The best thing about this restaurant is its clever name. It aspires to be an English/Scottish pub, but it falls short in the ambience department. It's pretty much like every otter gastropub I've been to. The service was tremendously slow. It took about an hour to get our drinks when there was only one other couple in the place, and then the food came probably 45 minutes after that. There was only one person working, sadly. I'm not sure if this is an oversight by management or this is customary for the restaurant. I had the $18 smashburger, which I felt was overpriced. Some friends had other things that were extremely adequate in taste, but nothing special. It evidently has a wonderful selection of bourbons, so if you like bourbon, and you're not in a hurry, you could give it a try.

Grilled cheese, mashed potatoes, and pretzel bites

The place was busy which was surprising given it was only like 4:30pm. I liked my grilled cheese and mashed potatoes. The mash in particular was very tasty. My mom wasn't a fan of the pretzel and sauces though. The place was cute, well decorated. I would come back.

Dismayed by wait staff. Totally arrogant girls work here, who snub their nose at clientele. Fire 'em. You are hemorrhaging diners. Wait 'til they read this review.. It's bar food. Beers come in a collection of bric-a-brac glasses (it never matches, what's in the glass). When I ate here, the bar-brat klonked the plate down and walked off in a fit. Never even asked, if it's good. Big mistake - because that's the ONE (only - even if the food is shit, I'll say it's fine) thing I care about. Always! Ask. Me. About. The. Food. Capito?? Just a quick: "Everything okay?".. and guess what? I'll leave a 30% tip. Just 'cause you're inquisitive! Not here. Loch and Quay, has the politeness of a horse stall. Which is probably where the delinquent bar-snot should relocate.. Review: 2

Half order of spinach artichoke dip and buffalo chicken wing dip
    Sara P.

Visited while in Albany for a business. It was near our hotel and had good reviews so we decided to check it out, and we were glad we stopped by! The place had a fun bar vibe, with a big old wood bar. The staff was friendly. The menu had a variety of sandwiches, paninis, and other typical bar food. We wanted an appetizer and were having a hard time deciding between spinach artichoke dip and buffalo chicken wing dip, but I loved that they had an option where you could get a half order of each so we didn't have to choose! I was going back and forth but ended up choosing the chicken pesto panini and I was happy I did, it had good flavor. My husband had seen the cottage pie on the menu when looking online and had his heart set on it. He was happy at his choice, and it definitely looked hearty. I have traveled to this hotel a few times for work, and this place is in walking distance, I would definitely consider coming back again, and recommend you give it a try if in the area, especially if in the mood for pub fare!

Great little spot to grab lunch on the road. Deli sandwiches and burgers hit the spot. Tiny place, be warned fries aren't an option! Still perfect for lunch. Gluten free bread available.

I was in Albany for a little while, waiting for a bus to take me to NYC, so I had some time on my hands with my family to get a bite to eat. I got a bloody mary and a Caesar salad. The food was delicious, it all came quickly, the restaurant was pretty cool, and you could even see the cooks in the kitchen through the door making your food. We all had a pretty great experience and enjoyed our time there even though it was short. I would definitely recommend that anyone come here if they need somewhere to go for a quick bite, whether because they're waiting for a train, on a lunch break, or relaxing with friends/family. I can see myself coming back here if I'm ever in Albany again.

Basic burger with Swiss and side salad

Stopped in for lunch. The bartender Deshawn was handling the whole place very efficiently. He did the tables inside and outside as well as the bar. Quick and friendly service!! I had the basic burger with Swiss with a side salad. I'm not much of a burger person but he recommended it and it was delicious. Cooked perfectly. Fresh lettuce, tomato and onions. The pickles were really good too - a little tangy.

Roast Beef Club Sandwich with Macaroni Salad

This place is tiny but very quaint! Lots of alcohol too! There was one server for the whole place so it takes awhile to get your food. Otherwise, she was super friendly. The sandwiches were delicious! They were not heavy. We ordered the macaroni salad as our side and it was soooo good. I'm not a Big Mac salad fine but this was perfect. If you're not into macaroni salad, you can order a bag of chips or a salad as the side. I would come here to try the other items on the menu.

I can't believe I hadn't been to Loch & Quay before! My wife and I came in at lunch on a Saturday before going to an event at the nearby MVP Arena. We sat at the bar and talked to the very friendly bartender/server. She recommended The George burger to me, which I promptly ordered and it was a great recommendation. It was a perfectly messy burger - I'll be honest, I switched to a fork and knife after a few bites - and it came with a pickle spear and bag of chips. Their beer menu is pretty impressive, especially if you count their can list alongside of it. We didn't try their cocktails, but I was definitely tempted by their Betty White Russian (R.I.P.). It isn't a large space so I can imagine it might get a bit crowded and hard to find a seat during busier times, but I enjoyed it when it was a bit quieter. We'll definitely be back soon!

The steak was so big, I totally left with a second meal. My husband ordered peppered steak, mashed potatoes and grilled veggies, and that was also a large serving. The building itself is impressive, although maybe not quite as impressive as the castle-looking building next door. Our party of seven settled in at the bar as there otherwise did not seem to be a large enough table for all of us to gather around in either the main lounge area or a small room off to the side. The dark wood paneled walls, large fireplace, assortment of easy chairs, couches, and high desktop table gave off a feeling of warmth and welcoming. The friendly bartender introduced herself (sorry I've forgotten her name) and informed us that spirit-wise, the bar was capable of preparing the standard, traditional drinks like Manhattans, martinis, etc. All beers were poured from cans, and at my request, she recited the names of about six that were available. I don't believe anyone in our party inquired about the wines that were available. The building simply calls out for an explanation of its history. Upon our request, the bartender offered to provide either the "brief" or "full" option. We requested the full history. She was obviously well up to the task. You would be amazed at the variety of things you could learn here. Just to touch on a few key topics that were mentioned, consider Alexander Hamilton's wife, puffed rice, Bab-o cleanser (cue up the jingle), Bishop Gibbons, and an orthopedic surgeon. I don't know what the normal food arrangements are in the Lounge. I'm guessing that our out-of-town hosts requested some snacks for us as a few bowls appeared with mixed nuts, crackers and cheese, fresh grapes, humus, and warm pretzel/croissant rolls, and a plate of prosciutto wrapped cream cheese. Overall, the atmosphere here is simply friendly and inviting. I think it will become an occasional gathering place for our local friends when looking for a place that is quiet and relaxing.

I should have checked the menu first but I assumed, based on my last experience, that there'd be plenty of delightful options. Well I was shocked to find not one dish on the dinner menu that called out to me! Small menus can usually still provide good variety but all they had were hunks of meat (steak, salmon, chicken breast) or burgers. Last time I had ravioli, so I thought there'd be at least one pasta or sandwich option on the menu. I took a look at their lunch menu - tons of variety. I wish they offered some of those options at dinner time. I ended up going with the burrata salad, it was good, but not really a full dinner meal. The food itself is well prepared and nicely presented. The place is looking pretty shabby, usually I really don't care about "aesthetics" and am all for some well loved furniture but the chairs were so worn out that it detracts from the classy vibe they seem to be trying to give off.
