Each donut runs about $4.25. A bit pricy if I may say so. We want to try the taiyaki but the machine was down during my visit. Now... the donuts were actually my least favorite. The base of each tasted more like plain fried dough, and the toppings though creative were a bit too sweet for me. I love stopping into Cha Papi when I'm in the area! It has such a chill vibe to sit and enjoy your drink (or ice cream!) and their employees are super nice. Sometimes I need help getting an order to my car and they're always willing to run it out to me if I call or carry it out with me. While they maybe don't have a100 different drink options, what they do have are thoughtful and well made. My go to is usually a strawberry matcha with boba, but I will often get one of their seasonal specials. I love their donuts too! They have fun rotating flavors and theyre so soft with that perfect mochi chew. I usually can't help myself and order one (or two) with my drink, but on Halloween I always get an order that includes one of each because they're sooo cute! Good sweets and treats, pricy Had to pick up some supplies so happened to be in the area. Decided to give this place a try, looked very trendy. There was a slew of fresh mochi donuts, no ice cream so I couldn't get the namesake fish cone. So I opted for the Dubai chocolate strawberries instead. Along with a couple drinks. The drinks were very strong on the sugar, but tasty. Not overly saccharine, but heavy handed for sure. The donuts were light and chewy, topping laden and fresh. The Dubai chocolate strawberries were kind of like a purely decadent fruit parfait with gobs of chocolate and pistachio butter layered throughout. The phyllo dough crunch was a welcome texture, and the strawberries were plump and ripe. The chocolate was not thinned, so it actually set up as we ate it. Made it a little tricky to eat towards the tail end. Pricing was high, the Dubai strawberries were 17 bucks alone. Donuts were pricy, drinks were 6-8 bucks. They definitely charge for the location and the prestige. But the quality is good, just high. It's one of the few dessert dedicated places, and they do a good job. I have been wanting to explore mochi donuts more and more, and after eyeing Cha Papi for quite a while, their Wednesday weekly menu drop somehow found me within minutes of its posting today. I of course took that as a sign to make a quick run over to try the flavor that immediately caught my attention. It is a plaza I was already very familiar with and have been to countless times, so there's plenty of parking. The space is inviting with lots of seating, and the service, while relatively limited in my case being that I simply ordered a donut to go, was very friendly and everything you would hope for. I tried the vanilla ube mochi donut, and I thought it was by far the best mochi donut I have had so far. The donut was light while still have plenty of substance and it feeling like just eating air. It was the right balance of sweet vanilla glaze without being too sweet. The ube bubbles had the tremendous toasty caramely flavor I love from ube. It was a shirt and sweet visit, but I was thrilled, and look forward to many more visits to sample more of their creative flavor combinations! read more

That's because Cha Papi specializes in a rainbow of teas, chais, coffees, matchas, and lattes. But best of all, since July 2023, they sell some of the very best mochi donuts you ever feasted on. These pretty rice flour-based doughnuts are light as a feather, aren't greasy at all, and look, feel, and taste more like an artistic delicacy than a traditional donut. Cha Papi sells a rotating menu of six different flavors with a homemade glaze that is yummy but not sickingly sweet. Today's offerings were Guava Cheesecake, Matcha Oreo, Dulce De Leche Churro, Chocolate Cake, Blueberry Lemon, and Strawberry Funnel Cake. Yeah, you can stop drooling over those flavors. We went with four donuts for a little over $4 apiece. It was rough narrowing down their six choices, but our Final Four were Guava Cheesecake, Matcha Oreo, Chocolate Cake, and Blueberry Lemon. Each one was amazing in its own right, from the Oreo crumbles on the macha to the delicate lemon piping on the blueberry glaze. Cha Papi also serves taiyaki,- quite the decadent dessert. They're a Japanese waffle-like fish-shaped pastry filled with red bean paste or custard and served with soft-serve ice cream and toppings like caramel, chocolate, condensed milk, sprinkles