Beer battered chicken sandwich with fries
    Bill Z.

I've been here a couple of times, and my opinion is somewhat middle of the road. I'm not a fan of the place on weekends with the larger crowds and all the TVs going, it just gets too loud for me. I'm fine coming here during slower times. Their beer selection isn't of as much interest to me as the options at other nearby places, but I can usually find something to drink. The food is okay, the fries are quite salty, food comes out reasonably fast and service is fairly prompt.

This place is super spacious with plenty of bar space and many table options for decent-sized groups both inside and outside. The draft list was full of local brewery Frog Alley options (including two sours! SWEET!) with a nice variety of cans and bottles, including ciders and seltzers, too. The speciality cocktail menu was a hit for summer-drink fans and it was a nice touch that ice waters were delivered when our waitstaff first approached us sitting on the ledge bar outside [it was a seat-yourself situation] on a Saturday evening. Our server was attentive and friendly, and clarified things as we placed our orders to make sure they were placed correctly and we were incredibly happy with our visit. [spoiler alert: we were!] We shared the pigs in a blanket featuring perfectly salty pretzel dough wrappers and wonderful whole grain mustard - we added a side of honey mustard dip which was also delicious. These were especially wonderful paired with the watermelon sour beer I enjoyed. Not in the mood for sandwiches or burgers, we ordered another appetizer and a salad. The piggy tots were topped with SUPER DUPER bbq pulled pork and melty cheese. The croutons on the grilled chicken ceasar salad were especially flavorful. The salad is served dressed by the kitchen, but was not overdressed, which is often a complaint I have when ordering pre-dressed salads. The chicken ceaser salad WAS nice, but my eyes grew large watching lots of other salad options walk by us to make their way to other tables. Our waitress later tipped us off that the plates we had most often stared at longingly were the caprese salad topped with grilled or blackened chicken. I know what we'll be trying next time! The shoestring fries and various pizzas also looked amazing when they were walking by to be served. I have a feeling this spot may become a regular in rotation soon.

The 151 burger with a side of shoestring fries....I added sauteed onions and mushrooms to mine with Swiss cheese. It was very comforting.

Food was great, flavorful and hot when served. Service was quick. The waitress was very helpful. Just a chilled laid back place to grab a bite, watch a game and catch up with family & friends.

Last time I posted a review for 151 was five years ago but rating and comments are still the same as they were then. They have made minor changes to their name. Menu is larger but still amazing extra crispy parm garlic wings. Tried a Calzone and it was amazing to. Dough was light and we end up using the extra parm garlic sauce rather than the red sauce to dip calzone in. Food was amazing and tasty. It was nice coming back as it has probably been a year since our last stop at 151. Great sports bar with amazing food. I have to say they still have the best wings hands down. Never disappoints.

Nice spot in Schenectady for the bar or to sit down for food. The pizza was decent! My favorite part is the patio, except for the country music.

    Pretty darn good fried pickles.

151 is a very cool spot to hang if you want to take in downtown Schenectady. Their patio might be the coolest in the city. On my most recent visit they had live music and the table I sat at made me say "Schenectady is actually rather beautiful" for the first time. Let me get one thing out of the way in this review first. 151 has Clam Chowder that will make you jump for joy. Either their chef has New England roots or they stole someone's secret recipe. All I know is that it is the bomb :) Some genius also decided to place a fried Ipswitch clam on top of the cup of chowder. Brilliant idea! I have not had it in quite some time. Hopefully their preparation is consistent. They have a varied pub style menu here. The pizza is OK. The crust was crispy. Being a pepperoni connoisseur I found theirs to be rather bland. The tomato sauce is decent though. They are certainly not a pizza destination but I believe most folks will be happy with it. Their wings are also good. They have the traditional options and one that impressed my large group of foodies. They are called "Italian Style" wings. This is my first time experiencing this preparation and boy was it delicious. The wings were cooked crispy, still juicy on the inside. They were coated in a vinegar heavy sauce and accompanied by fried green peppers and pickled spicy red peppers. These wings are a must try at your next visit. I liked the medium sauce but the wings were a bit rubbery. I saw burgers and sandwiches on the menu too. They have a nice sized list of draft beer as well. Prices are on the higher side so expect to pay a healthy sum for your meal. All in all 151 is a great hang with decent bar food. They should be a popular destination in Schenectady for the forseeable future.

