    Wings

Always love a good trivia night with great wings and beer! Small little bar with great junk food! It wasn't too packed for trivia, however they only have high top tables so seating isn't the best. Service was extremely friendly but understaffed, it's understandable. The server was also the bartender and he was so nice I would hate to say anything negative! The beer options are amazing. Great tap list and a nice selection of cans you can grab on the side of the bar. This was an awesome perk. The beers were very pricy, but they were great. I love a good IPA and there were endless options for me. We ordered three things to share. The disco fries, and two types of wings. The disco fries were house cut fries and fried cheese curds smothered in a brown gravy and mozzarella. They were devilish and indulgent, just check that cheese pull. The gravy was really flavorful and savory and we thought it tasted homemade. So so good. The wings! They did not disappoint. Perfectly cooked and crispy and tender. We ordered the jalapeño garlic parm and the standard medium sauce of course. The jalapeño garlic parm was delicious. The jalapeños weren't very spicy and the wings were perfectly crispy with a buttery garlic butter. The medium sauce wasn't really my favorite style but they were good and loved by the table. They were also super crisp! This is a great bar for some delicious greasy fried food, great beers and a friendly atmosphere. Oh and my team won trivia, woot woot!

Went here for 10 wings for $10 (a Wednesday night special) and had the jalapeño garlic parm, salt and vinegar dill, and peanut butter sriracha (not pictured) and they were all awesome! And a great deal :) Unfortunately the taps were having issues so we could not get any draft beers, but we will definitely be back to try again! The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that all three times I've been here, it has taken a long time for our server to come around and our food to come out. The waiters are always super nice and apologize for the delay, saying their kitchen is backed up. It just seems they could maybe staff more people for the wing special Wednesdays (although I know that is easier said than done). If they could get the wait time down a little, I'd go here all the time!

To get things started, I don't drink so I go to places like these strictly for the food. After seeing that The Horses Lounge has won numerous awards for best burger, I knew I had to give it a shot. To state, I ordered loaded tater tots and fried pickles as an appetizer. The loaded tots were very good. The tots were crispy and salty. The melted cheese and bacon added some nice layers of flavor as well. Equally, the fried pickles were excellent. The pickles were crunchy, light, and tasty. Also, the ranch made for a nice dipping sauce. On another note, I made a decision to get the Wake up Giddy Up burger with fries as my entree. The burger was topped with bacon, cheese, fried egg, and a hashbrown. With this in mind, the burger was very good. The beef was juicy and the bun was nicely toasted. Plus, the fried egg wasn't too runny and the hashbrown added a nice crunch. My only problem with the burger was that it was a bit over seasoned. The burger had too much pepper inside it and the taste was a bit powerful. In contrast, the fries were hand cut and I enjoyed them a lot. In essence, The Horses Lounge has good burgers and is worth eating at.

Taco Tuesday and a couple of brews!

RE review time kids! Here it is,Tuesday, the second Monday of the week. I'm shot from the screw show of the day and the bride is right there with me! We decided to take the short walk here for a few reasons, great beer and cider selection, always good service and.......taco Tuesday!! We found ourselves a table and were promptly greeted by our waitress, and placed our order for adult beverages. While waiting we cruised the menu, already knowing what we wanted (ehh never hurts to look!). Drinks delivered,I scratched our name on the pool table chalk board. Before you could say"rack-em!" Our dinner has arrived! The bride pulled the trigger on 2 chicken,1 beef and one fish tacos. I ran with 2 chicken and 2 beef. Along with an order of loaded fries to share. Great chow for sure! Man what a excellent way to end a craptastic day!

Short pour. Left to right, Legend IPA & Goose Island IPA.

