Best place on the mountain! We were married in 2000 at Sunspot but this has become our new favorite! The staff Krysta, Roxy, Lisa and others and the continuity they all bring makes this a wonderful place for a great break on the mountain! This place has gone downhill in the last few years. Use to be great, but they're totally disorganized. After standing in line for half an hour you get to the front to find out they don't have half of the thighs on the menu, which then sends your party into another long line to get a backup item. For goodness sake, they have digital menus! Mark them as out when they run out! read more

This place is poppin! While brown baggers are discouraged from hanging about there is no lack of skiers and snowboards looking to take a load off, snag a snack and enjoy a cold one from the bar. There are loads of tables and chairs however there are far more people than seats. The best strategy I've found is to divide and conquer (meaning one friend goes to get the food while the other keeps an eagle eye out for people that might be getting ready to go back out on the slopes). The food for purchase is quite good as well though it is at the ski resort prices you would expect. My favorite dish is definitely the chili. The portion is unbelievably large and it comes out piping hot! There's also a soup flight which is fun, particularly if you are sharing with friends. There are bathrooms on the lower level which you can get to via the stairs (behind the bar) or the elevator. If you're like me and think being cold is only a state of mind then there are some Adirondack chairs just outside the bar to take in the views, soak in the sun, and crack open a cold one. read more

This place was remodeled very nicely. Lots of open seating and lounge chairs outside. They have water stations inside, a bar and cafeteria style eating. The food is way too expensive though. Almost all the meals are $12 up. They must be trying to pay for the remodel, because I don't even want to eat here with how expensive everything is. I mean I get I'm on the mountain and I have to pay some penny for a pizza, but this is a bit steep. Better off going to some of the other nearby lodges. Beer is a bit more too. The one plus is they occasionally have a grill outside with some brats for a bit better price than some of the food inside. Bathrooms are nice though and are situated in the basement. I'll come again to take break and maybe grab a beer. Unfortunately it gets busy at lunch because it's new and a lot of lifts end up here. Hopefully they add more variety to the menu and lower some of the prices. Or at least offer smaller portions for a lower cost. read more

Brianne and Veronique had excellent reviews. Bonnie's review and tip is spot on so I'll try and add what the mentioned reviews left out. Nice spot! Large gorgeous remodeled area. Cafeteria style and the price unfortunately don't reflect that vibe. Full bar odd to the side with about twelve taps. Nice views but it's just a lift up from the base so you have more dining options at the village base MUCH cheaper too. Clean bathrooms. Plenty of seating with huge open windows. Smaller tables and larger circular ones for groups of six to ten. Proximity to the base and Mary Jane side of Winter Park means this is a busier place to rest and eat. Cheaper than a Vail resort but Winter Park is getting pricey. Copper too but I guess with more traffic it's easier to justify the price increase. I will say $15 for a Bloody is a bit ridiculous. Arapahoe Basin has better Bloodys for half the price. Four bucks cheaper if you forgo the Bacon Bloody. "Tax is higher as elevation goes up." Good tip from a cashier on the mountain. Sure you'll be meeting here where trails merge to catch up with your buddies. read more

3 stars because the prices are ridiculously expensive. Yes, the place is very nice, on top of Mary Jane, right off the Super Gauge Express lift, but the location can't justify such expensive prices for lunch in a cafeteria, even with amazing views. I had a Caesar salad, which was big, well presented and tasty, but for $15, you certainly want a good salad. The French onion soup was also very good and beautifully presented, but you have to pay $14 for it. I think the cheapest option on the menu is $14, most of the offerings average $17 (kid's mac and cheese is $11). Yes, it's upscale cafeteria food, but still, it is cafeteria food, with plastic glasses and plastic cups for coffee (good coffee by the way, with free refills for a little less than $4). If you go there for lunch with a couple kids, be ready to spend serious money. There is also a nice deck with a grill ($16 hot dog brats), but it was a little too windy for us to go outside. The bar looks nice, but I did not check the drinks. In the end we had a good lunch, but I don't think we'll be back soon, considering the prices. read more

Take the ski lift to lunch rock from Winter Park or Mary Jane. Food has been hit or miss, when it is good, it is very good. When bad, it is usually food that should be hot is ice cold. It is hard to find seating on a busy ski day, but if you find a seat, it is a great place to have a beer and rest between runs. I recommend splitting things for lunch. Prices are high and it's a lot of food before you go back out to ski. It is probably the place we eat the most besides Club car at the base of Mary Jane. There is a fireplace, a bar, tables, free water, and spectacular views! Easy to access if you are a skier! read more

