Updating my review to add the remaining missing star. I just enjoyed my nephew's engagement party at the North House, held in the back old horse stable room (my favorite), and it couldn't have been more magical and understatedly elegant. The way they decorated for the holiday season was perfect. The passed hors d'oeuvres were delicious (especially the stuffed mushrooms and large bacon wrapped sea scallops! And on the buffet the pasta dish was good.. the mini potato knishes were my favorite). The service was friendly and attentive. Well done North House!

Great romantic cozy restaurant! We went for Valentine's Day weekend and it was pretty. We will try to request next time the back room with the fireplace. Highly recommend the beef Wellington and the cookie skillet...delish!

The North House is a quaint and cozy establishment. Despite being short-staffed on Sunday, 3/2, the service was impeccable. Brendan and Matt made our inaugural visit outstanding. There was a full bar and fifteen tables to service. They went to every table and made several rounds to ensure that customers were attended to. I can't believe I have another restaurant to add to my roster!

We had an amazing first experience food wise. Calamari served with hot peppers and oh so fresh. There are no words to describe the short rib served over mashed potatoes and served with crispy onion rings and carrots. There was no need for a knife as the meat was so tender. Service was great. Ambiance leaves a lot to be desired as we were seated in the tavern which had 2 tv screens and was brightly lit. Next time I will be sure to ask to be seated in the room that is pictured on Yelp which is more intimate and dimly lit.

This was genuinely one of the best meals I have had in a long time! I have been dying to try this place every time I drive by and was so glad I finally did. The ambiance is beautiful and relaxed and the food was amazing. So many good options to choose from, I look forward to returning.

We came on a Thursday for dinner with a reservation. We mentioned it was our anniversary and they wrote us a happy anniversary card was a nice touch. My margarita was good, his dirty martini was just OK. The Brussels sprouts were great, same with the whipped ricotta, and big portions! He had the beef Wellington which was perfectly cooked. We sat in the tavern which was a little awkward of a room.. I think the bar and high tops would be better. Service was lacking.. we had two waitresses splitting the job and that didn't work for them as we were consistently forgotten about.

The North House offers a great happy hour! Tuesday through Sundays 3-6pm, they have a great menu of bar bites and drinks! I stopped in with a group of 4 on a Wednesday around 5pm and was able to easily get a table in the bar area. By the time we left it was pretty busy so I would advise to go early if you want to take advantage of happy hour. We tried a variety of bar bites but the best were the pork belly tacos and coconut shrimp! Portions were a bit small for the prices. The drinks were delicious. The Yelp check in offer was a free dessert which was much appreciated. We had the s'mores crème brûlée and cheesecake which were just okay. It seemed only 1 bartender/waitress was managing the whole bar area so service was a bit slow to order more as it got busier but they came by often with water refills and to clear our plates. Overall I'd return for happy hour!

They had two types of pre-cut trees to choose from; there were a few to choose from but we found the perfect tree! They had a vendor onsite making spiked hot chocolate, espresso martini, and various others. The interior of the barn was cozy with plenty of seating. There were plenty of items you can purchase in there, such as soap, honey, ornaments, etc. We got to pet the animals on the farm right outside, my children loved it. "I'm gonna rock it up, I'm gonna rip it up I'm gonna shake…read moreit up, gonna ball it up" (Little Richard) Guess what? When you're having carpeting ripped out of your house to get the wood floors below sanded and refinished, your house becomes unlivable for a few days. Too much sawdust and fumes, let alone the wet stain and polyurethane on the floor (you don't want to leave footprints, right?). So that's why we checked into the Avon Residence Inn for three nights. The hotel was built in 2004 and renovated in 2011. You'll find it on route 202/10 near a major Simsbury intersection with route 44. The rooms and common areas still look great, and the only signs of wear and tear we saw was on the outside painted brick walkways. Many areas had paint worn away, and some had some serious hunks of the bricks missing. We had a very comfortable room (WIFI worked great) - a big living room with am L-shaped sofa, TV, work desk, breakfast nook, a nice little kitchen with appliances and dishes, a good sized bedroom (2nd TV) and bath with one of the best hotel showers I've run across. Weird observation -our bathroom light had the loudest ceiling vent I've ever heard -a definite bummer for anyone else sleeping in the room. They have outdoor basketball hoops, a tennis court, an outdoor pool, and plenty of outdoor seating, plus a fire pit. The included breakfast was excellent - scrambled eggs, sausages, two kinds of breakfast sandwiches, oatmeal, cereal, waffle machine, juices, whole fruit, breads/bagels, yogurt, peanut butter, etc. The only other things I would have liked to see were cut fruit or berries for cereal, single slices of bread, and a selection of pastries or danish. But don't misunderstand me, breakfast was great. The front desk staff during the daytime was very friendly and always had a smile or some chit-chat for us. The Residence Inn by Marriott Hartford Avon came in very handy for us and we enjoyed our stay.

This was not a pleasant experience…read more As I walked in, I smiled and said my friendly hello. Ms. Jennifer smirked and began the check-in process without returning the same level of friendliness. We lived in Avon and now reside in Greenwich so I was looking forward to my quick stay. I tried to make some small talk and mentioned that I had lived at this property for seven months between the sale of our home and moving into our new one. I also explained that I had two separate reservations for consecutive nights and asked if they could be combined. Ms. Jennifer told me I would have to check out in the morning and check back in because one reservation was booked with a free night certificate and the other with points. I explained that I would be leaving the hotel at 4:00 a.m. for major surgery and that my 18-year-old son would remain in the room until I was ready to be picked up afterward. She informed me that because he was under 21, he could not stay in the room alone. She suggested that I complete the check-out and check-in process on my way to the hospital, which was exactly what I was hoping to avoid. During our conversation, she simply placed two bags of peanuts and two bottles of water on the counter without saying they were complimentary or offering any explanation. It felt abrupt and impersonal. She also could clearly see that I was having difficulty walking and had just told her I was there for major surgery. Despite that, we were assigned Room 233, which was quite a distance from the elevator. In addition, the room was a studio rather than the one-bedroom suite I had expected. On our way out to get something to eat, I asked if the hotel was fully booked. She replied, "No, why?" I answered, "Because you couldn't have given us a worse room than the one we received." Her response was simply, "That's how they design them." The entire check-in experience left such a poor impression that I called Marriott and canceled my second night's reservation. Instead, my son stayed with a friend in town. The next morning, when I came to the lobby before leaving for the hospital, no one was at the front desk. While waiting for my Uber, I noticed a woman asleep under a blanket with her feet stretched out in front of the fireplace. I chose not to disturb her, but it certainly added to my concerns about the overall experience and safety. Having lived at this property for seven months in the past, I remember a much higher level of hospitality and customer service. Avon, what happened to the service we used to receive?

There were two very pleasant young folks behind the counter who took my order and placed my entrée and a bag of six macaroons ($5) inside a complimentary tote bag. They asked me to check out the freebies on a table on the way out, so I helped myself to a pen, a pad and a book of matches. The Eggplant Lasagna was plenty big for us to split. It had a nice blanket of mozzarella on top with lots of thinly sliced breaded eggplant, creamy ricotta, and sauce. It was very good, but I think it could have used a bit more sauce. And those macaroons? OUTSTANDING!! Very moist, very soft, very coconutty. The Bee's Knees provided us with very good quality food, a generous quantity for $14, and all things considered an excellent value.