This was a reconnaissance run for a potential TTTT. My wife called from work and said she needed a break from eating leftover turkey and side dishes. I was game and she knew I wanted to check out the Horses Lounge, so I leaped at the chance. Street parking is limited, however the Price Chopper lot is not too far away. Maybe we were early enough, or maybe Tuesday is not that busy, but our 6:30 arrival encountered only about 5 or 6 patrons, all of whom were at the bar. But our very first impression was actually the smell of old cigarettes and stale smoke as we opened the front door. The place is not large, it has room for about a dozen people at the bar and two four-seat high-tops among the pool table and electronic darts. Our stools at the high-top wobbled. While the barmaid covers both the bar and the two tables, our arrival did not seem to warrant any personal service as we chose our table and seated ourselves. We were neither approached to obtain a drink order nor to be given menus. Since we could read the drafts from our table, we made our choices and I approached the bar just as the barmaid headed into the kitchen. Fortunately, there were two menus propped up against the beer taps so I took them to our table without any beer. After the barmaid returned to the bar and began conversing with other patrons I decided to approach the bar again to place our order. And that gives you a flavor for our first impression of service. From the seven beers on draft we selected the Legend IPA and the Goose Island IPA. While the barmaid was pouring our beers she informed us that Tuesday is $1 Taco Night. That only slightly changed my wife's planned order. She decided to try one taco along with her original plan to have a pizza with mushrooms and onions. I requested a burger, but was informed that they had run out of burgers the night before since Monday was burger night. So I decided to order the Horses Heart Attack Hot Dog. We've never before had a Legend IPA, so we have nothing to compare it with, but my wife thought it tasted like the tap line was dirty. I just noted a citrusy flavor. My Goose IPA was not quite as hoppy as the Legend and was very good other than the excessive head that had been poured. For the taco, we had choices of pork or beef, and soft or hard tortilla. We chose a soft pork taco. It actually was decent. They use flour tortillas and not corn tortillas. The pizza however, was a different story. This personal sized pizza had nothing that said order me again. It reminded me of what I've always thought was how one of those pizzas you see rotating in a heat lamped display case at a gas station along the highway might taste like. I've never had one of those and I now know I'll never have another one of these. My Horses Heart Attack was the highlight for me. It's a hot dog wrapped in bacon, deep fried, and topped with chili, cheddar cheese, and horseradish mustard. The roll was fresh and soft. The flavors of the chili, bacon, cheese, and mustard blended nicely and had me thinking of ordering a second one. But my wife suggested I try the wings. They have many different flavors for their wings. I was tempted to try the peanut butter & jelly ones, but in order to be fair in a comparison to others that I've had at TTTT events I decided to simply go with medium, extra crispy, and whatever sauce they needed to arrive at the medium level of hotness. I should point out that by this time the shift for the barmaid had changed and our new barmaid, Hannah, was a breath of fresh air. Well, not really for this place, but we had grown accustomed to the fragrance, the first barmaid wished us a good night as she left, and Hannah was checking in with us periodically. She also poured a better pint. I assume I ended up with a full order of wings and not a half order since we were served 10 wings with the requested add-on of blue cheese and celery. The wings were definitely crispy on the outside, the sauce had a reasonable amount of hotness for medium, the wings had an average amount of meat on them, and there were large chunks of cheese in the blue cheese. As would be expected, extra crispy wings tend to be a bit drier, and even more so as they begin to cool. Overall, I'd say they were average. But who knows about those other flavors! The patrons here are friendly, you can strike up a conversation with them, and if you are into pool, darts, or even karaoke, this might be the place for you. The bathrooms are even decent. Maybe the biggest downer was having to pass through the gauntlet of smokers outside the front door upon leaving. The Horses Heart Attack and Hannah probably should warrant an additional half-star!

It turned out to an entire fried fish. Who eats this much fried fish?! It was like the Cheesecake Factory version of fried fish. Furthermore, this thing was so overly fried, there was a very thick shell of fried 'something' surrounding the fish. Now, to be fair, once I chipped away the fried exterior, the fish was pretty good. The coleslaw was in a tiny cup, sad and drowning in mayo. Plan for the food to take 15 minutes to come out (and this was a not very crowded weekday night).

Back in the day they would have pizza brought over from their pizza shop across the street bud the pie was good. Fast forward to our trip this year. It was our 19th year wedding anniversary and the wife and I were looking to try something new. The pictures from the food looked great so I figured this was worth a shot. Upon arrival we were greeted very warmly and the bartender and waitress were both warm, friendly, and it was all very natural like we just walked into there home. The place is decked out in craft Irish stuff but it was just at patty's the week before we had gone but I imagine that is a typical look there. We both had a dirty martini which was made very well and the waitress served them table side with the remainder left in the glass fir us to pour ourselves. Very nice touch! We had scallops wrapped in bacon and a French onion soup as an app. Both were good but the soup was a bit cold so we asked to have it warmed up. The staff handled it well they didn't make a huge deal and just got us a nice hot soup with no excuses or rambling on about this "this never happens" or "staffing issues". On to dinner. I had the steak Au Poivre with mashed and veg. All of it was done well and the portion was perfect. The wife had chicken piccata which had a great egg batter on it and a nice white wine butter sauce. We also ordered some Togo meals for the kids and they enjoyed them as well. They had boneless wings, a burger, and a chicken parm sub. I would definitely recommend this place for a medium priced dinner and drinks. Very friendly staff and the place was super clean and well put together. We will be going back!