If we stop anywhere for a drink or break at Winter Park, its Lunch Rock. Us, and everyone else that goes to Winter Park - so just expect this is going to be packed, and busy, and have lines, if you go on the weekends or a holiday. Its not bad on weekdays at all. There is a reason they have signs "No Sack Lunches" and ask you to go to any of the other establishments if you have a sack lunch. The food is QUALITY food tho - I mean, a notch and a half above the standard fare served at any of the other resorts I have been to. Dat Potatoe Soup Doe. Oh and does fries. SUCH nom. They are those thin, tasty fries you can eat several of at a time. Obviously, its expensive. If you want to go on the cheap(ish) - share a plate of fries (its a HUGE PLATE of fries) and get a single beer ($8 a beer tho so just FYI) and pack a snack you can munch on the mountain. The serving sizes are really big too though so as long as you're not ravenous you can probably share with your friend or S/O. A note on the service - I see a couple people complaining about less than attentive waitstaff and barstaff. Unfortunately, the place is busy, and loud, AND kid friendly, and sometimes you have to be patient - but I have never been ignored by a bartender or staff member here and everyone is always cordial. And yes, EVERYONE gets ID'd (one ID per drink) because they have to make sure they are following the law, and since there are so many underage people in here, that's just how it goes, yo! read more

This is a place that can go either way. We came here last New Years and damn it was packed and nearly impossible to get food or drinks in a timely fashion. Then this MLK weekend there were hardly any lines and we were able to enjoy the great food and beer selections. Just know that visiting this place you may want to err on the side of either early or late lunch to not get bogged down in the line situation. The food options are great here. Quality soups and sandwiches. The soup flight is such a great deal! And OH MY GOD the turkey pot pie is whoa good! The craft beer selection here is awesome. You get so many local Colorado brews to try. And holy Bloody Mary, the size of it is unreal. It's basically a double. I would definitely recommend this as my mountain go-to! read more

This place is so frustrating. Gorgeous drop dead views! Most of the bar tenders are great, Roxy Angie. And durning the week the bar is not too crowded. If you ski enough resorts you know you are paying a premium at the top of a mountain especially when it's a brand new building. He where it gets rough. The past two 3 day weekends they ran out of liquor , beer and wine: All Upslope, Rumpy, Tuaca, red wine. If you want to sit at the bar, good luck! So if you want to sit at a table you need to reach over annoyed patrons. Again the run out of food, the lines are long, food is not bad but again very expensive. Spring is a better option the deck reduces pressure on the inside. read more

I used to love Lunch Rock. It was an old, run-down building that was almost too small to move around inside. The walls were lined with vinyl album covers from the 70's. There was an adjacent warming hut with large glass windows where you could watch the world ski past while you ate your food, whether it was a sack lunch or a $10 bread bowl of chili you purchased there. It wasn't glamorous or fancy. It was simple, quintessential Mary Jane. I was excited when I saw that they were going to remodel it. It was my favorite slopeside restaurant, and with a larger seating area it would be perfect. Boy, was I wrong. Don't get me wrong: the new building is gorgeous. They didn't great job designing it. Unfortunately, it's no longer interesting or unique. Now it's just another overpriced mid-mountain restaurant. The prices have skyrocketed and the quality hasn't. Worst of all, they no longer allow you you to eat sack lunches indoors. If you don't spend $20 on a burger and $6 on a can of beer, you have to sit outside in the cold like a peasant. The best part is that they have an announcement to that effect that plays every 2 minutes in case you forget. Overall I miss the old Lunch Rock. I'll still stop here to warm up and drink some water, but it's no longer my favorite lunch spot. read more

I have been wanting to go here. It's a beautiful new rustic building on top of the mountain at 11,220 feet above sea level. The bar is beautiful and the views are incredible. I give the building 4 stars however I found the food expensive in a cafeteria like setting. At those prices I want to be seated and served. I will definitely come back for a beer but for food I'll stick to the Club Car. I am looking forward to a warm sunny day and kicking back in those cool beach chairs on the mountain with a cold Mary Jane Ale. They even have a grill outside too. Best gourmet ski food we've ever had. Everything was delicious. Had pizza, beet salad, and French dip sandwich. So good. Portions are generous so even though it seems pricey, you can definitely share which makes it pretty reasonable for great food. I paid $19 for my beet salad with chicken. Worth every penny. Horribly overpriced food. $17 for a fatty French Dip? Only made that mistake once and ate down at the ski village the rest of the trip.

