The server, Stephanie, was very friendly and let us sit where we liked! I usually don't write reviews but I was blown away by my meal. I also ordered the dry rub wings (absolutely amazing - crispy, perfectly spicy, amazing house rub) and the grilled cheese and tomato soup (legitimately THE BEST GRILLED CHEESE I'VE EVER HAD). The owner, Sal, came over to our table while we scanned the menus and introduced himself. He gave us a complimentary taco each and said "these are the best tacos you've ever had." I loved the confidence and I loved that he was right. It was love at first bite. We ordered a quesadilla, a chicken salad, a plate of fries, more tacos and a gyro (assuming we would be taking most of it home and eating it for dinner over the week) The quesadilla & gyro were delicious and fresh. They were still tasty as leftovers 2 days later. I wasn't crazy about the salad but that's probably my fault. Ya Hala does comfort junk food - this is not the time to be calorie-conscious. Sal checked in on us a number of times while we were eating. The restaurant is a small hole-in-the-wall with a few booths and a bathroom. I assume most of their business comes from people doing take out at the end of their work day. If I lived or worked closer, I would be a regular customer here. In the end, Sal packed our food in to-go boxes and gave us a free gyro as a surprise. At some point during dinner, my husband mentioned I was Yelp Elite. In the interest of full disclosure, at no point did Sal ask me to leave a favorable review or use his free food as a bargaining chip. This review is done without taking the free gyro into consideration.

The great reviews for Chez Mike caught my interest. The first thing I noticed when I walked through…read morethe door is that the staff is very friendly. The decor is attractive though the lighting is a bit dark for my taste. There is an extensive menu. I couldn't decide. I asked the very helpful server for suggestions. She said the Seafood Chowder, which is offered as an entree, is so good that it never comes off the menu. Well, that was all I needed to hear. I make my own chowder, Cioppino and bouillabaisse. I always make red soup for health reasons, never white, which is generally richer because of the cream. I wondered if charging $37 for a big bowl of chowder was pricey but when it arrived it was delicious. To me, it was wonderfully decadent. The were several freshly cooked clams, shrimp, scallops and a fairly large and tender portion of white fish. Of course, as usual, I only managed to eat half. So there was enough left over for another meal. I was so full. Part of the reason is that Chez Mike serves the most awesome warm crusty bread and herb butter. The bread was perfect for dipping into the chowder but I had to resist the urge to eat more than two slices of bread since I'm diabetic. It was a weekday. The restaurant started filling up by 6:30pm. According to the server, many customers were walk-ins. Based on the familiarity with the hostess, it seemed that many were repeat customers. Chez Mike is located in the East Greenbush Hannaford Shopping Plaza on Columbia Turnpike. There are Italian, French and Mediterranean dishes. It seems the food is often described as just "American." Also, Chez Mike is accommodating to those with disabilities. A couple of guests used walkers and one arrived with a wheelchair. All seemed to be enjoying themselves.

If you've looked at some of the other reviews, you're well aware that it's tucked into the middle of an unassuming strip mall in suburban East Greenbush. Don't be deceived. This is fine dining with a neighborhood vibe- the perfect combination in my world. A great dining experience is mostly about the food, and the food at Chez Mike does not disappoint. A seasonally-varied menu featuring locally-sourced items, with a couple of carefully chosen specials each night isput out by a chef who above all loves to cook. I'm particularly taken with anything braised on the menu. Anything! it will come out tasty and tender and with a delicious sauce. Seafood dishes are also especially creative and tasty. And any and all dietary restrictions are thoughtfully accomodated, even if it means anre off-menu detour needs to be taken. The beverage menu is compact, but ever so carefully put together. Creative cocktails, a small but solid wine list and a handful of quality local brews. No need for more. We don't often do dessert, but when we do there are tasty items like homemade ice cream and creme brulee and seasonal bread pudding varieties that do the trick nicely. Everyone raves aboutr the baguette and the kalamata butter. I can but agree! Great food is best served by a great staff, and the crew at Chez Mike is evidence. Mike occasionally tosses something out on social media, and one of his regular comments is "I've got the best people". He does, and he trains them well, and respects them, and they in turn provide skillful and knowkedgeable service with a warm and friendly touch. If you're not sure on something, ask. If they recommend, follow it- you'll be glad you did. I may have gone overly long here, but we've enjoyed this place on a fairly regular basis for years, and hope to for a bunch more. It's very special, and the many, many regulars know why.

I still really like this place, but the service was way off on this particular day, even though they were not busy. And one burger was missing bacon. The amount of blue cheese crumbles and caramelized onions was minuscule. The burger patties themselves are unseasoned, so the toppings are key. Overall, it's a decent burger and I like their fries, but it's hard to overlook the mistakes with our ordering, especially when we were overcharged because of it.

My husband and I stayed at Scribners so we checked out Prospect the first night of our stay!…read more We had a pleasant rainy evening with mountain views, low lighting dim lamps and candles at Prospect. We sat in a corner booth and the ambiance was amazing. Our favorite dish was our starter, sourdough and mango burrata with prosciutto chips. The hamburger was yummy, we asked for it medium but it was likely closer to medium rare. The salmon (market fish) was good but only came with one single asparagus. It was a beautiful dish- I wish the flavor matched the presentation, I likely wouldn't order it again. The smoke and honey cocktail came out from the bartender with a box that was opened in front of us and released smoke, it smelled and was delicious- and I normally don't like bourbon! We had the vanilla ice cream with olive oil and salt flakes. The ice cream was creamy and yummy, I think it was heavy on the olive oil. The combination was new to us and was yummy, but feel as though it was drowning in olive oil. I'm not sure I will find myself in the area again, but I would recommend Prospect to anyone in the area wanting an upscale dinner with interesting and new flavor combinations with a romantic mountain vibe!
