It is one of the 10 oldest family farms in Connecticut. The farm has essentially been in the Woodford Family throughout its 350+ year existence. The current owner for the past 20+ years is Christopher Carville, whose mother was Janet Woodford Carville. At one time the farm was 350 acres, but today it is a much more manageable 77 acres. The farm used to raise animals and was once an award-winning dairy farm. Today the Pickin' Patch earns a living from its fruits and vegetables. Pumpkins are the farm's biggest crop, but the farm also offers squash, gourds, mums, tomatoes, and other various types of fresh produce. My family and I have visited the Pickin' Patch a couple of times over the years. It's a great place to visit in the Autumn. If you need pumpkins then you will find a huge selection here. You can pick out a pumpkin right outside the country store or you can grab a wheelbarrow and head straight to the Pumpkin Patch to find the most perfect pumpkin. My wife and I had a nice "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown"-themed photo shoot in the pumpkin patch with our son who was dressed as Linus. Afterwards we explored the store where you can find plenty of fresh produce, apple cider, pies, fresh honey, and various jellies, jams and sauces. Bakery Boys food stand is parked at The Pickin' Patch during the Autumn. Customers can get fried dough, deep-fried oreos, apple fritters, donuts, hot chocolate, hot or cold cider, coffee, lemonade, and other tasty treats. We couldn't leave without getting a bag of their delicious apple fritters. The Pickin' Patch is always a great place to visit in Autumn!

They offer hayrides and there was a pumpkin patch; you can pick your own in the field or in the store. There was a garden center and farm store. The farm store had jams, jellies, apples, gourds, cookies, veggies, pumpkins, mums, hot sauces, etc. They had wheelbarrows for you to use, if you're planning to buy a few big pumpkins. They also had an apple fritter/donut/cider stand. I purchased half a dozen of apple fritters for $8; you can add extra cinnamon sugar. Those apple fritters looked like donut holes but tasted like apple donuts, it was very splendid! Overall, a great spot to stop by if you're into the small town farm vibes. There was a beautiful view of the Heublein tower on the hill and the fall foliage. It's the perfect fall activity!

Once you arrive you'll know you're at the right place when you see the giant backwards "EGGS" sign on the front of the red barn. I started by going inside their Egg Room and Farm Store, which is not very big, but does sell farm-fresh eggs, local honey, jams, pork and grass-fed beef, etc. They also have a lot of merchandise/souvenirs with their backwards "EGGS" logo. While you're inside, say hi to the birds, guinea pigs, and baby chickens that are near the register. After looking around the farm store, I went outside to check out the petting zoo. Admission is $8.00, with children under 2 and seniors over 80 being free. You can also buy a cup of grain for $2.00 to feed the animals, or a bucket for $5.00. Flamig Farm has a fairly extensive petting zoo, with pigs, goats, donkeys, sheep, alpaca, llamas, horses, cows, emus, chickens, geese and ducks, and more! You can pet and feed most of the animals, who were very friendly! Keep in mind that the petting zoo is only open from April until mid-November, 9am-5pm. Dogs are also not permitted on the farm unless they are certified Service Dogs with proper paperwork. The farm also offers pony rides for kids on Saturdays/Sundays from 11am-3pm, April through November, weather permitting. It's $5.00 per ride, with an 80-pound weight limit. Tractor rides are also available by reservation, or during the fall on weekends from 11am-3pm, weather permitting. $5.00 per person, and under age 2 is free. During the month of October, the farm offers a "Haunted Walkthrough," and during December they have visits with Santa Clause. Make sure to check their website for dates/hours and to buy tickets in advance. The only staff member I really interacted with was when I bought my ticket to the petting zoo, but she was friendly. Overall Flamig Farm is a great spot to spend an afternoon and make some new animal friends. I would highly recommend checking it out!

The kids had fun feeding the farm animals. I will have to admit I had fun too. There are all sorts of farm animals, such as chickens, cats, dogs, goats, horses, bunnies, pigs and more. I am a cat person and I enjoy looking for the barn cats. The place is pretty clean for a farm and the kids enjoy the tractor ride. All the employees were nice and friendly. At Tulmeadow, I recently had Red Raspberry Chocolate Chip, Marshmallow Toasted Cornflake, Chocolate Raspberry Raspberry Curd and the best flavor I've had this year -- Double Raspberry Crumbcake. The flavors all popped. The use of intensely flavored raspberry curd in a couple of the ice creams was next level. The colors were right on. The texture was top tier. It is still owned an operated by the Wade family. I drove by and saw the huge Wade's sign and a busy parking lot; it was spacious and easy to pull in and out, just becareful with incoming traffic. The outside area had various plants. When I walked inside, it was spacious and a very organized store. They had jams, snacks, produce, pies, baked goods, etc. I was gretted by the friendly employees. On this visit, I purchased strawberry-rhubarb jam, cookies, an onion, and corn muffin. Those were all very fresh and tasty. Everything in the store was fresh looking. I saw the corn after but was already out the door so I'm looking forward to going back for that.

This review is for the purple trail connecting to the Wagner Woods trails…read more George Hall Farm started in 1966; in 1979, it was one of the first farms in Connecticut to be certified organic. They offer educational programs and internships. They grow all types of vegetables such as tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, and specialty crops. They also have honey and eggs. When in season, they have Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) from June to November and are at local farmer's market. On 2014, Simsbury Land Trust preserved some land on the farm; those parts are on Quarry Rd. and Old Farms Rd. The parking area for Wagner Woods was full when I went. There were about 5 parking spots. I decided to park at George Hall's farm, based on the information provided on Simsbury Land Trust's website. There's a kiosk and map showing how to get to Wagner Woods. Parking was on dirt and the Hall trail was a farm road at first; then it leads to power lines then the woods. The trail was blazed purple and it was short. It connected to the blue trail and various of other trails on the Wagner Woods property. It was an easy and enjoyable hike. I look forward to going back and checking out the farm in the summer.
