Visiting Salem and loonies for clam chowder for my daughter who craves it. Saw some positive reviews so gave them a shot. This is an order at the counter takeout style place but that was what doing anyways so no worries. Chowder: B-. Fair amount of clams but too much thicker that just took away from the soup as a whole. Disappointed Shellfish platter. I'll rate by the item in the platter Calamari: B+. Nice strips and fried well but no seasoning so just bland Panko shrimp: C. overcooked and no seasoning. Basically tasted like poor frozen box shrimp Oysters: C- Literally could fit on face of a quarter they were so small. And overcooked. I couldn't taste the oyster at all. Overall you can do a lot better read more

We were greeted and seated at one of the five tables. I had the 2 piece salmon basket comes with battered fries, and slaw. The salmon has a thin crunchy coating and the fish was cooked done and moist. Everything is clean and bright doesn't smell like fried fish. I also got the 8oz chowder super good with bacon and potatoes and clam bits that you can see and taste. I got the calamari strips for an app you get 4 tender calamari strips, and a sauce. read more

My husband and I finally found time to try this place and we weren't disappointed! Walking in the place is very small. There's only 5 tables and they are very close together. That is the only downside to this place. They have some colorful paint on the wall that was nice. When you come in, you order your food and then go sit down and they will bring it to you. We ended up ordering their 8 piece cod because it's cheaper than ordering 2 four pieces. She was nice enough to separate it for us without us asking. The food came out quick and it was not overly greasy. The cod had a nice batter and had a fresh clean taste. It was still moist and flaky. They were great sized also. As for the fries they came out hot and crisp. Some of the best fries I've had in a long time. The coleslaw was lacking flavor and depth but not a big deal. We got 3 sauces: tartar sauce was very good! The garlic aïoli had great flavor and wasn't overpowering. The ginger lime was very mild and wasn't a good choice in my opinion. They all seemed to be homemade and there were so many choices. read more

Battered Fish & Chips - Fish and chips. Came w coleslaw too - Fish & Chips Near Me - Salem, Oregon

While you can order online through their website you have to use a different site if you want delivery as they only listed pick up in my cart. I wanted my order delivered so used Grubhub. I got a 4-piece fish and chips (cod) which came with 2-sauces, fries and coleslaw. I selected mango-chili fish sauce and yummy sauce. First I want to mention that not only did I pay a delivery fee but they also charged more for the 4-piece than if I ordered direct and picked up. Also paid a tip to my driver. Overall value for the meal and delivery was not there for me. The overall meal portion was well more than I needed. The pieces of cod were good sized, a fair portion of fries and a tiny side of slaw. Only got to try the mango-chili sauce as they gave two of those so no yummy sauce. Food was delivered timely enough that it was still hot. The slaw was not one I would care to have again. They make a cilantro coleslaw. Cilantro is something that is hard to get right and that was all I could taste. It overpowered any other flavors. I added a spoonful of the mango-chili sauce which made it palatable but if you are not a cilantro fan I would recommend you skip the slaw altogether. The fish looked awesome and was cooked tender and flakey but, there was absolutely no flavor or seasoning to it. The batter did not stick and slid off. The fish was super greasy which may have contributed to the batter sliding off. I don't know but without batter the flesh was slippery and flaked apart requiring the use of a fork. The mango-chili sauce was excellent. If I try these guys again, I will have to get another side as backup. The star of the show were the fries. These were lightly seasoned, not very greasy. They are crispy outside and tender inside. Sadly the fries and sauce saved the review from being one star. I have really wanted to try this place but it just didn't cut it for me. May have to try in person to see if it is better that way but it will be awhile. read more

So good!!! We got the four piece cod/chips to go. Lightly battered, flaky and delicious fish. The chips are nice and crispy. Tartar sauce is house made and a great dipping sauce for the fish. Friendly staff that know how to make really good fish & chips. I highly recommend this little place if you're in the mood for fish. Located in a strip mall just off of Commercial. read more

Battered Fish & Chips - Four piece Cod & Chips with tarter - Fish & Chips Near Me - Salem, Oregon

When: Fri. Mar. 10, 2023 11:15 am Ordered the fish sandwich and fries... The battered fish between a Kaiser Bun with tartar sauce, cole slaw, and pickles were very tasty. The fries were hot and crispy. The service was very friendly and courteous. The ambiance here is primarily a take-out Eatery. They have about 4 to 5 tables inside, which makes the inside quite cozy, to say the very least. I will definitely return to try their other menu items like the Pacific Cod fish & chips, fish tacos, or salmon fish & chips. read more

