You place your order and pay at a table before you go up the steps, the servers inside see your order on camera, and they hand you what you asked for as fast as you can get to the window. Amazing! It was just a little better than OK for me. It was near the home of our hosts on a recent trip and on a hot Sunday afternoon we went out for an ice cream treat. This is clearly a local favorite and it is set up at the entrance to a local family farm. This is where they sort of lost me because I grew up on a farm. These places are never the entertainment for me that they are to others. But I understand the appeal to the local community and the length of the lines to buy ice cream in summer is a supporting proof of that. Sadly they have limited flavors and you cannot see or taste them before choosing, as most all of our ice cream places at home have available. I saw only a few on the list that I would order and chose the coffee flavor, hoping it was light in color and flavor. It was not. This is a problem for the caffeine low tolerance folks so don't choose it if you are one like me. There were few fruit flavors too, which surprised me in summer. The people were nice, the servings ample and the line moved quickly. There is seating at wooden picnic tables which face a fenced area where there are some animals to see. I think city residents would clearly enjoy this part more than I did. They serve cones and cups, but on such a hot day they recommended cups as safer though one of our hosts chose the cone anyway. I might look further for ice cream should we go back again. But the quality was fine and the portions substantial and probably more than I needed anyway. The little farm is so cute. Great place to get a quick sweet treat in Bloomfield. Parking can be a bit challenging if they are busy. Once you place your order, you head to the window to pick up your ice cream. There is so many flavors but my favorite hard ice cream is the toasted almond. Clearly incredible, because there were cars and people everywhere. They took our order while waiting in the line and they have the order process down to a science. We barely made it to the window and our ice cream was already ready. Simple menu but lots of hard ice cream options and HUGE portions. This place is everything you want a farm fresh ice cream stand to be: great traditional flavors with huge portions (albeit at $5 for a small) and friendly quick service. The grape nut ice cream is out of this world good. The young lady that takes your order is very nice and takes your order with a smile. She recommended the grape nut flavor. It was creamy and delicious. I tried to be good and ordered only one scoop. My husband fought mosquitoes and went back to order me a regular size. I'm going to eat that tomorrow. Wear bug repellent, the mosquitoes are vicious. I ended up with three bites within seconds of getting out of the car. I had lavender on my arms, but they bit the back of my ankles. My husband was bitten once. Maybe the owners could put eucalyptus and mint around to keep the blood suckers away. My husband wanted the cheesecake flavor but they no longer had it. In the past, the farm was active with greenhouses and farm animals for enjoy watching while you take a picnic table seat with your treat. Recently on a beautiful spring day, we stopped for a cone and a sundae. The line ran from the window, around the porch, and down the steps into the gravel parking lot. The line moved quickly, besides we were in no rush. My wife ordered a "regular" cone with "Nightmare" ice cream; chocolate and peanut butter ice cream with Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. I went off the usual cone track and requested a "regular" Sundae with a scoop of Banana and a scoop of Coconut, with a drizzle of caramel, whipped cream, and topper cherry. I rubbed my palms together with anticipation! The cone arrived first with a heaping mound of "Nightmare" - WOW. Next, my sundae with passed through the window...in an 8 oz plastic cup. Really? Broken down into thirds, constrained scoop of banana, same size scoop of coconut, the final third whipped cream and cherry with caramel drizzled throughout. Disappointing, to an "Ice-Cream-a-holic" like me. Despite, we enjoy on a picnic bench in back, steeped in sunshine; but "Where are all the animals?" Just a few Dove and Grouse in a pen. We hoped they were all temporarily off for a Day at the Spa. Moving forward, I will revert back to my cone of soft serve or scoops on a suga' cone. read more

