Dinner in Enfield provided my chance to finally try Collins Creamery. It's located in a cool farm area. Given the very long line for our entire 30 minutes stay, Collins Creamery is clearly very popular. Although it took a while to work through the line, service was efficient when we placed our order. I ordered a scoop of Collins Composte flavor with Rainbow Sprinkles. A sign said Collins Composte features brownie batter and Oreo pieces. It was good, but the base flavor didn't really pop for me. I would have preferred more stuff as well. My wife let me try her cup of coconut chocolate chip with hot fudge sauce. I wouldn't have thought of that order, but it worked. It tasted like a Mounds Bar. The hot fudge sauce was tasty and the ice cream had very good coconut flavor. If we were in the area, we would return. But we have options closer to home that we prefer. Arrived 25 minutes before they closed on a Saturday. The line was long but moved quickly to my surprise. The staff were helpful and quick. The ice cream has a great texture, exactly what you expect from homemade ice cream. The flavors they offer range from basic to creative, offering something for everyone. Although it was getting quite dark and a storm was moving in quickly I got a nice sense of the atmosphere and the setting it is capable of providing. This area is very beautiful and out in the country area of Connecticut. It's located on a cow farm in Enfield Connecticut where you can visit the cows either in the barns or out in the fields depending where they are located when you visit. They have a new building where they serve all the many different home made ice cream along with soft serve ice cream for those that prefer that kind. They also serve milk shakes and other ice cream drinks that you like. The people who wait on you are excellent especially since of the size of crowds they get on the weekends. During the summer when school is out mostly high school age kids work there and they work hard keeping up with the crowds they get. Besides the cows they have some other things that smaller children can play on. There's a slide and a few farm things that they can climb on. The ice cream is fine, but the place is operated by kids that don't have basic customer service skills. I ordered two scoops of ice cream, toasted almond and cookie an cream. I started walking to my car and tasted the scoop an noticed one scoop was chocolate chip. I immediately returned to the window stating I didn't ask for chocolate chip. The tween responded... no joke... "we can't do anything about that because our policy is if you eat it it's yours". I almost lost my mind because of the sheer ignorance of the response. I literally had to argue to get what I clearly asked for. The kid understood that I said cookies and cream, acknowledged her error, and offered no solution because of a clear inability to problem solve. I asked to speak to someone in charge so she went to get another kid with some common sense that gave me a separate bowl with cookies and cream. Completely took the joy out of my first visit. The ice cream here is delicious. I went recently and the unique flavors all sounded so delicious it was hard to choose. I ended up picking a random one and it completely blew me away. The service was okay, it took a bit to make my entire family's order (3-4 minutes) but the taste and texture was just too good for the service to even matter. The shop itself was a little farm house right next to a farm which means it's freshly made ice cream. There's also lots of things to do like giant connect four and more. We were running errands in East Longmeadow and Enfield when the ice cream temptress started to seductively whisper in our ears. She was so persuasive, we couldn't resist her charms. A few minutes later, after consulting the Yelp app, we rolled into the Collins Creamery. What a sweet place! It's on the property of the Powder Hill Farm in a very rural setting, with barns and Holstein cows. The cows were huddled together by a fence and made for a nice photo op. Just be aware that you can't get too close, there is a marker on the approach to the buildings that serves as the line of demarcation. The ice cream shop is in a large white building where you order at the counter. They have 30 ice cream varieties and sell about 20 at a time. Some of the interesting flavors are Caramel Cashew, Tiramisu, Collins Mud, Collins Compost, Root Beer Float, and Cow Chip. They offer 4 varieties of Low Fat/Sugar Free ice creams too, plus soft serve, yogurts, sorbets, sundaes and candy toppings. Two small cones ran us about 7 and a half bucks. I had the Butter Pecan Praline, and it was so good, it seemed impossible to believe it came off the Low Fat Sugar Free menu. Chocolate sprinkles are free! There are quite a few picnic tables on the grounds, so you can sit outside and enjoy your treats. They have one of those photo boards with pictures of cows where your kids can pose behind the cut-outs. The atmosphere is very nice, and the ice cream is reasonably priced. read more

Collins Creamery never disappoints! So many flavors, and all the ones I've tried so far have been great. Plenty of parking, plenty of seating or space to roam around, sit under a tree, or visit a cow. Yea, it smells a little there, but really not an issue after a minute or two. You'll forget all about that when you start drooling over all the flavors, and you'll have no issues devouring the ice cream before it melts. Pretty high milk-fat content, AKA high deliciousness to volume ratio. Good deal for fresh, yummy ice cream, frozen yogurt or sorbet. I had chocolate peanut butter frozen yogurt and tasted just like ice cream! Hubby had tart and sweet lemon sorbet with pieces of lemon doting the scoops, and classic chocolate and black raspberry were devoured quickly!