or Oreo crumbles. Maybe next time, we'll give 'em a go. Oh, before I forget, gotta give a shout out to the two sweet young ladies we interacted with and answered our questions about the flavors. I went shopping at A Dong Supermarket and had to stop by this mochi donut shop on the way out. Inside looks clean and inviting. The staff were nice and there were plenty of seating. It looked suspiciously creamy, and I'm thinking, "Please don't let this be milk in my guava tea, we're not about to start this relationship on the wrong foot." Then I took a sip--and HELLO GUAVA. It wasn't that sad, artificial "guava-flavored" imposter I've been burned by before. This was legit: bold flavor, real texture, and straight-up nostalgia. The last time I was in the area, I missed trying this spot. I so happen to be in that area again two Friday's ago & just decided to make a quick stop. Upon entering it was fairly quiet. I began to look at the menu as I'd never been there, didn't look prior to entering. I felt as the staff that was on site that day seemed nice but could've been a bit more welcoming. It was very awkward but I didn't think much of it nor let it bother me. I ended up deciding to just take it to my car instead of sitting inside. I asked the staff what they'd recommend, they provided me with 2 options that are popular. I ended up going with the UBE latte with oat milk & tapioca boba. I very much enjoyed this drink & thought it was really good. Personally I wasn't a fan of the tapioca boba pearls, no bueno... I also decided on trying their mochi donuts, 2 of them because why not? I heard from a family member that their donuts were stale on one of their visits & that they're only good when fresh but everyone's experience is different. Since my initial review I have been to cha papi several times for their drinks and mochi donuts. I have especially enjoyed their matcha lattes and seasonal sakura matcha lattes-- they have a good ratio of matcha to milk, and while sweet they are not too sweet. The donuts are always consistently tasty, and I love their creative rotating weekly menus. I also appreciate the effort the cafe puts into being a third space in our community-- with poetry nights, book clubs and markets and even a little library of books available to read when you visit. Cha Papi is located in the same plaza as A Dong market. There were plenty of parking since it's a big lot. The shop was charming; the ambiance was that of a coffee shop. I wanted to try out the taiyaki soft serve but they said it would take about 10 minutes to cook. I didn't feel like waiting so that will be a next time thing. The taiyaki is a fish shaped soft cone; the soft serve flavors were matcha green tea and ube purple yam. I've had it in Miami and loved it, so looking forward to trying it out here soon. They also serve lattes and milk teas. This time I opted for the raspberry cheesecake mochi donut; wow, that is five stars alone. The chewy and light dough melted in my mouth. It is pricey but I'd say it is worth it ($4.25). Service was quick and friendly. Next time, I want to try out their Ube latte, brown sugar latte, strawberry matcha latte, and taiyaki soft serve. I've always saw this place on my Instagram. I finally was in the area and decided to stop by. I ordered only two donuts but definitely wish I ordered more. I ordered the cinnamon toast crunch and the spirulina glazed Oreo donut. There are a lot of multiple donuts available in many flavors. CONCEPT: With a name like that it comes as no surprise that Cha Papi serves a wide variety of teas. The shop focuses on serving a variety of Asian teas and sweets the couple had experienced in the course of their global travels. LOCATION: A West Hartford strip mall shop brings taiyaki ice cream and mochi donuts to Connecticut residents and visitors. A large parking lot makes a spontaneous stop at the shop effortless, while its proximity to A. Dong market invites an attractive and invigorating treat before grocery shopping. AMBIANCE: The shop is lined with crisp white walls and pale wooden cafe tables that serve as backdrop to the variety of vibrantly colored mochi donuts, Asian specialty beverages, and taiyaki ice creams that are served. MOCHI DONUTS: Mochi donuts originate from Japan, and as the name suggests, share some characteristics of mochi. Like mochi, mochi donuts are composed of highly glutenous rice flour (same rice that brings you "sticky" rice), resulting in a distinctive chewy texture. The mochi