a holder so it's like you are eating a very tasty breakfast dessert. Very clever! The Red Velvet was amazing also. I will say these are a nice shareable size if you get the waffle cone. I will be back to try others. read more

Really gone down hill. My daughter and I Went in tonight and the building was sweltering. The AC was not working and it was unbearably hot. I felt so bad for the staff. When people in line questioned the temperature they said they thought it was going to be fixed soon. On top of it there was no outdoor seating where the temperature was much more comfortable. They used to have outdoor seating, but they had no tables or chairs outside set up so it was just two or three tables inside, but it was much too uncomfortable and hot to stay in the building. The ice cream inside the cooler area was all softening and really melting. My daughter and I both got the small, one scoop in waffle cones and it came to over $20 for the both of us. I was handed melting ice cream that was not solid! I'd be embarrassed to serve people ice cream at $11 for 1 scoop that was turning to liquid! Lastly, the staff all seemed new and very disorganized and confused. They rang me up for my daughter and my ice cream and then we stood at the end of the counter waiting and nobody was bringing us our ice cream. Nobody was scooping our ice cream and they continued to take other people in line's orders. One person was Taking the orders at the cash register and taking the money and there were like at least four other workers that weren't scooping the ice cream for the people that already gave their orders and paid. I saw them scooping the liquidy ice cream out of the refrigerator area and putting it into containers that they were bringing into a different refrigerator. Then one of the workers dropped the entire big huge tub of ice cream on the floor. She looked like she considered putting it back in, but because people saw she walked into the back with it. I 100% do not trust that she's not going to put that huge tub of ice cream back in the refrigerator. Once the people that saw it happen leave. Very unsanitary, considering it fell on the ground! She did not throw it away. She brought it into the back area. You know that's getting put back in the refrigerator. My daughter finally got her ice cream after we stood waiting even though it wasn't that busy. I continued waiting for mine but all the employees gathered around the register and no one was scooping mine. I had to then ask for mine. I'm telling you they seemed to have no system down for how to handle customers. I won't be back. Much better places elsewhere. read more

Yum yum yum! I've never been to this particular Milkcraft location but I do know how delicious their treats are, having been to the Fairfield one a couple times now. Their ingredients are all nearly the same. I indulged in the sorbet treat in a bubble cone this time. It was delightful and the cold/sweetness of it hit all the right spots in this summer heat! One thing I dislike, which isn't entirely anyone's fault, is that the bubble cone definitely gets soggy if you take forever to eat your ice cream. So chow it down fast! Staff was friendly and speedy. The shop has very limited seating so it's best to just get your ice cream and walk down the streets of Hartford to window shop. COVID19 restrictions: staff wear masks, customers are asked to wear masks, social distancing is enforced, limited capacity inside the shop, a sign is added on the door indicating how many customers are allowed in at a time. read more

I'm way late to the game on this one. I tried Milkcraft for the first time this past Monday. I'd been eyeing the blue ice cream for a while. Cookie Butter Blue- blue speculoos cookies and cream butter. Ok, if you're anything like me, you might also be asking, "What are speculoos?!" I really had no idea when I ordered it and am looking it up right now. Speculoos, as they're called in Belgium, are spiced gingerbread shortcrust cookies that are traditionally made and eaten on St. Nicholas Day and throughout the Christmas holiday season. Ok, now I'm going down a rabbit hole for information-- when is St. Nicholas Day? Is that Christmas? St. Nicholas comes during the night on December 5. On the morning of December 6, Belgian people will find their shoes/stockings filled with gifts and sugary treats. December 6 recognizes the third-century patron Saint Nicholas and the generosity he showed to those around him. He left such a lasting impact that over time his character inspired Santa Claus. Ok...back to the ice cream....lol It was delicious. I ordered it in a bubble cone-a caramelized HONG KONG style waffle made from scratch to order. This blue ice cream was fresh out of the smoking mixer. Nitrogen cold smoke that is. It was definitely a sight to see. The story goes: Milkcraft small batch creamery began with an inspiration from a stroll down a via in Capri, Italy. Their goal was to create ice cream from scratch and express their passion for artisanal flavors. Relationships with local farmers. Pursuit of the purest all natural ingredients. They freeze every scoop to order with food grade Liquid Nitrogen that creates smaller ice crystals when freezing and results in the smoothest possible ice cream. It was all pretty cool. I'd come back and try another flavor for sure. I need to study the menu more first lol read more

I love love love this place!! I went here for the first time last week and I couldn't make up my mind so I bought three concoctions. I got the s'mores, coffee, and the bourbon. The s'mores was rich and chocolateee, the bourbon was just to die for, and a coffee flavor which was very strong. I am addicted! The flavors were so delicious. I didn't get the bubble cone because they weren't coming out good that day. I did get the waffle cone which was delicious. You can also get it in a large size drinking cup. I totally didn't like that they put two huge scoops in the cup and you have to eat one scoop before you can get the next. It would be nice to have them in a bowl side by side so I could taste the flavors together. You definitely have to go if you love ice cream! read more

