I'm a bit of a boba tea snob and I hail from South Florida, I'm just here visiting the area. I didn't expect much from Hartford, CT. I like my boba to be actual tea plus milk and the only sweetness added comes from the boba. So, I was really grateful when I asked about swapping out the powdered milk for liquid milk. They swapped to lactaid, which is my preferred milk for milk tea. They also allowed me to adjust the sweetness and the ice level. I was still skeptical, given the unassuming store front. But they mixed real, actual, brewed tea with the lactaid. Their boba was the perfect size and consistency. I tried their black and jasmine teas and both were perfectly brewed. Tea Break became my favorite bubble tea/boba shopin the Hartford area the minute I took my first sip. I like my bubble tea to actually taste like tea with a hint of creaminess from the milk. That's what Tea Break delivers. My go-to drink is the Classic Pearl Milk Tea (green tea). Add in boba balls or pudding and it's heavenly! Well balanced strength of tea with a little bit of creamy milk flavoring. The pudding and boba are both lightly sweetened so they have a little extra flavor and texture as you drink! When I'm craving something fruity, I can never go wrong with the Passion Fruit Green Tea with half sugar. The reduced sugar is definitely needed, and even recommended on the menu. Take their (and my) word, reduced sugar in their fruit teas is a must. If you get regular sugar, it's still good - just be prepared for it to be very sweet. You have a wider range of toppings with the standard tapioca pearls, jellys and pudding. The line can get long during the busy summer season so plan accordingly. There isn't much room for seating but with the area shops and stores, you are better off walking and sipping. This place is Connecticut's local gem when it comes to bubble tea and drinks. Move over Kung fu tea, cha time, and gong cha! Though big cities have the big chains, I'm always happy to go home to this spot for the things I only know they have. Even family members who moved away from CT to bigger cities with the chains tell me there's nothing like the QQ Happy Family tea they have here, and they miss it! My go to order is QQ Happy Family too, and like it with less ice and less sugar. In the summer I'll switch sometimes to mango ice cream smoothie with boba (made with real ice cream!) and it'll keep me going for hours. This place even has REAL TARO smoothies, basically proving taro drinks are technically not supposed to be purple. This is a very trendy bubble tea place in West Hartford, in the summer at any given time you'll easily find a long line of people waiting to get their bubble tea fix. The teas are better then many other places I've tried. I like the peach and grapefruit fruit teas, they're flavorful and refreshing on a warm day. They're also very sugary, so I don't go often. They're also priced fairly, $4.00 for a small. During the Covid 19 pandemic there is no indoor seating, however generally there are a few tables and bar seating by the window. The people who work here are 16 year old high schoolers. They are quick and do their job efficiently. One is on the register and about three or four others are making teas. There is a good selection of flavors to choose from, milk or fruit tea. I have to say, the inside is messy and needs to be cleaned up, there are random computers, jackets, and notebooks laying around. It looks like the kids who work here are working on their homework between customers. I have never had a fruit tea this delicious. As aforementioned, I am OBSESSED with the mango fruit tea WITH bubbles. I am almost embarrassed by how fast I drink it because it's just that good. There is always amazing flavor, tiny little pieces of tasty mango, and a ton of bubbles (pearls, bobas, whatever you want to call them). It's a small place, 2 tables and 4 stools, very clean and modern feeling, good music, friendly service, etc. I ordered the Taro bubble tea because Taro is something I grew up with having a dad from the Caribbean. This place is great! Plenty of options for bubble tea and a bunch of other teas as well. When I came here I got Taro Bubble Tea of course, oh and by the way this place isn't ONLY bubble tea. But one thing I noticed is that the tapioca pearls here are slightly chewier than anywhere else I've ever had which could be good or bad, just depends on your preference. Anyways, as this place is fairly cheap, well maintained, and staff is very friendly, I'll definitely make a stop here every time I come around. Nice to see some bubble tea competition though, there's Maruichi on the other side of Blueback as well. I have been coming here regularly for years, daily every time I am in town. However, they seemingly now close 15 minutes early and are rude about it, so I'm disappointed in their service. I am giving a one star review since I have been denied service 2 times in the last 3 days, before 7:45pm because they were either "closing soon" or "out of everything". No apology or "I'm sorry" either. I came in at a different time and kindly asked to speak to a manager, to ask if there was anything that could be done, since I had twice traveled out of my way to get there and had gotten nothing, and they offered to take 50 cents off of my $7 tea. Not amazing. Also, still no indoor seating, still have their COVID setup. Story: I traveled to the town center specifically to get my bubble tea from here, but the first time the staff said they were "out of tea". Since I had a gift card, I asked what they were not out of, and they said out of "literally everything is out". It was about 7:45 that day. (Update: 3 days later they confirmed this was not the case, they did have other drinks on the menu that could still be made that were less popular. I don't know why that was said) Again yesterday, they said that they wouldn't be able to serve me since they had a group of ~5 people waiting in line / ordering already, but it was 7:44 and they close at 8pm. They have made my drink in under 1 minute almost every time I'm there so this is surprising. They also don't know if people will order 1 or more (or none) before they order, so I'm surprised they told us to leave the store since they wouldn't serve us, instead of wait at our own risk. I asked today for a manager, and got quite a bit of sass in response to my questions. Notably, "If you come as late as 7:45, theres no guarantee we will have anything to serve, we often run out. Theres nothing we can do, and you shouldn't expect to receive anything if you come that late." I have worked in the town center and went at 7:45pm for 2 years weekly, but only now am I having repeated issues. It's specifically this newer person who I have had a negative experience with in the last 3 interactions, and no one else. read more

