Disappointed Shellfish platter. I'll rate by the item in the platter Calamari: B+. Nice strips and fried well but no seasoning so just bland Panko shrimp: C. overcooked and no seasoning. Basically tasted like poor frozen box shrimp Oysters: C- Literally could fit on face of a quarter they were so small. And overcooked. I couldn't taste the oyster at all. My husband and I finally found time to try this place and we weren't disappointed! Walking in the place is very small. There's only 5 tables and they are very close together. That is the only downside to this place. They have some colorful paint on the wall that was nice. When you come in, you order your food and then go sit down and they will bring it to you. We ended up ordering their 8 piece cod because it's cheaper than ordering 2 four pieces. She was nice enough to separate it for us without us asking. The food came out quick and it was not overly greasy. The cod had a nice batter and had a fresh clean taste. It was still moist and flaky. They were great sized also. As for the fries they came out hot and crisp. Some of the best fries I've had in a long time. The coleslaw was lacking flavor and depth but not a big deal. We got 3 sauces: tartar sauce was very good! The garlic aïoli had great flavor and wasn't overpowering. The ginger lime was very mild and wasn't a good choice in my opinion. We were greeted and seated at one of the five tables. I had the 2 piece salmon basket comes with battered fries, and slaw. The salmon has a thin crunchy coating and the fish was cooked done and moist. Everything is clean and bright doesn't smell like fried fish. While you can order online through their website you have to use a different site if you want delivery as they only listed pick up in my cart. I wanted my order delivered so used Grubhub. I got a 4-piece fish and chips (cod) which came with 2-sauces, fries and coleslaw. I selected mango-chili fish sauce and yummy sauce. First I want to mention that not only did I pay a delivery fee but they also charged more for the 4-piece than if I ordered direct and picked up. Also paid a tip to my driver. Overall value for the meal and delivery was not there for me. The overall meal portion was well more than I needed. The pieces of cod were good sized, a fair portion of fries and a tiny side of slaw. Only got to try the mango-chili sauce as they gave two of those so no yummy sauce. Food was delivered timely enough that it was still hot. The slaw was not one I would care to have again. They make a cilantro coleslaw. Cilantro is something that is hard to get right and that was all I could taste. It overpowered any other flavors. I added a spoonful of the mango-chili sauce which made it palatable but if you are not a cilantro fan I would recommend you skip the slaw altogether. The fish looked awesome and was cooked tender and flakey but, there was absolutely no flavor or seasoning to it. The batter did not stick and slid off. The fish was super greasy which may have contributed to the batter sliding off. I don't know but without batter the flesh was slippery and flaked apart requiring the use of a fork. The mango-chili sauce was excellent. If I try these guys again, I will have to get another side as backup. The star of the show were the fries. These were lightly seasoned, not very greasy. They are crispy outside and tender inside. Sadly the fries and sauce saved the review from being one star. I have really wanted to try this place but it just didn't cut it for me. May have to try in person to see if it is better that way but it will be awhile. read more

I was excited to have a fish and chips place in town and had heard great things about it. We decided to Grubhub them for something different from our usual Thai or Indian delivery. I had the calamari and my husband had the oyster basket and we each had clam chowder. The order was cold when it was delivered, but that is not on the restaurant. That said, the calamari was in the style of frozen fish sticks and the oysters were over fried. The clam chowder was ok, by far the best part of the meal. Best fish-and-chips you're gonna get in the Willamette Valley at any price. But on that note their prices are extremely reasonable. The 1st time I went in there I got the 4 piece. Today I ordered the 9 piece because I brought my mom in with me. The 9 piece is definitely enough food for 2 1/2 to 3 people. They're not skimpy on their cut either and the batter is unbelievably light and yet really crispy. The fish is juicy and fresh . Even their clam chowder although they don't make it in house is very respectable. They do make an amazing variety of dipping sauces including their tartar sauce. Great flavor with lots of dill and pickles are finely minced. Coleslaw is also made in house and very refreshing. This is our go to fish & chips spot from now on. Not only is the food fantastic and a great value, but the staff absolutely rocks there. Everyone is so friendly and professional and they represent the business very well. Very good fried fish. My only critique is that the fries are a little on the weaker side (they tasted frozen). And while the fish was amazing, it does taste even better after cooling off. Catfish special today so I ordered that. My daughter ordered the fish tacos. Very friendly staff. I have to say the catfish was the best I have had in Salem, maybe all of Oregon. It was fresh, light and flaky, cooked to perfection (loads of places basically destroy catfish by over cooking). The cornmeal breading was great . I even liked their coleslaw, quite different but tasty. The fries were nice and crisp too, they are the battered type, but these were not heavy at all. Daughter scoffed the tacos fast. very good. My wife and I have been to Battered for dinner several times now and it has always been a great experience. The fish always tastes fresh and is perfectly fried, never greasy. The panko fried shrimp is also excellent. I have to mention the dipping sauces; all of them that we have tried are on point, with my favorites being the garlic aioli, lemon pepper aioli and spicy mayo. Delicious fish n chips- I've been here three times and the fish has been excellent all three times. They have a variety of sauces to try, along with standard malt vinegar and ketchup for the fries.
