Really had a lot of fun at the Ace Lair. Came here after dinner for my recent birthday and I've been wanting to come for so long. They had a promo online, so we were able to get 2 for the price of one. I made reservations, but the dinner I was at was taking forever. I called to let them know we're running late and the guy helping me on the phone was very nice and said not to worry. When we finally arrived it was not too crazy, but filling up. You give your ID to keep on file and they go over the different throwing methods and how to change the background screen where you're throwing. I thought this was really cool! There's also alcohol/drinks available for purchase. There are also pinball machines in the front and a rage room in the back that looked like something I should be doing lol. It was a fun experience throwing the axes and having some friendly competition with my husband. Even if you're not in an axe throwing mood, being able to hang out here and play pinball or drink is really cool too and the location is perfect because it's in downtown Upland next to everything. Our family participated in the axe throwing and found it a lot of fun. I would suggest you don't do over half an hour for six or less. It's a lot of throwing. We booked it for an hour and found it too long. It's a very clean environment and the employees are helpful and kind. We would probably do it again. Rates it four stars bc we asked if we could exchange a half hour of axe throwing for the batting cages and we couldn't do it without another $30+ charge. Just visited the Axe Lair recently... not for Axe throwing, but to play pinball! They have an amazing line up of pinball in addition to the Axe throwing. They also have a rage Room, some cool places to kick back and sell beer and wine at the "bar". We were there for a pinball tournament and I guess they have on once a month, so you might want to check that out if your a pinhead. They also have some large games like Jenga and Connect Four. Its a fun place overall. Open from 5-10 during the week, 12-10 Sat and 12-8 Sun. Its right on Second street in Upland so tons of places to grab dinner, hit a brewery, etc before coming in. I recently booked a group of 18 for 2 hours of throwing time at the Axe Lair for my husband's birthday, and the whole process from beginning to end was so smooth and seamless! I emailed with Alyssa, the assistant manager, and she was so helpful with answering every one of my questions! She made the booking process so easy! This was all of our first times, and it couldn't have gone any better. The staff was so thorough with explaining the techniques of throwing each of the weapons. I opted for the "Bucket of Everything" for all of us which included an axe, dagger, and shovel. I HIGHLY recommend doing that! It was nice to be able to switch off which one you wanted to throw. They have a big selection of different games that project on the board! I was concerned that 2 hours wouldn't be enough time, but by the end of the 2 hours, we were all pretty worn out, so it was plenty of time! We all had such a BLAST and can't wait to go again!!! Very roomy and plenty of spots to throw. They have a good selection of pin ball machines and a bar with good beer and soda options plus snacks. Love this place. We had a great date night here the other day. The booking process is so easy. I do recommend it just in case it gets busy. It starts to pick up towards the evening. The check in was super easy. Everyone is very friendly. They help you with your throwing skills. And I truly appreciate how helpful everyone was. Every time we asked for help they were all happy and ready to do so. We got the everything bucket and ended up using just the axe's. We tried the knife's and shovel and oh my.. no way haha. My son and I got to experience the Rage Room at Axe Lair. It was a great way to blow off some steam before his school year starts. Jaden was a gracious host and explained all rules and tips clearly. Axe throwing is underrated. Nothing like launching a steel Blade into a 2x4 for stress relief & friendly competition. The venue is what you would imagine it looks like: a metal hanger, concrete flooring, cool decor, cages & wooden targets. They use a projector system to provide a variety of games including tic-tac-toe, zombie head hunter & a classic bulls-eye target. The atmosphere is friendly. The folks who work there are happy to give you pointers on how perform better. Axe throwing itself is $25ish, knife throwing is an additional $5. You have the choice of hatchets & longer tomahawks. It's one of my favorite activities to do, especially in the winter months. Definitely worth a try. read more