Who doesn't love this place? I've probably been here 10 times and only now thought of writing a review. Fun for all ages to watch the ice cream being made right in front of your eyes! Typically ice cream is the driving force to go to the ice cream shop, however for me, I'm drawn to their bubble cones. It reminds me of KowKow in Rhode Island. Same type of cone where you can pull off each bubble waffle and combine it with your ice cream. It's made fresh so the aroma itself totally enhances the flavor and my salivation glands. Naturally since I love coffee. My favorite flavor is the Vietnamese coffee. read more

I did not know this place was back! First I'm going to be straight up and say I'm very particular about my ice cream and milk craft satisfies my concerns. I just got the PB&J flavor in a small and it was fine. Good quality ice cream but I didn't really taste the banana or the jelly so that was a little disappointing. You have to try the bubble cones when you go as they are unique and worth trying. It's a small spot so don't really plan on sitting and eating ice cream there. Service is thoroughly unremarkable. As with any ice cream shop it is run primarily by high school age (or at least looking) kids so take that for what you will. read more

A very chic ice cream shop/experience nestled in West Hartford Center. When you walk through the front door, your eyes are immediately drawn to the liquid nitrogen being poured into the stand mixers. The air around condenses causing a fog to form that spills off the counters as if it was water. The interior design is clean and warming. The seating inside is very limited and most of the open space is used as a waiting area while your order is being prepared. There are fewer flavor options than you'll find at some ice cream shops but they are thoughtfully curated and paired with toppings that accentuate the ice cream. You can opt to have the ice cream served in a cup or in a Bubblecone, which is very similar in texture to a Belgian waffle. My two top flavors are the S'mores Campfire, topped with toasted marshmallow cream and graham cracker crumbs, and the Blue Cookie Butter topped with speculoos crumbs. The chocolate ice cream in the S'mores Campfire is rich with a deep cocoa presence - perfect for any chocolate lover. The speculoos ice cream in the Blue Cookie Butter encompasses the flavor or speculoos (some might know this as a Biscoff cookie) marrying together cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cardamom with a buttery cookie base. Unfortunately most times I visit they seem to run out of a flavor or topping (this visit they didn't have any marshmallow topping). Overall, I highly recommend checking this spot out if you're in the area. Just make sure to leave room for desert after eating at one of West Hartford Center's great restaurants. Such an indulgent treat that has a creamier texture that regular ice cream! read more

This makes your mouth so blue, just looking too damn childish to be walking around like that. Also thoughts on the bubble cone, when are you too old for that and why is it 25? Back to the blue ice cream what flavor could that possibly be. Also please answer if your stomach hurt bad and you felt ashamed not for eating it but for ordering it. Milk Craft is specialty nitrogen ice cream, this makes it extra creamy. If you go to this location in the summer, you'll see the line is forever long to just get inside, the seating inside, however is very limited. The vibe inside is quirky, with a really fun chalk work wall and a few nice seating options, and good music. My favorite is to sit at the bar, this is only available to two guests. Getting seating inside during peak season is very unlikely. This place is always filled with teenagers, it's their go to ice cream. They only have a handful of flavors, their most popular is The blue butter cookie, I've had this one before, there is no need for it to be this obnoxious blue, but that's what they do. It's already mixed, it has to stay blue. This is very, very sweet, you can feel the sugar crunch in your teeth, if it was 10 notches less sweet, I'd probably like it better. Their waffle cones are also very popular, they make them as you order. I haven't had one, as they seem very large. The most recent flavor I got is the Sea Salted Caramel. I really enjoyed this one, it was sweet with a little kick of salty, and the dreamiest texture of creamy. It was topped with kettle corn and caramel sauce. This ice cream is very rich, I would never get more then one scoop. I wish they would offer an option smaller then a scoop, maybe a kids scoop. If you're sharing, then it's ok, I usually struggle to finish my one scoop. My friend that I was with got red velvet, and this is a nice option too, a tiny bit less creamy then the one I got, not overly sweet and still pretty original. This place offers unique ice cream, I can see it not being everyone's first choice. I enjoy going here occasionally and trying a new flavor. Be prepared you'll get a lot to handle in your cone or cup, and it'll probably be very sweet. read more

A little over 10 minutes prior to closing the poster bouncer at the door who will tell you that you can't come in. There was not a crowd inside so they could certainly have accommodated more customers without remaining open very long. Apparently, closing time does not mean anything to a customer who gave them the previous five star review. I will not be going back. I will be encouraging my friends not to patronize them either. It is not close to GLASTONBURY to come there and perhaps they don't care if people travel to come to the restaurant. But I care about how I'm treated when I arrive at a restaurant before closing just to take out Ice cream. Friends of mine there are better choices that will treat you better. They have lost one customer; perhaps if you read this, they'll be losing more. Or perhaps they will learn that treating customers well is how you keep a business flourishing. Farewell. read more