One of the better boba places I've found in Connecticut. The portions are pretty good and they don't purposefully overfill the cup with ice like some other places I've tried. The only downside to this place is that some of the flavors are made with powder (taro). I'm personally not a fan of the powder made drinks so I'd stay away from those flavors if you dislike them. Their other options are made fresh so it's not like everything is made with powder. Be sure to ask them if you dislike the powder as well! Staff is quick and friendly. Boba costs 50 cents but you can opt out and pay less. I try to not have too much boba since it's just starch and a bit fattening, but they have very good soft boba. Not much of a seating selection here. But they do have xfinity wifi (free if you have an xfinity account to login to) and some plugs near the tables. I studied here for a little while but it can get loud and they have the TV on as well as music blasting. read more

I'm so excited to find this place! My friend told me that this was his favorite bubble tea place in the area, so it had been on my list of places to try for a while. I stopped by a few days ago and sure enough, they make a great bubble tea! I got a small taro pearl milk tea, and it was wonderful. The tea wasn't too strong, wasn't too sweet, and had perfectly cooked boba. It's definitely one of the best bubble teas I've had in my lifetime. The small really filled me up (much more so than my regular iced chai from Starbucks does), and at $4.20 for a small with boba, it's not much more expensive than Starbucks too. As another reviewer mentioned, I did notice they used a taro powder instead of making it fresh, but it didn't have the gross artificial flavor that most bubble teas from mixes have. They do make fresh flavored milk teas that cost a little more, but I'm perfectly content to pay for the regular. In fact, I'm already planning my next trip to try the honey milk tea. I was the only person in line at the time (a weekday afternoon), so my drink was ready in only a couple of minutes. The cafe itself was clean, and the guy behind the counter was nice. Parking in Blue Back Square is always dicey, but this place is located on a side street before you hit the thick of Blue Back, so you can easily park a block or two away in the neighborhood and get away with not having to fill a meter. I wish they had some outdoor seating, but the place still looks a bit new, so hopefully in time, they'll add to the place. read more

I came here a long time ago with some friends. This holiday season, one of those friends is visiting, and we wanted bubble tea. We decided to hit this place up. The tea is authentic and reminds me of the tea my Chinese friends made for me. I had the Milk Tea with Homemade Pudding (with green jasmine tea), my husband had the Mango Milk Tea with boba, and our friend had the Qq Happy Family Milk Tea which had a little bit of everything. I enjoyed both my husband's and mine. The homemade pudding was good and had a great texture, only slightly sweet. The boba were perfectly cooked; not overdone or under done where the middle is still grainy. Loved them. The Happy Family one was good, but it had too much going on for my tastes. My only suggestion is they increase the seating area. It was chilly, so we wanted to eat inside. There is definitely room for another table or two, which I would love to see them add. An excellent bubble tea shop. Don't let any lines deter you (very popular after-school place)-- it moves very quickly. I always get the matcha, with boba instead of red beans, slightly sweet. It's a huge plus when they let you customize sweetness so finely! Brother had Thai milk tea with boba, which was really great. Brown sugar boba seems to be the most popular one. Staff was really great about mask compliance and enforcement-- until recently, they took it seriously, and that made me and other customers feel safe. And I'm sure it helped them stay open! It was a was a Thursday and swung by to see if they weathered the COVID-19 storm. And I was delighted to see that they did! And of course parking galore! Just 2 people ahead of me. I ordered 2 teas. 1 milk tea and one fruit tea because I just couldn't decide and so I could tell you that they were both delicious!