I tried booking day of online and they didn't have spots available, I called and they said they had plenty of 1 hr sessions of both axe throwing and knives, I found it silly that they couldn't accommodate both. They seem relatively new and still figuring things out. I got there a half hour early and they allowed us to start our hour early, which worked out for our diner reservations after. Came here cuz we are new pinball league players and heard they have tournaments here, we went and we only played the front games by entrance but I think they have more games in the back? but the front desk clerk didn't tell us anything so we assumed there was only the front pinball machines which sucks cuz we traveled kinda far and it was super hot and sweaty playing by windows at 6pm in summer so we hated it and didn't enjoy playing. Fun Family activity; we bought a package for 8 ppl so 2 lanes next to each other. we absolutely had a blast. when we got there, we had a little bit of a wait. We didn't know about the waiver beforehand so we had to rush to do it. They gave you a quick instruction and demonstration how to do it. We were a group of eight. My parents being over 50 and, my siblings and others were in our 20s. We had fun there are different games that you can play with it. So yeah multiple options on how to play. We really enjoyed the duck hunt. Only thing is it took us almost half the time just trying to get the ax to stick. Our projection screen was a bit hard to see on some of the more advanced games because our wood target was pretty butchered, but our favorite was Tic Tac Toe! After we finished Axe Throwing, I booked the rage room! This was probably our favorite part! The staff informed me upon asking over the phone about their services that you can bring your own items for the rage room (no electronics), but we enjoyed the 15 item selection they had to choose from! We just wanted smash more things and keep raging lol! We really had a good time here, but that was more the result of my crew than the business. No pressing complaints, but I was surprised by how laissez-faire the staff was considering we were throwing real-ass weapons against a wall, having them bounce off, having them fly back at us - it was harrowing and totally unexpected, I thought we'd have had significantly more oversight. The staff were themselves throwing axes on a different alley, distracted by practicing their own throwing skills, and not paying us hardly any mind. Now, for candor, I have not been a patron to other, comparable businesses, so I am going against what FEELS like the way it should be and not what is precedent for the axe-throwing industry. But we were a bunch of buzzed adults hurling things that could absolutely murder/decapitate other humans, so I expected more babysitting, training, hovering, etc. I felt rather uneasy the entire time, so I won't likely be back to this business. read more

What an experience!! This was TONS of fun. Axe Lair is located in Upland. They have a parking lot right outside the garage. Right when we walked in we were greeted by the staff. Staff members were friendly, helpful and professional. We had to wait for our one friend to show up since he was late (annoying lol). While we waited for him, my other friend and I played some of the games I. The "waiting area." There was mini golf, connect four and jenga. Once my other friend showed up, we got to playing. The very kind (and attractive) staff member gave us a quick tutorial on how to throw the axes properly and discussed safety protocols. And we were off! Boy is axe throwing a lot harder than we thought! And it is definitely a workout too lol We didn't know how challenging t was to hit the dang bullseye, but we had fun trying lol The one star was deducted because there's NO air conditioning and it was hot asf in there. SO MUCH FUN! Axe throwing is definitely something you need to do at least once. Its a great stress relieving activity for sure. Be prepared to sweat a little because it totally counts as exercise. I would also say to dress comfortably because we came in the afternoon and theres no AC just a bunch of powerful fans which helps but it can get pretty toasty especially in the afternoon. You should probably bring your own water because they don't have drinking fountains but they do have waters and other drinks you can buy. You do have to reserve a space online but booking was super easy. I highly recommend getting the 3 dollar upgraded axe because its just so much more satisfying to throw. Sure you can hit the target with the basic axe, but i felt like there was more control with the upgraded version. The staff were super helpful and always there if you had questions or were in need of tips. The vibe here is AWESOME and they even have an area where is all neon and glow in the dark which is freaking sweet. My recommendation to you guys is to add throwing stars or knives; that would totally be fun but axes are pretty sweet by themselves. Keep up the good work read more

