Solid fish and chips spot tucked away in a Salem strip mall. Tried the Salmon fish and chips + regular cod, the tartar sauce was some of the best I've ever had! I only wished the salmon was battered like the cod, not in breadcrumbs (particularly with the name of the restaurant) Will be back!

We welcome a new Fish & chips place to town.

This is a new place here in Salem. A good inexpensive fish place is really needed in town. When Skippers closed down and Newport grill shut their doors, it left a gap in our local market. With great hopes and interest I welcome Battered Fish & Chips to town. I'm opening this as a simple please try it out review. With that in mind we want you try a new place and be honest with them when you visit. Honest reviews and return customer service is what makes a good place into a great place. Remember that new businesses will go through growing pains, so please be kind. After Covid, I'm looking forward to seeing this one grow. I will return in a few weeks to write a full review and update their progress. Thank you

    So tender. So delicious.

Food is great. The place is friendly and service is great! It's a small shop but I'm there for the food not to spend an evening out.

This is an order at the counter takeout style place but that was what doing anyways so no worries. Chowder: B-. Fair amount of clams but too much thicker that just took away from the soup as a whole. Disappointed Shellfish platter. I'll rate by the item in the platter Calamari: B+. Nice strips and fried well but no seasoning so just bland Panko shrimp: C. overcooked and no seasoning. Basically tasted like poor frozen box shrimp Oysters: C- Literally could fit on face of a quarter they were so small. And overcooked. I couldn't taste the oyster at all. Overall you can do a lot better

That is the only downside to this place. They have some colorful paint on the wall that was nice. When you come in, you order your food and then go sit down and they will bring it to you. We ended up ordering their 8 piece cod because it's cheaper than ordering 2 four pieces. She was nice enough to separate it for us without us asking. The food came out quick and it was not overly greasy. The cod had a nice batter and had a fresh clean taste. It was still moist and flaky. They were great sized also. As for the fries they came out hot and crisp. Some of the best fries I've had in a long time. The coleslaw was lacking flavor and depth but not a big deal. We got 3 sauces: tartar sauce was very good! The garlic aïoli had great flavor and wasn't overpowering. The ginger lime was very mild and wasn't a good choice in my opinion. They all seemed to be homemade and there were so many choices.

Their ciders are great, I tried the Viking Cherry Cider and loved it so much I bought a six pack to take home, at $18 for 6 it was still absolutely well worth it. For food my coworker got the Fish and Chips, deep fried in beef tallow for those who avoid seed oils, and said it was excellent. I had a caesar salad and fries to go with my cider and it was a lovely meal. This will absolutely be one of our go-to spots when in Salem from now on.

The inside atmosphere is sports bar fabulous plenty of seating for groups or couples. We shared a juicy hazy IPA and an order of scotch eggs while sitting on the patio, which is shaded and comfortable with both picnic tables and bar-top seating. I was thrilled to find that the scotch eggs were not only delicious but also authentically prepared. The yolk was soft and slightly runny, and the crust was perfectly crisp and flavorful. This establishment is a true hidden gem. While the food prices are a little steep, the quality definitely makes it worthwhile. We will be back!

The Frying Scotsman offered various fish options. I have only ordered the Large Battered Cod Fish and Chips (5 stars) because I prefer the classic choice. The quality and quantity were impressive. The large portion was big and shareable. The first time I got it I really thought I got an extra one by mistake. I reheat my leftovers in the oven. I prefer my fish and chips with malt vinegar, but this one doesn't need it. It was seasoned well enough that it was good as is. The delicately crisp batter had just the right thickness that complemented the fish. I prefer skinnier fries, but I liked these thicker and wider cut chips that were like potato wedges. It can sometimes feel greasy, but I'm definitely not counting calories when I indulge in this meal. It appeared to be a one person operation unlike the other food carts. It's been that same nice guy multitasking different orders. It's made to order so there is a brief wait before getting the hot off the fryer fish and chips. This food cart with 4 star service is one of my favorites.

We got their chicken t'sami and their lingcod fish n' chips, which went well with their sweet tea that we ordered. My boyfriend got the huckleberry sweet tea which had a sour and sweetness to it, and I got a regular sweet tea which had this really floral fragrance to it and the sweetness was just right. The fish n' chips were really good, the batter around the fish was golden and crispy, the fish was flaky and soft. So good that my boyfriend ate it while it was piping hot! The fries were perfect and crispy. The owner was so nice and brought out an aioli that tasted so good with the fries (reminded me of the animal sauce from In N' Out). The chicken t'sami was also really good, the chicken was juicy and crispy, and paired well with the pickles and slaw. The ciabatta bread was soft and everything felt so fresh. I would totally get the t'sami again. My boyfriend decided to order their clam chowder as well since that's what everyone else was raving about as well. The clam chowder did not disappoint. It was homey and perfect! We were so full and happy with our visit! They have come a long way, and we will definitely visit again

I don't like or eat fish, I was picking up an order for someone else. Despite my aversion to fish, as I sat alone in the car with the order, I smelled it. It smelled intoxicating. It really got my belly rumbling. However, my fiance, the rightful recipient of the fish and chips; told me it was delicious with a mouthful of halibut. Unprompted. I heard the slaw here was very good. I ate the slaw that came with her order. The slaw is beyond "very good". This is a masterclass in slaw. Bright, fresh, crunchy, and flavorful. This is a mature and civilized slaw. I drank the slaw water at the bottom of the little cup when I was finished. This is embarassing to admit but I don't regret doing this. I would do it again. Encouraged by how delicious the slaw was, I stole a fry from my darling when she was not paying attention. It's not fair to compare a french fry to a bite of serious slaw. But compared to other fries I've had, this fry is a well regarded and seriously respectable fry. Even after steaming in the takeout box during the short drive, and cooling to near room temperature before I managed to steal one, this fry held its crunch. The fry was flavorful enough to stand quite well on its own without dipping. A very yummy fry. As I type this review I'm thinking about the best way to pilfer more fries before they're all gone. Exceptional food. I won't allow this to be our last visit.

Sounds like fun and tasty so we left early on Saturday morning. We splashed in and played for a few hours. After getting out of the water we walked to the food cart restaurant on the bank of Nehalem river. When we walked up there was a sign "Waiting Time One Hour". Ok! It's a three day warm winter weekend so many people headed to the coast. We ordered beer and chatted away the time. This is a good food cart, outside seating on the river on the sunny day. The cart is associated.with the roadside store in the downtown. The back of the store has a covered deck with tables in case it rains. Prices are high, for three piece halibut with a dab of coleslaw and overcook cold french fries was $32. My friend had the three-piece cod for $26ish. My friend really wanted to try this place and she enjoyed the cod. I, on the other hand, have had better with Moore sloth and fries at other places on the coast., But you're here, right. You're on a mini vacation, just enjoy the warm winter day and nice food.