I was excited to have a fish and chips place in town and had heard great things about it. We decided to Grubhub them for something different from our usual Thai or Indian delivery. I had the calamari and my husband had the oyster basket and we each had clam chowder. The order was cold when it was delivered, but that is not on the restaurant. That said, the calamari was in the style of frozen fish sticks and the oysters were over fried. The clam chowder was ok, by far the best part of the meal. Would I try them again, possibly, but I would get true fish and chips and I would eat it there or pick it up myself. read more

The food was great! I was visiting Salem and starving. Stopped and tried a bunch of stuff. Cod was delicious and flaky. The prawns to die for. The panko shrimp was ok. The mushrooms were pretty good, would have been better in a lighter batter the zucchini was excellent. The sauces were not my personal liking. But that's minor. Thanks!! read more

We waited months to eat here after we saw their sign go up but found the doors locked and windows papered over. Today on our way to the grocery, we saw that they were open so we stopped and had dinner. I had the four piece fish ' chips, husband had the fried fish sandwich with chips. Both orders came with a small cup of good coleslaw. Everything arrived quickly and was fresh and oh so delicious. Glad to see they're doing well. We'll be back soon. read more

Best fish-and-chips you're gonna get in the Willamette Valley at any price. But on that note their prices are extremely reasonable. The 1st time I went in there I got the 4 piece. Today I ordered the 9 piece because I brought my mom in with me. The 9 piece is definitely enough food for 2 1/2 to 3 people. They're not skimpy on their cut either and the batter is unbelievably light and yet really crispy. The fish is juicy and fresh . Even their clam chowder although they don't make it in house is very respectable. They do make an amazing variety of dipping sauces including their tartar sauce. Great flavor with lots of dill and pickles are finely minced. Coleslaw is also made in house and very refreshing. This is our go to fish & chips spot from now on. Not only is the food fantastic and a great value, but the staff absolutely rocks there. Everyone is so friendly and professional and they represent the business very well. The owner should be really proud of the people working there and what he or she has opened. read more

Very good fried fish. My only critique is that the fries are a little on the weaker side (they tasted frozen). And while the fish was amazing, it does taste even better after cooling off. I had half of my order when they brought it out and the rest about an hour later, and it tasted better later. But all in all, a good spot with friendly staff. read more

Halibut fish and chips were delicious! All the the dipping sauces are house made and very good.

Easy to find with well marked signs. Nice greetings and very fast service. Tiny eatery with great cod fish and chips . Music a bit loud but not unusual. Food service worker was excellent. Would go back. read more

The food was quite good. Halibut fish and chips; fish was crispy crusted and fries were good.

Went here for lunch, Saturday afternoon. Small place, not too busy, more take out than sit down, but we sat at a table. order from the counter type place. They had a 4 pc. Catfish special today so I ordered that. My daughter ordered the fish tacos. Very friendly staff. I have to say the catfish was the best I have had in Salem, maybe all of Oregon. It was fresh, light and flaky, cooked to perfection (loads of places basically destroy catfish by over cooking). The cornmeal breading was great . I even liked their coleslaw, quite different but tasty. The fries were nice and crisp too, they are the battered type, but these were not heavy at all. Daughter scoffed the tacos fast. very good. It's great to have a nice casual fish and chip place in Salem again. read more

A good fish and chips place is something Salem really needed and Battered delivers. Fish is very good, fries are great. The chowder has a great flavor but would be better if it was a little thicker with more chunks of goodness. The menu is a little weird in that they don't have the usual 2, 3, or 4 piece meals. They have a 2, 4, and 9. Oh yeah and their tartar sauce is really good, nice and sharp not bland like it sometimes can be. Definitely recommended. read more

My wife and I have been to Battered for dinner several times now and it has always been a great experience. The fish always tastes fresh and is perfectly fried, never greasy. The panko fried shrimp is also excellent. I have to mention the dipping sauces; all of them that we have tried are on point, with my favorites being the garlic aioli, lemon pepper aioli and spicy mayo. Even the coleslaw is good and I normally can't stand coleslaw. All in all if you're looking for fish 'n' chips or fried seafood in general in Salem, this place is the biggity-bomb-dot-com and you should definitely give it a try! read more

They are supposed to be open until 8pm, but when we pulled up at 7:35 pm all the chairs had been placed upside down on all the tables (even though there was a sign blinking "Open"). When I say I love fish & chips, I mean it. And the fish pieces here are fried to perfection. Tender, flaky fish with crispy brown batter. So perfect. The chips are the thin, shoestring cut and they load you up with plenty. I didn't go for the chips, they are secondary to the fish, but these chips rivaled the ones from that other place (gold arches). Actually, they were better because I didn't have a weird film in my mouth after eating them. Next I will try the fish sandwich. read more

The fish sandwich was a solid 10/10!!! Perfectly breaded flaky tender moist pcs of fish. On a soft bun with the perfect amount of tarter sauce. I'll get a couple extra pickles next time. I headed in for fish tacos and they were out of tortillas. Likely because the tacos must be great too.