This place was pretty fun!! Brought my two boys and husband, while we waited for the Glow in the dark axe throwing experience we played giant connect four, giant jenga and even darts. While we waited we also got to drink, they have soft drinks, water and even alcohol, yay! Nothing on tap though, everything is bottled. This place has about 8 or 10 axe throwing booths but only 1 glow in the dark. You get a basic axe with your admission, but you can upgrade to a better axe for a few dollars more (Def recommend). I couldn't hit the target at all until I upgraded. They have a book to show you how to play certain games and they give you something to tally up your points. This was my 1st place I experienced axe throwing and it was quite fun, the people are friendly very helpful, they showed us how to throw several times. I will definitely bring my family back. I am glad we didn't give up!! This was a great activity to try!! They have a discount for teachers, first responders and military. The gentleman who helped and checked us in, was clear to explain we had less than an hour before closing. 50 minutes was plenty of time for us to try throwing. They have an extensive waiver to read and sign. Yes this activity has the potential to be dangerous. Which is why, in my opinion, they should not sell alcohol. Yes I know people can potentially come in already impaired, but throwing axes and alcohol can be a dangerous combination. We had a great time throwing!! My axe broke and we quickly got another one. They have loud rock music playing, fans are blowing and the air smells like lumber!! We plan on coming back with a group of family to try axe throwing. read more

This location is much more affordable than the ones out in LA but it comes with some caveats... To fill out the waiver you had to use an Ipad but on the day I went 7/18/21 they only had 3 of 5 working iPads and there were multiple groups of 5+ which took forever. Seems like there was only one person manning everything during my visit so every group had to wait for quite a bit before they can enter their lane. Once we were situated in our lane the staff explained the rules hella fast like he couldn't even catch his breath.. Beware!! There's no ACs, OnlyFans. I wish the axes were a little bit sharper b/c both our axes were extremely dull and it took more strength each toss to hit the target. Overall it's a chill place to try axe throwing and I'd probably come back during the winter months or when they invest into ACs. read more

Quite fun! Prior to coming in I literally thought "well, it's an axe, an axe is sharp, it isn't going to matter how I throw it, it's going to stick." ... I . Was. Wrong. This was so much harder than I thought it would be and I had by far more missed than hits. I was embarrassed until I saw a lot of people also missing! I have been to this axe throwing spot when it used to be located inside of a warehouse next to a CrossFit gym. I got to check out its new location on Sunday while out on a date. There is much more room and many more bays at this new location. The best part: they have AC! At least when I went in, it did. I read reviews prior stating that there was no AC, but that was not the case when I went in. Each bay has several different games you can play and you are shown by a staff member how to throw the axe. Upgrading to a different sized axe, a knife, and shovel is free. Again, it was at least when I went in. Could be different t on different days or depending on how busy it is. They have a few picnic tables inside that I assume can be used if you want to bring food or drinks. They do sell drinks at their establishment and also have a few board games and giant Jenga. They were very helpful in planning this event. George and Corina were very accommodating for the requested time slot and day. The staff was very helpful and attentive to our crew the day of the event. They helped us set up and had great coaching tips. The Axe Lair had great ambience for hanging out. I had made an appointment for two late evening on a Thursday, unfortunately we were running late, so I called hoping to see if we could be pushed back or if I could buy a different hour if possible. Since there were no other large parties, the staff let us know that we would still be able to show up without worrying (we got super lucky). As for the location, it's a very cool vibe, the games are quite simple but still fun. The staff will go through a simple axe throwing lesson & then let you & your party go. I always see video's of people doing this axe throwing thing and always hitting the bullseye... So I wondered how I would do... Well I found out this pass weekend when I went here with my sister and her family. It was tough in the beginning. For the longest time, it was only my niece that was making the axe stick. None of us could get the axe to stick. I even tried throwing with some force, and the axe would just bounce right off the wooden board. But with trying different techniques (at first I thought drinking more beer was helping me throw.. lol) and also some observation of the people next to us, I finally got the throw down and was getting some points on the board!