donuts served at Cha Papi represent a variety of changing flavors, including Vietnamese Coffee and Blueberry Crumble. However, unlike the intensely flavored glazed donuts I recently experienced at Gracie's Luncheonette, the donuts here are oriented towards appearance. Despite sharing a box of six different mochi donuts with friends ($24), we were hard-pressed to find distinct flavors. I've enjoyed the hot Black Sesame Latte, a speckled gray, nutty concoction that paired well with a Black Sesame mochi donut, yet the variety of beverage types and flavors invites an element of discovery and surprise at each visit. TAIYAKI: Taiyaki are composed of soft serve ice cream that gushes out of the gaping mouth (!) of a fish formed by a waffle iron. This is a riff on the hot Japanese fish-shaped tweets that are filled with bean paste. Flavors include purple Ube and green Matcha tea, with assorted toppings available and a choice of bean paste or custard at the base of the fish-shaped waffle. SERVICE: The shop has been well staffed every time I have visited. Perhaps I lucked out, but this seems to ensure that ordering doesn't feel like an assembly line. The counter staff are enthusiastic about the shop's offerings, so much so I wondered if they were partners in the venture! Each time I visit I find a colleague at the counter is eager to add their own recommendations. TIPS: Adding to the sense of adventure, Cha Papi offers periodic specials. For example, this fall a Pumpkin Spice Brown Sugar Latte was on the menu. Many beverages can be ordered as hot or chilled, with hot being slightly more expensive. Disclaimer: this review is only for their mochi donuts. We got one of each of their mochi donuts - salted egg yolk, milk tea, orange, almond cookie, red bean/sesame, and fortune cookie maple. I'm butchering their more embellished names, heh, but those were the main flavors. Unfortunately the names did not translate into what I actually tasted and the salted egg yolk and fortune cookie maple ones especially tasted like nothing. I was quite sad since normally I really like salted egg items, and this was a huge disappointment. We almost thought that we were confusing it with another flavor, but alas, we were not. On the plus side, the milk tea and orange ones were much stronger flavor-wise. The red bean/sesame and almond cookie ones were too, but I didn't like them as much as the other two. Out of all of them, if I had to reorder I would probably just get the orange. Overall they were quite sweet, and the donut itself (same base for all of them) was a bit greasy and the texture not as good as other mochi donuts I've had before. Sorry to be a two-star downer; perhaps the other items like the drinks and soft-serve are the real stars. There were a few excellent specialty lattes like Strawberry Latte, Ube Latte and Brown Sugar Latte but my go to is always Black Sesame. Cha Papi offers Taiyaki ice cream, I'm going to take a pass on the Taiyaki since its my first time here and am leaning towards a mochi donut. I'm super late to the Cha Papi party but this place is so good that I went back 3 days in one week. (Yes, really. And I brought friends!) My first time I tried the soft serve matcha and ube swirl and it was super cute in the fish cone and tasted delicious. My second time I got the black sesame soft serve and I have been telling anyone who will listen about it. The last time I got a black sesame latte with oat milk and it was just as great as the soft serve. It would be a Jupiter-size big deal if Cha Papi just had Mochi Donuts. But they also have Taiyaki. That's a Sun-size big deal. Because as far as I know, and I try to stay informed about such things, Cha Papi is the first place in CT to have each. The Mochi Donuts have been selling out every day since their Grand Opening last Sunday. I'm one of the lucky people able to get Mochi Donuts on two different occasions. I made my excitement for Cha Papi known on my Food Blog for weeks prior to their opening. That led to me being invited for the Soft Opening a week before the official opening. And I visited on the Monday after the Sunday Grand Opening. I have tried each of Cha Papi's major offerings and here is what I think. The Foodies of Instagram love the appearance of Mochi Donuts. They have a larger beaded appearance (which makes them easy to split among friends) and often have bright colors like Ube purple or Matcha Green. They are made from a glutinous white rice, which gives them a good slightly