This was one of the I've cream spots I brought my kids to this summer. It is a wonderful place and the woman who took our orders was very friendly and wonderful. I ordered the mint chip ice cream which was excellent. My older son got chocolate brownie chip and cookie dough (because he couldn't decide on one flavor, who can blame him!). The younger one ordered vanilla soft serve with gummy bears, they were very generous with the ice cream and the toppings and the gummy bears were raved about. They have a really cute area to sit and enjoy outside with picnic tables, I throughly enjoyed the beautiful flowers. Twenty-eight types of hard ice cream or yogurt, plus soft serve, tons of toppings, shakes, sundaes, even a frozen treat for your poochie - Vanilla ice cream on a dog bone !. I never saw Blueberry Schnapps on any ice cream board before, so of course I had to have me a taste. No booze of course, but a nice mild blueberry ice cream with frozen chips of real blueberries. It's so sweet - literally - to have Bloom Hill a mile away from me. It's insane how even on a dreary, chilly day, the parking lot is packed and the line is at least 10 people deep (triple that on a warm, sunny day). It's right on busy Cottage Hill Road but feels like a little rustic oasis with sheep, chickens, even peacocks hangin out alongside people enjoying their ice cream. Speaking of ice cream, everything is so fresh, creamy and absolutely delicious - the way it should be. I'm a fan of the mint chocolate chip and my husband fawns over whatever peanut butter cup creation they've got going on. We currently live in Bloomfield, so although there are alternatives to fresh made on the premise ice creameries in the county, this is THE closest one to us, and we feel both blessed and cursed for the proximity. Their ice cream is really really really really really really good. Their vanilla soft serve, according to a soft-serve aficionado that is my S/O, is the best he's had in CT. I have been a steady and loyal consumer of the cheesecake ice cream (with strawberries topped ~30% of the time). This summer, I have tried their other flavors: salted caramel, strawberry, black cherry vanilla, banana, lemon pie, rum raisin. They are ALL better than the comparable versions of the high-end freezer section brand ice creams. What I love about this ice cream beyond their flavors (which are also really good, but NOT the most creative/fun) is the texture- when you scoop a spoonful and lift, the ice cream trails with gummy webbing but also like a soft-serve type texture. It's one of the signs of really fresh ice cream. So I was alarmed at the news that they do NOT make their own ice cream here. I wonder where they source it from because it's amazing. There is a newer ice creamery in Bloomfield, not too far from this one, that does make their own, but because they don't have as much turnover compared to Bloom Hill Farm, ironically their ice cream was harder and older. They remain a cash-only business, with an ATM available on premise. Their parking lot is always at least 40% occupied, and the lines in the summer grew to be very long (over 25 parties ahead of us, and over 15 behind). They are quick to service this level of demand. On slower days, they will let you taste test a flavor max two. (Obviously no deal on those long-lined days). Their small outdoor eating area with a few bench/tables have been available for the summer, but their livestock do seem very limited to a few birds. The owner family, old lady, seems to be mentioned in some reviews about not being smiley and nice, but she also does not seem offensive in anyway. We were so happy to see them flourish mid Covid-19, and impressed with the drive-through they made out of their lot last season. The prices of the ice cream are....okay....considering you're getting the real deal and the selection of ice cream flavors is decent for such a small location. There's always a LENGTHY line that stretches all the way to california- no I'm kidding but there usually always a line. Which is alright because the line moves pretty quickly. The topping choices are okay, there could definitely be more to choose from- perhaps that's something I'll suggest next time I go. By far the BEST ice cream place I've ever been to EVER. Bloom Hill Farm is a 20 minute drive from my house and I live next to an ice cream place (voted one of the best in the state) but I will always make the drive to Bloom Hill Farm otherwise I won't eat ice cream (and i LOVE ice cream). The ice cream here is so good that I give 100% of my loyalty here and will not get ice cream anywhere else. I spent a long time trying different ice cream spots because I used to think ice cream is ice cream, its all really the same, right? WRONG. so damn wrong. I get the standard hard scoop chocolate ice cream and it taste the way ice cream should. Its fresh, its real, its the CREAMIEST. I don't even need toppings, because it tastes so good on its own. PLUS, this spot isn't expensive at all. I always get 3 scoops of chocolate on a cone and its around $5. Tell me that's not cheap. The woman who takes my orders is also the sweetest peach. She is so lovely and nice, her service alone makes me want to come here. There are so many different flavors, hard and soft serve, sundaes, milkshakes, cones; unlimited options! They are cash/check only but there's an ATM there. Also, once in a while, there are lines (understandably so, but usually I get lucky and never run into lines). Was a little surprised to hear that they do not make their own ice cream, still we decided to stay and try it! staff let us sample whatever flavors we wanted. Went with cookie dough.
