Perfectly fine soft serve This is very much a place you take the little ones to for that quick sweet treat. They got that custom mix soft serve machine which is pretty much like a blizzard that they mix flavor concentrate into rather than mix ins. It's a decent quality soft serve base, and the price is reasonable for the area. It's not award winning or great, but it's good enough. I would skip the flavors (lots of them have the extract problem where the concentrate has too much chemicals in it which translates to the ice cream). But it's quick and decent ice cream. read more

Dzen's Ice Cream specializes in many different flavors of soft serve ice cream. The sign says 24 and more flavors... its definitely more. Theres always new flavors to try, although I am a big fan of Peanut Butter. There are always people there, but the service is quick and there is never a long wait. It's the perfect place to relax on a nice hot summer day. They have picnic tables to sit and enjoy on. The only trouble we have is soft serve ice cream tends to melt fast, so it's going to make a mess, so be prepared- especially with those sprinkles. Also, Free Sprinkles! Ice cream isn't good. Down the road at Kloter's Farm is so much better. Dzen has a couple sitting areas but the ice cream isn't worth the price. Service is good. It is a garden nursery so looking at flowers is fun. I wouldn't recommend it or return. So many other places for better ice cream. read more

I saw this place many time while passing through. Finally I stopped by to have an ice cream. They have only soft serve, but a ton of flavors. This place seems to be a local favorite. I went around 7:30 pm and this place was packed. Ice cream was very soft and creamy. It wasn't as flavor ful as hard serve places though. Blueberry was my favorite. Expresso was good as well. Visited this location for some flowers for my porch. The flower pots were gorgeous and full of color. The prices are comparable to Home Depot and lowes. I'd rather purchase from small business. I have no idea what all of these reviewers are talking about. 1) all of the times i've gotten ice cream here it has been amazingly creamy and rich. 2) i've tried blueberry, amaretto, peanut butter and peppermint and all tasted like the flavors they claimed to be. 3) it's ridiculously cheap compared to say friendlys or coldstone. i paid like 8.50 for 2 regular sized cones and a dish. 4) if the size is too big for you, get a kiddie size or don't eat it all. I love this place. It's always crowded and a good place to go on a hot day. As a Connecticut farm, Dzen is everywhere in CT. You can pick your own berries and cut your own Christmas trees as they are wholesale growers of berries, trees, and pumpkins. The retail location in Ellington provides fresh produce in season, flowers, Christmas trees and soft serve ice cream. Ice cream wise, it's just soft serve. After I called and confirmed they were an ice cream shop among other things, I was somewhat disappointed to be informed when I inquired at the window that they are actually only a soft serve shop. I am definitely an ice-cream-over-soft-serve fan, but I tried it out nonetheless. For a soft serve shop, they offer a full menu. I got a small crème de menthe cone which was creamy, tasty, and fulfilling. The cone was as expected. I made a slight mistake in not locating napkins, so definitely do that if you go on a hot 90-degree summer day. Bottom line: Recommended for soft serve by an ice cream fan! After a rough winter and a slow-to-start spring, we had a sunny day in the 60s...and what do people in Connecticut do after a hard winter and spring?? We eat ice cream outside, of course! We get sunshine on our vitamin D starved skin, and we fill our bellies with ice cream, thinking about the promise of oncoming summer. And that is exactly what my husband and I did one recent late-April weekend afternoon. We'd enjoyed hard ice cream elsewhere the weekend before, and we had a hankering for soft serve this particular weekend. We went to Dzen's because they have great portions, fair prices, and delish soft serve. I had a twist (chocolate and vanilla) dipped in cherry dip, served in a cone. My husband, the purist, had a vanilla in a cup, naked (the ice cream, people, the ice cream). Ahhhhh! What a wonderful way to end a "hey-the-sun's-still-out" pre-summer day. So yummy, so creamy. I gave it four stars only because there are just a few tables between the soft serve building and the garden center at which to sit and enjoy your cold confection. I can't vouch for most if the flavors and I'm not going to compare this place to others. The gem on this menu is the peanut butter soft serve. Get a kiddie size with chocolate sprinkles (they're included) and you will leave with a delicious, rich treat. Try to get over that you're being served by teenagers on summer break that are sometimes less than thrilled to be there. That's kind of the scene at local ice creameries. I have driven by here a few times and noticed that along with plants they offer something like 40 different flavors of soft serve ice cream. That sounded interesting so when the heat wave hit last weekend we went over to give it a try. I was extremely disappointed. I don't know how it is possible to mess up ice cream but they have figured it out. I got a vanilla/chocolate twist cone dipped in chocolate. From what I remember the cone was $2.80 and an extra .55 for the chocolate dip. The cone was huge and way more ice cream than I needed. I think they advertised it as being 8 oz., but that isn't really the point. The ice cream had NO discernible flavor. I could not tell the difference between the chocolate and vanilla. Even the chocolate dip didn't really taste like chocolate. I was with two other people, one tried the cheesecake ice cream and another raspberry. The same phenomena existed. Didn't really have much of a flavor. A very disappointing experience and they don't have a large selection of plants either. read more

I don't know what some people are talking about I live around the corner from here and have it a least 3 times a week. I think its so much better than friendly McDonalds or Smyth's. The coconut is amazing. Recently have been getting twist with rainbow sprinkles and they just load them on. And they also load on the ice cream. More likely about to head there now. read more