chewy texture compared to the donuts I usually encounter in US Donut Shops. On my visits, Cha Papi has offered 6 Flavors including Ube, Matcha, Churro, Black Sesame, Funnel Cake and Guava Passion Fruit. They're all good, but the sweet tart Guava Passion Fruit Glaze is my favorite. While the donuts are very good and I'm ecstatic that CT now has them, do not expect a per donut charge similar to most US Donut Shops. While I haven't seen a menu with the cost of the Mochi Donuts, given my final bill for each visit, the cost must be a few dollars for each donut. Taiyaki refers to the soft fish shaped cones that are often filled with something that resembles soft serve. The cone is kind of like a soft waffle minus the grid and crispy outside texture. You can choose a custard or red bean base for the filling, and flavors like Ube and Matcha. You can further top them with sauces, sprinkles, cookie crumbles etc. I've wanted a Taiyaki cone for well over a year, and it did not disappoint. I'm hard-pressed to think of a better soft serve in CT and the cone is delicious and cool. Cha Papi also offers teas. I have had a Mango Ginger Fruit Tea and a Matcha Mango Lattee with Lychee. Both were very good. I will note that the tea portion of the business seems to take a while at this stage, but in fairness to Cha Papi, they are dealing with rarely encountered popularity for a brand new business. I'm told the lines on Opening Day took about three hours to navigate for some. I am happy that Cha Papi has brought Mochi Donuts and Taiyaki to CT. The crew is nice and the inside is very pleasant. Whatever you think about the lines and the donut sell outs at this stage, it'll take some time for the initial curiosity to wear off, and then Cha Papi will probably have a more sustainable business flow. I didn't know much about mochi donuts until a few foodie pages I follow started posting about them and they're arrival in CT. I waited until mid-late August to check out Cha Papi because I kept hearing about their long lines and running out of donuts! I started following them on Instagram, and learned that they change their donut and soft serve selections weekly. I visited on a random weekday around 1:30pm and the place only had a few customers, so the timing was good. There is a one-box limit, and I ordered 4 donuts and their black poppy soft serve. I ate the ice cream and split the donuts with someone else. Everything was good, but I wouldn't recommend doing both the soft serve and donuts at the same time - it was a lot of sugar and my stomach hurt soon after. My favorite part of the donuts was the texture; it reminded me of a croissant and it melted in my mouth. I returned for a second visit a few weeks later (that was this week) because I really wanted to try their ube soft serve. I again went on a weekday afternoon, around 2pm. The ube was awesome! I would return again just to have that. I have yet to try the tayaki. I think I may have to make that my "lunch", since the flavors here are very rich. We stopped in to see the owners Brian and Shirley as they continue to provide excellent treats to the West Hartford community and surrounding suburbs. Located on Shield St right next to A Dong Asian Grocery store it is a prime spot to sip on some bubble tea while shopping for your next meal. The bubble tea was cold, light and flavorful with the matcha not being too overpowering for the rest of the ingredients in the drink. The taiyaki was cute and filled us up by the time we left the store with delicious ube and green tea ice cream. Finally.. finally!!! I've been waiting for this to open for so long. Why?? For the mochi donuts of course... a cross between a donut and a mochi... two of my fav things. This shop is located in the same complex as Cora Cora or A Dong supermarket (both of which I visit frequently) so why not add this to the list.. This place serves East Asian desserts and teas. I didn't see any other desserts on the menu so I'm assuming they only serve mochi donuts and taiyaki. For donut flavors they had matcha, Ube, seasame and more, they switch up flavors weekly, making it my weekly ritual. The taiyaki, a fish-shaped pastry filled with ice cream soft serve like ube, matcha and black sesam The tea is made with a variety of milks and fresh fruit purée. Mochi donuts have finally made it to CT! Easily accessible in the lot with well known Asian grocery store A Dong, makes this the perfect stop for a little treat and some bubble tea! The place is clean