The Vietnamese coffee ice cream was great. We came again today after a nice local lunch, looking for a small sweet treat to end the day. The inside was dirty. The ice cream freezer had years of ice and grime built up on the inside. It was half empty and the flavors remaining were fairly mundane. We tried the most interesting looking one - a milk and cereal creation. It tasted like warm vanilla ice cream with hints of crushed up salty, stale cracker. There are lot of other places in town that offer fun desserts, so we'll go other places next time.

I got the Strawberry and the Brownie Dough. The one scoop in a cup is a very generous portion. This was very chocolatey, with brownie pieces and white chocolate pieces. So tasty, even though chocolate isn't my first pick. The strawberry was your classic, sweet strawberry. I would love to return next month to see what seasonal flavors they would have.

There were about half a dozen benches and tables in the alley, and a like number on the sidewalk on Broad Street. They had fifteen ice cream flavors available, plus two sorbets, two vegan flavors, and a Banana Sugar Free choice. Floats, shakes, coffee blends, sundaes, a cookie sandwich, and a waffle concoction round out their product line. We each had a waffle cone - Butter Crunch (almond candy and butterscotch ice cream) and Caramel Pretzel (Vanilla ice cream with caramel ribbons and sweet and salty chocolate covered pretzel bits). The Caramel Pretzel was mine and it was really good, with a smooth and creamy vanilla base and plenty of those yummy chocolate pretzel bits and pieces. Their ice cream is homemade by the good folks at the Gran-Val Scoop in Granville, MA. Our single scoops on a sugar cone were $5 each.

THE LOCATION Love the seating that they offer. There's a handful of tables with umbrellas but also plenty of really nice and colorful Adirondack chairs. It's very relaxing to sit in them in the nice grassy area and enjoy your ice cream! One thing I will say is I wish they allowed you to tip on credit card purchases. We almost never have cash on us and the young girls working (especially when hustling by themselves!) really deserve tips. I bet they lose out on so many because they aren't able to get it on card purchases from the outdoor walk up window.

My wife and I were visiting a bookstore nearby when we saw the large sign for AC Petersen Farms and became intrigued. This place is pretty large from the outside and the old school signing definitely pulled both of us in. The inside resembles what I vaguely remember of 80's and early 90's diners and it was a very comforting feeling. The menu has a great selection of breakfast and lunch (I don't recall seeing or looking for dinner, but maybe) and it had lots to choose from. I'll be honest, I mainly wanted to just get ice cream but I figured I would be an adult and order an actual meal so I skipped the ice cream and order the tuna melt with french fries on the side. The friendly waitress we had brought us our food relatively quickly and I was very pleased with what I was served. It was a pretty standard diner tuna melt and that's exactly what I wanted. The sandwich tasted really good and the french fries and ketchup I enjoyed on the side did the job. Overall, AC Petersen Farms isn't a complex restaurant because it doesn't need to be. This diner has good food, a comfortable atmosphere, and a friendly staff proudly representing what a Connecticut diner is all about.

They use a mixture of cream, milk, sugar, and other ingredients; this mixture gets poured over a very cold ice pan. They constantly mix/stir it, then flatten it, and roll it up. After, toppings can be added onto it. I had the French toast which was very tasty; it was sweet and extra cold and reminded me of cinnamon toast crunch. I had one topping, the marshmallows, which I don't recommend since it was stale. I also had the taro boba tea sans the boba pearls; they didn't have any but I still had the taro tea and it was good. My toddler had the birthday cake flavored rolled ice cream and he loved it, especially with the m&m and gummy bear toppings. The location was convenient; it was in a plaza with plenty of parking. The employee was friendly. Overall, a good spot to get this type of specialty ice cream, without going to Thailand.

I opened Yelp and found this place. I chose the "Mango Girl," which is listed as having fresh mango. The friendly attendant took a cup of premixed cream, sugar, and whatever else goes into ice cream and some mango and poured it out on what looked like a pizza pan. I wasn't sure what she was up to, but watched in wonder as she went at this mixture with a couple metal spatulas, chopping, mixing, and chopping again (hence the "stir fried ice cream" claim) as the liquid began to freeze. It turns out that the "pizza pan" was wicked cold. She flattened and smoothed out the mixture just before it hardened, and then, scraped it off the pan in neat little rolls, and put about 6 or 7 little rolls in a paper bowl. We then moved to the toppings station where I was told to choose "up to 4" toppings... stuff like white chocolate chips, rice crispy bar, and some Japanese cookies and candies. All in: $8.00 including tax. Very intriguing. Unique for me, but here's the deal: the ice cream just wasn't very good. It was overly sweet and had no distinct flavor. I don't know if it was supposed to be vanilla with mango in it, mango with mango in it, or maybe sweet cream and mango. It was just sweet. Too sweet. No flavor. And, wicked cold. Which is good in concept, but not so good for eating ice cream. It was hard. It crumbled into dry bits when I tried to take a spoonful. So, I was left with not-so-great ice cream that was difficult to eat. As it warmed, it was not-so-good ice cream that was less difficult to eat. I give Icy Rolls a star for the ice cream, a star for the idea and presentation, and a star for being open at 2pm on Sunday.

It was empty at 2 o'clock on a Wednesday afternoon, but someone was ready to help me right away. I needed a minute to decide from their impressive selection of creative flavors, ultimately passing on things like coffee cookie dough & tagalong. The most notable part for me is that they offer a frozen flight for only $7 that is 4 small scoops, a perfect way to try a few different flavors without having to fill up. I hate when you have to spend more to buy extra ice cream you don't want just to get a second or third flavor. I chose the key lime pie, cow tracks, pb & j, and Dubai. The latter was an easy favorite. I appreciated the inclusion of the katafi. I liked all 4, I would just say pb & j was an easy last place. It didn't have as strong a flavor as the others. I wasn't personally as wowed as many foodie friends are, but I did really enjoyed my ice cream. It wasn't overly heavy either, which was great. So I do look forward to going back and trying more!
