The Basement used to be FreeStyles. It is located under the Strip and Tail restaurant. It's like being in a friend's basement. We went last night for Karaoke for my Bday. When it comes to bars in Winter Park there isn't much choice. I like swanky places to listen to live music - it really doesn't exist here in WP. So instead we have dive bars like Ullrs, The Pub and The Basement. I like the owner at the Basement and the girls thought Karaoke would be fun. FUN it was! I can't believe I sang karaoke last night. We had a blast and I was super lit - thanks to all the Bday drinks everyone was buying me. We danced and sang and had our party fun! No one really cares what you sound like singing and we met some great people. I think it's the best place for karaoke. Everyone supported everyone whether you sang like a pro or were horribly off key. Sometimes they bring in live music too. Sat. Jan. 24th we are going to have a girls night out and he's bringing in a cool DJ that makes everyone want to dance. Once a year we have a girls night out wearing wigs on the town of WP and every year we ended up at Freestyles for the last 5 years- now this year we are going to The Basement.

We came to celebrate our 7 year anniversary. Donna and Brian were so thoughtful and professional. They made sure we had everything we needed and wanted for our stay. Breakfast each morning was so delicious. Donna could have made it as a professional chef! We stayed in a dog friendly cabin, what fun to bring along our pup! Cabin was cozy, warm and the snow was shoveled each day for us.

The xc skiing at Devil's Thumb has always been a favorite for us, as far back as the 70's when it was just a rustic ski trail system with a small nordic supply shop. In recent years it became a full fledged resort with lodging where we have often stayed. We have also stayed in Winter Park, about 15 minutes away and driven over to ski. But we have now found our new favorite option. This is such a lovely place, both the facility and the charming staff. It is a better price value for us than some of the other options in the area, yet more than a simple motel in town. You know, like Goldilocks, "just right." I especially want to note that the (included) breakfast that host John cooks for the guests was wonderful, some sweet, some savory, warm, homemade, natural and ample for the start of even an hearty ski day. They take note in advance of special food needs and serve with a choice of time options. The log style of the building is rustic but nicely furnished. The rooms are well designed and furnished with high quality linens and have lots of storage as some guests stay for weeks. The views from each room are very pretty, some to the Continental Divide, some to the woodland. Every single staff member was friendly and helpful. The central lounge area was large, comfortable, attractive and clean and with a central fireplace. There are also some other smaller gathering areas to sit and talk or read if you wish to be outside your room. And there are also some family and dog friendly cabins on site if you want more than a bedroom. Personally, the rooms in the main inn are just right for my needs. We will absolutely be back. It is convenient to local xc skiing and also just a 15 minute drive past the Winter Park Resort and not far at all from several quality dinner options. We met other guests using the lodging for all of these reasons.

So, no parking pass meant we stopped at A Frame instead. And, seriously, best decision ever. As soon as you walk in, you know this place is different. We came in during the winter holidays and loved the decorations, the small touches and the festive space. Think minimal elegance with a chill vibe. We headed to the bar and enjoyed some really well made craft cocktails. Staff were awesome - really friendly, attentive and shared some laughs with us. While we only had drinks (that were soooo good!), we were already bookmarking A Frame to return for dinner. If our cocktails were any indication of what's to come, we're in.

The restaurant food was awesome - we got the charcuterie, burger and lamb pasta then finished the night with the cookie skillet which was my personal favorite. The staff was extremely friendly and made us feel right at home and the ambiance inside was so cozy, a perfect spot for winter. Also grabbed breakfast burritos and coffee from the restaurant in the morning too, they have bagels and alcohol for sale as well!