and beautifully decorated with spacious seating. I stopped by for a dozen donuts to bring to a family dinner and everyone loved them! We tried all 6 flavors that change weekly so there's always something new to try. I also had a bubble tea which was refreshing and delicious! Service was quick and friendly. I can't believe the line goes out the door! Although I'm not so surprised at all in the week they've been open because they are indeed so so good!! I have been seeing their instagram posts that they run out of donuts around 4pm so get them before then! I am sad that currently there is a 6 donut max per order per person though I completely understand due to demand. They're so so good!! I can't get enough!! read more

Mochi donuts & Taiyaki soft serve has finally arrived in Connecticut. I was so excited for the opening of Cha Papi in West Hartford. I visited on Grand Opening day. I tried a little bit of everything on the menu; Mango Matcha latte, Taiyaki Ube soft serve and mochi donuts. They have a large selection of tea and coffee drinks. I loved my matcha latte because it was not sweet and the matcha had a strong flavor. The mango purée added another depth of flavor and natural sweetness. I tried the Taiyaki filled with red bean and Ube ice cream. This was a fun sweet treat since I added sweetened condensed, rainbow sprinkles and mochi. I have never had a true Taiyaki, but I've had many red bean cakes before. It was so good that I would eat the cake by itself. If you don't know what Ube is it's a purple sweet potato and the flavor is like a deep, nutty, vanilla. I can not recall any other place to get these flavors Lastly, the mochi donuts. This was the first time I ever tried them. I loved the texture; light, airy and chewy. Cha Papi will have weekly donut flavors, but I was able to try the Matcha, Ube Coconut and Passionfuit Guava ones. This is where I failed and wish I got all six flavors. They had Churro, Chocolate Funnel Cake and Black Sesame. Each glaze and topping was unique. The cafe space was surprisingly very large with plenty of tables and chairs set up for you to enjoy. The staff was very helpful with explaining the menu and very quick with getting orders out. I will continue to visit Cha Papi for my Matcha and Ube fix. Next time, I hope to try black sesame flavored items and boba! read more

Such a cute ambience and comfortable seating inside. The staff was very friendly and walked me through the whole process of the flavors and offerings on the menu. I got a half dozen of their mochi donuts and sampled each flavor of this week. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the dirty churro by the time I made my way in but I doubled up on the chocolate chip cookie which was a great idea. That was one of my favorites in addition to the Nutella almond. Other flavors for this week included, earl grey (tasted like tea), Ube-violet (which tasted like coffee to me), and strawberry, which was perfectly sweet. The donuts were so fluffy and made fresh! I already want to go in again to try their taiyaki, which is a fish shaped pastry filled with ice cream! read more

We grabbed some groceries at the Asian super market and noticed Cha Papi. We just had to try it! We never had mochi donuts before and got the Vietnamese Coffee, fruity pepples and blueberry crumble donut. My girls loved it! I got the hot Hojicha matcha latte which had a hint of a nutty flavor. It was really good and gave me a much needed boost of energy. We also got the Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte. It was a masterpiece! We didn't even want to put the straw because the colors were so beautifully layered. Delish!! They also had a red bean fish pastry filled with red beans called Taiyachi. It can be topped with ice cream. Looked good but we had enough sweets for the day. We'll be back to try that and the boba tea! read more

The only place around with mochi donuts! They have rotating donut flavors every week that they share on instagram so you knew what's available before you go! They're perfect to share or eat all on your own but they won't last long that's for sure! Getting a variety of flavors to see what you like is the best choice! I'm a huge fan of the citrus ones (key lime, lemon) and the cookies and cream! There's always interesting flavors to appeal to any pallet (matcha, strawberry, rice cereal, almond joy). All the drinks are delicious as well from coffee to milk tea. Can't wait to try the ice cream next! read more