He recommended this place and said the pizza was really good. So we get there and there's only two other people there. The bartender seemed like she was on it. Had the menus. Had the specials. Was talking to everyone. And she was quick with the refreshments. So the bar is as I remember it 20 years ago. Nothing super special but it's spacious and remotely clean. Bathrooms worked. They had darts and a pool table. So we order food. Mozz sticks. Pizza. A chicken wrap. And some loaded fries. Well unfortunately the fryer wouldn't kick on. I even went into the kitchen to see if I could figure it out. I couldn't. But the bartender and cook were both super cool and apologetic and we just ate what they brought out. They did have someone come and fix the issue too in under an hour they were back up and running. Which meant the owner cares in my opinion. Pizza was good. It's bar pie but the bottom was crispy and there was an enormous amount of cheese. The wrap was good and came with a decent house made Mac salad. In the end I'd recommend this place as a day drink and bite to eat. I imagine it may be a bit rowdy at night. But in all I would go back.

But one is head and shoulders above the other... literally! And that would be the Tavern because it is on the floor above the Pizzeria, and of course, the Rooftop is still one more level up. If you're looking for pizza slices or maybe a pizza to-go, the pizzeria on the ground floor is your place. If you want a full bar, a menu including a variety of pub foods, table service, and maybe a DJ spinning sounds, head on up the narrow staircase to the 2nd floor. The open sky can be found above a dozen tables still one further level up on the roof of the building. Our party of five was happy to score one of those dozen tables on the roof. Not just because it was a beautiful warm evening, but because the music in the tavern below was so loud that we would not have been able to carry on a conversation. Our group was here to sample a planned menu that has carried us from tavern to tavern throughout the Capital Region for over two years - wings, mozzarella sticks with Melba sauce, pizza, and wash it all down with good beer. And that was where we met our first hurdle. Beer is not sold by the pitcher at Nico's. Our server asked if we were going have a bucket. Apparently, that was a special that evening. We inquired what was available on draft and as our server went through the underwhelming list of fifteen, we decided upon pints of Ithaca Flower Power IPA, primarily because it was the only craft beer on draft. Our first order of wings were ordered with a hot sauce and tasted very good. They were still hot when served, the chicken on the flats was juicy, but a bit dry on the drumsticks. The hot sauce was not too hot, the only significant problem was that two of the ten wings were missing. The mozzarella sticks were pretty basic. We've had both better and worse. The Melba sauce was decent, it had a nice flavor and a good viscosity. For our first pizza we got what we call our "Steve N." It is a New York style red sauce with mozzarella, ham, bacon, and jalapeños. It should be noted that their "small" 6 slice pizza is not that small if you are eating other things. The crust at the edge of the pizza is very thick. It has a good flavor and requires a fair amount of chewing. Overall, the toppings were adequate but did not extend more than halfway from the center of the pie toward the edges. It was otherwise an enjoyable pizza. While we were enjoying the "Steve N", we ordered another round of Flower Power, more wings with hot sauce and extra crispy, and one of their Sicilian Style pizzas. At this point we also informed our server that we had been shorted two wings in the first order. In order to maximize our opportunity to sample more pizza toppings, we asked that half the Sicilian have sausage, onions, and peppers, and the other half be their chicken parmigiana topping. It took quite a long time for this order to be received. Both the wings and the pizza must have sat for awhile before coming to our table because both were only warm. The Sicilian is a huge square pizza cut into 12 slices. The end crusts are even thicker than what we had on the New York style - especially the corner slices. I did not find the chicken parm to be very tasty. Too much cheese and not enough chicken. The mozzarella didn't taste like or have a consistency like I was expecting. It was almost creamy in texture. The sausage was nothing special, and the onions and peppers were likely added raw after the pizza was removed from the oven. Our server was pleasant and accommodating to our special requests. The unique draw of Nico's may be either the open sky rooftop dining, or the Mug Club that they describe on their web page. Some of the appetizer items are huge portions for a mere $6. Our group will continue onward.