I'll start off by saying the kitchen staff is awesome. They were friendly and amenable to customized requests. That said, the bartending staff at Lunch Rock is barnone the worst I have experienced in years. My girlfriend and I sat down at the bar and we each ordered a mixed drink. After finishing our lunch, we ordered another mixed drink -- and my girlfriend attempted to order shots to go with the drinks. Unfortunately, the bartender Marcia did not hear my girlfriend's request for shots. OK - fine, it happens, but Marcia was aloof for the entire time bartending. A few moments later, my gf attempts to order shots from Roxanne, and the attempt falls on deaf ears. Finally, Roxanne says she'll be right with us -- and then walks away. Annoyed, my girlfriend expresses her frustration with a deep sigh wondering what it takes to actually get served. Marcia then replies to *that* finally, asking if "everything is OK young lady." No, it's not ok - and we closed out our tab and left. I plan on going back to Winter Park, but I will only stop at Lunch Rock to use the bathroom. That's the type of service that will make sure I never visit a bar again. read more

It looked terrible. You also got rid of the pork tacos!! You've had the same format mow since you opened! Time to change it up with better menu items and stop ripping us off!!!! Great spot to stop at for a drink or two while skiing at winter park. The bar tenders can really hold it down especially when it gets super busy. It's not as expensive as other mid mountain bars so that's a plus as well. Only complaint is that sometimes they don't have a couple beers on their menu (this weekend it was the sour and the stout) and it takes them way too long to replace them. Also you don't need 6 IPAs on tap out of 12 total taps. Otherwise this place is great. read more

Ever been on a date with a guy you think is just completely out of your league? That is until he opens his mouth, which is when you realize why he's single..........That's exactly how I feel about Lunch Rock. Lunch Rock is located at the top of Mary Jane, which is a great location for a lunch spot. It was remodeled lately and I really do like the feel of Lunch Rock both inside and out. That is where my praises end, unfortunately. First, everything here is RIDICULOUSLY expensive. With the exception of an order of fries, I don't think there is any hot food you can order for less than $12. My husband and I couldn't stomach spending more than $9, so we made the mistake of ordering the fries. They were some of the worst fries we have ever tasted. They were really thin, lukewarm (at best), and had no seasoning. We also ordered some drinks from the bar, which I will say were good. I got a Nitro Stout that was really smooth and delicious, although still overpriced at $9. I know this is "mountain" food, but I've skied at enough places where the food is a lot better and not nearly as expensive....I plan to never make the mistake of eating here again. read more

They say you get what you pay for....this place delivers for those who want the best. Gourmet all the way! High end pizza, sandwiches, soups, and salad! We personally had a pumpkin flavored soup, tacos, and a meat lovers pizza. Everything was amazing! The bar was a really fun place to chill for a breather. I've been here before and gotten quick service and great food. Today, however, was a complete fiasco at the hot food serving line. It took 30 mins to get our food, and they hardly had any options. Spectacular views atop the mountain. Food is outstanding with a good variety. Bar is low key with many beers on tap. Friendly staff, fun to interact with. Bar and food can be considered pricey, but all the food is gourmet and beer is primarily specialty. Plus you are on top of the mountain, would expect the price to be inflated for carting the food and beer to 11,000 ft. Absolutely the most inefficient system I have ever seen to get food. Ridiculous to wait in a line for 30 min just to get French fries when there were only 6 people in front of me. Need to figure out a better system of getting people through the sandwich line. Not to mention that they only had 2 people working the longest line there being as possible slow as possible. read more

This place is great. They don't allow lunches to be brought in so you can usually go in and find a place to sit and enjoy your meal. I recommend the French dip but I've never had anything I didn't like. Soups and salads are excellent too. It's on the expensive side but that's to be expected at a ski resort and the food is better than any other places I've eaten on the mountain. read more

Had some awesome Butternut Squash soup today. They were kind enough to let me sample it first before I committed to a bowl at $16.95. Ended up getting a cup but the serving was very large, more like a bowl. It was nicely presented with some dried beet powder, balsamic fizzle and some pumpkin seeds. !
